927 इंग्लैंड के राजा एथेलस्टन ने स्कॉटलैंड के कॉन्स्टेंटाइन द्वितीय से प्रतिज्ञा करवाई कि वह वाइकिंग राजाओं के साथ सहयोग नहीं करेगा, जिससे ग्रेट ब्रिटेन को एकजुट करने की प्रक्रिया शुरू हुई। अधिकांश इतिहासकार इसे इंग्लैंड की स्थापना तिथि के सबसे करीब मानते हैं।

1909 दो बीघा जमीन जैसी अनेक हिंदी नायाब फिल्में भारत को देने वाले विख्यात फिल्म निर्देशक बिमल राय का जन्म हुआ।

1906 करीब 300 किलोमीटर दूर टेलीग्राफ मैसेज भेजा गया था। तस्मानिया के गवर्नर गेराल्ड स्ट्रीकलैंड ने विक्टोरिया के गवर्नर नॉर्थकोट तक मोर्स कोड के जरिए मैसेज भेजा था। दक्षिणी गोलार्ध में मार्कोनी के बनाए टेलीग्राफ यंत्र के जरिए इतनी दूरी तक भेजा जाने वाला ये पहला मैसेज था। यह उस समय इतना बड़ा कारनामा था कि जब मैसेज विक्टोरिया पहुंचा तो वहां धूमधाम से जश्न मनाया गया। दिनभर दुकानें बंद रही और लोग सड़कों पर जमकर नाचे।

1912 क्वीन एलिजाबेथ अमेरिका में प्रदर्शित होने वाली पहली विदेशी फिल्म बनी।

1918 टोकायाम की खाड़ी में जापानी युद्धपोत में विस्फोट हुआ. जिसमें 500 लोगों की मौत हुई.

1949 भारत सरकार ने कुछ शर्तों के साथ राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ आरएसएस पर लगा प्रतिबंध हटा दिया। महात्मा गांधी की 30 जनवरी 1948 को विनायक दामोदर सावरकर के शिष्य नाथूराम गोडसे ने हत्या कर दी थी। नाथूराम गोडसे आरएसएस यानी राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का सदस्य रहा था। गांधी जी की हत्या के बाद आरएसएस प्रमुख गोलवलकर को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। हालांकि माना जाता है कि गोडसे को गांधी की हत्या करने के लिए सावरकर ने तैयार किया लेकिन इसके पक्ष में कोई प्रमाण नहीं मिला। 4 फरवरी 1948 को आरएसएस पर बैन लगा दिया गया। आरएसएस ने अपने घोषित आदर्शों के विपरीत अवैध हथियार इकट्ठे किए और हिंसक गतिविधियों को अंजाम दिया। महात्मा गांधी की हत्या और संघ पर प्रतिबंध लगाए जाने के करीब महीने भर बाद गृहमंत्री सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल ने नेहरू को 27 फरवरी 1948 को एक चिट्ठी लिखी थी। चिट्ठी में पटेल ने लिखा कि आरएसएस का गांधी जी की हत्या में सीधा हाथ तो नहीं है, लेकिन ये जरूर है कि गांधी जी की हत्या का ये लोग जश्न मना रहे थे। पटेल के मुताबिक गांधी जी की हत्या में हिंदू महासभा के एक गुट का हाथ था। कुछ महीनों बाद गोलवलकर को रिहा कर दिया गया, लेकिन आरएसएस पर प्रतिबंध लगा रहा। प्रतिबंध हटाने के लिए गोलवलकर ने प्रधानमंत्री नेहरू को पत्र लिखा, जिसका जवाब देते हुए नेहरू ने कहा कि ये पूरा मामला गृहमंत्री सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल के जिम्मे है। 10 नवंबर को नेहरू ने गोलवलकर को एक पत्र लिख कहा कि सरकार के पास आरएसएस के खिलाफ कई सबूत हैं, इस वजह से बैन नहीं हटाया जा सकता।  12 जुलाई प्रतिबंध हटाने की शर्तों के मुताबिक आरएसएस को अपना संविधान बनाना होगा और अपने संगठन सदस्यों के चुनाव होंगे। आरएसएस किसी भी प्रकार की राजनीतिक गतिविधियों में हिस्सा नहीं लेगा और खुद को सांस्कृतिक गतिविधियों तक सीमित रखेगा। प्रतिबंध हटने के बाद आरएसएस ने सीधे राजनीति करने के बजाय 1951 में श्यामा प्रसाद मुखर्जी के नेतृत्व में जनसंघ नाम की पार्टी बनवाई 1980 में जनसंघ के लोगों ने ही भारतीय जनता पार्टी का गठन किया। अब केंद्र से लेकर तमाम राज्यों में आरएसएस, भाजपा की सरकारें हैं और संघ जमकर राजनीति कर रहा है।

1954 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुप्रतिभावान बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री और गायिका सुलक्षणा पंडित का जन्म रायगढ़, मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ।

1959 जानी मानी उद्यमी और कारोबारी वंदना लूथरा का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1960 बिहार के भागलपुर और रांची यूनिवर्सिटी की स्थापना हुई।

1961 भारी बारिश से नए बने तानाजी सागर डैम की दीवार टूट गई थी। इससे डैम का सारा पानी पुणे शहर में घुस गया था। हादसे में कितने लोग मरे इसका सटीक आंकड़ा आज तक पता नहीं है, लेकिन एक अनुमान के मुताबिक इस हादसे में कम से कम एक हजार लोग मारे गए थे और लाखों लोग बेघर हुए थे।

1965 विख्यात क्रिकेटर और कमेंटेटर संजय मांजरेकर का जन्म हुआ.

1962 ब्रिटिश रॉक बैंड रोलिंग स्टोन ने लंदन के एक क्लब में पहली बार परफॉर्म किया।

1982 नेशनल बैंक फॉर एग्रीकल्चर एंड रूरल डेवलपमेंट नाबार्ड की स्थापना हुई। 1982 को इसी दिन भारतीय टेबल टेनिस खिलाड़ी अचंत शरत कमल का जन्म हुआ. इसी दिन 1982 में जाने माने हिंदी साहित्यकार विश्वनाथ प्रसाद मिश्र का निधन हुआ.

1983 जाने माने क्रिकेटर मुनाफ पटेल का जन्म हुआ।

1986 जानी मानी भारतीय माॅडल और फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवलिन लक्ष्मी शर्मा का जन्म फ्रैंकफर्ट जर्मनी में हुआ।

1999 1950-60 के दशक के भारत के जाने-माने फिल्म अभिनेता राजेंद्र कुमार का निधन हुआ। 1999 में अमेरिका के सैन फ्रांसिस्को प्रशासन ने किराने की दुकानों और फार्मेसियों में प्लास्टिक बैग के उपयोग पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया। यह शहर प्लास्टिक बैग के उपयोग को प्रतिबंधित करने वाला दुनिया का पहला स्थान बन गया। दुनिया भर के अन्य शहरों और देशों ने भी इसका अनुसरण किया, जिससे पेपर बैग में रुचि फिर से बढ़ गई। विश्व पेपर बैग दिवस एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय कार्यक्रम बन गया है जो परेड, त्योहारों और अन्य कार्यक्रमों के साथ मनाया जाता है जो प्लास्टिक बैग के बजाय पेपर बैग के उपयोग को बढ़ावा देते हैं। फ्रांसिस वोले नाम के अमेरिकी आविष्कारक ने 1852 में पहली बार पेपर बैग मशीन बनाई थी। 1871 में, मार्गरेट ई. नाइट ने फ्लैट-बॉटम पेपर बैग बनाने के लिए एक और मशीन बनाई थी। उस समय इसका नाम किराने की थैलियों के रूप में प्रचलित हुआ। इन पेपर बैग का इस्तेमाल बड़ी मात्रा में किया जाने लगा। अब प्लास्टिक बैग पालीथीन पन्नियों से होने वाले नुक्सानों के मद्देनजर कागज के लिफाफों के अधिकाधिक इस्तेमाल पर जोर दिया जा रहा है।

2002 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के राजनीतिज्ञ और गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री हुए घनश्यामभाई ओझा का निधन हुआ।

2005 भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के प्रसिद्ध नेता पी. के. वासुदेवन नायर का निधन हुआ।

2012 विश्व प्रसिद्ध भारतीय पहलवान और हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेता दारा सिंह रंधावा का निधन हुआ।

2013  प्राण नाम से सुपरिचित हिंदी फिल्मों के शानदार खलनायक और चरित्र अभिनेता प्राण कृष्ण सिकंद का निधन हुआ था। इसी दिन बच्चों की शिक्षा और बच्चों के अधिकारों के लिए जानी गई नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित पाकिस्तान की मलाला यूसुफजई ने यूनाइटेड नेशंस को संबोधित किया। मलाला का 12 जुलाई को जन्मदिन भी है।

2022 सरकार द्वारा आतंकी संगठन बताए गये प्रतिबंधित जम्मू कश्मीर लिबरेशन फ्रंट के मुखिया यासीन मलिक ने जम्मू एवं कश्मीर की एक विशेष अदालत से पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री मुफ्ती मोहम्मद सईद की बेटी रुबिया सईद के अपहरण से जुड़े मामले में प्रत्यक्ष रूप से पेश होने तथा गवाहों से खुद जिरह करने की अनुमति मांगी और कहा कि इसकी अनुमति न मिलने पर वह अनिश्चितकालीन भूख हड़ताल करेंगे। इसी दिन जानी मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल अथिया शेट्टी ने किक्रेटर के.एल. राहुल के साथ अगले तीन महीने में विवाह करने पुष्टि अपने सोशल मीडिया एकाउंट्स पर पोस्ट में की। इसी दिन अमेरिका में एक दिन पहले 11 जुलाई को पूर्व अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनल्ड ट्रंप पर चल रहे एक मुकदमे के बावत खबरें प्रकाशित हुईं, जिसके अनुसार कैपिटल हिल हिंसा की जांच कर रहे अमेरिकी कांग्रेस कमेटी ने पूर्व राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प के झूठ का पर्दाफाश किया है, जांच समिति ने रिपोर्ट में इस बात के प्रमाण दिए हैं कि ट्रम्प ने अपने समर्थकों की एक भीड़ को यूएस कैपिटल तक ले जाने की योजना बनाई थी, जब कांग्रेस 2020 के चुनाव को प्रमाणित करने के लिए मतदान कर रही थी। यह हाउस 6 जनवरी 2021 के मामले की कमेटी की 7वीं सुनवाई से धमाकेदार रहस्योद्घाटन था, जिसमें विस्तृत रूप से बताया गया था कि कैसे ट्रंप चाहते थे कि भीड़ कैपिटल पर उतरती हुई सहज दिखे। सुनवाई में स्टार गवाह श्वेत वकील पैट सिपोलोन ने भी गवाही दी कि उन्होंने ट्रंप की कार्रवाई पर समिति के समक्ष सभी सबूतों की पुष्टि करने के अलावा ट्रंप को उनके असंवैधानिक कृत्यों से दूर करने की पूरी कोशिश की, जिसमें व्हाइट हाउस के शीर्ष सहयोगी कैसिडी हचिंसन के विस्फोटक बयान शामिल थे। कांग्रेस जांच समिति ने एक रैली आयोजक कैटरीना पीयरसन के एक ईमेल का खुलासा किया, जिसने 2 जनवरी को व्हाइट हाउस के चीफ ऑफ स्टाफ मार्क मीडोज के साथ एक फोन कॉल के बाद साथी आयोजकों को सूचित किया कि ट्रंप कैपिटल तक मार्च करने के लिए सभी को बुलाने की योजना बना रहे थे। एक अन्य रैली आयोजक, काइली जेन क्रेमर ने 4 जनवरी के संदेश में लिखा था कि राष्ट्रीय उद्यान सेवा को सतर्क करने से बचने के लिए योजना को गुप्त रखना महत्वपूर्ण था। ट्रंप के पूर्व सलाहकार स्टीव बैनन को इस बात की जानकारी थी कि क्या चल रहा है। बैनन ने 5 जनवरी, 2021 के पॉडकास्ट पर भविष्यवाणी की कि अगले दिन सभी नरक टूट जाएंगे, और समिति ने मंगलवार को यह खुलासा किया कि बैनन ने उस दिन ट्रंप के साथ दो बार बात की थी।

1906 Telegraph message was sent about 300 kilometers away. Tasmania's Governor Gerald Strickland sent the message to Victoria's Governor Northcote via Morse code. This was the first message to be sent over such a distance through the telegraph machine made by Marconi in the Southern Hemisphere. This was such a big feat at that time that when the message reached Victoria, there was a grand celebration there. Shops remained closed throughout the day and people danced on the streets.

1949 Government of India lifted the ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with some conditions. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 by Nathuram Godse, a disciple of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Nathuram Godse was a member of RSS ie Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. RSS chief Golwalkar was arrested after Gandhiji's assassination. Although it is believed that Godse was groomed by Savarkar to kill Gandhi, but no evidence was found in its favor. RSS was banned on 4 February 1948. The RSS, contrary to its stated ideals, collected illegal weapons and carried out violent activities. Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel wrote a letter to Nehru on 27 February 1948, about a month after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and the ban on the Sangh. In the letter, Patel wrote that the RSS did not have a direct hand in Gandhi's assassination, but it is certain that these people were celebrating Gandhi's assassination. According to Patel, a faction of the Hindu Mahasabha had a hand in Gandhiji's assassination. Golwalkar was released a few months later, but the RSS remained banned. Golwalkar wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nehru to lift the ban, to which Nehru replied that the entire matter was the responsibility of Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. On November 10, Nehru wrote a letter to Golwalkar saying that the government had a lot of evidence against the RSS, because of which the ban could not be lifted. As per the condition of lifting the ban on July 12, the RSS will have to formulate its own constitution and hold elections for its organizational members. The RSS will not take part in any kind of political activities and will confine itself to cultural activities. After the ban was lifted, instead of doing politics directly, the RSS formed a party named Jan Sangh under the leadership of Syama Prasad Mookerjee in 1951. In 1980, the people of Jan Sangh formed the Bharatiya Janata Party. Now there are RSS, BJP governments from the center to all the states and the Sangh is doing politics fiercely.

1954 Sulakshana Pandit, well-known beautiful, bold, multi-talented Bollywood film actress and singer, was born in Raigarh, Madhya Pradesh.

1959 Vandana Luthra, noted entrepreneur and businesswoman, was born in Calcutta.

1960 Bhagalpur and Ranchi Universities of Bihar were established.

1961 The wall of the newly built Tanaji Sagar Dam was breached by heavy rains. Due to this all the water of the dam had entered the city of Pune. The exact figure of how many people died in the accident is not known till date, but according to an estimate, at least one thousand people were killed in this accident and lakhs of people were rendered homeless.

1965 Sanjay Manjrekar, noted cricketer and commentator, was born.

1986 Evelyn Lakshmi Sharma, noted Indian model and film actress, was born in Frankfurt, Germany.

1999 Rajendra Kumar, India's best-known film actor of the 1950s-60s, passed away. In 1999, the US San Francisco Administration banned the use of plastic bags in grocery stores and pharmacies. The city became the first in the world to ban the use of plastic bags. Other cities and countries around the world followed suit, rekindling interest in paper bags. World Paper Bag Day has become an international event celebrated with parades, festivals and other events that promote the use of paper bags instead of plastic bags. The American inventor named Francis Wooley made the first paper bag machine in 1852. In 1871, Margaret E. Knight built another machine for making flat-bottom paper bags. At that time its name became popular as grocery bags. These paper bags started being used in large quantities. Now in view of the disadvantages caused by plastic bags, polythene sheets, more and more emphasis is being laid on the use of paper envelopes.
