1540 इंग्लैंड के राजा हेनरी अष्टम ने अपने मुख्यमंत्री थॉमस क्रॉमवेल को देशद्रोह और धर्म विरोधी होने के आरोप में फांसी की सजा दी।

1586 सर थामस हेरिओट ने इंगलैंड से लौटने पर यूरोप को आलू से परिचित कराया।

1717 प्रशिया के राजा फ्रेडरिक विल्हेम प्रथम ने 5 से 12 वर्ष के बच्चों के लिए शिक्षा को अनिवार्य किया।

1741 कैप्टन बेरिंग ने माउंट सैंट एलियास, अलास्का की खोज की।

1742 प्रशिया और ऑस्ट्रिया ने शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1821 पेरू ने स्पेन से स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की।

1858 भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के अफसर सर विलियम जेम्स हर्शेल द्वारा पहचान के लिए पहली बार फिंगर प्रिंट का इस्तेमाल किया गया।

1866 अमेरिका में मापने की मीट्रिक प्रणाली को वैधानिक मान्यता मिली।

1868 अमेरिकी विदेश मंत्री विलियम एच सिवार्ड ने पूर्व दासों को नागरिकता देने के लिए संविधान में 14वें संशोधन को मंजूर करने की घोषणा की।

1907 प्रमुख दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म निर्माता एवं निर्देशक ए. वी. मय्यप्पन वास्तविक नाम अवीची मय्यप्पा चेट्टियार का जन्म हुआ।

1909 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के राजनीतिज्ञ और आंध्र प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री रहे कासू ब्रह्मानंद रेड्डी का जन्म हुआ।

1914 प्रथम विश्व युद्ध की शुरुआत हुई थी। सर्बिया में ऑस्ट्रिया के राजकुमार फ्रांसिस फर्डिनेंड की हत्या कर दी गई थी। इससे गुस्साए ऑस्ट्रिया ने हंगरी के साथ मिलकर सर्बिया पर हमला कर दिया। यहीं से शुरू हुए युद्ध ने धीरे-धीरे करीब आधी दुनिया को अपनी चपेट में ले लिया।

1914 यात्रियों से भरे जहाज एस.एस. कामागाता मारू को वेंकुवर, कनाडा से भारत भेजा गया।

1925 नोबल पुरस्कार विजेता विख्यात अमेरिकी चिकित्सक और आनुवांशिकी विशेषज्ञ हेपेटाइटिस का टीका खोजने वाले बारुक ब्लूमर्ग का जन्म हुआ। 28 जुलाई को ही विश्व हेपेटाइटिस डे मनाया जाता है। हेपेटाइटिस लिवर को प्रभावित करती है। इस बीमारी से लिवर में सूजन आ जाती है, जिससे लिवर ठीक तरह से काम नहीं कर पाता। लिवर भोजन पचाने के साथ खून में से टॉक्सिन्स भी साफ करता है। ये काम ठीक से न होने पर लिवर कैंसर होने का भी खतरा होता है। ये बीमारी पांच अलग-अलग वायरस की वजह से होती है। इसी आधार पर हेपेटाइटिस को भी ए, बी, सी, डी और ई कैटेगरी में बांटा गया है। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन का कहना है कि दुनियाभर के करीब 35 करोड़ लोग इस बीमारी से संक्रमित हैं। भारत में भी करीब 4 करोड़ लोग हेपेटाइटिस बी वायरस का शिकार हैं। इस बीमारी की गंभीरता को देखते हुए लोगों को जागरूक करने के उद्देश्य से 2010 से हर साल 28 जुलाई को वर्ल्ड हेपेटाइटिस डे मनाया जाता है।

1927 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के नेता और उड़ीसा, आंध्र प्रदेश, कर्नाटक तथा मध्य प्रदेश के राज्यपाल हुए रामेश्वर ठाकुर का जन्म हुआ।

1928 नीदरलैंड के एम्सटर्डम में नौवें ओलंपिक खेल का शुभारंभ हुआ।

1929 जैकलीन ली कैनेडी ओनासिस का जन्म साउथैंपटन, न्यू यार्क, अमेरिका में हुआ। वे जानी मानी अमेरिकी सोशलाइट, लेखिका, फोटोग्राफर और पुस्तक संपादक थीं। जैकलीन ने पहले पति अरिसटोटल ओनासिस से तलाक के बाद राष्ट्रपति जॉन एफ कैनेडी से विवाह किया और 1961 से 1963 तक राष्ट्रपति जॉन एफ कैनेडी की पत्नी अमेरिका की प्रथम महिला रहीं।

1932 साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले प्रसिद्ध असमिया साहित्यकार, कवि और गीतकार हीरेन भट्टाचार्य का जन्म जोरहाट, असम में हुआ।

1935 प्रमुख उपभोक्ता उत्पाद कंपनी हिंदुस्तान लीवर के मुखिया डाॅ. अशोक शेखर गांगुली का जन्म पटना, बिहार में हुआ।

1938 बंगाली सिनेमा के प्रमुख अभिनेता, निर्माता, निर्देशक एवं पटकथा लेखक सुखेन दास का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1949 बाॅलीवुड सिनेमा के जाने माने चरित्र अभिनेता, लेखक और अभिनय प्रशिक्षक किशोर नमित कपूर का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1955 भारत के जाने माने कारोबारी और दवा निर्माता कंपनी मैनकाइंड फार्मा लि. के प्रमुख रमेश चंद जुनेजा का जन्म मेरठ, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1957 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवि, लेखक और रूसी तथा अंग्रेजी भाषाओं के साहित्य अनुवादक अनिल जनविजय का जन्म हुआ।

1858 हैदराबाद हाईकोर्ट के कार्यवाहक मुख्य न्यायाधीश और उत्तराखंड हाईकोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे न्यायमूर्ति रमेश रंगनाथन का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1959 ब्रिटेन में डाक कोड का प्रयोग शुरु हुआ।

1964 चंद्रमा की ओर रेंजर 7 का प्रक्षेपण किया गया। रेंजर ने चंद्रमा की 4308 तस्वीरें भेजीं।

1972 चीन की नवजनवादी क्रांति और नेता माओ त्से तुंग से प्रभावित, तेभागा किसान आंदोलन के प्रणेता, नक्सलवाड़ी आंदोलन के जनक, समाजवादी वामपंथी क्रांतिकारी नेता चारू मजूमदार का निधन हुआ।

1972 बाॅलीवुड की जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल आयशा जुल्का का जन्म श्रीनगर, जम्मू कश्मीर में हुआ।

1976 चीन के तांगशान इलाके में भीषण भूकंप आया जिससे करीब ढाई लाख लोग मारे गए।

1979 देश में बनी पहली गैरकांग्रेसी सरकार जनता पार्टी की बनी। इसके प्रधानमंत्री मोरारजी देसाई हुए। गठबंधन में आपसी कलह के बाद 29 जुलाई 1979 को चौधरी चरण सिंह देश के पांचवें प्रधानमंत्री बने। यह केवल 6 माह प्रधानमंत्री रहे।

1983 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने वाणिज्यिक संचार उपग्रह टेल्सटार-3ए का प्रक्षेपण किया। 1983 में इसी दिन भारतीय कलाकार, चित्रकार और उद्यमी सुविज्ञ शर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1986 जानी मानी बोल्ड, खूबसूरत बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हुमा कुरैशी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन बंबई में जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, यूट्यूबर शेरेजादे श्राफ का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन हिंदी सहित दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं की फिल्मों के अभिनेता, निर्माता और गायक दुलकुर सलमान का जन्म कोच्चि में हुआ।

1989 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल जसमिन अवासिया का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1992 प्रसिद्ध रूसी लेखक लियो टॉलस्टॉय का कथन है कि खुशी की पहली शर्तों में से एक यह है कि मनुष्य और प्रकृति के बीच की कड़ी को नहीं तोड़ा जाना चाहिए। ब्राजील के महानगर रियो द जेनेरियो में विश्व के 174 देशों का पृथ्वी सम्मेलन आयोजित किया गया था। 2002 में जोहान्सबर्ग में पृथ्वी सम्मेलन आयोजित कर विश्व के सभी देशों को पर्यावरण संरक्षण पर ध्यान देने के लिए अनेक उपाय सुझाए गये। कहा गया कि वस्तुतः प्रकृति के संरक्षण से ही धरती पर जीवन का संरक्षण हो सकता है, अन्यथा मंगल आदि ग्रहों की तरह धरती का जीवन-चक्र भी एक दिन समाप्त हो जायेगा। 28 जुलाई को प्रकृति संरक्षण दिवस मनाया जाता है। यूं तो दुनिया भर में 5 जून को पर्यावरण दिवस मनाया जाता है। लेकिन पृथ्वी पर मौजूद जीवन और सभी संपदा के संरक्षण के लिए प्रकृति संरक्षण दिवस भी महत्वपूर्ण है।

1995 वियतनाम आसियान का सदस्य बना। 1995 में इसी दिन अमेरिका ऑरेगॉन डिस्ट्रिक्ट अटार्नी की हत्या के लिए विश्व विख्यात भारतीय विचारक, दार्शनिक आचार्य रजनीश ओशो के दो अनुयायियों को दोषी ठहराया गया।

2005 इंग्लैंड से आजादी की मांग के लिए संघर्षरत आयरिश रिपब्लिकन आर्मी आईआरए ने अपने सशस्त्र संघर्ष को रोकने का ऐलान किया और लोकतांत्रिक तरीके से अपना अभियान चलाने की बात कही।

1997 ग्वाटेमाला बर्न कन्वेंशन कॉपीराइट संधि का सदस्य बना।

2001 पाकिस्तान के पूर्व विदेश मंत्री मोहम्मद सिद्दकी खान कंजू की हत्या हुई।

2004 इराक के बाकूबा शहर में एक पुलिस भर्ती केंद्र में विस्फोट से 68 लोगों की मृत्यु हुई।

2007 पाकिस्तान सरकार ने विवादास्पद लाल मस्जिद को अनिश्चितकाल तक बंद करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन सिक्किम के प्रथम मुख्यमंत्री हुए काजी लेंडुप दोरजी का निधन हुआ।

2008 निर्गुट देशों की मंत्री स्तरीय बैठक में भाग लेने के लिए भारत के विदेशमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ईरान की राजधानी तेहरान पहुंचे।

2011 सूर्य के चारों ओर पृथ्वी के समान परिक्रमा करने वाले ट्रोजन क्षुद्रग्रह की खोजकर खगोलविदों ने कहा कि यह पृथ्वी के लिए एक खतरा है क्योंकि यह गुरुत्वाकर्षण के मीठे स्थान में बैठता है।

2013 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता जगदीश राज का निधन हुआ।

2014 संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने इजरायल और हमास के बीच मानवता के आधार पर तत्काल और अनिश्चितकालीन संघर्षविराम के लिए आपात बैठक बुलायी। इसी दिन जाने माने राजनीतिज्ञ और मेघालय और अरुणाचल प्रदेश के राज्यपाल रहे मधुकर दिघे का निधन हुआ।

2016 शोषितों, वंचितों, वनवासियों और लोकतंत्रवादियों की मुखर पैरोकार प्रख्यात उपन्यासकार महाश्वेता देवी का निधन हुआ।

2017 बाॅलीवुड के जाने माने चरित्र अभिनेता इंद्र कुमार का निधन हुआ।

2018 21वीं सदी का सबसे लंबा चंद्र ग्रहण सुबह 3 बजकर 50 मिनट पर समाप्त हो गया। यह ग्रहण 27 जुलाई 2018 से रात के 11बजकर 54 मिनट से शुरू हुआ था। इसी दिन असम सरकार ने सरकारी कर्मचारियों के माता-पिता और दिव्यांग भाई-बहनों की देखभाल हेतु प्रणाम योजना 02 अक्टूबर 2018 से शुरू करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन महाराष्ट्र के पोलादपुर के पास एक बस के खाई में गिर जाने से 33 लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। इसी दिन भारत सरकार ने हैपेटाइटिस दिवस पर नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रीय वायरल हैपेटाइटिस नियंत्रण कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत की। इसी दिन मेघालय की राजधानी शिलंग में जैव-संसाधन और स्थायी विकास संस्थान का उद्घाटन किया गया। इसी दिन अमेरिकी फिल्म नगर लॉस एंजिलिस में आयोजित तीसरे लव अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म समारोह में असमी फिल्म होइखोबोते धेमाली ने सर्वश्रेष्ठ फिल्म का पुरस्कार मिला और दीपानिता शर्मा को सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री और अनुराग सैकिया को सर्वश्रेष्ठ संगीतकार का पुरस्कार दिया गया।

1540 King Henry VIII of England executes his chief minister Thomas Cromwell on charges of treason and heresy.

1586 Sir Thomas Heriot, on his return from England, introduced the potato to Europe.

1717 King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia makes education compulsory for children aged 5 to 12.

1741 Captain Bering discovered Mount Saint Elias, Alaska.

1742 Prussia and Austria signed a peace treaty.

1821 Peru declares independence from Spain.

1858 Fingerprints were first used for identification by Sir William James Herschel, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service.

1866 The metric system of measurement is legally recognized in America.

1868 US Secretary of State William H. Seward announces ratification of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution granting citizenship to former slaves.

1907 Prominent South Indian film producer and director A. V. Meiyappan real name was born Avichi Meiyappa Chettiar.

1909 Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, Indian National Congress politician and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, was born.

1914 was the beginning of the First World War. Prince Francis Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in Serbia. Enraged by this, Austria along with Hungary attacked Serbia. The war that started from here gradually engulfed almost half of the world.

1914 Passenger ship SS The Kamagata Maru was sent to India from Vancouver, Canada.

1925 Baruch Blumberg, Nobel Prize-winning American physician and geneticist who discovered a vaccine for hepatitis, was born. World Hepatitis Day is celebrated on 28 July itself. Hepatitis affects the liver. This disease causes inflammation in the liver, due to which the liver is not able to function properly. Along with digesting food, the liver also cleans toxins from the blood. If this work is not done properly, there is also a risk of liver cancer. This disease is caused by five different viruses. On this basis hepatitis is also divided into A, B, C, D and E categories. The World Health Organization says that around 350 million people around the world are infected with this disease. In India too, about 40 million people are victims of Hepatitis B virus. In view of the seriousness of this disease, World Hepatitis Day is celebrated every year on 28 July since 2010 with the aim of making people aware.

1927 Rameshwar Thakur, leader of the Indian National Congress and Governor of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, was born.

1928 The ninth Olympic Games open in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

1929 Jacqueline Lee Kennedy Onassis was born in Southampton, New York, US. She was an American socialite, author, photographer, and book editor. Jacqueline married President John F. Kennedy after divorcing her first husband, Aristotle Onassis, and served as First Lady of the United States from 1961 to 1963.

Renowned Assamese litterateur, poet and lyricist Hiren Bhattacharya, recipient of the 1932 Sahitya Akademi Award, was born in Jorhat, Assam.

1935 Head of Hindustan Lever, a major consumer products company, Dr. Ashok Shekhar Ganguly was born in Patna, Bihar.

1938 Sukhen Das, prominent actor, producer, director and screenwriter of Bengali cinema, was born in Calcutta.

1949: Kishore Namit Kapoor, well-known character actor, writer and acting coach of Bollywood cinema, was born in Delhi.

1955 Mankind Pharma Ltd., India's well-known businessman and pharmaceutical manufacturer. Ramesh Chand Juneja, chief of the RSS, was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

1957 Anil Janvijay, famous Hindi poet, writer and literary translator of Russian and English languages, was born.

1858 Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, Acting Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court and Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court, was born in Delhi.

1959: Postal codes begin to be used in Britain.

1964 Ranger 7 is launched towards the Moon. Ranger sent 4308 pictures of the Moon.

1972 Charu Mazumdar, socialist leftist revolutionary leader, father of Naxalwadi movement, influenced by China's new democratic revolution and leader Mao Tse Tung, founder of Tebhaga peasant movement, passed away.

1972 Ayesha Julka, a well-known Bollywood actress and model, was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

In 1976, there was a severe earthquake in the Tangshan region of China, which killed about two and a half million people.

1979 The first non-Congress government formed in the country was formed by the Janata Party. Its prime minister was Morarji Desai. On July 29, 1979, Chaudhary Charan Singh became the fifth Prime Minister of the country after infighting in the coalition. He was the Prime Minister only for 6 months.

1983 US space agency NASA launches commercial communication satellite Telstar-3A. On this day in 1983, Indian artist, painter and entrepreneur Suvigya Sharma was born.

1986 Huma Qureshi, well-known bold, beautiful Bollywood film actress and model, was born in Delhi. On this day, famous, beautiful, bold actress, model, YouTuber Sherezade Shroff was born in Bombay. On this day Dulquer Salmaan, actor, producer and singer of films in South Indian languages including Hindi, was born in Kochi.

1989 Jasmine Awasia, a beautiful, bold, well-known television actress and model, was born in Bombay.

1992 Famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy states that one of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature should not be broken. The Earth Summit of 174 countries of the world was held in Rio de Janeiro, the metropolis of Brazil. In 2002, by organizing the Earth Conference in Johannesburg, many measures were suggested to all the countries of the world to pay attention to environmental protection.
