2012 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के रस्टेनबर्ग के पास मारीकाना में हुए नरसंहार 47 लोगों की हत्या कर दी गई।

2013 विश्व शेर दिवस का पहली बार आयोजन अमेरिका में बिग कैट रेस्क्यू ने किया। यह शेरों को समर्पित दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा अभयारण्य है। इसकी सह-स्थापना डेरेक और बेवर्ली जौबर्ट ने की थी, जो पति-पत्नी थे। उन्होंने जंगल में रहने वाले शेरों की रक्षा के लिए नेशनल ज्योग्राफिक और बिग कैट इनिशिएटिव दोनों को एक ही बैनर के तहत लाने की पहल शुरू की और तब से हर साल 10 अगस्त को विश्व शेर दिवस मनाया जाने लगा। इसके तहत शेरों के महत्व और उनके संरक्षण के बातचीत और उचित प्रबंधन पर विचार-विमर्श होता है।

2014 तेहरान के मेहराबाद अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर सेपहान एयरलाइंस की उड़ान 5915 के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से चालीस लोग मारे गए।

2015 दुनियाभर में हर साल 10 अगस्त को वर्ल्ड बायो फ्यूल डे मनाया जाता है। विश्व जैविक ईंधन दिवस पर दुनियाभर में बायो फ्यूल के इस्तेमाल को बढ़ावा देने के लिए इसकी शुरुआत हुई। बायो फ्यूल यानी स्टार्च, शुगर और वेजिटेबल ऑयल के फर्मेंटेशन से बनने वाला फ्यूल। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि ये सस्ता होने के साथ ही पर्यावरण के लिए भी फायदेमंद होता है। पेट्रोलियम उत्पादों में एक निश्चित अनुपात में बायो फ्यूल मिलाया जाता है। भारत सरकार बायो फ्यूल को बढ़ावा देने के लिए अलग-अलग योजनाओं पर काम कर रही है। 2018 में सरकार ने बायोफ्यूल्स को लेकर नेशनल पॉलिसी को भी मंजूरी दी। पॉलिसी का लक्ष्य 2030 तक पेट्रोल में 20 फीसदी और डीजल में 5 फीसदी बायो फ्यूल के इस्तेमाल बढ़ाना है। सरकार ने बायो फ्यूल की कीमतों में भी बढ़ोतरी की है। इसे किसान हित में बताया गया है। 2015 में सबसे पहले पेट्रोलियम और नेचुरल गैस मंत्रालय ने इस दिवस को मनाने की शुरुआत की थी। हर साल अलग-अलग थीम पर इस दिन को मनाया जाता है। विश्व जैव ईंधन दिवस को हर साल 10 अगस्त के दिन सर रूडोल्फ डीजल की याद में मनाया जाता है। इन्होंने डीजल इंजन बनाने का काम किया था। 8 अगस्त साल 1893 को, सर डीजल ने पहली बार एक यांत्रिक इंजन चलाने के लिए मूंगफली के तेल का सफलतापूर्वक इस्तेमाल किया था। इसके साथ, इस कल्पना भी एक नई उड़ान मिली थी कि आने वाले समय में जीवाश्म ईंधन की जगह पर वनस्पति तेल का इस्तेमाल किया जा सकेगा। इस उपलब्धि की खुशी को मनाने और लोगों को जागरुक के लिए, विश्व जैव ईंधन दिवस मनाया जाता है और साल 2015 से भारतीय पेट्रोलियम और प्राकृतिक गैस मंत्रालय इसे मना रहा है। इस साल अगस्त - सितंबर में एथेनॉल, एक जैविक ईंधन से चलने वाले वाहनों की बड़ी रेंज बाजार में उतारने की घोषणा केंद्रीय परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने की थी।

2018 उद्योगपति और कारोबारी तथा बजाज इलेक्ट्रिकल्स लिमिटेड के निदेशक अंतत बजाज का निधन हुआ। एक सरकार विरोधी रैली दंगे में बदल गई जब रोमानियाई जेंडरमेरी के सदस्यों ने विक्टोरिया पैलेस के सामने विरोध प्रदर्शन कर रहे 100,000 लोगों पर हमला किया, जिससे 452 लोग घायल हो गए। अधिकारियों ने आरोप लगाया कि भीड़ में गुंडे घुस आए थे जिन्होंने कानून प्रवर्तन एजेंटों पर हमला करना शुरू कर दिया था। 2018 में इसी दिन होराइजन एयर के कर्मचारी रिचर्ड रसेल ने वाशिंगटन के सिएटल-टैकोमा अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर होराइजन एयर बॉम्बार्डियर डैश 8 क्यू400 विमान का अपचालन कर लिया और एक अनधिकृत टेकऑफ किया, विमान को दुर्घटनाग्रस्त करने से पहले एक घंटे से अधिक समय तक उड़ाया और पुगेट में केट्रॉन द्वीप पर पहाड़ी से टकराकर खुद को भी खत्म कर लिया।

2019 चीन के झेजियांग में लेकिमा तूफान के कारण बत्तीस लोग मारे गए और दस लाख लोग बेघर हुए।

2020 अमेरिका के आयोवा में डेरेचो अमेरिकी इतिहास की सबसे भयंकर तूफान आपदा बनी।

पिछले करीब दो दशकों से दुनिया भर में डेंगू का प्रकोप बढ़ गया है। हर साल डेंगू से हजारों लोग मरते हैं। करोड़ों लोगों को डेंगू बुखार से जूझना पड़ता है। डेंगू से बचाव के लिए 10 अगस्त को डेंगू के प्रति लोगों में जागरूकता फैलाने और इससे सचेत रहने के लिए विश्व डेंगू निरोधक दिवस मनाया जाता है। हालांकि 16 मई को भारत में डेंगू दिवस मनाया जाता है। उसमें भी डेंगू से बचाव के लिए लोगों को जागरूक किया जाता है और स्वास्थ्य-चिकित्सा सेवा प्रदाताओं को उचित तैयारियां करने की नसीहत दी जाती है। डेंगू एडीज इजिप्टि मच्छर के काटने से होता है।
