1655 नीदरलैंड की राजधानी एम्सटर्डम में विश्व का सबसे बड़ा टाउनहाल खुला। एम्स्टर्डम में एम्स्टर्डम का रॉयल पैलेस (डच कोनिंकलिज्क पेलिस वैन एम्स्टर्डम या पेलिस ऑप डे डैम) नीदरलैंड के तीन महलों में से एक है जो संसद के अधिनियम द्वारा सम्राट के आदेश से निर्मित है। यह एम्स्टर्डम के केंद्र में डैम स्क्वायर के पश्चिम की ओर, युद्ध स्मारक के सामने और नीउवे केर्क के बगल में स्थित है। यह महल 17वीं शताब्दी में डच स्वर्ण युग के दौरान एक सिटी हॉल के रूप में बनाया गया था। यह इमारत राजा लुईस नेपोलियन का शाही महल और बाद में डच रॉयल हाउस।

1805 एलेक्सी चार्ल्स हेनरी क्लेरेल या कॉम्ट दे तोकवील का पेरिस में जन्म हुआ। तोकवील विख्यात फ्रांसीसी राजनयिक, राजनीतिक वैज्ञानिक, राजनीतिक दार्शनिक और इतिहासकार थे। उनकी रचनाओं अमेरिका में लोकतंत्र और द ओल्ड रिजीम एंड द रिवोल्यूशन से वैश्विक पहचान मिली।

1858 संयुक्त राष्ट्र और जापान ने हैरिस संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1876 ब्रिटिश भारत में विज्ञान संगठन की स्थापना की गई।

1883 इटली के प्रेडाप्पियो में विश्व कुख्यात, क्रूर तानाशाह हुए बेनितो मुसोलिनी का जन्म हुआ। राष्ट्रीय फासिस्ट पार्टी का नेतृत्व किया। मुसोलिनी फासीवाद के दर्शन की नींव रखने वालों में से प्रमुख व्यक्ति था। उसने जनता को बेरहमी से कुचला। उसने दूसरे विश्वयुद्ध में एक्सिस समूह में मिलकर युद्ध किया। मुसोलिनी जर्मनी के क्रूर तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर का मित्र था। भारत की वर्तमान राजनीतिक पार्टी भाजपा, और उसके मातृ संगठन का दर्शन हिटलर और मुसोलिनी के फासीवादी दर्शन से प्रेरित है।

1890 विश्व के शीर्ष चित्रकारों में एक डच (नीदरलैंड) चित्रकार विंसेंट वान गाॅग का निधन हुआ।

1891 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय समाज सुधारक, शिक्षाशास्त्री और स्वाधीनता सेनानी ईश्वर चंद्र विद्यासागर का निधन हुआ।

1899 न्यूयॉर्क में पहली मोटरसाइकिल रेस का आयोजन किया गया। इसी दिन पहले हेग कन्वेंशन अंतरराष्ट्रीय कानून में युद्ध और युद्ध अपराधों के कानूनों पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।

1904 भारत के शीर्ष उद्योगपति और कारोबारी जहांगीर रतन दादाभाई यानी जेआरडी टाटा का जन्म हुआ।

1921 जर्मनी में एडोल्फ हिटलर को नेशनल सोशलिस्ट जर्मन वर्कस पार्टी का नेता चुना गया। बाद में हिटलर तानाशाह बन गया अपनी नाजी पार्टी के अलावा उसने सभी राजनीतिक पार्टियां खत्म करवा दीं।

1922 पद्मविभूषण सम्मान प्राप्त महाराष्ट्र के जाने माने इतिहासकार, रंगकर्मी बाबासाहेब पुरंदरे यानी बलवंत मोरेश्वर पुरंदरे का जन्म हुआ।

1927 हैरी कुर्त विक्टर मुलिश का हार्लेम, नीदरलैंड में जन्म हुआ। हैरी विख्यात डच लेखक एवं साहित्यकार हुए। उन्होने 30 से अधिक उपन्यास, नाटक, निबंध, कविताएँ एवं दार्शनिक लेख लिखे। इनकी कृतियों का दुनिया भर की भाषाओं में अनुवाद हुआ। विश्व युद्ध के बाद के डच लेखन में ड्ब्ल्यू एफ हर्मन्स, गेराल्ड रिव एवं मुलिश को सम्मिलित रूप से महान तिकड़ी कहा जाता है।

1931 ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित तेलुगु भाषा के प्रख्यात कवि सी. नारायण रेड्डी का जन्म हुआ।

1937 जापानी सेना ने चीन के पीकिंग और टिनट्सीन पर कब्जा किया।

1941 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध में जर्मनी के घटक जापान ने चीन और भारत पर अधिकार करने के लिए अपने सैनिक इस क्षेत्र के दक्षिणी तट पर उतारे।

1953 जाने माने गायक, संगीतज्ञ और अभिनेता अनूप जलोटा का जन्म नैनीताल में हुआ।

1957 संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी आईएईए का गठन किया। 

1958 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति आइजनहावर ने नेशनल एयरोनॉटिक्स एंड स्पेस एक्ट पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इसके जरिए अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष संस्थान नासा यानी नैशनल एयरोनाॅटिक्स स्पेस एजेंसी को बनाया गया। इसी साल 1 अक्टूबर से नासा ने 100 मिलियन डॉलर के फंड से अपना कामकाज शुरू किया। आज नासा अंतरिक्ष अध्ययन की विश्व की अग्रणी एजेंसी है।

1969 विख्यात फिल्म अभिनेता सुनील दत्त और एवं लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री नरगिस के बेटे जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता संजय दत्त यानी संजय बलराज दत्त का जन्म हुआ।

1977 लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी व्यंजन चिकन विंग को समर्पित बफेलो शहर, न्यू यार्क ने 29 जुलाई को राष्ट्रीय चिकन विंग दिवस घोषित किया।

1979 हार्ड कौर के नाम से मशहूर, जानी मानी भारतीय रैपर और हिप होप गायिका तरन कौर ढिल्लों का जन्म कानपुर में हुआ।

1980 मॉस्को ओलंपिक में भारत ने हॉकी में स्वर्ण पदक हासिल किया।

1969 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता एवं माॅडल मनमीत सिंह का जन्म हल्द्वानी (नैनीताल) में हुआ।

1981 ब्रिटिश राजकुमार चार्ल्स और राजकुमारी डायना की शादी हुई थी। इस शाही विवाह को दुनिया भर में कई करोड़ लोगों ने टीवी पर लाइव देखा।

1987 भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गांधी और श्रीलंकाई राष्ट्रपति जेआर जयवर्धने ने जातीय मुद्दों पर भारत-श्रीलंका समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1990 मुंबई में 2013 में टेलीविजन रियलिटी शो बिग बाॅस में प्रतिभाग करने करने से अभिनय और माॅडलिंग में आई एली अवराम का जन्म स्टाॅकहोम, स्वीडन में जन्म हुआ। इनका वास्तविक नाम एलिसाबेट अवरामिडु ग्रानलुंड है।

1996 चीन ने लोपनोर में अपना 45वां भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किया। इसी दिन भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम की शीर्ष महिलाओं में से एक अरुणा आसफ अली का निधन हुआ।

2000 अमेरिका ने पैमनसेट-9 नामक संचार उपग्रह उक्रेन के राकेट की सहायता से अंतरिक्ष में प्रक्षेपित किया गया। इसी दिन भारत की सीमा भदौरिया ने अपने दांतों से 3390 किलोग्राम के विमान को खींचा।

2001 पौलैंड के प्रथम सचिव रहे एडवर्ड गिरेक का निधन हुआ।

2003 हिंदी फिल्मों के स्वर्ण युग यानी 1950, 1960 एवं 1970 के दशक की हिंदी फिल्मों के सुप्रसिद्ध हास्य अभिनेता जॉनी वॉकर यानी बदरुद्दीन जमालुद्दीन क़ाजी का निधन हुआ। उनकी अदाकारी और डाॅयलाॅग डिलीवरी ने अनेक फिल्मों को लोकप्रिय बनाया। अनेक फिल्मों में उनके हिसाब से रोल तय किये जाते थे। उन्होंने करीब 300 फिल्मों में काम किया। अपनी पसंद की शराब जाॅनी वाॅकर के नाम पर उन्हें फिल्मों में लाने वाले गुरुदत्त ने जाॅनी वाॅकर नाम दिया।

2004 डाॅ. मनमोहन सिंह ने प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में अपनी पहली विदेश यात्रा के लिए बिमस्टेक-ईसी सम्मेलन में भाग लेने हेतु बैंकॉक के लिए प्रस्थान किया।

2006 श्रीलंका के बल्लेबाज महेला जयवर्धने और कुमार संगाकारा ने 624 रनों की भागीदारी का टेस्ट क्रिकेट में विश्व रिकार्ड बनाया।

2007 वैज्ञानिकों ने यूनान की राजधानी एथेंस के एक इलाके में प्री हिस्टोरिका पीरियड के हाथी के दांत की खोज की।

2008 इस्रायल के प्रधानमंत्री एहुद ओल्मर्ट ने सीरिया के साथ चौथे दौर की शांति वार्ता के लिए अपने दो प्रतिनिधि तुर्की भेजे।

2009 जयपुर राजघराने की महारानी गायत्री देवी का निधन हुआ।

2010 पूर्वी चीन के जियांगसू प्रांत की राजधानी नॉनजिंग की एक प्लास्टिक और रसायन फैक्टरी में गैस पाइपलाइन से गैस का रिसाव होने के बाद हुए धमाके में 12 लोगों की मौत और 300 लोग घायल हुए।

2010 रूस के सेंट पीट्सबर्ग में आयोजित एक शिखर सम्मेलन में वैश्विक बाघ दिवस या इंटरनेशनल टाइगर डे मनाने की शुरुआत हुई। दुनियाभर में हर साल बाघ संरक्षण के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए 29 जुलाई को इंटरनेशनल टाइगर डे मनाया जाता है। भारत में 70 के दशक से ही बाघों को बचाने के लिए प्रयास शुरू कर दिए गए थे। देशभर में कई टाइगर रिजर्व बनाए गए नतीजतन आज दुनियाभर के 70 फीसदी बाघ भारत में पाए जाते हैं। 2019 में बाघों की गणना हुई थी जिसमें पता लगा कि पूरे देश में 2,977 बाघ हैं। बाघ या व्याघ्र जंगल में रहने वाला मांसाहारी स्तनधारी पशु है। बाघ अपनी प्रजाति में सबसे बड़ा और ताकतवर पशु है। बाघ तिब्बत, श्रीलंका और अंडमान निकोबार द्वीप-समूह को छोड़कर एशिया के अन्य सभी भागों में पाया जाता है। बाघ भारत, नेपाल, भूटान, कोरिया और इंडोनेशिया में अधिक संख्या में पाया जाता है। 2010 में इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार परिषद ने 122 देशों के समर्थन से स्वच्छ पानी को मानवाधिकार बनाने का गैरबाध्यकारी प्रस्ताव पारित किया।

2013 फ्रांस के नगर कांस के एक होटल से 10.3 करोड़ यूरो के हीरे की चोरी हो गई। इसी दिन इराक में एक कार बम हमले में 44 लोगों की मौत हो गई। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान के डेरा इस्माल खान में तालिबान के हमले के बाद 300 कैदी फरार हो गए। इसी दिन समाचार एजेंसी एपी यानी एसोसिएटेड प्रेस ने अपने सर्वेक्षण में अमेरिका की बिगड़ती आर्थिक सुरक्षा के बारे में बताया कि अमेरिका के पांच में से चार वयस्क अब संघर्ष कर रहे हैं। वे बेरोजगारी, निकट-गरीबी या कल्याण पर निर्भरता से जूझ रहे हैं।

2014 सिएरा लियोन के प्रमुख चिकित्सक डॉ. शेख उमर खान की इबोला वायरस से संक्रमण के बाद मौत हो गई।

2015 दुनिया की दिग्गज अमेरिकी आईटी कंपनी माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ने विंडोज-10 लॉन्च किया।

2017 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवयित्री स्नेहमयी चौधरी का निधन हुआ।

1148 The Second Crusade ends after a Crusader force is defeated during the Siege of Damascus.

1567 James V appointed King of Scotland.

1655 The world's largest town hall opened in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. The Royal Palace of Amsterdam (Dutch Koninklijk Palais van Amsterdam or Palais op de Dam) in Amsterdam is one of three palaces in the Netherlands built by order of the monarch by Act of Parliament. It is located in the center of Amsterdam on the west side of Dam Square, opposite the war memorial and next to the Nieuwe Kerk. The palace was built in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age as a city hall. This building was the royal palace of King Louis Napoleon and later the Dutch Royal House.

1748 The first British military force arrived in India to help the East India Company. First a British trading company East India established its dominance in India. Later the British rule occupied India.

1805 – Alexi Charles Henri Clarel or Comte de Tocqueville was born in Paris. Tocqueville was a noted French diplomat, political scientist, political philosopher and historian. His works Democracy in America and The Old Regime and the Revolution gained global recognition.

1858 United States and Japan sign Harris Treaty.

1876 Science organization was established in British India.

1883 Benito Mussolini, who became world infamous, cruel dictator, was born in Predappio, Italy. led the National Fascist Party. Mussolini was the main person who laid the foundation of the philosophy of fascism. He brutally crushed the public. He fought in the Second World War together with the Axis group. Mussolini was a friend of Adolf Hitler, the cruel dictator of Germany. India's current political party BJP, and its parent organization's philosophy is inspired by the fascist philosophy of Hitler and Mussolini.

1890 Dutch (Netherlands) painter Vincent Van Gogh, one of the world's top painters, passed away.

1891 Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, famous Indian social reformer, educationist and freedom fighter, passed away.

1899 The first motorcycle race was organized in New York. On this day the first Hague Convention on the Laws of War and War Crimes in International Law was signed.

1904 Jahangir Ratan Dadabhai i.e. JRD Tata, India's top industrialist and businessman, was born.

1905 Dag Hammarskjöld, second Secretary-General of the United Nations, was born.

1911 Calcutta's football club Mohun Bagan won the IF Shield for the first time.

1914 The world's first transcontinental telephone service line opened in America.

In 1921, Adolf Hitler was elected leader of the National Socialist German Workers' Party in Germany. Later, Hitler became a dictator, apart from his Nazi party, he abolished all political parties.

1922 Babasaheb Purandare, aka Balwant Moreshwar Purandare, renowned historian of Maharashtra, recipient of Padma Vibhushan award, was born.

1927 Harry Kurt Victor Mulisch was born in Haarlem, Netherlands. Harry became a famous Dutch writer and litterateur. He wrote more than 30 novels, plays, essays, poems and philosophical articles. His works were translated into languages around the world. In post-World War I Dutch writing, WF Hermans, Gerald Rive and Mulisch are collectively referred to as the Great Triumvirate.

1931 Jnanpith awardee C. Narayana Reddy, noted Telugu language poet, was born.

1937 Japanese forces capture Peking and Tientsin, China.

1941 In World War II, Germany's constituent Japan landed troops on the southern coast of the region to occupy China and India.

1953 Anoop Jalota, noted singer, musician and actor, was born in Nainital.

In 1957, the United Nations formed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

1958 US President Eisenhower signs the National Aeronautics and Space Act. Through this, the American Space Institute NASA i.e. National Aeronautics Space Agency was created. From October 1 this year, NASA started its operations with a fund of $ 100 million. Today NASA is the world's leading agency for space studies.

1969 Noted film actor Sanjay Dutt, son of noted film actor Sunil Dutt and popular actress Nargis, was born (Sanjay Balraj Dutt).

1977 The city of Buffalo, New York declares July 29 as National Chicken Wing Day, dedicated to the popular American dish chicken wing.

1979 Taran Kaur Dhillon, famous Indian rapper and hip hop singer, better known as Hard Kaur, was born in Kanpur.

India won the gold medal in hockey at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

1969: Noted film actor and model Manmeet Singh was born in Haldwani (Nainital).

1981 British Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married. Millions of people around the world watched this royal wedding live on TV.

1987 Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Sri Lankan President JR Jayawardene sign the India-Sri Lanka Accord on Ethnic Issues.

Elli Avram, born in Stockholm, Sweden, came into acting and modeling in 1990 in Mumbai after participating in the television reality show Bigg Boss in 2013. Her real name is Elisabeth Avramidu Granlund.

1996 China conducted its 45th underground nuclear test at Lopanor. On this day Aruna Asaf Ali, one of the top women of the Indian freedom struggle, passed away.

2000 America launched a communication satellite named Palmsat-9 into space with the help of a Ukrainian rocket. On the same day, Seema Bhadauria of India pulled a 3390 kg plane with her teeth.

2001 Edward Gierek, first secretary of Poland, passed away.

2003 Johnny Walker i.e. Badruddin Jamaluddin Qazi, the famous comedian of Hindi films of the golden era of Hindi films i.e. 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, passed away. His acting and dialogue delivery made many films popular. In many films, roles were decided according to him. He acted in about 300 films. Guru Dutt, who brought him in films named after his favorite liquor Johnny Walker, named him Johnny Walker.

2004 dr. Manmohan Singh left for Bangkok to attend the BIMSTEC-EC Summit in his first foreign trip as Prime Minister.

2006 Sri Lankan batsmen Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara set a world record partnership of 624 runs in Test cricket.
