293 ईसा पूर्व में रोम की सौंदर्य की देवी वीनस के सबसे प्राचीन मंदिर की खोज की गई। बाद में इसमें कई सुधार और विस्तार किए गये। यह शुक्र ग्रह का ज्ञात सबसे पुराना मंदिर 293 ईसा पूर्व का है। माना जाता है कि इसका उद्घाटन 18 अगस्त को हुआ था। इस तिथि पर विनालिया रस्टिका, वेनेरालिया पर्व एवं 1 अप्रैल को वीनस वर्टिकोर्डिया त्यौहार मनाए जाते हैं। वीनस नाम से शुक्र रोमन देवी है, जिसके कार्यों में प्रेम, सौंदर्य, इच्छा, काम वासना (सैक्स), प्रजनन क्षमता, समृद्धि और जीत शामिल हैं। रोमन पौराणिक कथाओं में, वह अपने बेटे एनीस के माध्यम से रोमन लोगों की पूर्वज जो ट्रॉय के पतन से बच गया और इटली भाग गया। जूलियस सीजर ने उस पर अपना पूर्वज होने का दावा किया। शुक्र कई धार्मिक त्योहारों का केंद्र रहा और रोमन धर्म में कई पंथ उपाधियों के तहत पूजनीय था। रोमनों ने उसके यूनानी समकक्ष एफ्रोडाइट के मिथकों और प्रतिमा विज्ञान को रोमन कला और लैटिन साहित्य के लिए अनुकूलित किया। पश्चिम की बाद की शास्त्रीय परंपरा में, शुक्र प्रेम और कामुकता के अवतार के रूप में ग्रीको-रोमन पौराणिक कथाओं में सबसे व्यापक रूप से संदर्भित देवताओं में से एक बन गया। चित्रों में सामान्यतः पर नग्न चित्रित किया जाता है।

1700 मराठा साम्राज्य के सेनानायक हुए बाजीराव प्रथम का जन्म हुआ।

1734 मराठा साम्राज्य के 11वें पेशवा यानी राजा रघुनाथ राव का जन्म हुआ।

1757 भारत पर राज कर रही ब्रिटेन की ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी ने पहला एक रुपये का सिक्का ढाला।

1765 जोसेफ द्वितीय पवित्र रोमन साम्राज्य के सम्राट बने।

1872 महाराष्ट्र के नेत्रहिन शास्त्रीय गायक, संगीतज्ञ तथा संगीत शिक्षक विष्णु दिगंबर का पलुस्कर जन्म हुआ।

1891 कैरेबियाई द्वीप मार्टिनीक्यु में चक्रवाती तूफान से 700 की मौत।

1900 भारत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू की बहन तथा महिला स्वतंत्रता सेनानी विजयलक्ष्मी पंडित का जन्म हुआ।

1920 अमेरिकी संविधान में उन्नीसवां संशोधन (लेखिका एलिजाबेथ कैडी स्टैंटन और सुसान बी.) कर अमेरिका में महिलाओं के मताधिकार की गारंटी दी गई।

1923 परमवीर चक्र विजेता भारतीय सैनिक ए.बी. तारापोरे का जन्म हुआ।

1924 फ्रांस ने जर्मनी से अपनी सेनाएँ वापस बुलानी शुरु की।

1936 प्रसिद्ध गीतकार, कवि, फिल्म पटकथा लेखक, कहानीकार और फिल्म निर्देशक गुलजार यानी संपूर्ण लाल कालरा का जन्म हुआ।

1937 टोयोटा इंडस्ट्रीज की सफलता के बाद टोयोटा इंडस्ट्रीज के संस्थापक साकी टोयोदा के बेटे कीइचिरो टोयोदा ने जापान में टोयोटा मोटर कंपनी की स्थापना की।

1938 पद्मभूषण सम्मान प्राप्त कार्डियोलोजिस्ट, सर्जन, औषधीय मामलों के प्रोफेसर और लेखक बेल्ले मुनप्पा हेगड़े का जन्म उडूपी में हुआ।

1940 पहली बार मौसम मानचित्र का टेलीविजन पर प्रसारण हुआ। बंबई में गिवे पटेल का जन्म हुआ। गिवे प्रसिद्ध भारतीय कवि, नाटककार, चित्रकार और साथ ही एक चिकित्सक हैं। वह उन लेखकों के समूह से हैं जिन्होंने खुद को हरित आंदोलन की सदस्यता ले ली है जो पर्यावरण की रक्षा के प्रयास में शामिल है। गिवे की कविताएँ प्रकृति के प्रति गहरी चिंताओं की बात करती हैं और उसके प्रति मानव की क्रूरता को उजागर करती हैं।

1945 सुकर्णो ने इंडोनेशिया के प्रथम राष्ट्रपति के रूप तके कामकाज शुरू किया।। इसी दिन 1945 में स्वतंत्रता सेनानी नेताजी सुभाष चंद बोस ताईवान के ताईहोकु में विमान दुर्घटना में बुरी तरह घायल हुए, बाद में एक सैन्य अस्पताल में उनकी मृत्यु हुई।

1948 ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने 4-0 की एशेज श्रृंखला जीती उसने एक भी मैच गंवाए बिना इंग्लैंड का पूरा पहला टेस्ट क्रिकेट मैच जीतकर द इनविजनल खिताब हासिल किया।

1949 भुवनेश्वर को ओडिशा की राजधानी बनाया गया। इसी दिन हंगरी में संविधान लागू हुआ। 

1951 पश्चिम बंगाल के खड़गपुर में भारतीय प्रोद्योगिकी संस्थान की स्थापना हुई।

1952 उड़ीसा के कांग्रेस राजनेता, राज्यसभा सदस्य, डेली उड़ीसा संबाद अखबार के संस्थापक, फिल्म निर्माता और कारोबारी सौम्य रंजन पटनायक का जन्म हुआ।

1956 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेटर संदीप पाटिल का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1958 विवादास्पद रूसी लेखक व्लादिमीर नोबोकोव के यौन कुंठा से भरे विवादित उपन्यास लोलिता का अमेरिका में प्रकाशन हुआ।

1959 भारत की वर्तमान वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण का जन्म मदुरई में हुआ।

1963 अमेरिका में जेम्स मेरीडिथ मिसिसीपी विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक करने वाला पहला अश्वेत व्यक्ति बना।

1973 अमेरिका के बोस्टन में पहले एफ एम रेडियों स्टेशन के निर्माण को मंजूरी मिली।

1976 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी टेलीविजन और फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा खूबसूरत, बोल्ड माॅडल संगीता घोष का जन्म शिवपुरी मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ।

1980 बंबई में खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल प्रीति झंगियानी का जन्म हुआ।

1982 सोवियत संघ द्वारा एक महिला अंतरिक्ष यात्री अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन सेल्युत-7 के लिए भेजी गई।

1983 एक तूफान एलिसिया के कारण अमेरिका के टेक्सास में गैल्वेस्टन के पास जबरदस्त भूस्खलन हुआ जिससे 2.6 बिलियन डॉलर का नुकसान हुआ और 21 लोग मारे गए।

1986 जाने माने भारतीय कबड्डी खिलाड़ी मंजीत छिल्लर का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1989 जानी मानी पंजाबी और हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल इहाना ढिल्लों का जन्म फरीदकोट, पंजाब में हुआ। इसी दिन गाजा पट्टी में फिलिस्तीनी कर्मचारियों ने इजरायल में हड़ताल की। यह हड़ताल इजरायली सरकार द्वारा कंप्यूटरीकृत पहचान पत्र जारी करने के विरोध में थी जिससे सरकारी और निजी संस्थान बंद रहे। इसी दिन कोलम्बियाई राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार लुइस कार्लोस गैलन को सोचाचा, कुंडमारमस्का शहर में एक सार्वजनिक प्रदर्शन में हत्या कर दी गई।

1990 साहित्यकार तथा सरस्वती पत्रिका के संपादक श्री नारायण चतुर्वेदी का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध मराठी थिएटर कलाकार, फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल नेहा महाजन का जन्म तालेगांव में हुआ।

1994 एक आयरिश जन नेता मार्टिन काहिल की डबलिन में हत्या कर दी गयी।

1995 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी सुभाशीष बोस का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ।

1996 अफ्रीका में 900 मिलियन मधुमक्खियों ने फलों और फूलों के पौधों पर कब्जा कर उन्हें करीब - करीब नष्ट कर दिया।

1998 डॉक्टर राबर्ट लाजारा द्वारा किये गये हृदय के ऑप्रेशन को अमरीका में पहली बार इंटरनेट पर दिखाया गया। 1999 में इसी दिन तुर्की में भूकम्प से लगभग 45000 लोगों की मौत।

2000 इंग्लैंड ने वेस्टइंडीज को हराकर दो दिन में टेस्ट जीतने का इतिहास रचा।

2005 इंडोनेशिया के जावा द्वीप में भारी बिजली कटौती हुई जो लगभग 100 मिलियन लोगों को प्रभावित करने वाला यह इतिहास में सबसे बड़ा और व्यापक बिजली कटौती घटनाक्रम बन गया।

2006 बांग्लादेश के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति हुसैन मोहम्मद इरशाद को विशेष अदालत ने भ्रष्टाचार के मामले में बरी किया।

2007 विवादास्पद ब्रिटिश गायिका लिली एलेन के अमेरिका में घुसने पर प्रतिबन्ध लगा।

2008 उत्तर प्रदेश में मायावती सरकार ने छठे वेतन आयोग की सिफारिशों को लागू करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन पाकिस्तानी राष्ट्रपति परवेज मुशर्रफ ने महाभियोग की आशंका के बीच इस्तीफा दिया।

2012 बताया गया कि उत्तर अटलांटिक संधि संगठन नाटो के हवाई हमले में अफगानिस्तान के कम से कम 13 आतंकवादियों की मौत हुई।

2013 पश्चिम बंगाल में एक बस में बम विस्फोट में छह लोग मारे गए।

2017 फिनलैंड में हुए पहले आतंकवादी हमले में दो लोग मारे गए और आठ घायल हो गए।

2019 आइसलैंड में करीब 100 कार्यकर्ताओं, अधिकारियों और अन्य नागरिकों ने ओकजोकुल ग्लेशियर का संस्कार किया, जो एक बार छह वर्ग मील (15.5 किमी 2) को कवर करने के बाद पूरी तरह से पिघल गया।

The oldest temple to Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty, was discovered in 293 BC. Later many improvements and expansions were made in it. The oldest known temple of Venus dates back to 293 BC. It is believed to have been inaugurated on 18 August. On this date Vinalia Rustica, Veneralia Parva and Venus Verticordia festivals are celebrated on 1st April. Venus is a Roman goddess whose functions include love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory. In Roman mythology, she is the progenitor of the Roman people through her son Aeneas who survived the fall of Troy and fled to Italy. Julius Caesar claimed him as his ancestor. Venus was the center of many religious festivals and was revered under many cult titles in Roman religion. The Romans adapted the myths and iconography of her Greek counterpart Aphrodite to Roman art and Latin literature. In the post-classical tradition of the West, Venus became one of the most widely referenced deities in Greco-Roman mythology as the embodiment of love and sexuality. She is usually depicted nude in paintings.

1973 Approval was granted for the construction of the first FM radio station in Boston, USA.

1976 Beautiful, bold Well-known television and film actress and beautiful, bold model Sangeeta Ghosh was born in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh.

1980 Beautiful, bold, famous Indian film actress and model Preeti Jhangiani was born in Bombay.

1982 A female astronaut was sent by the Soviet Union to the space station Salyut-7.

1983 Hurricane Alicia causes a massive landslide near Galveston in Texas, US, causing $2.6 billion in damage and killing 21 people.

1986 Manjeet Chhillar, noted Indian kabaddi player, was born in Delhi.

1989 Ihana Dhillon, noted Punjabi and Hindi film actress, model, was born in Faridkot, Punjab. On the same day, Palestinian workers in the Gaza Strip went on strike in Israel. The strike was in protest against the issuance of computerized identity cards by the Israeli government, leading to the closure of public and private institutions. On the same day, Colombian presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán was assassinated in a public demonstration in the town of Sochacha, Cundamarasca.

1990 Shri Narayan Chaturvedi, litterateur and editor of Saraswati Patrika, passed away. On this day famous Marathi theater artist, film actress and model Neha Mahajan was born in Talegaon.
