1899 नोबल पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले विश्व विख्यात अमेरिकी कथाकार अर्नेस्ट हेमिंग्वे का जन्म ओक पार्क, इलिनोइस में जन्म हुआ।

1904 तेरह साल तक चले निर्माण कार्य के बाद रूस में सबसे लंबी 4607 किलोमीटर ट्रांस साइबेरियन रेलवे लाइन का काम पूरा हुआ।

1906 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के पहले भारतीय अध्यक्ष व्योमेश चन्द्र बनर्जी का निधन हुआ। कांग्रेस की स्थापना एक ब्रिटिश अधिकारी एओ ह्यूम की अगुवाई में दादाभाई नौरोजी, और दिनशा एडुल्जी वाचा द्वारा हुई।

1911 ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार सम्मानित प्रसिद्ध गुजराती साहित्यकार उमाशंकर जोशी का जन्म हुआ।

1930 हिंदी फिल्मों के मशहूर गीतकार आनंद बख्शी का जन्म ब्रिटिश शासित पंजाब प्रांत के रावलपिंडी में हुआ। उन्होंने 365 फिल्मों के लिए करीब 300 गीत लिखे, जिन्हें 96 संगीतकारों ने संगीतबद्ध किया।

1940 सोवियत संघ ने एस्टोनिया लातविया और लिथुआनिया पर कब्जा किया। इसी दिन गुजरात के बारहवें मुख्यमंत्री हुए शंकरसिंह वाघेला का जन्म हुआ।

1942 भारत की सबसे पुरानी राजनीतिक पार्टी और वर्तमान में मुख्य विपक्षी पार्टी भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के वर्तमान में अध्यक्ष, राज्य सभा सदस्य और पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे का जन्म कर्नाटक के बीदर जिले के वरावत्ती, भालकी तालुक में एक दलित परिवार में हुआ था।

1960 विख्यात पंजाबी गीतकार, गायक और संगीतकार अमर सिंह चमकीला का जन्म डुगरी, लुधियाना में हुआ। इस मशहूर गीतकार की पत्नी और उनके म्यूजिक बैंड के सदस्यों सहित 8 मार्च 1988 को हत्या कर दी गई।

1962 भारत चीन के बीच सीमा पर युद्ध हुआ।

1963 उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी स्थित काशी विद्यापीठ को विश्वविद्यालय का दर्जा दिया गया। जाने माने थिएटर कलाकार, फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता आदित्य श्रीवास्तव का जन्म इसी दिन इलाहाबाद में हुआ।

1972 भूटान के तीसरे राजा जिग्मे दोरजी वांग्चुक का निधन हुआ।

1973 दुनिया की कुख्यात इजराइली जासूसी एजेंसी मोसाद एजेंटों ने मोरक्को के एक वेटर लिलीहैमर की नॉर्वे में हत्या कर दी। जिनके बारे में उनका मानना था कि वह 1972 के ओलंपिक हत्याकांड में शामिल था। मोसाद की यह एक भारी भूल थी।

1978 अन्नी के नाम से सुपरिचित लोकप्रिय मलयालम फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री चित्रा शाजी कैलास का जन्म हुआ।

1995 हिंदी सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार सज्जाद हुसैन का निधन हुआ।

2001 प्रसिद्ध तमिल फिल्म अभिनेता शिवाजी गणेशन का निधन हुआ।

2004 संयुक्त राष्ट्र आम सभा ने भारी बहुमत से पश्चिमी किनारे के फिलिस्तीनी क्षेत्रों से इस्रायल को बाढ़ हटाने का प्रस्ताव पारित किया।
