986 बीजेंटाइन-बल्गेरियाई युद्ध में कॉमिटोपुली सैमुअल और एरन द्वारा निर्देशित बुल्गारियाई लोगों ने ट्रोजन के गेट पर बीजान्टिन सेनाओं को हराया, बीजान्टिन सम्राट बेसिल द्वितीय बमुश्किल से बच पाए।

1186 जॉर्जेनबर्ग संधि के तहत स्टायरिया के ड्यूक ओट्टोकर चतुर्थ और ऑस्ट्रिया के ड्यूक लियोपोल्ड वी, ने एक विरासत समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए जिसमें ओट्टोकर ने अपनी डची लियोपोल्ड और अपने बेटे फ्रेडरिक को सशर्त के तहत दी कि ऑस्ट्रिया और स्टायरिया अब से अविभाजित रहेंगे।

1386 अल्बानिया के प्रिंसडोम के शासक कार्ल टोपिया ने वेनिस गणराज्य के साथ गठबंधन बनाया, गठबंधन के सभी युद्धों में भाग लेने और बदले में ओटोमंस के खिलाफ तटीय सुरक्षा प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हुए।

1424 वर्न्यूइल की लड़ाई में ड्यूक ऑफ बेडफोर्ड जॉन के नेतृत्व में एक अंग्रेजी सेना ने जीन द्वितीय, ड्यूक ऑफ एलेनकॉन, जॉन स्टीवर्ट और डगलस के अर्ल आर्चीबाल्ड के नेतृत्व वाल बड़ी फ्रांसीसी सेना को हराया।

1488 टूर्कू के बिशप कोनराड बिट्ज ने फिनलैंड की सबसे पुरानी ज्ञात पुस्तक मिसेल अबोएन्से की प्रस्तावना की तिथि अंकित की। मिसेल अबोएन्से फिनलैंड के लिए छपी पहली किताब थी। यह जनता के इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली एक प्रार्थना पुस्तक थी। यह डोमिनिकन पूजा-पद्धति की परंपरा का पालन करती है, जिसे वर्ष 1330 के आसपास टूर्कू धार्मिक आधिकारिक पूजा-पद्धति के रूप में अपनाया गया था। 1455 में जर्मनी में जोहान गुटेनबर्ग द्वारा प्रिंटिंग प्रेस के आविष्कार के काफी बाद इस किताब को प्रेस में छापा गया।

1498 पोप अलेक्जेंडर छठे के पुत्र सेसारे बोर्गिया, कार्डिनलेट से इस्तीफा देने वाले इतिहास के पहले व्यक्ति बने, इसी दिन, फ्रांस के राजा लुई बारहवें ने उनका नाम ड्यूक ऑफ वैलेंटिनोइस रखा।

1560 स्कॉलैंड की संसद ने स्कॉटिश राष्ट्रीय धर्म के रूप में प्रोटेस्टेंट इसाई धर्म को स्वीकार किया और कैथोलिकवाद का परित्याग किया।

1563 13 साल की आयु में चार्ल्स नौवें को वयस्क घोषित कर फ्रांस का राजा बनाया गया।

1945 भारत में जन्मे विख्यात ब्रिटिश उपन्यासकार, चिंतक, आलोचक, लेखक जॉर्ज ऑरवेल का व्यंग्यपूर्ण रूपक एनिमल फार्म प्रकाशित हुआ। यह एक व्यंग्यात्मक रूपक उपन्यास है। यह कथा मानवरूपी खेत जानवरों के एक समूह की कहानी बताती है जो अपने मानव किसान के खिलाफ विद्रोह करते हैं, जो कुछ बनाने की उम्मीद करते हैं। एक ऐसा समाज जहां जानवर समान, स्वतंत्र और खुश रह सकें।

1945 सुकर्णों और मोहम्मद हट्टा ने अपने देश इंडोनेशिया की नीदरलैंड से आजादी की घोषणा की।

1947 भारत और पाकिस्तान के विभाजन के बाद 17 अगस्त 1947 को रेडक्लिफ रेखा भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच सीमा घोषित की गई। लाइन का नाम सर सिरिल रैडक्लिफ के नाम पर रखा गया है, जिन्हें 88 मिलियन लोगों के साथ 4,50,000 किमी वर्ग क्षेत्र को समान रूप से विभाजित करने के लिए नियुक्त किया गया था। इसी दिन भारत की आजादी के बाद पहले ब्रिटिश सैन्य बेड़े ने स्वदेश वापसी के लिए प्रस्थान किया।

1949 प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी पुलिन बिहारी दास का निधन हुआ।

1957 सचिन के नाम से लोकप्रिय हिंदी एवं मराठी फिल्म अभिनेता, गायक, निर्माता-निर्देशक, लेखक सचिन पिलगांवकर का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1959 सोवियत संघ और इराक ने इराक में परमाणु संयंत्र के निर्माण के लिये एक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये। इसी दिन माइल्स डेविस की जैज संगीत रिकॉर्डिंग ब्लू ऑफ काइंड रिलीज हुई जो सर्वाधिक चर्चित हुई।

1974 ग्याल्टेन सैमटेन नाम से प्रसिद्ध बरखा मदान, प्रसिद्ध भारतीय बौद्ध नन, प्रसिद्ध मॉडल, ब्यूटी क्वीन, अभिनेत्री और फिल्म निर्माता, टेलीविजन धारावाहिक कलाकार, टीवी शो का जन्म पंजाब में हुआ।

1978 दिशा वकानी एक भारतीय अभिनेत्री तथा हास्य कलाकार है। इनका जन्म गुजरात में हुआ।

1982 जर्मनी में पहली सीडी (कंपेक्ट डिस्क) लोगों के लिये उपलब्ध कराई़ गई। प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार फादर कामिल बुल्के का निधन हुआ।

1987 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री श्रद्धा आर्या का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन जर्मन तानाशाह एडॉल्फ हिटलर का सहयोगी रहा रूडोल्फ हेस जेल में मृत पाया गया। इसी दिन जानी मानी भारतीय हिंदी, मराठी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल बेनाफ दादाचंजी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1988 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जिया-उल-हक और अमेरिका के राजदूत अर्नोल्ड राफेल की एक हवाई दुर्घटना में मौत हुई।

1993 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल निधि अग्रवाल का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ। इसी दिन पहली बार लोगों को लंदन स्थित ब्रिटिश महारानी के महल बकिंघम पैलेस में अंदर आने की अनुमति दी गयी

1994 अमेरिका और जापान ने वाशिंगटन में पेटेंट समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1995 हॉवर्ड ई. कोच, प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी नाटककार और पटकथा लेखक निधन हुआ।

1998 राष्ट्रपति बिल क्लिंटन अपने अनैतिक आचरण के संबंध में सुनवाई के लिए प्रथम बार ग्रैंड जूरी के समक्ष उपस्थित हुए। उन्होंने स्वीकार किया कि व्हाइट हाउस की इंटर्न मोनिका वेल्वेंस्की के साथ उनके अवैध शारीरिक संबंध है। इसी दिन अमेरिका के नेशंस बैंक और बैंक ऑफ अमेरिका के विलय से अमेरिका के सबसे बड़े बैंक की स्थापना हुई।

1999 तुर्की में आए जोरदार भूकंप के कारण कम से कम एक हजार लोगों की जान गई।

2000 लिल पंप, प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी रैपर, संगीतज्ञ और गीतकार का जन्म हुआ।

2002 रूस ने दलाई लामा को अपने देश में दौरे के लिए वीजा देने से इन्कार किया।

2003 नास्तास्जा शुंक, प्रसिद्ध जर्मन टेनिस खिलाड़ी एवं 2003 द किड लारोई नामक प्रसिद्ध ऑस्ट्रेलियाई संगीतज्ञ, रैपर और गीतकार का जन्म हुआ।

2004 डोमिनिक गणराज्य के नये राष्ट्रपति के रूप में उदारवादी राजनीतिक लिओनल फर्नाडीस ने शपथ ग्रहण की। 2004 में इसी दिन सर्बिया की नेशनल असेंबली ने सर्वसम्मति से सर्बिया के लिए नए राज्य प्रतीकों को अपनाया। बोजे प्रावडे नया राष्ट्रगान बना और कई प्रतीक/ पहचान चिन्ह निर्धारित किए गये।

2005 वायरस जोटोब कंप्यूटर वार्म ने दुनिया भर के लाखों कंप्यूटरों पर हमला कर उन्हें नुकसान पहुंचाया। इससे सबसे ज्यादा विंडोज 2000 और विंडोज एक्सपी पीसी को प्रभावित हुए जिससे वे बार-बार बंद और रिबूट हुए। इसी दिन पूरा बांग्लादेश 2005 को बम धमाकों से दहला। 63 जिलों में लगभग 400 विस्फोट हुए।

2006 इक्वाडोर में तुंगुरहुआ सक्रिय ज्वालामुखी में विस्फोट हुआ और उसके नीचे दबी हानिकारक जलती हुई राख, लावा हवा में लगभग छह किलोमीटर तक बड़े क्षेत्र में उड़ी, फैली। काफी नुकसान हुआ और हजारों लोगों को प्रभावित इलाके से अन्यत्र स्थानांतरित किया गया।

2007 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जार्ज बुश की बेटी की सगाई रिपब्लिकन सांसद जॉन हेगर के बेटे के साथ हुई।

2008 ईरान ने एक उपग्रह का सफलतापूर्वक प्रक्षेपण किया। प्रक्षेपण ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय, खासतौर पर अमेरिका की चिंता बढ़ाई क्योंकि ईरान को हथियारों के उद्देश्यों के लिए परमाणु कार्यक्रम पर अमेरिका और उसके तमाम सहयोगी देशों को आपत्ति थी। प्रक्षेपण की सफलता ईरान के परमाणु हथियारों को लॉन्च करने की क्षमता के बारे में स्पष्ट हो गया। इसी दिन शिबु सोरेन की पार्टी झारखंड मुक्ति मोर्चा ने 23 माह पुरानी निर्दलीय मुख्यमंत्री मधुकोड़ा सरकार से समर्थन वापस लिया। इसी दिन अमेरिका के विख्यात तैराक माइकल फेल्प्स ने पेइचिंग ओलिंपिक खेलों में तैराकी में आठ स्वर्ण पदक जीतकर इतिहास बनाया।

2009 आंतरिक सुरक्षा के मसले पर देश के सभी मुख्यमंत्रियों के साथ एक दिवसीय सम्मेलन में नई दिल्ली में प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने बातचीत की। 2009 में इसी दिन रूस के खाकासिया में सयानो-शुशेंस्काया बांध पर एक दुर्घटना में 75 लोग मारे गए और पनबिजली स्टेशन बंद हो गया, जिससे स्थानीय क्षेत्र में बड़े पैमाने पर बिजली गुल हो गई।

2010 अफगानिस्तान में पुरातत्वविदों को राजधानी काबुल के दक्षिण में एक बौद्ध स्थल की प्राचीन वस्तुएँ मिलीं। इराक की राजधानी बगदाद में इसी दिन सेना के 11वीं डिवीजन के मुख्यालय के पास भर्ती के लिए जमा युवकों के बीच हुए आत्मघाती बम हमले में 60 लोग मारे गए और 125 अन्य घायल हो गए। इसी दिन बताया गया कि जून 2010 को समाप्त तिमाही में चीन (1340 अरब डॉलर), जापान (1290 अरब डॉलर) को पीछे छोड़ते हुए, विश्व की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था बन गया।

2011 रोमन कैथोलिक पादरियों पर 3 यौन उत्पीड़न मामलों में शामिल होने का आरोप लगा, इस बावत 3 मुकदमे दर्ज किए गए। इसी दिन जेपी पार्क में अनशन जारी रखने की लिखित अनुमति मिलने तक अन्ना हजारे ने 2011 में रिहाई के बावजूद तिहाड़ में ही रहकर अनशन जारी रखा।

2012 नील मार्चिंग्टन, एक शेरिफ, शौकिया जीवविज्ञानी और स्थानीय गुफा खोजकर्ता को एक दुर्लभ मकड़ी 2010 में मिली, इसे पूरी तरह से अलग श्रेणी में माना गया। इस एकल प्रजाति का नाम ट्रोग्लोरपोरटर्मिंग्टोनी रखा गया।

2014 पिकेटर्स ने लाइबेरिया की राजधानी मोनरोविया में एक इबोला संगरोध केंद्र पर हमला किया यहां से 17 मरीज भाग निकले और चिकित्सा उपकरण सहित काफी कुछ चुरा ले गये। बोर्रे नुडसन, नॉर्वेजियन मंत्री और राजनैतिक कार्यकर्ता, वोल्फगैंग लियोनहार्ड, प्रसिद्ध जर्मन इतिहासकार और लेखक, सोफी मास्लोफ, अमेरिकी सिविल सर्वेंट और राजनीतिज्ञ, पिट्सबर्ग की 56वीं मेयर, मियोड्रैग पावलोविक, प्रसिद्ध सर्बियाई कवि और आलोचक तथा पियरे वासिलिउ, फ्रांसीसी गायक-गीतकार का निधन हुआ।

2015 यवोन क्रेग, अमेरिकी बैले डांसर, माॅडल और अभिनेत्री, गेरहार्ड मेयर-वोरफेल्डर, बड़े जर्मन व्यवसायी एवं लास्जलो पास्काई, हंगेरियन कार्डिनल का निधन हुआ।

2016 लोकप्रिय कनाडाई अभिनेता, निर्देशक और निर्माता आर्थर हिलर का देहांत हुआ।

2017 ला रैंबला, बार्सिलोना में एक वैन पैदल चल रहे लोगों को रौंदती हुई निकली जिसमें 14 लोगों की मौत हो गई और कम से कम 100 घायल हो गए।

2019 काबुल में बम फटने से 63 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 182 घायल हो गए।
