1347 अलाउद्दीन बहमन शाह ने दक्षिण भारत के दक्कन विजयनगरम में बहमनी सल्तनत (1317-1518) पहली स्वतंत्र मुस्लिम राजशाही की स्थापना की।

1492 स्पेन के शासन ने सभी यहूदियों को स्पेन से निकाल बाहर किया।

1492 विश्व विख्यात और कुख्यात इटली के नाविक और खोजी क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस ने तीन स्पेनिश जहाजों के साथ स्पेन से भारत की खोज के लिए प्रस्थान किया। भारत की बजाय वह अमेरिकी धरती पर उतरा।

1645 अल्लेरशेइम के युद्ध में फ्रांस ने बावेरिया को हराया।

1670 राजस्थान के प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार मुहणोत नैणसी का निधन हुआ।

1678 राबर्ट लासैले ने अमेरिका में पहले जहाज का निर्माण किया।

1749 फ्रांस के सहयोग से चंदा साहिब ने कर्नाटक के तत्कालीन नवाब अनवररुद्दीन को अंबर के युद्ध में परास्त कर उनकी हत्या की।

1780 मेजर पोफम की अगुआयी में कैप्टेन बू्रस ने सैन्य अभियान में ग्वालियर पर कब्जा किया।

1852 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में पहली बार आयोजित खेल कार्यक्रम का न्यू हैम्पशायर के लेकविनेपसाउकी में उद्घाटन किया गया।

1860 न्यूजीलैंड में दूसरा माओरी युद्ध शुरू हुआ।

1886 पंचवटी, यशोधरा, साकेत जैसी तमाम कालजयी रचनाओं के कवि मैथलीशरण गुप्त का जन्म चिरगांव, झांसी में हुआ।

1890 भारत के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी और पाकिस्तान में प्रथम उच्चायुक्त हुए श्रीप्रकाश का जन्म हुआ।

1892 बुल्गारिया में प्लोवदिव मेले में पहला इलेक्ट्रिक प्रकाश बल्ब प्रयोग किया गया।

1900 ऑटोमोबाइल टायर के बड़े उत्पादन वाली कंपनी फायरस्टोन टायर और रबर कंपनी हार्वे फायरस्टोन ने ऑकॉन, ओहियो, अमेरिका में स्थापित की गई।

1908 प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार, विचारक, लेखक, दार्शनिक, भाष्यकार और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रहे रोहित मेहता का जन्म हुआ।

1913 अमेरिका के कैलिफोर्निया के व्हीटलैंड में कृषि श्रमिकों ने मालिकों द्वारा किये जाने वाले शोषण उत्पीड़न के खिलाफ बड़ी हड़ताल आयोजित की जो मालिकों और सरकार के संयुक्त दमन द्वारा समाप्त करा दी गई।

1914 प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जर्मनी ने फ्रांस के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की। इसी दिन पहला समुद्री जहाज पनामा नहर से गुजरा।

1916 बदायूं में प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिल्मी गीतकार और शायर शकील बदायूँनी का जन्म हुआ। 1916 में इसी दिन ब्रिटेन से आयरलैंड की स्वतंत्रता के लिए संघर्षरत आयरिश राष्ट्रवादी नेता सर रोजर केस को ईस्टर राइजिंग अभियान में अपनी भूमिका के लिए देशद्रोह के आरोप में लंदन के पेंटोनविले जेल में फांसी दी गई।

1919 भारतीय संगीतकार तथा बाल अभिनेता जयदेव का जन्म नैरोबी, केन्या में हुआ।

1922 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी इंजीलवादी और लेखक रॉबर्ट समनर का जन्म हुआ।

1923 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति हार्डिंग के आकस्मिक निधन के बाद कैल्विन कूलिज ने अमेरिका के 30वें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली।

1925 अमेरिका की अंतिम सैन्य टुकड़ी ने निकारागुआ से वापस प्रस्थान किया।

1928 प्रतिष्ठित अग्रणी कन्नड़ कथाकार यशवंत चित्ताल का जन्म हानेहल्ली, कर्नाटक में हुआ।

1933 मिकी माउस वॉच पहली बार पेश की गई।

1936 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय शास्त्रीय गायक छन्नूलाल मिश्रा का जन्म आजमगढ़ में हुआ। इसी दिन अफ्रीकी अमेरिकी धावक जेसी ओवेंस ने बर्लिन समर ओलंपिक में नाजी नेताओं के आर्यन वर्चस्व को डिगाते हुए चार पदक जीते।

1939 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेटर अपूर्व सेनगुप्ता का जन्म हुआ।

1942 राज्यसभा सदस्य, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता, पर्यावरण और ऊर्जा क्षेत्र की प्रमुख कारोबारी, भारत की सबसे अमीर महिलाओं में से एक अनु आगा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1946 9 बच्चों के पिता अमेरिका के लुई जे कोच ने सोचा कि उन्होंने रिटायरमेंट के बाद बच्चों के लिए एक पार्क शुरू करना चाहिए। अपने बच्चों से बात की तो बच्चों ने विचार दिया कि पार्क की एक थीम होनी चाहिए। विमर्श के बाद पार्क की थीम सांता क्लॉज चुनी गई और इसी थीम पर पार्क को सांता क्लॉज लैंड नाम दिया गया। इंडियाना में 3 अगस्त 1946 को ये पार्क शुरू हुआ। पार्क में बच्चों के लिए टॉय शॉप, रेस्टोरेंट, राइड्स और सांता क्लॉज बनाए गए। बच्चों को ये पसंद आने लगा और धीरे-धीरे यहां आने वाले बच्चों की संख्या बढ़ने लगी। 1955 में अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति भी इस पार्क में घूमने आए। आज दुनिया भर के करोड़ों बच्चे, पर्यटक यह पार्क देखने आते हैं। 1984 में हैलोवीन और अमेरिकी इंडिपेंडेंस डे की थीम को भी जोड़ा गया और पार्क का नाम बदलकर हॉलिडे वर्ल्ड कर दिया गया।

1948 भारतीय परमाणु ऊर्जा आयोग की स्थापना हुई। 

1948 वाणीश्री के नाम से सुप्रसिद्ध कन्नड़, तेलुगू, तमिल, मलयालम आदि दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं की फिल्मों की बहुप्रतिभावान, लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल रत्ना कुमारी का जन्म नेल्लोर में हुआ।

1949 इंडोनेशिया ने युद्ध विराम की घोषणा की।

1955 भारत के प्रसिद्ध कंप्यूटर वैज्ञानिक चंद्रशेखरन मोहन का जन्म तमिलनाडु में हुआ।

1957 अब्दुल रहमान को मलेशिया का नया नेता चुना गया जिनके नेतृत्व में मलेशिया ने ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता हासिल की थी। इसी दिन राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी के पुत्र और प्रसिद्ध पत्रकार देवदास गांधी का निधन हुआ।

1958 नॉटिलस सबमरीन को 21 जनवरी 1954 अमेरिकी नेवी में कमीशन किया गया था। ये न्यूक्लियर एनर्जी से चलने वाली दुनिया की पहली सबमरीन थी। 9 जून 1958 को नॉटिलस अपने मिशन पर निकली, लेकिन नॉर्थ पोल में एक बड़ी समुद्री चट्टान की वजह से मिशन रद्द करना पड़ा। 1 अगस्त को मिशन दोबारा शुरू किया गया। 3 अगस्त 1958 में नॉटिलस ने नॉर्थ पोल को पार किया। ऐसा करने वाली वो दुनिया की पहली सबमरीन बन गई थी। नॉर्थ पोल को पार करने के 96 घंटे बाद 7 अगस्त को सबमरीन ग्रीनलैंड पहुंची। यहां अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति आइजनहावर सबमरीन के क्रू का स्वागत करने मौजूद थे।

1959 प्रख्यात जापानी अभियंता कोइची तनक का जन्म हुआ।

1960 पश्चिमी अफ्रीकी देश नाइजर ने फ्रांस से स्वतंत्रता हासिल की। 1960 में इसी दिन भारतीय क्रिकेटर गोपाल शर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1966 प्रसिद्ध फिल्म अभिनेता फैजल खान का जन्म हुआ।

1967 प्रसिद्ध पंजाबी गायक मनमोहन वारिस का जन्म होशियारपुर में हुआ।

1968 फ्रांस ने मुरुओरा द्वीप पर परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1977 जाने माने फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेता, स्टेंडअप काॅमेडियन सुनील ग्रोवर का जन्म मंडी डबवाली हरियाणा में हुआ। इसी दिन दुनिया का पहला पर्सनल कंप्यूटर टीएसआर-80 मार्केट में आया। इसकी कीमत थी 599 डॉलर। इसमें एक लैंग्वेज इंटरप्रेटर, 4केबी रैम, 1.77 मेगाहर्ट्ज 80 प्रोसेसर, 12इंच मॉनिटर, कैसेट रिकॉर्डर और एक कैसेट टेप दी जाती गई। कैसेट में ब्लैकजेक और बैकगेमन नाम से दो गेम भी दिए गए।

1981 जाने माने टेलीविजन शो प्रस्तोता, अभिनेता, काॅमेडियन, निर्माता, निर्देशक, गायक और संगीतज्ञ मनीष पाॅल का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन फ्रांस ने प्रशांत महासागर में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1983 जानी मानी हिंदी, असमिया और दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल अशीमा भल्ला का जन्म असम में हुआ।

1984 भारतीय फुटबॉलर सुनील छेत्री का जन्म हुआ था। इसी दिन 1984 में विख्यात अमेरिकी तैराक और ओलंपिक विजेता रियान लोक्टे का जन्म हुआ।

1985 प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता बाबा आम्टे को समाज सेवा के लिए रेमन मैगसेसे पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

1990 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, राजनीतिज्ञ तथा उड़ीसा और मध्य प्रदेश के राज्यपाल हुए सी. एम. पुनाचा का निधन हुआ।

1992 जानी मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, अमेजन, क्लिनिक प्लस, कैडबरी, कोका-कोला इत्यादि तमाम कंपनियों, ब्रांडस की माॅडल बर्खा सिंह का जन्म बीकानेर, राजस्थान में हुआ।

1993 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी प्रेमकृष्ण खन्ना का शाहजहांपुर में निधन हुआ। यह हिदुस्तान रिपब्लिकन ऐसोसिएशन के प्रमुख सदस्य और शाहजहाँपुर के रेल विभाग में ठेकेदार थे। काकोरी कांड में प्रयुक्त माउजर पिस्तौल के कारतूस इन्हीं के शस्त्र-लाइसेंस पर खरीदे गये थे। खन्ना ब्रिटिश भारतीय सरकार ने माउजर पिस्तौल का लाइसेंस दे रखा था। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध आध्यात्मिक चिंतक तथा वेदांत दर्शनशास्त्री स्वामी चिन्मयानंद का निधन हुआ। 

1998 मुंबई के बांद्रा में इमारत ढहने से 35 व्यक्तियों की मौत हुई।

2000 ब्रिटेन की क्वीन मदर ने अपनी 100वीं वर्षगांठ मनायी। एलिजाबेथ एंजेला मॉर्गरीट बोवेस-ल्यों सम्राट जॉर्ज षष्ठम की पत्नी और महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय और राजकुमारी मार्गरेट की माँ थी। उनका विवाह 1936 में 1952 यूनाइटेड किंगडम की क्वीन कनसोर्ट रही, जिसके बाद उन्हे रानी माँ महारानी एलिजाबेथ का दर्जा मिला। एलिजाबेथ एंजेला मार्गुराइट बोवेस-ल्यों 11 दिसंबर 1936 से 6 फरवरी 1952 तक किंग जॉर्ज षष्ठम की पत्नी के रूप में यूनाइटेड किंगडम और ब्रिटिश राष्ट्रमंडल डोमिनियन की रानी थीं। अगस्त 1947 में ब्रिटिश राज भंग होने तक वह भारत की अंतिम महारानी थीं उनका जन्म सन 1900 में 4 अगस्त को और निधन 30 मार्च 2002 को हुआ। 

2001 ऐनी जैकलीन हैथवे अभिनीत पहली फिल्म द प्रिंसेस डायरी संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में रिलीज की गई। पटकथा जीना वेंडकोस, निर्देशक गैरी मार्शल और निर्माण कंपनी वॉल्ट डिज्नी पिक्चर्स एवं ब्राउनहाउस प्रोडक्शंस हैं। ऐनी जैकलीन हैथवे बोल्ड, खूबसूरत, कुशल अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हैं। अकादमी पुरस्कार, ब्रिटिश अकादमी फिल्म पुरस्कार, गोल्डन ग्लोब पुरस्कार और प्राइमटाइम एमी पुरस्कार विजेता ऐनी की फिल्मों ने दुनिया भर में 6.8 बिलियन डॉलर से अधिक की कमाई की है, और वह 2009 में फोर्ब्स सेलिब्रिटी 100 की सूची में शामिल हुईं।

2003 अमेरिका के एंग्लिन चर्च ने एक समलैंगिक को बिशप नियुक्त करने को मंजूदी दी।

2004 2001 में अमेरिका में आतंकवादी हमले के बाद बंद किए गए स्टैच्यू आफ लिबर्टी को जनता के लिये दोबारा खोला गया। अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यान मैसेंजर बुध ग्रह के लिए 2004 में इसी दिन रवाना हुआ।

2005 चुनाव में जीत के बाद महमूद अहमदीनेजाद ईरान के राष्ट्रपति बने।

2006 अमेरिका ने भारत को यूरेनियम संवर्धन में सहायता नहीं देने का ऐलान किया। इसी दिन 2006 में इजराइल और लेबनान के बीच हुए युद्ध के बाद का सबसे बड़ा सीमा संघर्ष हुआ।

2007 इंटरनेशनल स्पेस स्टेशन के लिए भेजा गया रूसी अंतरिक्ष यान प्रोग्रेस एम-61 सफलतापूर्वक अपनी कक्षा में पहुँचा।

2008 प्रसिद्ध रूसी इतिहासकार और लेखक एलेक्जेंडर सोलजेनित्सिन का निधन हुआ।

2009 एरिक एमर्सन श्मिट ने गूगल में नौकरी के लिए एप्पल इंक से इस्तीफा दिया।

2010 सूर्य में हुए कोरोनल मास इजेक्शन के कारण उत्त्पन्न हुई आवेशित चुंबकीय गैसीय बादलों की सुनामी पृथ्वी की कक्षा की ओर बढ़ने की खगोलविदों ने चेतावनी दी।

2012 भारत में कार्यस्थल पर महिलाओं के यौन उत्पीड़न के खिलाफ सुरक्षा विधेयक 2010 पारित हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी तैराक माइकल फेल्प्स ने लंदन ओलिंपिक में 17वां गोल्ड मेडल जीता। फेल्प्स के नाम ओलिंपिक के रिकॉर्ड 28 मेडल हैं, जिनमें 23 गोल्ड हैं।

2016 माओवादी नेता पुष्पकमल दहल प्रचंड नेपाल के 39 वें प्रधानमन्त्री बने।

2018 आंध्रप्रदेश में कुरनूल जिले में ग्रेनाइट की एक खदान में हुए विस्फोट में ग्यारह श्रमिक मारे गए। इसी दिन लोकसभा ने राष्ट्रीय खेल विश्वविद्यालय विधेयक 2018 पारित किया। 2018 में इसी दिन अफगानिस्तान के पूर्वी प्रांत पकतिया में एक मस्जिद पर आत्मघाती हमले में 29 लोग मारे गए और 80 लोग घायल हुए। इसी दिन बंबई शेयर बाजार 37 हजार 556 की नई ऊंचाई पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का 11 हजार 361 पर पहुंच गया।

2022 दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट में एक जनहित याचिका (पीआईएल) दायर की गई, जिसमें पतंगबाजी और संबंधित गतिविधियों पर पूर्ण प्रतिबंध लगाने की मांग की गई है। पतंग उड़ाने वाले खतरनाक धागे यानी माझा से हो रहे नुकसान को लेकर अधिवक्ता संसार पाल सिंह द्वारा दायर जनहित याचिका में कहा गया है कि राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में पतंगबाजी से इंसानों और पक्षियों का जीवन और सुरक्षा खतरे में है। याचिका में पतंगों के उड़ने, बनाने, बेचने-खरीदने, भंडारण और परिवहन पर पूर्ण प्रतिबंध लगाने की मांग करते हुए कहा गया है कि यह एकमात्र समाधान है, क्योंकि मांझे से हादसा होने पर दोषियों को पकड़ना मुश्किल होता है। ऐसी घटनाएं होने पर कुछ मामलों में तो पतंग के मांझे से दुर्घटना होने पर आरोपी के बारे में पता लगना या उसकी जिम्मेदारी तय करने के लिए उसे पकड़ना कुल मिलाकर असंभव रहता है। याचिका के अनुसार पतंगबाजी की गतिविधि के दौरान प्रतियोगी एक-दूसरे की पतंग की डोरी काटने में लगे रहते हैं। वकील की ओर से दलील दी गई है कि अक्सर देखा जाता है कि पतंगबाज चाहता है कि कांच या धातु की परत वाले मांझे का इस्तेमाल करे, जो कि काफी खतरनाक है। याचिका में कहा गया है कि स्ट्रिंग को तोड़ना कठिन बनाने के लिए, उन्हें एक मजबूत स्ट्रिंग की आवश्यकता होती है, जिसे लोकप्रिय रूप से चीनी मांझा के रूप में जाना जाता है, जिसमें निर्माता एक कांच का लेप लगाते हैं, जो कई बार मनुष्यों और पक्षियों को चोट पहुंचाता है। याचिका में तर्क दिया गया है कि दिल्ली पुलिस अधिनियम, 1978 की धारा 94 के अनुसार पतंगबाजी की गतिविधि पहले से ही प्रतिबंधित है, जिसमें यह प्रावधान किया गया है कि कोई भी व्यक्ति पतंग या ऐसी कोई अन्य चीज नहीं उड़ाएगा, जिससे व्यक्तियों, जानवरोंध्पक्षियों या संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंच सकता है।

1939 Apoorva Sengupta, famous Indian cricketer, was born.

1942 Anu Aga, member of the Rajya Sabha, social activist, environmental and energy business leader, one of India's richest women, was born in Bombay.

1946 Louis J. Koch of America, father of 9 children, thought that he should start a park for children after retirement. Talking to my children, the children suggested that the park should have a theme. After discussion, the theme of the park was chosen as Santa Claus and on this theme the park was named Santa Claus Land. This park started on August 3, 1946 in Indiana. Toy shops, restaurants, rides and Santa Claus were made for the children in the park. Children started liking it and gradually the number of children coming here started increasing. In 1955, the US President also came to visit this park. Today crores of children and tourists from all over the world come to see this park. Halloween and American Independence Day themes were also added in 1984, and the park was renamed Holiday World.

The 1958 Nautilus submarine was commissioned into the US Navy on 21 January 1954. It was the world's first submarine to run on nuclear energy.
