ईस्वी सन 25 के 5 अगस्त को चीन में ग्वांगवू ने चांगान के विद्रोही किसानों की घेराबंदी के बाद हेंग राजवंश खत्म करते हुए झिन राजवंश की स्थापना की घोषणा की।

641 ऐसा माना जाता है कि इंग्लैंड के शॉर्पशायर के ओसवेस्ट्री में मर्सिया के युद्ध में मर्सिया के राजा पेंदा ने राजा ओस्वाल्ड नोरथुम्ब्रिया को हराया और उसकी हत्या कर दी।

1583 ब्रिटेन के यात्री और खोजी हम्फ्रे गिल्बर्ट ने सेंट जॉन्स, न्यूफाउंडलैंड और लैब्राडोर कनाडा में पहली अंग्रेजी कॉलोनी उत्तरी अमेरिका की स्थापना की।

1662 स्कॉटलैंड के प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार जेम्स एंडरसन का जन्म हुआ।

1654 फ्रांस की सेना ने स्पेन पर कब्जा किया।

1716 पेट्रोवाड़डिन की लड़ाई में सैलॉय के राजकुमार यूजीन के 83,300 ऑस्ट्रियाई सैनिकों ने सिलाहददर दामात अली पाशा को मार डाला और 150,000 तुर्क सेना को हराया।

1775 पहला स्पेनिश जहाज सेन कार्लोस सेन फ्रेंसिस्को की खाड़ी में पहुंचा।

1775 पश्चिम बंगाल के राजा नंदकुमार को कलकत्ता मंे फांसी दी गई। ब्रिटिश शासन के द्वारा भारत में धोखधड़ी के लिए दी गई यह अंतिम फांसी थी।

1781 डच और अंग्रेज सेनाओं के बीच डोगर बैंक में युद्ध हुआ।

1850 विश्व विख्यात फ्रांसीसी कथाकार गाय दी मोपासां (आँरी रने आल्बैर गी द मोपासां) का जन्म हुआ। उन्हें लघु कथा का मास्टर कहा जाता है। उन्होंने मनुष्य की नियति, युद्धों की निरर्थकता और फ्रांसीसी जनता के जीवन का सजीव चित्रण किया है। उनका एक कथन- किसी आदमी को धोखा देकर ही उससे पूरी तरह से बदला नहीं लिया जा सकता। उसे इस धोखे के बारे में मालूम भी होना चाहिए।

1874 जापान ने इंग्लैंड की तरह की डाक बचत प्रणाली शुरू की।

1882 जापान में मार्शल ला लगाया गया।

1884 फ्रांस द्वारा अमेरिका को उपहार में दी गई स्टेच्यू ऑफ लिबर्टी की स्थापना के लिए आधारशिला न्यूयॉर्क के हार्बर में बेदलए द्वीप पर रखी गयी।

1888 बेंज कार का अविष्कार करने वाले कार्ल बेंज ने अपनी पहली कार का पेटेंट करवाया। र्काल बेंज की पत्नी बेर्था बेंज जर्मनी के मानहाइम से प्फोर्जहाइम तक 104 किलोमीटर का सफर तय कर कार से इतनी लंबी दूरी तय करने वाली पहली व्यक्ति बनी।

1890 अंतरिक्ष में चाँद पर कदम रखने वाले दुनिया के पहले अंतरिक्ष यात्री नील आर्मस्ट्रांग का जन्म हुआ।

1891 अमेरिकन एक्सप्रेस ने विश्व का प्रथम यात्री या ट्रैवेलर्स चेक जारी किया।

1895 विख्यात जर्मन समाजशास्त्री एवं दार्शनिक, कम्युनिस्ट घोषणा पत्र के सहलेखक और महान दार्शनिक कार्ल मार्क्स के साथ फ्रेडरिक एंजेल्स का निधन लंदन में हुआ।

1901 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय राजनेता, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, पत्रकार, साहित्यकार तथा मध्य प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री हुए द्वारका प्रसाद मिश्रा का जन्म हुआ।

1905 रूस और जापान के शांति वार्ताकारों के बीच पहली बैठक अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति रुजवेल्ट के न्यूयॉर्क स्थित घर पर हुई।

1912 जापान में टोक्यो के गिंजा में पहली टैक्सी सेवा शुरू हुई।

1914 दुनिया का पहला इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रैफिक सिग्नल 5 अगस्त, 1914 को क्लीवलैंड, ओहियो में यूक्लिड एवेन्यू और ईस्ट 105वीं स्ट्रीट के कोने पर लगाया गया। ट्रैफिक लाइट के महत्व को देखते हुए और इसके प्रति जनजागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए 5 अगस्त को दुनिया भर में विश्व टैफिक लाइट दिवस मनाया जाता है।

1914 क्यूबा, उरुग्वे, मैक्सिको और अर्जेंटीना ने प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान तटस्थ रहने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन 1914 मांटेनेग्रो ने प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान ऑस्ट्रिया एवं हंगरी के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1915 जर्मनी की सेना पोलेंड की राजधानी वारसा में घुसी। 1915 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवि, लेखक एवं शिक्षक शिवमंगल सिंह सुमन का जन्म उन्नाव में हुआ। इसी दिन प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान वार्सा पर जर्मनी का अधिकार हो गया इससे पहले यह क्षेत्र रुस के अधिकार में था।

1921 अमेरिका और जर्मनी ने बर्लिन शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1923 हेनरी सुलिवान इंग्लिश चैनल को पार करने वालेे पहलेेे अमेरिकी बने।

1926 फ्रांस और जर्मनी के बीच व्यापार समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।

1944 जाने माने भारतीय अमीर, हीरा कारोबारी और फिल्म फाइनेंसर भरत शाह का जन्म हुआ।

1947 शिक्षक, संपादक और साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त हिंदी के प्रसिद्ध कवि वीरेन डंगवाल का जन्म कीर्तिनगर, टेहरी गढ़वाल में हुआ। इसी दिन इंडोनेशिया में हॉलैंड ने राजनीतिक कार्यवाई बंद की।

1949 इक्वाडोर की राजधानी क्विटो में आये 6.7 की तीव्रता वाले भूकंप से छह हजार लोगों की मौत हुई।

1950 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और असम के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री रहे गोपीनाथ बोरदोलोई का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन छत्तीसगढ़ के दांतेवाड़ा में माओवादी विरोधी क्रूर आदिवासी कांग्रेसी नेता, विधायक महेंद्र कर्मा का जन्म हुआ। यूपीए सरकार के दौरान माओवाद के बहाने आदिवासियों को उजाड़ने, उनके दमन के लिए सलवा जुडूम नाम से चलाए गये अभियान के महेंद्र कर्मा मुख्य कर्ता-धर्ता थे।

1960 अफ्रीकी देश बुर्कीनाफासो ने अपनी स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की।

1961 रूसी अंतरिक्ष यात्री यूरी गगारिन के ऐतिहासिक अंतरिक्ष यात्रा के चार महीने बाद सोवियत संघ ने अपने दूसरे अंतरिक्ष यात्री को अंतरिक्ष में भेजा।

1962 दुनिया की टाॅप सैक्स सिंबल अभिनेत्री और मॉडल मर्लिन मुनरो को लॉस एंजिल्स के अपने घर इन बर्थवुड में मृत पाया गया। मौत स्वाभाविक थी या साजिश इस पर बहुत विवाद हुआ।

1968 विख्यात फ्रांसीसी राजनीतिज्ञ मरिन ले पेन का जन्म हुआ।

1969 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेटर वेंकटेश प्रसाद का जन्म हुआ।

1972 लोकप्रिय तेलुगू फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल उदया भानु का जन्म सुल्तानाबाद, तेलंगाना में हुआ।

1973 सुधा रानी के नाम से जानी मानी कन्नड़, तेलुगू एवं मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल जयश्री का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1974 तनुजा और शोमू मुखर्जी की बेटी और अभिनेता अजय देवगन की पत्नी जानी मानी बॉलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री काजोल का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1980 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता वत्सल सेठ का जन्म हुआ।

1987 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बॉलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल जेनेलिया डिसूजा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। जेनेलिया महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री स्व. विलासराव देशमुख के पुत्र फिल्म अभिनेता रितेश देशमुख की पत्नी हैं।

1991 न्यायमूर्ति लीला सेठ दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट में जज बनने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला बनीं।

1996 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री और माॅडल अशिका रंगनाथ का जन्म हासन में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका के अटलांटा में हुए शताब्दी ओलंपिक का समापन आॅस्ट्रेलिया के सिडनी में मिलने के वादे के साथ हुआ।

1998 बुल्गारिया के प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिक एव 36वें प्रधानमंत्री हुए टोडर जिकोव का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रमुख राजनेता, असम के मुख्यमंत्री हुए केशब चंद्र गोगोई का निधन हुआ। 

1999 जानी मानी हिंदी और दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं की बोल्ड और खूबसूरत फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल महिमा मकवाना का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन मुंबई में अहसास चन्ना का जन्म हुआ। वे टेलीविजन और फिल्मों की खूबसूरत, लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हैं। इसी दिन चीन और ताइवान के बीच तनाव चरम पर पहुंचा।

2000 विश्व ख्यातिप्राप्त भारतीय क्रिकेटर लाला अमरनाथ का निधन हुआ।

2002 गोंजालो लोजाडा बालोविया के नये राष्ट्रपति चुने गये।

2003 एक आत्मघाती हमलावर द्वारा इंडोनेशिया के दक्षिण जकार्ता के सेतिबुडी में जेजेडब्ल्यू मैरियट होटल की लॉबी के बाहर एक कार बम में विस्फोट किया गया, जिसमें बारह लोगों की मौत हो गई और 150 घायल हो गए।

2005 पीपुल्स रिपब्लिक ऑफ चाइना ने औपचारिक रूप से हांगकांग के अखबार द स्ट्रेट्स टाइम्स के पत्रकार चिंग चेयोंग पर जासूसी करने का आरोप लगाया।

2006 ईरान ने नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार प्राप्त मानवाधिकारवादी लेखक शिरीन एबादी पर प्रतिबंध लगाया।

2008 अंडमान निकोबार द्वीप से 176 मील उत्तर-पूर्व में हिंद महासागर में 5.5 तीव्रता के भूकंप का झटका महसूस किया गया।

2010 केन्या के 70 प्रतिशत नागरिकों ने जनमत संग्रह में लोकतांत्रिक सुधारों के अंतर्गत नया संविधान बनाने का समर्थन किया। कश्मीर (भारत) के लेह में इसी दिन बादल फटने से तथा उसके बाद आई बाढ़ में 115 लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। इसी दिन कराची (पाकिस्तान) में एमक्यूएम विधायक रजा हैदर की हत्या के बाद चार दिन चली जातीय हिंसा में 70 लोगों की हत्या कर दी गई।

2011 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा के वैज्ञानिकों ने साइंस पत्रिका में मंगल ग्रह पर बहता पानी होने का दावा किया। इसी दिन नासा ने बृहस्पति का अध्ययन करने के लिए अंतरिक्ष शोध यान जूनो प्रक्षेपित किया। इसी दिन अफगानिस्तान में दस विदेशी सहायता श्रमिकों के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहायता मिशन के कार्यकर्ताओं को बड़खल प्रांत के कुरानवा मुंजन जिले में अज्ञात व्यक्तियों द्वारा मार डाला गया।

2012 अमेरिका में विस्कॉन्सिन के ओक क्रेक में एक सिख धर्म स्थल पर गोलीबारी करके सात लोगों को मार दिया गया। शूटर को पुलिस ने मार दिया।

2013 भारत की जूनियर महिला हॉकी टीम ने जर्मनी में आयोजित हुए विश्वकप में इंग्लैंड को 3-2 (1-1) से हराकर कांस्य पदक जीता।

2014 चाचा चौधरी, मोटू-पतलू इत्यादि बच्चों के तमाम कामिक्स कार्टून चरित्रों के निर्माता प्राण कुमार शर्मा का निधन हुआ।

2016 ब्राजील के रियो डी जनेरियो में 31वां ग्रीष्मकालीन ओलंपिक खेल आयोजन माराकाना स्टेडियम में शुरू हुआ।

2018 उत्तर प्रदेश के मुगलसराय रेलवे स्टेशन का नाम बदलकर दीनदयाल उपाध्याय रेलवे स्टेशन किया गया।

2019 केंद्र सरकार ने मनमानी कर एकतरफा कार्रवाई में जम्मू एवं कश्मीर से संविधान में उल्लेखित धारा 370 को हटा दिया और इस राज्य को केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में बांट दिया। अब इसे जम्मू एवं कश्मीर और लद्धाख केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के नाम से जाना जाता है।

2020 सर्वोच्च न्यायालय से अपने राजनीतिक एजेंडे के हिसाब से फैसला करवाने के बाद अयोध्या में राम मंदिर निर्माण के लिए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने भूमि पूजन किया।

2022 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी ने 5 अगस्त को महंगाई, बेरोजगारी और खाद्य पदार्थों पर लगी जीएसटी के खिलाफ देशव्यापी विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। प्रदर्शन से पहले कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी ने केंद्र पर हमला बोलते हुए कहा, लोकतंत्र की जो मौत हो रही है क्या लगता है आपको, क्या महसूस हो रहा है? इस देश ने जो 70 साल में बनाया उसे 8 साल में खत्म कर दिया, देश में लोकतंत्र नहीं, 4 लोगों की तानाशाही चल रही है। कांग्रेस सांसद राहुल गांधी ने कहा, हम महंगाई का मुद्दा उठाना चाहते हैं, चर्चा करना चाहते, लेकिन हमें हिरासत में लिया जा रहा है और सदन में भी चर्चा नहीं करने दे रहे हैं। देश की राजधानी में दिल्ली में संसद भवन और राष्ट्रपति भवन के बीच केंद्र सरकार के खिलाफ विरोध मार्च निकालने पर राहुल गांधी सहित कई कांग्रेस सांसदों को दिल्ली पुलिस ने हिरासत में ले लिया। कथित रूप से पुलिस ने कांग्रेस सांसदों के साथ मारपीट, अभद्रता की। कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी ने हिरासत में लेने से पहले मीडियाकर्मियों से बात करते हुए दिल्ली पुलिस पर पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ मारपीट करने का आरोप लगाया। गांधी ने कहा, हम यहां महंगाई और बेरोजगारी के मुद्दों पर खड़े हैं। हम आगे बढ़ना चाहते थे, लेकिन पुलिस ने हमें अनुमति नहीं दी। कांग्रेस सांसदों के साथ अभद्रता के बारे में पूछे जाने पर राहुल गांधी ने कहा कि यह ठीक है। हमारा काम इन ताकतों का विरोध करना है, हमारा काम यह सुनिश्चित करना है कि भारतीय लोकतंत्र की रक्षा हो। हमारा काम महंगाई और बेरोजगारी जैसे लोगों के मुद्दों को उठाना है और हम वही कर रहे हैं। इससे पहले कांग्रेस सांसद राहुल गांधी ने पार्टी सांसदों के साथ संसद भवन के गेट नंबर एक से विजय चौक तक मार्च किया। यहां राहुल गांधी समेत कांग्रेस के कई सांसद काले कपड़े पहने नजर आए तो वहीं मार्च में सबसे आगे चल रहे महिला सांसदों ने सब्जियों की माला पहनकर महंगाई और जीएसटी के खिलाफ अपना विरोध दर्ज करवाया। कांग्रेस राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी भी संसद भवन के गेट नंबर एक पर थोड़े समय के लिए इस विरोध प्रदर्शन में शामिल हुई।

1583 British traveler and explorer Humphrey Gilbert establishes the first English colony of North America in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

1662 James Anderson, famous historian of Scotland, was born.

1654 French army captured Spain.

1987 Genelia D'Souza, a well-known, beautiful, bold Bollywood film actress and model, was born in Bombay. Genelia Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Late. Vilasrao Deshmukh's son is married to film actor Riteish Deshmukh.

1991 Justice Leila Seth became the first Indian woman to be appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court.

1996 Ashika Ranganath, beautiful, popular actress and model of South Indian cinema, was born in Hassan. On the same day, the centenary Olympics held in Atlanta, USA ended with the promise of meeting Australia in Sydney.

1998 Todor Jikov, the famous politician and 36th Prime Minister of Bulgaria, passed away. Keshab Chandra Gogoi, a prominent politician of the Indian National Congress who became the Chief Minister of Assam, died on this day.

1999 Mahima Makwana, a well-known Hindi and South Indian-language bold and beautiful film and television actress and model, was born. Ahsaas Channa was born on this day in Mumbai. 2000 Lala Amarnath, world renowned Indian cricketer, passed away.

2002 Gonzalo Lozada was elected the new President of Balovia.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, we want to raise the issue of price rise, want to discuss it, but we are being detained and are not allowed to discuss it even in the House. Several Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, were detained by the Delhi Police after they took out a protest march against the central government between Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital. Congress MPs were allegedly manhandled, abused by the police. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while talking to media persons before being taken into custody, accused the Delhi Police of manhandling party workers. Gandhi said, we are standing here on the issues of inflation and unemployment. We wanted to proceed, but the police did not allow us. When asked about the indecency with Congress MPs, Rahul Gandhi said that it is fine. Our job is to oppose these forces, our job is to ensure that Indian democracy is protected. Our job is to raise the issues of the people like inflation and unemployment and we are doing the same. Earlier, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi along with party MPs marched from Gate No. 1 of Parliament House to Vijay Chowk. Here many Congress MPs including Rahul Gandhi were seen wearing black clothes, while women MPs leading the march registered their protest against price rise and GST by wearing garlands of vegetables. Congress National President Sonia Gandhi also joined the protest for a brief period at Gate No. 1 of the Parliament House.
