1346 लक्जमबर्ग के चार्ल्स चतुर्थ रोमन साम्राज्य के शासक चुने गये। लक्जमबर्ग पश्चिम यूरोप का एक छोटा सा देश है। यह बेल्जियम, फ्रांस और जर्मनी से घिरा हुआ है। लक्जमबर्ग का क्षेत्रफल 2586 वर्ग किलोमीटर है, जबकि जनसंख्या पाँच लाख के करीब है। लक्जमबर्ग में संसदीय लोकतांत्रिक व्यवस्था है, जबकि संवैधानिक रूप से राजा सर्वोच्च होता है। लक्जमबर्ग एक विकसित देश है, जहाँ प्रतिव्यक्ति सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) सबसे ज्यादा है। लक्जमबर्ग यूरोपीय संघ, नाटो, संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ, यूरोपीय संघ और ओईसीडी का संस्थापक सदस्य है, जो देश में आर्थिक, राजनीतिक और सैन्य एकीकरण पर सर्वसम्मति को दर्शाता है। सांस्कृति रूप से लक्जमबर्ग ने रोमन यूरोप और जर्मन यूरोप की सांस्कृतिक विशेषताओं को अपनाया है। यहाँ जर्मन, फ्रेंच और लक्समबर्गी भाषाएं बोली जाती हैं और ये तीनों ही इसकी आधिकारिक भाषाएं हैं। धर्मनिरपेक्ष होने के बावजूद, लक्समबर्ग रोमन कैथोलिक इसाई धर्म प्रभावित देश है।

1630 कलकत्ता आयी पहली विदेशी महिला बेगम रेजाबीबेह सूकिएस का निधन हुआ।

1673 नीदरलैंड और डेनमार्क के बीच रक्षा संधि पर हस्ताक्षर हुए।

1776 प्रसिद्ध यात्री, नाविक और खोजी जेम्स कुक ने अपनी तीसरी समुद्री यात्रा शुरू की।

1832 ब्रिटिश संसद ने सती प्रथा के उन्मुलन के खिलाफ शुद्धतावादी, उच्चवर्णीय हिंदुओं की अपील ठुकराई। पहले पति के मरने पर उसके शव के साथ पत्नी को जिंदा जला दिया जाता था। इसके खिलाफ राजा राम मोहन राय के प्रयासों से अंग्रेज सरकार इस कुप्रथा को खत्म करने के लिए कानून लाई जिसका उच्च जातीय हिंदुओं खासतौर पर ब्राह्मणों ने विरोध किया लेकिन अंग्रेजों ने उस विरोध को खारिज कर दिया।

1857 प्रख्यात भारतीय न्यायाधीश एवं राजनेता सी. शंकरन नायर का जन्म हुआ।

1859 लंदन क्लॉक टॉवर की घंटी बिग बेन को पहली बार बजाया गया। 1889 कलकत्ता का सोवा बाजार क्लब किसी फुटबॉल टूर्नामेंट में भाग लेने वाला पहला भारतीय दल बना।

1896 विल्फ्रीड लारियर ने कनाडा के सातवें प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली।

1899 स्वतंत्रता प्राप्ति के बाद बने राजस्थान राज्य के दूसरे मुख्यमंत्री हुए, पूर्व भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के अफसर, कूटनीतिज्ञ कादंबी शेषाचार वेंकटाचार का जन्म कोलार, कर्नाटक में हुआ।

1902 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, राजनीतिज्ञ एवं भारत के प्रथम रक्षामंत्री सरदार बलदेव सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1912 फ्रांस के विश्व प्रसिद्ध नेत्र रोग विशेषज्ञ फर्डिनांड मोनोयेर का निधन हुआ।

1919 श्रमिक आंदोलनों के बाद नीदरलैंड ने आठ घंटे का दिन और रविवार का अवकाश श्रमिक कानून बनाया।

1920 तीन बार तमिल नाडु राज्य के कार्यवाहक मुख्यमंत्री रहे राजनेता वी. आर. नेदुनचेजियन का जन्म हुआ।

1921 अमेरिका के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति विलियम हॉवर्ड टैफ्ट को सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया। अमेरिका में राष्ट्रपति और मुख्य न्यायाधीश होने वाले टैफ्ट एक मात्र व्यक्ति बने। इसी दिन मंगोलिया ने चीन की गुलामी से स्वतंत्र प्राप्त की। इसी दिन मंगोलिया पीपुल्स रिपब्लिक की स्थापना हुई।

1922 फिल्म और मनोरंजन उद्योग का दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा अड्डा हॉलीवुड स्थापित हुआ। यह लाॅस एंजेल्स शहर में है। काफी सुविधाओं वाला भव्य थिएटर हॉलीवुड बाउल खोला गया।

1923 हिंदी सिनेमा की पहली महिला हास्य कलाकार, मशहूर चरित्र अभिनेत्री और गायिका टुन टुन यानी उमा देवी खत्री का जन्म हुआ।

1930 डाॅन ब्रेडमैन ने लीड्स में इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ एक दिन में 309 रन बनाए। 

1948 येरूशलम में पहला हवाई हमला हुआ।

1956 ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार प्राप्त प्रसिद्ध लेखक, कथाकार अमिताव घोष का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1957 मुस्लिम लीग के संस्थापक सदस्य आगा खां का निधन हुआ।

1960 हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेता कुमार गौरव का जन्म हुआ। 1960 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी लेखिका हार्पर ली की बेहद चर्चित औपन्यासिक रचना टू किल अ मॉकिंगबर्ड प्रकाशित हुई।

1967 विख्यात भारतीय - अमेरिकन लेखिका झुंपा लाहिड़ी यानी नीलांजना सुदेशना का जन्म लंदन में हुआ।

1973 पेरिस के निकट ब्राजील को बोइंग विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से 122 मारे गए।

1977 मार्टिन लूथर किंग जूनियर को राष्ट्रपति पदक से मरणोपरांत सम्मानित किया गया। वह एक महान मानवतावादी और मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता थे। मार्टिन लूथर ने नस्लवाद के खिलाफ अमेरिका में अहिंसक सविनय अवज्ञा आंदोलनों चलाया था। प्रेसिडेंशियल मेडल ऑफ फ्रीडम यूएसए का सर्वोच्च नागरिक पुरस्कार है।

1979 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष प्रयोगशाला स्काई लैब धरती पर गिरी। यह हिंद महासागर और पश्चिम ऑस्ट्रेलिया में गिरी थी। इसके गिरने से पहले पूरी दुनिया में कयास लगाए जा रहे थे कि यह धरती पर कहां गिरेगी और कितना नुकसान होगा।

1985 कोका कोला कंपनी ने कोक में बदलाव कर न्यू कोक को मार्केट में उतारा। कोका कोला को 1977 में बनी जनता पार्टी की सरकार ने भारत से निकाल दिया था।

1986 न्यूजीलैंड संसद ने समलैंगिक कानून सुधार पारित कर समलैंगिक यौन संबंध को वैध बना दिया। इसी दिन जानी मानी दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल दीप्ति नांबियार का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1987 दुनिया की आबादी ने पांच अरब का आंकड़ा पर कर लिया तो संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने 11 जुलाई को विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस मनाने का फैसला किया।

1991 किंग अब्दुल अजीज इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट, सऊदी अरब, से नाइजीरिया एयरवेज फ्लाइट 2120 में टेकऑफ के तुरंत बाद आग लग गई और सभी 261 यात्रि मारे गये।

1995 एक नरसंहार में बोस्नियाई सर्ब बलों ने सेरेब्रेनिका, बोस्निया, हर्जेगोविना क्षेत्र में सेरेब्रेनिकैमासेरे शुरू किया, जिसमें करीब 8,000 लोग मारे गये। इसी दिन अमेरिका एवं वियतनाम के बीच कूटनीतिक रिश्ते स्थापित हुए।

2002 दक्षिण कोरिया की पहली महिला प्रधानमंत्री चांग शांग बनीं।

2003 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कथाकार भीष्म साहनी का निधन हुआ। यह विख्यात फिल्म अभिनेता और समाजवादी कार्यकर्ता बलराज साहनी के भाई थे। इसी दिन लाहौर से दोस्ती बस और दिल्ली से सदा-ए-सरहद बस परिचालन शुरु हुआ।

2004 एचआईवी-एड्स पर एशियाई मंत्रियों का सम्मेलन बैंकॉक में आयोजित हुआ। इसी दिन मुम्बई उपनगरीय में 7 रेलों में बम विस्फोट हुये।

2006 मुंबई बम धमाकों में 209 लोग मारे गए।

2007 विश्व चर्चित भारतीय चित्रकार मकबूल फिदा हुसैन न्यूयार्क की कला प्रदर्शनी में मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में शामिल हुए।

2008 एक अमेरिकी हवाई हमले में पाकिस्तान के वजीरिस्तान प्रान्त में 11 लोग घायल हुए।

2010 फुटबॉल विश्वकप के फाइल में स्पेन ने नीदरलैंड को -0 से हराकर खिताब जीता।

2011 परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित भारतीय सैनिक सेकेंड लेफ्टिनेंट रामा राघोबा राणे का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन एवेंजेलोस फ्लोरकिस नेवल बेस में एक विस्फोट में साइप्रस नौसेना के प्रमुख सहित 12 लोगों की मौत हो गई, यह साइप्रस के इतिहास में सबसे बड़ी सैन्य दुर्घटना थी।

2012 प्लूटो के पांचवें चंद्रमा की खोज की घोषणा खगोलविदों ने की। इस चंद्रमा को स्टाइलेक्स नाम दिया गया।

1967: Noted Indian-American author Jhumpa Lahiri, aka Nilanjana Sudeshna, was born in London.

1973 Boeing plane to Brazil crashes near Paris, killing 122.

1977 Martin Luther King Jr. was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was a great humanitarian and human rights activist. Martin Luther led non-violent civil disobedience movements in America against racism. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award of the USA.

1979 The American space laboratory Sky Lab fell to Earth. It fell in the Indian Ocean and West Australia. Before its fall, speculations were being made all over the world that where it would fall on the earth and how much damage would be caused.

1985 The Coca-Cola Company introduced New Coke into the market by changing Coke. Coca-Cola was thrown out of India by the Janata Party government formed in 1977.

1986 New Zealand Parliament passes gay law reform, legalizing gay sex. On this day, Deepti Nambiar, a well-known South Indian film and television actress and model, was born in Pune.

2004 Asian Ministers' Conference on HIV-AIDS held in Bangkok. On the same day there were bomb blasts in 7 trains in Mumbai Suburban.

209 people were killed in the 2006 Mumbai bomb blasts.

2007 World renowned Indian painter Maqbool Fida Hussain attended the New York art exhibition as the chief guest.

2008 A US airstrike injured 11 people in Pakistan's Waziristan province.
