केंद्रीय मेसेडोनिया (यूनान) के पेला नामक गांव में ईसा पूर्व 356 में 20 जुलाई को विश्व विजेता सिकंदर महान यानी एलेक्जेंडर दि ग्रेट और एलेक्जेंडर तृतीय का जन्म हुआ माना जाता है। यह मेसेडोनिया के शासक फिलिप द्वितीय के पुत्र थे।

1031 हेनरी प्रथम ने स्पेन के राजा के रूप में पदभार संभाला। हेनरी प्रथम रॉबर्ट द्वितीय के उत्तराधिकारी थे।

1296 अलाउद्दीन खिलजी ने स्वयं को दिल्ली का सुल्तान घोषित कर तख्त-ओ-ताज संभाला। उसने अफगानिस्तान से उत्तर मध्य भारत तक बड़ा साम्राज्य कायम किया।

1654 ब्रिटेन और पुर्तगाल के मध्य हुई एक संधि के बाद पुर्तगाल इंग्लैंड के अधीन हुआ।

1761 माधव राव प्रथम पेशवा बने।

1810 बोगोटा न्यू ग्रेनेडा (जिसका नाम अब कोलंबिया है) के नागरिकों ने खुद को स्पेन से अलग कर स्वतंत्र घोषित किया।

1811 लॉर्ड कैनिंग के बाद भारत के वायसराय बने लॉर्ड एलगिन प्रथम यानी जेम्स ब्रूस आठवें अर्ल आफ एलगिन का जन्म लंदन में हुआ।

1847 प्रसिद्ध जर्मन खगोलशास्त्री थियोडोर ने धूमकेतु ब्रोरसेन.मेटकॉफ की खोज की।

1866 प्रख्यात जर्मन गणितज्ञ बरनार्ड रीमैन का टीबी के रोग से निधन हुआ।

1903 फोर्ड मोटर कंपनी ने अपनी पहली कार बाजार में उतारी।

1905 अंग्रेज वायसराय लॉर्ड कर्जन ने बंगाल के विभाजन की घोषणा की।

1914 प्रसिद्ध आधुनिक हिंदी साहित्यकार बालकृष्ण भट्ट का निधन हुआ।

1919 माउंट एवरेस्ट सबसे पहले जीतने वाले सर एडमंड हिलेरी का जन्म हुआ।

1920 जम्मू और कश्मीर के आठवें मुख्यमंत्री गुलाम मोहम्मद शाह का जन्म हुआ। 1920 में इसी दिन संत रामकृष्ण परमहंस की पत्नी शारदा देवी का निधन हुआ।

1921 प्रसिद्ध शास्त्रीय संगीतकार तथा तबला वादक सामता प्रसाद का जन्म वाराणसी में हुआ।

1923 उत्तरी मैक्सिको के राज्य चिहुहुआ के क्रांतिकारी पंचो विला की हत्या कर दी गई।

1924 सोवियत खेल समाचार पत्र सोवत्सकी स्पोर्ट की स्थापना हुई।

1929 हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध अभिनेता राजेंद्र कुमार का जन्म हुआ। 60 के दशक में उन्होंने काफी नाम कमाया और कई बार ऐसा भी हुआ कि उनकी कई-कई फिल्में एक साथ सिल्वर जुबली हफ्ते में होती थीं। इसी कारण से उनका नाम जुबली कुमार पड़ गया।

1933 लंदन में यहूदी विरोधी भावना के खिलाफ पांच लाख लोगों ने रैली निकाली।

1937 रेडियो के अविष्कारक गुग्लेलिमो मारकोनी का 63 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हुआ।

1938 जापान के नाम वापिस लेने के बाद फिनलैंड को 1940 में ओलंपिक खेलों की मेजबानी सौंपी गई।

1944 अमेरिका ने जापान के कब्जे वाले गुआम पर हमला किया।

1950 प्रसिद्ध रंगमंच कलाकार और फिल्म अभिनेता नसीरुद्दीन शाह का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के बाराबंकी में हुआ।

1951 जार्डन के शाह अब्दुल्ला प्रथम यरुशलम में उन पर हुए हमले में मारे गये।

1955 सुप्रीम कोर्ट की चर्चित जज रहीं आर भानुमति का जन्म हुआ।

1956 फ्रांस ने ट्यूनिशिया को स्वतंत्र देश घोषित किया।

1960 सिलॉन (जो अब श्रीलंका है) की राष्ट्रपति सिरीमाओ भंडारनायके विश्व की प्रथम महिला राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुई। इसी दिन भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेता सुदेश बेरी का जन्म हुआ।

1963 सत्रह अफ्रीकी देशों और मैडागास्कर ने यूरोपियन परिषद के साथ शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1965 भारत के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी बटुकेश्वर दत्त का निधन हुआ।

1966 भारत की पहली महिला न्यायाधीश अन्ना चांडी का निधन हुआ।

1969 अरुणाचल प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री हुए कलिखो पुल का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1969 में मानव ने चंद्रमा की सतह पर पहला कदम रखा था जब अंतरिक्ष यात्री नील आर्मस्ट्रांग चंद्रमा पर पहुंचे।

1972 प्रसिद्ध पार्श्वगायिका गीता दत्त का निधन हुआ।

1973 विश्व प्रसिद्ध जीट क्वींडो मार्शल आर्ट आंदोलन संस्थापक और अभिनेता, निर्देशक, विचारक और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता ब्रूस ली का निधन हुआ।

1974 तुर्की के हजारों सैनिकों ने यूनान की राजधानी एथेंस में चल रही बातचीत के विफल रहने पर उत्तरी साइप्रस पर हमला कर दिया।

1976 जाने माने क्रिकेटर देवाशीष मोहंती का जन्म भुवनेश्वर, उड़ीसा में हुआ।

1977 सूचना की स्वतंत्रता अधिनियम के अंतर्गत अमेरिकी जाँच संस्था सीआईए द्वारा जारी किए गए दस्तावेज में स्वीकार किया गया की मस्तिष्क नियंत्रण संबंधी प्रयोग किय गये हैं।

1978 भारतीय संविधान निर्माण में सहयोगी दक्षिणानी वेलायुधन का निधन हुआ।

1979 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता और कांग्रेस नेता राज बब्बर की बेटी फिल्म अभिनेत्री जुही बब्बर का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ।

1980 भरतनाट्यम और ओडिसी नृत्यांगना, फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल ग्रेसी सिंह का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1982 भारतीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन की ब्रिटिश समर्थक और महात्मा गांधी की सहयोगी मेडेलिन स्लैट पीवी यानी मीरा बेन या मीराबहन का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता के लिए संघर्षरत आयरिश रिपब्लिकन आर्मी ने लंदन के हाइड और रीजेंट पार्कों में बम विस्फोट किये जिससे 50 से अधिक लोग मारे गये और सैकड़ों घायल हुए।

1989 माउंट एवरेस्ट फतह करने वाली पहली भारतीय विकलांग अरूणिमा सिन्हा का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन बर्मा की सेना समर्थित सरकार ने विपक्षी नेता आंग सांग सूकी को उनके घर में नजरबंद किया। वे पिछले 20 वर्षों में लगभग 14 वर्ष गृह कैद रही हैं। 2023 में भी वे कैद में हैं। उन पर अंतरराष्ट्रीय अपराध न्यायालय में भी मुकदमा चल रहा है।

1990 जानी मानी दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल साक्षी अग्रवाल का जन्म अल्मोड़ा, उत्तराखंड में हुआ। 1990 में इसी दिन प्रमुख दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल निकेशा पटेल का जन्म बर्मिंघम, इंग्लैंड में हुआ।

1993 गुजरात के युवा राजनेता, पहले कांग्रेस और अब भाजपा में, हार्दिक पटेल का जन्म हुआ।

1997 तीस्ता नदी के जल बंटवारे पर भारत.और बांग्लादेश में समझौता हुआ।

1998 तालिबान सरकार के हुक्म के बाद केयर इंटरनेशनल और मेडिसिंस सेंस फ्रंटियर्स के 250 सहायताकर्मियों ने अफगानिस्तान छोड़ा।

1999 भारत के अंतरिक्ष वैज्ञानिक यू.आर. राव यूनिस्पेस-3 अंतरिक्ष सम्मेलन के अध्यक्ष निर्वाचित हुए और इसी दिन स्पेन में प्रथम बौद्ध स्तूप का उद्घाटन हुआ।

2000 जिम्बाब्वे की संसद ने अपना नया सत्र शुरू किया जिसमें एक दशक में पहली बार विपक्ष को बैठने की अनुमति मिली।

2001 लंदन स्टॉक एक्सचेंज सार्वजनिक किया गया।

2002 उत्तर व दक्षिण कोरिया ने आपस में वायुयान सेवा की शुरुआत की।

2005 कनाडा में समलैंगिक विवाह को कानूनी स्वीकृति दी गयी और वह ऐसा करने वाला चौथा देश बना।

2007 पाकिस्तान के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ सरकार द्वारा बर्खास्त मुख्य न्यायाधीश इफ्तिखार चौधरी को पद पर पुनर्बहाली का निर्णय दिया।

2008 अमेरिकी विदेशमंत्री कोंडलिजा राइस ने भारतीय अमेरिकी डॉक्टर जयंत पाटिल के प्रत्यर्पण को मंजूरी दी।

2010 अमेरिकी विदेश सचिव विलियम हेग ने घोषणा की कि ब्रिटिश सैनिकों को 2014 तक अफगानिस्तान से बाहर होना चाहिए।

2011 हेंड्रा वायरस के प्रकोप के बाद, मलेशिया ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया से घोड़ों के आयात पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया।

2011 गिन्नी में सैनिकों सहित 80 लोग गिरफ्तार किये गये, इन पर राष्ट्रपति अल्फा कोनडे की हत्या का प्रयास करने का आरोप था।

2012 मेक्सिको के नयारित में एक बस दुर्घटना में 21 लोग मारे गये और 29 घायल हो गये।

2014 अमेरिक ने कहा कि प्रमाण हैं कि मलेशियाई एयरलाइंस के यात्री विमान एमएच17 पर रूस निर्मित मिसाइल दागी गई थी, हमले में विमान में सवार सभी 298 लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2016 अयोध्या.बाबरी मस्जिद भूमि विवाद के मुख्य पैरोकार हाशिम अंसारी का निधन हुआ।

2017 भाजपा नेता राम नाथ कोविंद भारत के 14वें राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए।

2019 दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री और केरल की राज्यपाल रहीं शीला दीक्षित का निधन हुआ।

2020 पहला विश्व शतरंज दिवस किया गया। 12 दिसंबर 2019 को घोषणा संयुक्त महासभा ने 1924 में पेरिस में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय शतरंज महासंघ की स्थापना की तारीख को चिह्नित करने के लिए 20 जुलाई को विश्व शतरंज दिवस के रूप में घोषित किया।

2022 पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय चंद्रमा दिवस आयोजित किया गया। इसकी घोषणा संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने 9 दिसंबर 2021 को की थी।

1966 Anna Chandy, India's first woman judge, passed away.

1982 Madeleine Slat PV i.e. Meera Ben or Mirabehan, British supporter of the Indian independence movement and associate of Mahatma Gandhi, passed away. On the same day, the Irish Republican Army, fighting for independence from Britain, detonated bombs in London's Hyde and Regent's Parks, killing more than 50 people and injuring hundreds.

1989 Arunima Sinha, the first Indian amputee to scale Mount Everest, was born. On the same day, Burma's military-backed government placed opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest. She has been under house arrest for almost 14 years in the last 20 years. He is still in prison in 2023. He is also facing trial in the International Criminal Court.

1990 Sakshi Agarwal, noted South Indian film actress and model, was born in Almora, Uttarakhand. On this day in 1990, prominent South Indian film actress and model Nikesha Patel was born in Birmingham, England.
