1698 ब्रिटेन के थॉमस सेवरी को पहले व्यवसायिक स्टीम इंजन का पेटेंट मिला।

1757 बंगाल के अंतिम नवाब सिराज उद्दौला की उनकी शरण में रह रहे एक व्यक्ति मोहम्मद बेग ने निर्मम हत्या की।

1777 अमेरिका के वोरमोंट शहर में दास प्रथा खत्म हुई। पहले दुनिया भर में आदमी, औरतें और बच्चे भी जानवरों की तरह खरीदे, बेचे जाते थे और उनका जमकर शोषण, उत्पीड़न होता था।

1843 होमियोपैथी का अविष्कार करने वाले जर्मन चिकित्सा विज्ञानी क्रिस्टियन फ्रेडरिच सेमुएल हैनिमैन का फ्रांस की राजधानी पेरिस में निधन हुआ।

1897 इटली के महान आविष्कारक, वैज्ञानिक गुलेलिमो मार्कोनी ने लंदन में रेडियो का पैटेंट कराया।

1916 ब्रिटिश शासित भारत में भारतीय भूवैज्ञानिक सर्वेक्षण की स्थापना हुई।

1917 पूर्वी सेंट लुइस, इलिनोइस, अमेरिका यूरोपीय अंग्रेजों ने अश्वेत मूल निवासियों की हत्या की और उनकी बस्ती में आग लगा दी।

1930 विख्यात मलयालम साहित्यकार, कार्टूनिस्ट साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त ओट्टुपुलक्कल वेलुक्कुटी विजयन यानी ओ. वी. विजयन का जन्म पलक्कड़ में हुआ।

1934 प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी असित भट्टाचार्य का निधन हुआ।

1940 ब्रिटेन पर हमले का आदेश देते हुए हिटलर ने ऑपरेशन सी लायन की शुरुआत की। इसी दिन ब्रिटिश सरकार ने सुभाषचंद्र बोस को विद्रोह भड़काने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया।

1941 जर्मनी के लेंबर्ग में एडोल्फ हिटलर की नाजी सरकार ने नरसंहार में करीब 7000 लोग मार डाले। इसी दिन हिंदी एवं मराठी फिल्मों की जानी मानी अभिनेत्री, थिएटर कलाकार आशालता वाबगांवकर का जन्म गोवा में हुआ। 

1948 हिंदी के प्रसिद्ध जनकवि आलोक धन्वा का जन्म हुआ।

1949 अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर वियतनाम को मान्यता मिली।

1950 प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी तथा समाज सुधारक यूसुफ मेहरअली का निधन हुआ।

1954 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फिल्म पार्श्व गीत गायक मोहम्मद अजीज का जन्म हुआ।

1956 तेरहवीं और पंद्रहवीं लोकसभा के सदस्य हुए तूफानी सरोज का जन्म हुआ।

1958 जाने माने भारतीय अंतरिक्ष वैज्ञानिक, इसरो में उपग्रह केंद्र के निदेशक एम अन्नदुरई का जन्म कोठावडी में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता पवन मल्होत्रा का जन्म पानीपत, हरियाणा में हुआ।

1961 विश्व विख्यात अमेरिकी कथाकार, उपन्यासकार, नोबल साहित्य पुरस्कार प्राप्त अर्नेस्ट हेमिंग्वे का निधन हुआ।

1962 सैम वाल्टन ने अरकंसास के रोजर्स में अपना पहला वॉलमार्ट स्टोर खोला।

1965 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध अभिनेता कृष्ण भगवान का जन्म काइकावोलू आंध्र प्रदेश में हुआ।

1966 फ्रांस ने मुरूरोआ, प्रशांत महासागर में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1968 जानी मानी दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, टेलीविजन शो प्रस्तोता और कास्ट्यूम डिजायनर गौतमी तादीमल्ला का जन्म श्रीकाकुलम में हुआ।

1970 जानी मानी मलयालम फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल निशा सारंग का जन्म एर्नाकुलम में हुआ।

1972 प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी और पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जुल्फिकार अली भुट्टो ने शिमला समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1976 साम्यवादी उत्तरी वियतनाम ने समाजवादी वियतनाम गणराज्य के साथ जुड़ने की घोषणा की।

1979 एक महिला सुसान बी एंथनी के सम्मान में पहला अमेरिकी डॉलर का सिक्का जारी किया गया।

1981 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड माॅडल और बिग बाॅस प्रतिभागी, अनेक शो में काम कर चुकी अनुपमा वर्मा का जन्म नई दिल्ली में हुआ।

1982 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा के मशहूर कोरियोग्राफर जाॅनी मास्टर का जन्म नेल्लोर में हुआ।

1983 अर्जुन अवार्ड प्राप्त जाने माने भारतीय बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी सुहास ललिनाकेरे यथिराज का जन्म हासन, कर्नाटक में हुआ। इसी दिन स्वदेश निर्मित परमाणु बिजली केंद्र की पहली इकाई ने मद्रास के निकट कलपक्कम में काम करना शुरू किया।

1985 विदेश मंत्री आंद्रेई ग्रोमिको को सोवियत संघ के राष्ट्रपति कोस्तांतिन चेरनेन्को की मौत के बाद राष्ट्रपति नियुक्त किया गया।

1990 सउदी अरब में मक्का से मीना की ओर जाने वाली सुरंग में भगदड़ मचने से 1,426 हज यात्रियों की मौत हो गई।

1991 जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल केतकी कदम का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1993 तेल एवं प्राकृतिक गैस आयोग ओएनजीसी को अध्यादेश के जरिए कॉरपोरेशन में बदला गया।

1994 इंटरनेशनल स्पोर्ट्स प्रेस एसोसिएशन ने अपने काम के प्रति दुनिया का ध्यान आकर्षित करने हेतु खेल पत्रकारों को समर्पित एक वैश्विक दिवस विश्व खेल पत्रकार दिवस का आयोजन अपने संगठन की स्थापना की सत्तरवीं वर्षगांठ पर किया। संगठन की स्थापना ओलंपिक खेलों के दौरान 2 जुलाई 1924 को हुई थी।

1995 न्यू जीलैंड की लोकप्रिय गायिका, बाॅलीवुड नेक्सट बिग सिंगिंग सेंसेशन शर्ली सेतिया का जन्म दमन में हुआ। इसी दिन जीडेन के नाम से मशहूर डीजे, संगीतज्ञ और संगीत रिकाॅर्ड कारोबारी सुनील शर्मा का जन्म गुड़गांव में हुआ।

1999 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल ऋचा मुखर्जी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

2001 फास्ट एंड फ्यूरियस सीरिज की पहली फिल्म रिलीज हुई। 2001 में इसी दिन पहली बार वर्ल्ड यूएफओ डे मनाया गया। यूएफओ पर एक अमेरिकन शोधकर्ता हकतन अकडोगन ने इसका आयोजन किया। इस दिन लोग कथित दूसरे ग्रहों से आने वाली वस्तुओं के बारे में चर्चा करते हैं। एलियन और अज्ञात ग्रहों से आने वाले यानों के बारे में अक्सर कहा-सुना जाता है लेकिन आज तक वैज्ञानिकों को इसके प्रमाण नहीं मिले हैं।

2002 पूरे भारत में हेपेटाइटिस सी की जांच को अनिवार्य कर दिया गया। इसी दिन स्टीव फोसेट गुब्बारे के जरिए दुनिया का भ्रमण करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बने।

2004 भारत और पाकिस्तान के विदेश मंत्रियों ने जकार्ता में आपसी बातचीत की।

2006 इंग्लैंड फुटबाल टीम के कप्तान डेविड बेखम ने अपना पद छोड़ा।

2010 कांगो में टैंकर ट्रक विस्फोट में 230 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2015 फिलीपींस में 220 यात्रियों से भरी नौका डूबने से 62 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2020 भारतीय रेलवे ने 2.8 किलोमीटर लंबी ट्रेन चलाई, जो भारतीय रेल के इतिहास में अब तक की सबसे लंबी ट्रेन है। इस ट्रेन को नाम शेषनाग दिया गया।
