27 ईसा पूर्व गेयस ऑक्टेवियस को रोमन सीनेट ने सीजर ऑगस्टस का खिताब दिया। वह पहला रोमन सम्राट बना जिसने रोमन साम्राज्य का विस्तार किया, प्रशासनिक, सामाजिक और आर्थिक व्यवस्थाएं बेहतर कीं।

378 माया साम्राज्य के जनरल सियाज काक ने टिकल पर विजय प्राप्त की, जिससे टियोतिहुआकान के राजा स्पीयरथ्रोवर आउल के साम्राज्य का विस्तार हुआ।

550 गॉथिक युद्ध में राजा टोटिला के नेतृत्व में ओस्ट्रोगोथ्स ने लंबी घेराबंदी के बाद इसाउरियन गैरीसन को रिश्वत देकर रोम पर विजय प्राप्त की।

972 येलु लोंग्क्सू, में लियाओ के सम्राट शेंगजोंग का जन्म हुआ। यह खितान के नेतृत्व वाले चीनी लियाओ राजवंश के छठे सम्राट और सबसे लंबे समय तक शासन करने वाले सम्राट बने।

1556 फिलिप द्वितीय या फिलिप द प्रूडेंट स्पेन के सम्राट बने।

1581 ब्रिटिश संसद ने रोमन कैथोलिक इसाई मत को गैर कानूनी घोषित किया।

1120 नब्लस की परिषद में जेरूसलम के क्रूसेडर साम्राज्य के सबसे पुराने जीवित लिखित कानूनों की स्थापना की गई।

1263 शुद्ध भूमि बौद्ध धर्म की जोडो शिंशु शाखा के जापानी संस्थापक शिनरान शोनिन का निधन हुआ।

1572 नोरफोक के चैथे ड्यूक थॉमस हॉवर्ड पर इंग्लैंड में कैथोलिक धर्म को बहाल करने के लिए रिडोल्फी साजिश में उनकी भूमिका के लिए राजद्रोह का दोषी पाया गया।

1605 मुगल बादशाह जहांगीर यानी अकबर के बेटे सलीम के पुत्र शहरयार मिर्जा का जन्म हुआ। मुगल सल्तनत के इस मशहूर राजकुमार शहरयार का नाम सालेफ उद्दीन मोहम्मद शहरयार था। 1605 में इसी दिन मिगुएल डी सर्वेंट्स का काव्यात्मक उपन्यास एल इंजेनियोसो हिडाल्गो डॉन क्विजोटे डे ला मंचा का पहला संस्करण मैड्रिड, स्पेन में प्रकाशित हुआ। डॉन क्विजोटे डे ला मंचा मूल रूप से 1605 और 1615 में दो भागों में प्रकाशित हुआ था। यह पश्चिमी साहित्य का एक संस्थापक रचनाकर्म माना जाता है, इसे अक्सर पहले आधुनिक उपन्यास और अब तक लिखे गए सबसे महान कार्यों में से एक कहा जाता है। डॉन क्विक्सोट दुनिया में सबसे अधिक अनुवादित पुस्तकों में से एक और अब तक के सबसे अधिक बिकने वाले उपन्यासों में से एक है।

1630 सिखों के सातवें गुरु गुरु हरराय का कीरतपुर, रोपड़ पंजाब में जन्म हुआ। यह गुरु हरगोविंद के पौत्र थे।

1681 महाराष्ट्र के रायगढ़ किले में क्षत्रपति शिवाजी के पुत्र संभाजी का राज्याभिषेक हुआ।

1761 अंग्रेजों ने पांडेचेरी से फ्रासीसियों का अधिकार हटा कर उसे अपने अधीन कर लिया।

1769 कलकत्ता में पहली बार सुनियोजित सुव्यवस्थित घुड़दौड़ आयोजित की गई।

1780 ब्रिटिश रॉयल नेवी ने अपने यूरोपीय विरोधियों पर युद्ध में अपनी पहली बड़ी नौसेना जीत हासिल की जब उन्होंने केप सेंट विंसेंट की लड़ाई में एक स्पेनिश स्क्वाड्रन को हराया।

1868 डेट्रायट में एक मछली व्यापारी विलियम डेविस ने रेफ्रिजरेटर कार का पेटेंट कराया।

1886 आयरलैंड की एक बहुचर्चित महिला लुइसा फ्लोरेंस ड्यूरेल का जन्म रुड़की, भारत में हुआ। यह विश्व विख्यात ब्रिटिश उपन्यासकार, कवि एवं नाटककार लाॅरेंस जाॅर्ज ड्यूरेल की मां बनीं। लाॅरेंस का जन्म 27 फरवरी 1927 को जालंधर में हुआ था। 

1889 मिस्र के विख्यात लेखक और साहित्यकार ताहा हुसैन का जन्म हुआ।

1901 प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता महादेव गोविंद रानाडे की देहावसान हुआ।

1919 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में अठारहवें संशोधन को अड़तालीस राज्यों में से छत्तीस राज्यों द्वारा अनुमोदित किया गया, इसके जरिये संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में मादक पेय के निषेध की व्यवस्था की गई।

1920 भारत के प्रमुख न्यायविद, अर्थशास्त्री और अमेरिका में भारत के राजदूत रहे पद्म विभूषण सम्मान प्राप्त नानी आर्देशिर पालखीवाला का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन लीग ऑफ नेशंस, पहला अंतर-सरकारी संगठन जिसका मुख्य मिशन विश्व शांति बनाए रखना था, ने पेरिस में अपनी पहली परिषद की बैठक आयोजित की। यही संगठन आगे चल कर संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ में परिवर्तित हुआ।

1921 स्लोवाकिया में मार्क्सवादी वामपंथी और ट्रांसकारपैथियन यूक्रेन ने लुबोचना में स्थापना कांग्रेस आयोजित की।

1926 प्रख्यात फिल्म संगीतकार ओपी नैय्यर यानी ओमकार प्रसाद नैय्यर का लाहौर में जन्म हुआ।

1931 भारत के प्रसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक और फिजीशियन सुभाष मुखोपाध्याय का जन्म हजारीबाग, बिहार में हुआ।

1938 विख्यात कथाकार शरत चंद्र चटर्जी या शरत चंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय जिन्हें आमतौर पर शरत चंद्र के नाम से जाना जाता है, का कलकत्ता में निधन हुआ। शरत चंद्र के चर्चित लेखन कार्यों में श्रीकांत, चरित्रहरण, देवदास, परिणीति और पथेर देबी प्रमुख हैं। लेकिन उन्हें सबसे ज्यादा प्रसिद्धि देवदास नाम के उपन्यास से मिली। 1917 में प्रकाशित हुई देवदास को शरत चंद्र ने बिहार के भागलपुर में लिखा था और कहा जाता है कि ये उनकी खुद की कहानी थी, जो उन्होंने जोगसर के रेड लाइट एरिया में चंद्रमुखी से मिलने के बाद लिखी थी। देवदास पर हिंदी समेत कई भाषाओं में कुल 20 फिल्में बन चुकी हैं। इनमें दिलीप कुमार और शाहरुख खान द्वारा निभाए गए देवदास के किरदार सबसे चर्चित रहे हैं। इसके अलावा उनकी तमाम कहानियों पर बेहतरीन फिल्में बनीं हैं। शरत चंद्र का जन्म 15 सितंबर 1876 में पश्चिम बंगाल के हुगली जिले के एक छोटे से गांव देबानंदपुर में हुआ था। शरत चंद्र का बचपन बहुत गरीबी में बीता। वह बचपन से ही बहुत साहसी थे और उन्हें बहादुरी के काम पसंद थे। उनका ज्यादातर बचपन बिहार के भागलपुर में उनके मामा के घर पर बीता। युवावस्था में शरत चंद्र बर्मा चले गए थे, वहां से लौटकर वह कई सालों तक हावड़ा में रहे। हावड़ा के समता में ही उन्होंने अपना घर बनाया, जिसे शरत चंद्र कुटी के नाम से जाना जाता है। इसी घर में 12 साल तक शरत चंद्र ने उपन्यास लिखे। 61 साल की उम्र में 16 जनवरी 1938 को कलकत्ता में शरत चंद्र का निधन हुआ।

1938 बेनी गुडमैन ने न्यूयॉर्क शहर के कार्नेगी हॉल में एक संगीत कार्यक्रम का प्रदर्शन किया, जो जैज संगीत के रूप में परिचित, लोकप्रिय हुआ।

1942 केंद्र में विज्ञान एवं तकनीकी मामलों के मंत्री रहे जाने माने कांग्रेस नेता एस. जयपाल रेड्डी का जन्म नरमेता, आंध्र प्रदेश में हुआ। इसी दिन नाजी जर्मनी ने यहूदियों को लॉड्ज यहूदी बस्ती से चेल्मनो विनाश शिविर में निर्वासित करना शुरू किया।

1943 इंडोनेशिया के अंबोन द्वीप पर अमेरिकी वायुसेना का पहला हवाई हमला।

1946 भारतीय और विदेशी फिल्मों में अभिनय करने वाले कद्दावर अभिनेता कबीर बेदी का लाहौर, पाकिस्तान में जन्म हुआ। विभाजन के बाद वे भारत आ गये थे। 1946 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय भौतिकी वैज्ञानिक अतुल गुर्टू का जन्म लाहौर, पाकिस्तान में हुआ।

1947 विंसेंट ऑरियल फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति चुने गये।

1951 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी के प्रमुख नेताओं में से एक तारिक अनवर का जन्म पटना में हुआ।

1955 खड्गवासला राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी का पुणे में औपचारिक रूप से उद्घाटन हुआ।

1962 प्राक्छायावादी कविता काल के महत्त्वपूर्ण हिंदी कवि रामनरेश त्रिपाठी का देहावसान हुआ।

1964 संगीत हैलो, डॉली ! ब्रॉडवे पर सेंट जेम्स थिएटर में प्रस्तुत किया गया, और दस टोनी अवार्ड जीतने के लिए आगे बढ़ता गया, उसने एक रिकॉर्ड स्थापित किया जो 35 वर्षों तक कायम रहा।

1966 परंपरागत भारतीय संस्कृति के प्रचारक, शिक्षाविद और प्रसिद्ध लेखक टीएल वासवानी का निधन हुआ।

1969 सोवियत अंतरिक्ष यानों सोयुज 4 और सोयुज 5 के बीच पहली बार अंतरिक्ष में सदस्यों का आदान-प्रदान हुआ।

1974 बाॅलीवुड फिल्मों एवं टेलीविजन के जाने माने अभिनेता और माॅडल विशाल सिंह का जन्म इंदौर में हुआ।

1977 राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार विजेता लोकप्रिय बांग्ला फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल अनन्या चटर्जी का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ।

1978 विजय सेतुपति के नाम से सुविख्यात तमिल, मलयालम आदि दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा के लोकप्रिय अभिनेता विजय गुरुनाथ सेतुपति कालिमुथु का जन्म राजापलयम में हुआ। 

1984 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड हिंदी एवं पंजाबी गायिका एवं अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल खुशबू ग्रेवाल का चंडीगढ़ में जन्म हुआ।

1985 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता और माॅडल सिद्धार्थ मल्होत्रा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1989 सोवियत संघ ने मंगल ग्रह के लिए दो साल के मानव अभियान की अपनी योजना की घोषणा की। इसी दिन 1989 में मलयालम फिल्मों के चर्चित अभिनेता प्रेम नजीर का निधन हुआ। उन्होंने करीब छह सौ से अधिक फिल्मों में मुख्य किरदार का रोल निभाने का गिनीज वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड बनाया था।

1990 प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश महिला किसान, कृषि शिक्षक, जैविक खेती, कृषि विषयों की लेखिका, जैविक कृषि आंदोलन जनक, पहली कृषि स्नातक लेडी एवलिन बारबरा बालफोर का निधन हुआ।

1991 अमेरिका ने इराक पर हमला किया।

1992 ब्रिटेन एवं भारत के बीच प्रत्यर्पण संधि हुई।

1995 रूस से अलग होने के प्रयास में चेचेन्या में चल रहे गृहयुद्ध को रोकने के लिए रूसी प्रधानमंत्री विक्टर चेर्नोमिर्दिन एवं चेचेन्या प्रतिनिधिमंडल के बीच समझौता हुआ।

1999 भारत के अनिल सूद विश्व बैंक के उपाध्यक्ष बने। इसी दिन टोक्यो (जापान) फिर एक बार विश्व का सबसे मंहगा शहर घोषित हुआ।

2000 चीन सरकार ने दो वर्षीय तिब्बती बालक को सन साकार बुद्ध के पुरावतार के रूप में मान्यता प्रदान की।

2001 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति विलियम जेफरसन क्लिंटन ने पूर्व राष्ट्रपति थियोडोर रूजवेल्ट को स्पेनिश-अमेरिकी युद्ध में उनकी सेवा के लिए मरणोपरांत मेडल ऑफ ऑनर (मेडल ऑफ ऑनर संयुक्त राज्य सशस्त्र बलों का सर्वोच्च सैन्य सम्मान है) से सम्मानित किया।

2002 संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने सर्वसम्मति से अफगानिस्तान में हथियार प्रतिबंध, ओसामा बिन लादेन, अल-कायदा और तालिबान के सदस्यों की संपत्तियों को जब्त करने की योजना को मंजूरी दी।

2020 पूर्व राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप का पहला महाभियोग औपचारिक रूप से संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की सीनेट में अपने परीक्षण चरण में चला गया। इसी दिन 2020 में अमेरिकी की सीनेट ने नाफ्टा के प्रतिस्थापन के रूप में संयुक्त राज्य-मेक्सिको-कनाडा समझौते की पुष्टि की। इसी दिन 2020 में केंद्रीय रक्षामंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने गुजरात के सूरत में स्थित हजीरा लार्सन एंड टुब्रो आर्मर्ड सिस्टम कॉम्प्लेक्स में 51वीं के-9 वज्र-टी तोप को हरी झंडी दिखाकर रवाना किया। 2020 में इसी दिन क्रिस्टोफर टॉल्किन, ब्रिटिश अकादमिक और संपादक का निधन हुआ।

2021 प्रसिद्ध वेनेजुएलाई प्राणीशास्त्री पेड्रो ट्रेबाऊ, क्रिस क्रैमर, प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश पत्रकार एवं फिल स्पेक्टर, अमेरिकी रिकॉर्ड निर्माता, गीतकार का निधन हुआ।

2022 माली के जाने माने राजनीतिज्ञ, प्रधानमंत्री व राष्ट्रपति रहे इब्राहिम बाउबकर कीता का निधन हुआ।

2023 कांग्रेस महासचिव जयराम रमेश ने अपने ट्विटर अकाउंट से ट्वीट करते हुए लिखा, उपराष्ट्रपति से लेकर कानून मंत्री तक न्यायपालिका पर हमले कर रहे हैं। यह सब न्यायपालिका को डराने और उसके बाद पूरी तरह से कब्जा करने के लिए उसके साथ टकराव की योजना है। सरकार न्यायपालिका पर पूर्ण अधीनता चाहती है, जो न्यायपालिका के लिए जहर की गोली के सामान है।

1938 Noted storyteller Sarat Chandra Chatterjee or Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, commonly known as Sarat Chandra, died in Calcutta. Among the famous writing works of Sharat Chandra, Srikant, Charitharan, Devdas, Parineeti and Pather Debi are prominent. But he got the most fame from the novel named Devdas. Devdas, published in 1917, was written by Sharat Chandra in Bhagalpur, Bihar and is said to have been his own story, written after meeting Chandramukhi in the red light area of Jogsar. A total of 20 films have been made on Devdas in many languages including Hindi. Among these, the characters of Devdas played by Dilip Kumar and Shahrukh Khan have been the most popular. Apart from this, excellent films have been made on all his stories. Sharat Chandra was born on 15 September 1876 in Debanandpur, a small village in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Sharat Chandra's childhood was spent in extreme poverty. He was very adventurous since childhood and loved acts of bravery. Most of his childhood was spent at his maternal uncle's house in Bhagalpur, Bihar. Sharat Chandra had gone to Burma in his youth, after returning from there he lived in Howrah for many years. He built his house in Samta, Howrah, which is known as Sharat Chandra Kuti. Sharat Chandra wrote novels in this house for 12 years. Sharat Chandra died on 16 January 1938 in Calcutta at the age of 61.
