20 ईसा पूर्व 21 फरवरी गयुस सीजर का निधन हुआ। यह अपने छोटे भाई लूसियस सीजर के साथ रोमन सम्राट ऑगस्टस के पोते और राज सिंहासन के उत्तराधिकारी थे। रोमन सीनेट ने उन्हें पहले योग्यता या प्रशंसा के बिना अपने करियर को आगे बढ़ाने की अनुमति दी और कई प्रशासनिक दायित्व दिए थे।

453 फिलिस्तीन में सिथोपोलिस के बिशप सेंट सेवेरियन या सेवेरियनस की मौत हुई, उन्हें संत माना गया और शहीद का दर्जा दिया गया। 21 फरवरी को उनकी पुण्य तिथि पर प्रार्थनाएं और भोज होता है।

675 सेंट रैंडोआल्ड ऑफ ग्रैंडवाल का निधन हुआ जो ग्रैनफेल्डेन के जर्मनस बेनेडिक्टिन माउटियर-ग्रैंडवाल एबे (आधुनिक स्विट्जरलैंड में) इसाई संत थे। उन्हें कैथोलिक और पूर्वी रूढ़िवादी चर्चों में एक संत के रूप में मान्यता दी गई।

1245 फिनलैंड के पहले ज्ञात बिशप थॉमस को यातना देने और जालसाजी की बात कबूल करने के बाद इस्तीफा देने को मजबूर किया गया।

921 प्रतिष्ठित जापानी ओनमोजी अबे नो सेइमी का जन्म हुआ। वे जापान में हेइयन काल के मध्य में ओनमायोडो के एक प्रमुख विशेषज्ञ हुए। वह इतिहासकार और जापानी लोककथाओं का प्रमुख संकलनकर्ता हुए।

1440 ट्यूटनिक की ज्यादतियों के विरोध में प्रशियाई परिसंघ का गठन क्विडजिन (मैरिएनवर्डर) में किया गया। इसमें 53 रईसों, पादरियों और प्रशिया के 19 शहरों के समूह हिस्सेदारी की। यह पहले के समान संगठन, लिजर्ड यूनियन पर आधारित था जिसकी स्थापना 1397 में चेल्मनो लैंड के रईसों ने की थी।

1437 पर्थ स्थित अर्ल ऑफ एथल में स्कॉटलैंड के राजा जेम्स प्रथम की हत्या उसके चाचा और पूर्व सहयोगी वाल्टर स्टीवर्ट ने की।

1495 फ्रांस के राजा चार्ल्स 8वें के नेतृत्व में सेना नेपल्स, इटली पहुँची।

1543 इथियोपिया के सम्राट गैलावेदोस के नेतृत्व वाली इथियोपियाई और पुर्तगाली संयुक्त सेना ने इथियोपिया के इमाम अहमद इब्न इब्राहिम अल-गाजी के नेतृत्व वाली सेना को हराया।

1613 रूस में रोमानोव वंश का शासन स्थापित हुआ। मिखायेल रोमानोव ने इसकी स्थापना की। 1917 की महान रूसी समाजवादी क्रांति होने तक रोमानोव राजवंश चला। ज़ार निकोलस द्वितीय के नाम से प्रसिद्ध अलेक्जेंडर रोमानोव रूस के आखिरी राजा हुए, रूसी राजा को जार कहा जाता है।

1703 जाने माने इस्लामिक विद्वान शाह वलीउल्लाह देहलवी का जन्म मुजफ्फरनगर, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1724 स्वीडन और रूस के बीच आपसी सहायता के लिए संधि हुई।

1746 फ्रांस की सेना ने बेल्जियम की राजधानी ब्रुसेल्स पर कब्जा किया।

1775 यूरोपीय देश पौलेंड की राजधानी वारसा के बाहरी इलाकों से यहूदियों को निकाला गया।

1795 डचों ने सीलोन (अब श्रीलंका) अंग्रेजों को सौंप दिया।

1784 चीन के साथ व्यापार के लिए अमेरिका का पहला व्यापारिक पोत न्यूयॉर्क से रवाना हुआ।

1829 कर्नाटक की वीरांगना और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रानी चेन्नम्मा का निधन हुआ।

1842 अमेरिका में जॉन ग्रीनॉफ को सिलाई मशीन का पेटेंट अधिकार मिला।

1845 ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी ने डच ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी से सेरामपोर और बालासोर (उड़ीसा) की खरीद की।

1848 जर्मनी में वामपंथी समाजवादी सिद्धांतकारों कार्ल मार्क्स और फ्रेडरिक एंगेल्स ने कम्युनिस्ट घोषणापत्र प्रकाशित किया। इसने अर्थव्यवस्था और समाज व्यवस्था को जनोन्मुखी बनाने का मार्ग प्रशस्त किया। यह शासन और समाज व्यवस्था का सबसे शानदार दर्शन था, जिससे पूरी दुनिया प्रभावित हुई। इसी दिन 1848 में लुई फिलिप के शासन की असफलताओं के कारण पेरिस में विद्रोह हुआ।

1858 अमेरिका के एडविन टी होम्स ने पहला इलेक्ट्रिक अलार्म बनाया। 

1872 भारत के गवर्नर जनरल रहे लार्ड मेयो यानी रिचर्ड साउथवेल बाॅर्क का जन्म डब्लिन, आयरलैंड में हुआ।

1878 अमेरिका के कनेक्टिकट में दुनिया की पहली टेलीफोन डायरेक्टरी जारी की गई। इसी दिन महर्षि अरविंद की शिष्या बनीं मिर्रा अलफासा का 1878 में इसी दिन पेरिस में जन्म हुआ।

1894 प्रख्यात भारतीय वैज्ञानिक शांति स्वरूप भटनागर का जन्म हुआ।

1899 बंगाल के मिदनापुर (मेदिनीपुर) में विख्यात कवि, उपन्यासकार, निबंधकार, चित्रकार और कहानीकार सूर्यकांत त्रिपाठी निराला का जन्म हुआ। वे इलाहाबाद में रहे, यहीं उनका निधन 16 अक्टूबर 1961 को हुआ।

1907 लंदन में टैक्सी मीटर वाली पहली कैब का संचालन प्रारंभ हुआ। प्रसिद्ध अंग्रेजी भाषा के कवि आडेन का हुआ जन्म।

1916 प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के बीच जर्मनी और फ्रांस के मध्य अत्यंत भयानक युद्ध आरंभ हुआ। यह लड़ाई वरडन युद्ध के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।

1918 पूर्वी संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की एकमात्र तोता प्रजाति कैरोलिना परकेट विलुप्त हो गई जब सिनसिनाती चिड़ियाघर में पल रहे इस प्रजाति के अंतिम तोते की मौत हुई।

1919 बावेरियन समाजवादी नेता कर्ट ईस्नर के नेतृत्व में विद्रोहियों ने जर्मन क्रांति का आयोजन किया विटल्सबैच राजशाही को उखाड़ फेंका और एक गणतंत्र के रूप में बावेरिया की स्थापना की।

1925 विश्व प्रतिष्ठित अमेरिकी पत्रिका न्यूयॉर्कर का प्रकाशन प्रारंभ हुआ।

1935 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति कार्यालय व्हाइट हाउस के ऊपर से हवाई जहाजों की उड़ान को प्रतिबंधित किया गया।

1942 हिंदी एवं मराठी सिनेमा की लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल जयश्री गडकर का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के दौरान फिलिपींस में कबायलियों, जनजातियों ने बड़ी संख्या में जापानी सैनिकों हत्या कर दी।

1946 मिस्र में ब्रिटेन के विरुद्ध 1946 में बड़े विरोध प्रदर्शन हुए।

1948 बिल फ्रांस, सीनियर और कई अन्य रेस कार चालकों ने नासकार संस्था की स्थापना की, यह संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में स्टॉक कार रेसिंग का शासी निकाय बना।

1952 ढाका विश्वविद्यालय में बंगाली भाषा को आधिकारिक भाषा का दर्जा देने के लिए पाकिस्तान से मांग करते हुए प्रदर्शन किया गया। अगले 20 साल में बांग्लादेश भारत की मदद से आजाद हो गया और ढाका राजधानी बना।

1958 परमाणु हथियार अनुसंधान प्रतिष्ठान के विरोध में डायरेक्ट एक्शन कमेटी द्वारा शुरू किया गया सीएनडी प्रतीक मतलब शांति प्रतीक या लोगो ब्रिटिश कलाकार गेराल्ड होल्टॉम ने डिजाइन किया।

1959 नयी दिल्ली में प्रेस क्लब आफ इंडिया की स्थापना हुई।

1961 जाने माने अमेरिकी अर्थशास्त्री अभिजीत विनायक बनर्जी का जन्म बंबई मे हुआ।

1963 सोवियत संघ ने अमेरिका को चेतावनी दी कि क्यूबा पर हमला विश्वयुद्ध में बदल सकता है।

1964 पश्चिमी अफ्रीकी देश घाना में एकदलीय शासन व्यवस्था लागू हुई।

1965 अमेरिका के अश्वेत राष्ट्रवादी नेता मैल्कम एक्स की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई। न्यूयॉर्क में उन्हें उनके 400 समर्थकों के सामने गोली मारी गई, जब वे एक जनसमूह को संबोधित कर रहे थे। वे अश्वेतों के साथ भेदभाव खत्म करने, उन्हें अधिकार देने और मानवाधिकारों की बात करते थे। गोरे लोग काले लोगों को अधिकार दिए जाने का विरोध करते थे। कुछ हद तक आज भी अमेरिका में यह भेदभाव है।

1966 उगांडा के प्रधानमंत्री मिल्टन ओबेटे ने अपने मंत्रिमंडल के पाँच सहयोगियों की गिरफ्तारी के आदेश दिए।

1972 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल नीलांजना सेनगुप्ता का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति रिचर्ड निक्सन चीन की ऐतिहासिक यात्रा पर गए, इस यात्रा का मकसद चीन और अमेरिका के बीच 21 साल से जारी तनाव को खत्म करना था। इस तनाव का कारण अमेरिका का ताइवान को लगातार समर्थन देना था। यहां शांघाई ज्वाइंट कम्युनीक पर सहमति बनी जिसमें अमेरिका ने ताइवान को चीन का हिस्सा मान लिया। कुछ साल बाद फिर से ताइवान अमेरिका और चीन के बीच तनाव का कारण बन गया है। चीन ताइवान के खिलाफ और अमेरिका समर्थन में है।

1973 गलती से इजरायली हवाई क्षेत्र में भटकने पर सिनाई रेगिस्तान में, इजरायली लड़ाकू विमान ने लीबिया अरब एयरलाइंस के विमान-114 को मार गिराया जिससे इसमें सवार 108 लोगों की मौत हो गई।

1974 पाकिस्तान ने बांग्लादेश को मान्यता प्रदान की। इसी दिन युगोस्लाविया ने संविधान स्वीकार किया।

1975 इथोपिया में सैनिकों के साथ संघर्ष में दो हजार से अधिक छापामार मारे गये। इसी दिन राष्ट्रसंघ मानवाधिकार आयोग ने 1975 में अधिकृत अरब क्षेत्रों में दमनात्मक कार्रवाई के लिए इस्रायल की कड़ी निंदा की। 1975 में इसी दिन कुख्यात वॉटरगेट कांड में अमेरिका के पूर्व अटॉर्नी जनरल जॉन एन. मिशेल, व्हाइट हाउस के पूर्व सहयोगी एच. आर. हल्डमैन और जॉन एर्लिचमैन को जेल की सजा सुनाई गई।

1978 बड़े कारोबारी सुधीर बंसल की बिटिया खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल स्मिता बंसल का जन्म जयपुर, राजस्थान में हुआ। इसी दिन थाइलैंड के बैंकाॅक में प्रमुख रेस्तरां प्रोग्रेसिव  इंडियन रेस्टोरेंट गग्गन के मुखिया जाने माने भारतीय शेफ गग्गन आनंद का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1979 कैरेबियाई द्वीप सेंट लुसिया ने ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता हासिल की।

1980 अफगानिस्तान ने मार्शल लॉ की घोषणा की। इसी दिन भारतीय रेसिंग ड्राइवर प्रतिभा सुरेशवारन का जन्म।

1986 दक्षिण अफ्रीका की गोरी अंग्रेज सरकार ने 1986 में जोहांसबर्ग और डरबन अश्वेतों के लिए खोल दिए।

1987 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड और जानी मानी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री, गायिका और माॅडल परिनीता बोरठाकुर का जन्म आसाम में हुआ।

1988 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी माॅडल, फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं गायिका दीपल शाव का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन तमिल, तेलुगू, कन्नड़, मलयालम सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुप्रतिभावान फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल वेदिका कुमार का जन्म हुआ।

1989 अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति जार्ज बुश चीन, जापान और दक्षिण कोरिया की यात्रा के लिए रवाना हुए।

1990 कंबोडिया के प्रधानमंत्री हुन सेन ने अपने विरोधी नोरोदम सिंहानुक से बैंकाक में शांति वार्ता की। इसी दिन 1990 में मंगोलिया की राजधानी उलानबटोर से सोवियत नेता जोसफ स्टालिन की अंतिम मूर्ति हटा दी गई।

1991 नूतन के नाम से प्रसिद्ध मिस इंडिया, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुत लोकप्रिय भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री और गायिका नूतन समर्थ बहल का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन अल्बानिया में राष्ट्रपति ने पुलिस विद्रोह के बाद नई सरकार के गठन की घोषणा की।

1992 चीन ने शंघाई शेयर बाजार में विदेशियों को कामकाज की अनुमति दी। इसी दिन सूडान के शहर खार्तूम में हजारों शरणार्थियों के घर तोड़ दिये गए।

1995 उत्तरी आयरलैंड की समस्याओं को हल करने के लिए ब्रिटेन एवं आयरलैंड के प्रधानमंत्री ने समझौता किया। 1995 में इसी दिन स्टीव फॉसेट लीडर, सस्केचेवान, कनाडा में उतरे और गुब्बारे से प्रशांत महासागर के पार अकेले उड़ान भरने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बने।

1996 जर्मनी के एक शोध संस्थान में वैज्ञानिकों ने 112वें तत्त्व की खोज की। इसी दिन स्पेस शटल डिस्कवरी 75 का कक्षा में प्रक्षेपण हुआ।

1998 भारतीय सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध चरित्र अभिनेता ओम प्रकाश का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन जापान के नगानो शहर में अठारहवें शीतकालीन ओलंपिक खेल का समापन हुए।

1999 प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी और पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री नवाज शरीफ ने लाहौर घोषणापत्र पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इसी दिन भारत के प्रख्यात अर्थशास्त्री जगदीश भगवती कोलंबिया विश्वविद्यालय में भारतीय राजनीति अर्थव्यवस्था केंद्र के प्रमुख पद पर नियुक्त हुए। इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र की संस्था यूनेस्को ने 21 फरवरी को मातृभाषा दिवस के रूप में मनाने का ऐलान किया।

2001 43वें ग्रैमी अवार्ड्स के प्रमुख पुरस्कार स्टेली डैन, मैसी ग्रे और स्टिंग को मिले।

2004 लॉन टेनिस में सानिया मिर्जा डब्ल्यू.टी.ए. खिताब जीतने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला खिलाड़ी बनी।

2005 ईरान में आये जबर्दस्त भूकम्प में 400 से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन स्पेन के नागरिकों ने जनमत संग्रह में यूरोपियन संघ के संविधान का व्यापक समर्थन किया।

2006 जापान ने भारत से मांस और अंडे सहित सभी कुक्कुट उत्पादों के आयात पर रोक लगाई।

2007 ब्रिटिश संसद में पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री मारग्रेट थैचर की कांस्य प्रतिमा स्थापित की गई।

2008 समकालीन भारतीय कला के संपादक एवं युवा आलोचक डॉ. ज्योतिष जोशी को देवाीशंकर अवस्थी स्मृति सम्मान दिए जाने की घोषणा की गई। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन व फ्राँस ने ईरान के विरुद्ध प्रतिबन्ध के लिए संशोधित प्रस्ताव सुरक्षा परिषद के समक्ष प्रस्तुत किया। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय कारोबारी अनिल अंबानी की कंपनी रिलायंस कम्यूनिकेशन ने 21 फरवरी साल 2008 को यूंगांडा की कंपनी अनुपम ग्लोबल सॉफ्ट का अधिग्रहण किया। इसी दिन प्राइवेट एयरलाइंस जेट एयरवेज ने इसी दिन एयर कनाडा के साथ रणनीतिक गठजोड़ किया।

2009 हिंदुस्तान मोटर्स ने अपने प्रबन्धकों के वेतन में कमी की।

2010 सऊदी अरब की सरकार ने महिलाओं को वकालत करने की इजाजत देने से संबंधित कानून लाने का निर्णय लिया। बैडमिंटन की चर्चित खिलाड़ी साइना नेहवाल ने इसी दिन जानी मानी खिलाड़ी झोउ मिको को 14-21, 21-10, 23-21 से 50 मिनट में हरा दिया। इसी दिन थाइलैंड के नार्कोनराचशिमा में खेले जा रहे उबेर कप में भारतीय टीम ने अपने पहले मैच में ही हॉन्गकांग को 3-2 से हराकर बेहतर प्रदर्शन किया

2011 क्राइस्टचर्च, न्यूजीलैंड में रिक्टर पैमाने पर 6.3 की तीव्रता वाले भूकंप से 181 लोगों की मौत और भारी नुकसान हुआ।

2013 हैदराबाद में सिलसिलेवार बम धमाके हुए जिसमें करीब 17 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 119 लोग बुरी तरह जख्मी हो गए।

2014 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बराक हुसैन ओबामा चीन के विरोध के बावजूद तीसरी बार तिब्बती धर्मगुरु दलाई लामा से मिले। इसी दिन विख्यात जर्मन-अमेरिकी इतिहासकार, नाटककार और अकादमिक कॉर्नेलियस श्नाउबर का निधन हुआ।

2015 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी स्विंग और बीबॉप ट्रम्पेटर, जैज में फ्लुगेलहॉर्न के अग्रणी और संगीतकार और शिक्षक क्लार्क वर्जिल टेरी जूनियर का निधन हुआ।

2022 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस की महासचिव और उत्तर प्रदेश प्रभारी प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा ने यूपी की राजधानी लखनऊ में विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए घोषित पार्टी प्रत्याशियों के समर्थन में रोड शो किया। प्रियंका ने बख्शी का तालाब विधानसभा क्षेत्र से कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार ललन कुमार के समर्थन में चिनहट इलाके में रोड शो निकाला। प्रियंका गांधी को देखने-सुनने के लिए रास्तों पर काफी भीड़ थी। विभिन्न इलाकों में प्रियंका गांधी ने अपनी कार की छत पर बैठकर लोगों का अभिवादन किया और कांग्रेस प्रत्याशियों को वोट देने की अपील की। इस दौरान समर्थकों ने उन पर फूलों की वर्षा की। लड़कियों और महिलाओं को लड़की हूं, लड़ सकती हूं लिखे रिस्ट बैंड भी दिए। प्रियंका का यह रोड शो लखनऊ के विभिन्न इलाकों से होकर गुजरा। मालूम हो कि 2017 के पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में भाजपा लखनऊ की मोहनलालगंज सीट छोड़कर बाकी सभी 8 सीटों पर विजयी हुई थी। 2022 में इसी दिन रूस-यूक्रेन तनाव के बीच रूसी राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने लुहान्स्क पीपुल्स रिपब्लिक और डोनेट्स्क पीपुल्स रिपब्लिक को यूक्रेन से स्वतंत्र घोषित किया, और क्षेत्र में सेना भेज दी। संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने इसके लिए रूस की निंदा की।

The Roman Senate allowed him to pursue his career without prior qualification or praise and gave him many administrative responsibilities.

453 St. Severian or Severianus, Bishop of Scythopolis in Palestine, died, was canonized and given martyr status. Prayers and a feast are held on his death anniversary, 21 February.

675 Saint Randolph of Grandval, Germanic Benedictine Moutier-Grandval Abbey of Gruenfelden (in modern Switzerland), died. He is recognized as a saint in the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.

1245 Thomas, the first known bishop of Finland, is forced to resign after being tortured and confessing to forgery.

921 Abe no Seimei, the celebrated Japanese onmyoji, is born. He became a leading expert on onmyodo in the middle of the Heian period in Japan. He became a historian and a major collector of Japanese folklore.

1440 The Prussian Confederation is formed in Kwidzin (Marienwerder) in protest against Teutonic excesses. 53 nobles, clergy and groups from 19 cities of Prussia took part in it. It was based on an earlier similar organization, the Lizard Union, founded in 1397 by the nobles of Chełmno Land.
