1528 प्रसिद्ध स्कॉटिश चर्चमैन और स्कॉटलैंड में प्रारंभिक प्रोटेस्टेंट सुधारक पैट्रिक हैमिल्टन को आर्कबिशप जेम्स बीटन ने विधर्मी घोषित कर जिंदा जलवा दिया।

1644 हाबिल तस्मान ने प्रशांत महासागर की दूसरी यात्रा शुरू की।

1704 रानी ऐनी के युद्ध में फ्रांसीसी सेना और मूल अमेरिकियों ने डियरफील्ड, मैसाचुसेट्स पर हमला किया और नष्ट कर दिया, जिसमें 100 पुरुष, महिलाएं और बच्चे मारे गए।

1712 स्वीडन में व्यवस्था दी गई कि 29 फरवरी के बाद 30 फरवरी होती है, ताकि वे स्वीडिश कैलेंडर का उपयोग बंद कर सकें और जूलियन कैलेंडर पर लौट आएं।

1896 मोरारजी रणछोड़जी देसाई का जन्म हुआ। वे भारतीय सिविल सेवक और राजनीतिज्ञ, भारत के चौथे प्रधानमंत्री हुए जनता पार्टी की सरकार में 1977 में। 1896 में इसी दिन विलियम ए वेलमैन, अमेरिकी अभिनेता, निर्देशक, निर्माता और पटकथा लेखक का जन्म हुआ।

1904 प्रसिद्ध प्रसिद्ध भारतीय भरतनाट्यम नृत्यांगना रुक्मिणी देवी अरुंडेल का जन्म हुआ।

1908 वर्जीनिया महासभा द्वारा महिलाओं के लिए स्टेट नॉर्मल एंड इंडस्ट्रियल स्कूल के रूप में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में वर्जीनिया के हैरिसनबर्ग में जेम्स मैडिसन विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना की गई। जेम्स मैडिसन विश्वविद्यालय हैरिसनबर्ग, वर्जीनिया में एक सार्वजनिक शोध विश्वविद्यालय है। 1908 में हैरिसनबर्ग में महिलाओं के लिए स्टेट नॉर्मल एंड इंडस्ट्रियल स्कूल के रूप में स्थापित, संस्था का नाम राष्ट्रपति जेम्स मैडिसन के सम्मान में 1938 में मैडिसन कॉलेज और फिर 1977 में जेम्स मैडिसन यूनिवर्सिटी रखा गया।

1916 टोकेलाऊ पर यूनाइटेड किंगडम ने कब्जा कर लिया।

1932 कांचीपुरम में प्रसिद्ध गणितज्ञ कांजिवरम श्रीरंगचारी शेषाद्रि का जन्म हुआ। 2009 में भारत सरकार ने विज्ञान एवं अभियांत्रिकी के क्षेत्र में पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था। इसी दिन टाइम पत्रिका ने अमेरिकी राजनेता विलियम अल्फाल्फा मरे को अपने कवर पर दिखाया, जब मरे ने कहा कि उन्होंने संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए दौड़ने की योजना बनाई है।

1936 जापान में 26 फरवरी को तख्तापलट की कोशिश खत्म हुई।

1940 हैटी मैकडैनियल अकादमी पुरस्कार जीतने वाले पहले अफ्रीकी अमेरिकी बने। सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायक अभिनेत्री का पुरस्कार गॉन विद द विंड में उनकी माँ की भूमिका के लिए था।

1940 फिनलैंड ने शीतकालीन युद्ध शांति वार्ता शुरू की। इसी दिन 1940 में विख्यात भौतिक विज्ञानी अर्नेस्ट लॉरेंस को भौतिकी में 1939 का नोबेल पुरस्कार मिला।

1944 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध में एडमिरल्टी द्वीप समूह पर आक्रमण हुआ।

1952 हेलिगोलैंड द्वीप जर्मन अधिकार में वापस कर दिया गया। 1952 में इसी दिन पैदल चलने वालों के लिए सड़क पार करने संबंधी निर्देश पहली बार टाइम्स स्क्वेयर के 44वीं स्ट्रीट और ब्रॉडवे में लगाए गए।

1956 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ड्वाइट डी. आइजनहावर ने कहा कि वह दूसरे कार्यकाल के लिए उम्मीदवार हैं।

1960 मोरक्को में भूकंप से 3,000 से अधिक लोग मारे गए और देश का दक्षिणी भाग अगाडिर लगभग नष्ट हो गया।

1964 सिडनी में ऑस्ट्रेलियाई तैराक डॉन फ्रेजर ने 100 मीटर फ्रीस्टाइल तैराकी प्रतियोगिता (58.9 सेकंड) में नया विश्व रिकॉर्ड बनाया।

1972 वियतनाम युद्ध में दक्षिण कोरिया ने अपने 48,000 सैनिकों में से 11,000 को वियतनाम से हटा दिया।

1972 हैंक आरोन मेजर लीग बेसबॉल के इतिहास में 200,000 डॉलर के अनुबंध पर हस्ताक्षर करने वाले पहले खिलाड़ी बने।

1980 आइस हॉकी में तत्कालीन हार्टफोर्ड व्हेलर्स के लिए खेलते हुए गोर्डी होवे ने अपना 800वां गोल करके एनएचएल में इतिहास रचा।

1984 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुमुखी प्रतिभावान टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माडल जान्वी छेड़ा मुंबई में जन्म हुआ। यह मुख्य रूप से सीआईडी में श्रेया के किरदार के रूप लोकप्रिय रहीं हैं। इसी दिन कनाडा के प्रधानमंत्री पियरे ट्रूडो ने कहा कि जैसे ही कनाडा की लिबरल पार्टी किसी अन्य नेता को चुनेगी, वह पद त्याग देंगे।

1988 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के आर्चबिशप डेसमंड टूटू को केप टाउन में पांच दिवसीय रंगभेद विरोधी प्रदर्शन के दौरान गिरफ्तार किया गया। साथ ही 100 पादरियों को भी गिरफ्तार किया गया है। इसी दिन 1988 में स्वेंड रॉबिन्सन पहले समलैंगिक कनाडाई संसद सदस्य बने।

1992 बोस्निया और हर्जेगोविना की स्वतंत्रता जनमत संग्रह के पहले दिन मतदान हुआ।

1996 बोस्निया और हर्जेगोविना में साराजेवो की घेराबंदी समाप्त हुई। 1996 में इसी दिन पेरू का एक बोइंग 737 एंडीज में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, जिसमें 123 लोग मारे गये।

2000 छह वर्षीय डेड्रिक ओवेन्स ने मिशिगन के माउंट मॉरिस टाउनशिप में थियो जे. बुएल एलीमेंट्री स्कूल में छह वर्षीय कायला रोलैंड की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी। 2000 में इसी दिन भारत सरकार ने सेना व्यय में 28.2 प्रतिशत बढ़ोतरी, अधिक आयवर्ग के लोगों पर आयकर में वृद्धि और स्थायी सरकारी नौकरियों में कटौती का ऐलान किया।

2004 जीन-बर्ट्रेंड एरिस्टाइड ने लोकप्रिय विद्रोह के बाद हैती के राष्ट्रपति पद से इस्तीफा दिया। 2004 में इसी दिन द लॉर्ड ऑफ द रिंग्स द रिटर्न ऑफ द किंग ने 76वें वार्षिक अकादमी पुरस्कारों में 10 अन्य पुरस्कारों के साथ सर्वश्रेष्ठ चल चित्र का पुरस्कार जीता।

2008 मिशा डेफोंसेका ने अपना संस्मरण, मिशा ए मेमॉयर ऑफ द होलोकॉस्ट इयर्स कि नाजी जर्मनी नरसंहार होलोकॉस्ट के दौरान जंगल में भेड़ियों के एक झुंड में रहीं। पहला दुर्लभ रोग दिवस यूरोपीय दुर्लभ रोग संगठन (यूरोर्डिस) 29 फरवरी, 2008 को कई यूरोपीय देशों और कनाडा में दुर्लभ विकारों के लिए कनाडाई संगठन के सहयोग से आयोजित किया था। यह तारीख इसलिए चुनी गई क्योंकि 29 फरवरी एक दुर्लभ दिन है। 2008 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में अनाथ औषधि अधिनियम के पारित होने की 25वीं वर्षगांठ थी। अब यह विशेष आयोजन फरवरी के आखिरी दिन होता है चाहे 28 हो या 29 फरवरी।

2012 जापान के टोक्यो में 634 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर टोक्यो स्काई ट्री बनकर तैयार हुआ। इसी दिन केरल के प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और स्वयं सेवी संगठन नायर सर्विस सोसाइटी के अध्यक्ष पी. के. नारायण पणिक्कर का निधन हुआ। 

2016 दियाला के मिकदादिया शहर में एक शिया अंतिम संस्कार में आईएसआईएल द्वारा किए गए आत्मघाती बम विस्फोट के बाद कम से कम 40 लोग मारे गए और 58 अन्य घायल हो गए। 2016 में इसी दिन पाकिस्तान में मुमताज कादरी को रावलपिंडी के अडियाला जेल में फांसी दे दी गई। कादरी ने पंजाब के उदारवादी गवर्नर सलमान तासीर की 2011 में इस्लामाबाद के एक बाजार में 28 गोलियां मार कर हत्या कर दी थी।

2020 एक प्रदर्शन के दौरान, वेनेजुएला के बार्कि्वसिमेटो में सरकार समर्थक कोलेटिवोस ने विवादित राष्ट्रपति और नेशनल असेंबली के अध्यक्ष जुआन गुएडो और उनके समर्थकों पर गोली चलाई, जिसमें पांच घायल हो गए। इसी दिन 2020 में अमेरिका और तालिबान ने अफगानिस्तान में शांति लाने के बहाने अमेरिका ने अफगानिस्तान से निकलने के लिए दोहा समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इसी दिन 2020 में इवा शेकली, हंगेरियन हॉल ऑफ फेम तैराक और 1952 ओलंपिक चैंपियन का निधन हुआ।

-इंग्लैंड और आयरलैंड में बैचलर डे 29 फरवरी को मनाया जाने वाला महत्वपूर्ण दिवस है। इसकी स्थापना 1800 के दशक में हुई थी। यह शैक्षिक पाठ्यक्रम परियोजना के हिस्से के रूप में, 1937 और 1939 के बीच आयरिश लोकगीत आयोग संयोजित किया।

2008 Mischa Defonseca writes her memoir, Mischa A Memoir of the Holocaust Years about living with a pack of wolves in the woods during the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. The first Rare Disease Day was organized by the European Organization for Rare Diseases (EURODS) on February 29, 2008, in collaboration with the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders in several European countries and Canada. This date was chosen because February 29 is a rare day. 2008 was the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Orphan Drug Act in the United States. Now this special event takes place on the last day of February whether it is 28th or 29th February.

2012 Tokyo Sky Tree was completed at a height of 634 meters in Tokyo, Japan. On the same day, Kerala's famous social worker and president of voluntary organization Nair Service Society, P.K. Narayan Panikkar passed away.

2016 At least 40 people are killed and 58 others are injured after an ISIL suicide bombing at a Shia funeral in the city of Miqdadiya in Diyala. On this day in 2016, Mumtaz Qadri was hanged in Pakistan's Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. Qadri had assassinated Punjab's liberal governor Salman Taseer in 2011 by shooting him 28 bullets in a market in Islamabad.

2020 During a demonstration, pro-government colectivos in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, opened fire on controversial President and National Assembly Speaker Juan Guaidó and his supporters, wounding five. On this day in 2020, America and Taliban signed the Doha Agreement to withdraw from Afghanistan on the pretext of bringing peace in Afghanistan. On this day in 2020, Ewa Székely, Hungarian Hall of Fame swimmer and 1952 Olympic champion, died.
