860 करीब 200 रूसी जहाजों के एक बेड़े ने कोस्तांतिनोपल पर हमला किया। उस समय कोस्तांतिनोपल यूरोप का यह सबसे बड़ा नगर था जो अब तुर्की के वाणिज्यिक नगर इस्तांबूल के नाम से जाना जाता है।

1053 हाउटविले के हम्फ्रे ने नॉर्मन्स की सेना का नेतृत्व करते हुए पोप लियो द्वितीय और पवित्र रोमन साम्राज्य की संयुक्त सेना के खिलाफ बीटल ऑफ सिविटेट में युद्ध किया।

1429 जोन ऑफ आर्क के नेतृत्व में फ्रांसीसी सेनाओं ने पटे की लड़ाई में सर जॉन फास्टोल्फ के नेतृत्व वाली मुख्य अंग्रेजी सेना को हराया। बाद में 30 मई 1431 को अंग्रेजों से फ्रांस की रक्षा करने वाली वीरांगना जोन ऑफ आर्क को धर्मविरोधी होने का आरोप लगाकर मौत की सजा दे दी गई। उसके साथ घोर अन्याय, अपमान किया गया और जिंदा जलाकर अधजला शव सीन नदी में फेंक दिया गया। इससे फ्रांस में व्यापक विद्रोह फैला और बाद में जोन ऑफ आर्क पर लगाए गये आरोपों का पुनर्परीक्षण किया गया कि उस पर लगाए गये सभी आरोप मिथ्या और राजनीति से प्रेरित थे। जोन ऑफ आर्क को बाद में महान संत, नारी सशक्तिकरण की प्रतीक और बहुत से सम्मान प्रदान किये गये।

1576 मुगल साम्राज्य के शासक जलाल उद्दीन मोहम्मद अकबर और मेवाड़, उदयपुर के राजा प्रताप सिंह सिसौदिया के बीच हल्दीघाटी का युद्ध शुरू हुआ।

1658 मुहिउद्दीन मोहम्मद औरंगजेब ने आगरा के किले पर कब्जा कर लिया।

1802 जीए लांग को वियतनाम में गुयेन वंश के पहले सम्राट के रूप में सिंहासनारूढ़ किया गया।

1858 प्रख्यात प्रकृति, मानव विज्ञानी चार्ल्स डार्विन को प्राकृतिक चयन पर अपने पूर्ववर्ती प्रकृतिवादी रसेल वालेस की एक पांडुलिपि मिली, जिसका आधार लेकर डार्विन ने अपने विकास के सिद्धांत को पुनः प्रकाशित किया।

1861 बहुचर्चित, बहुपठित उपन्यास चंद्रकांता के लेखक देवकीनंदन खत्री का जन्म समस्तीपुर, बिहार में हुआ।

1875 कलकत्ता के प्रतिष्ठित टैगोर परिवार में सुनयनी देवी का जन्म हुआ। वे भारत की जानी मानी चित्रकार हुईं।

1887 प्रख्यात भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, शिक्षक, वकील, राजनीतिज्ञ तथा आधुनिक बिहार के निर्माता कहे गये अनुग्रह नारायण सिन्हा का जन्म हुआ।

1899 प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, गाँधीवादी चिंतक और प्रसिद्ध लेखक दादा धर्माधिकारी का जन्म मध्य प्रदेश के बैतूल जिले में हुआ।

1922 प्रसिद्ध फ्रांसीसी पियानोवादक क्लॉड हेलफर का जन्म हुआ।

1923 चेकर टैक्सी ने सड़कों पर अपनी पहली टैक्सी लगाई। अमेरिका में 1900 के आरंभ में प्रमुख शहरों की सड़कों पर सवारियों को किराया लेकर लाने ले जाने वाली मोटर टैक्सी दिखाई देने लगीं। मुख्य रूप से शिकागो में, जहां कई रेलमार्गों के टर्मिनल थे, ऑन-डिमांड, पॉइंट-टू-पॉइंट चॉफिर-चालित परिवहन की ज्यादा आवश्यकता अनुभव की जा रही थी।

1923 इटली में ज्वालामुखी माउंट एटना के पुनः उद्घाटित होने से साठ हजार लोग बेघर हो गए।

1931 हिंदुत्ववादी सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक और राजनीतिक संगठन राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के पाँचवें सरसंघचालक हुए के एस सुदर्शन का जन्म छत्तीसगढ़ के रायपुर जिले में हुआ। इसी दिन ब्राजील के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति फर्नांडो हेनरिक कार्डोसो का जन्म हुआ।

1940 नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस ने भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के एक संगठन फॉरवर्ड ब्लॉक की स्थापना की।

1941 तुर्की ने नाजी जर्मनी के साथ शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1946 प्रसिद्ध समाजवादी नेता और चिंतक डॉ राम मनोहर लोहिया की अगुवाई में गोवा में पुर्तगाल के शासन के खिलाफ पहला सत्याग्रह आंदोलन शुरू हुआ था।

1953 डगलस सी -124 ग्लोबमास्टर द्वितीय विमान तेचिकावा, जापान से उड़ान भरने के बाद दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, जिससे 129 लोग मारे गए।

1956 भारत की संसद में हिंदू उत्तराधिकार अधिनियम पारित हुआ।

1958 नौकायन में भारत के श्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ी होमी डैडी मोतीवाला का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1972 ब्रिटिश यूरोपीय एयरवेज का विमान खुले मैदान में जा गिरा, इस हादसे में 118 लोग मारे गए।

1974 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, सांसद तथा हिंदी के साहित्यकार हुए सेठ गोविन्द दास का निधन हुआ।

1977 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के लोकप्रिय हास्य कलाकार रियाद मूसा का जन्म केपटाउन में हुआ।

1978 काराकोरम राजमार्ग खोला गया। यह राजमार्ग दुनिया की सबसे ऊंची पक्की अंतरराष्ट्रीय सड़क के रूप में जाना जाता है जो चीन और पाकिस्तान को जोड़ती है। 1,300 किमी के राजमार्ग को काराकोरम नाम इसलिए दिया गया क्योंकि यह काराकोरम पर्वत माला से होकर गुजरता है।

1979 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जिम्मी कार्टर एवं सोवियत राष्ट्रपति लियोनिद ब्रेझनेव ने साल्ट-द्वितीय समझौते पर वियना में हस्ताक्षर किये।

1980 शकुंतला देवी ने दो 13 डिजिट के नंबरों का गुणा किया और 28 सेकंड्स में सही उत्तर दे दिया।

1983 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष शटल कार्यक्रम एसटीएस -7 के तहत अमेरिकी भौतिक विज्ञानी सैली क्रिस्टन राइड अंतरिक्ष में जाने वाली पहली अमेरिकी महिला बन गई। उन्होंने महज 32 साल की उम्र में यह उपलब्धि हासिल की।

1987 प्रख्यात भारतीय कृषि विज्ञानी एम.एस.स्वामीनाथन को पहला विश्व खाद्य पुरस्कार मिला। इसी दिन इंग्लैंड के ऑलराउंडर मोईन अली का बर्मिंघम में जन्म हुआ।

1990 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल प्रियंका मोहन यानी अवंतिका मोहन का जन्म दुबई, संयुक्त अरब अमीरात में हुआ।

1999 पैंतीस यूरोपीय देशों के बीच लंदन में पेयजल समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर हुए। इसी दिन लातविया में वाइके फ्रेबरेमा को देश का नया राष्ट्रपति चुना गया।

2001 पाकिस्तान के रक्षा बजट में कटौती की गई और अफगानिस्तान में तालिबान ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र अमेरिका के खिलाफ लादेन के फतवे को रद्द किया।

2002 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री नसीम बानो का निधन हुआ।

2003 गूगल ने इंटरनेट प्रोग्राम विज्ञापन सेवा एडसेंस लांच किया।

2004 चाड के सैनिकों ने 69 सूडानी मिलिशिया की हत्या की।

2005 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेटर और टेस्ट बल्लेबाज मुश्ताक अली का निधन हुआ।

2006 प्रथम कजाख अंतरिक्ष उपग्रह कजसैट लॉन्च किया गया था। काजसैट एक संचार उपग्रह था जिसे पृथ्वी से लगभग 36,000 किमी ऊपर एक भू-समकालिक कक्षा में स्थापित किया जाना तय था। यह थेल्स एलेनिया स्पेस के सहयोग से ख्रुंखेव स्पेस सेंटर ने निर्मित किया गया था। उपग्रह का आंशिक नियंत्रण जुलाई 2008 में और पूरी तरह से अक्टूबर 2008 में समाप्त हो गया।

2008 केंद्र सरकार ने गुर्जरों को ओबीसी कोटे में 5 प्रतिशत आरक्षण देने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन भारत यात्रा पर आये सीरिया के राष्ट्रपति बशहर अल असद और प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह के मध्य तीन समझोते पर हस्ताक्षर हुए। इसी दिन फार्मा कम्पनी रैनबैक्सी ने अमेरिका फार्मा कम्पनी फाइजर के साथ पेटेंट विवाद को एक समझौते के तहत समाप्त किया। इसी दिन वियतनाम ने विश्व बाजार में आपूर्ति की स्थिति में सुधार के लिए चावल के निर्यात पर लगी पाबंदी हटाई। 

2009 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय संगीतकार, शास्त्रीय गायक और सरोद वादक अली अकबर खाँ का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने चांद पर पानी की खोज के लिए टोही यान भेजा।

2012 सलमान बिन अब्दुल अजीज अल सऊद सऊदी अरब के क्राउन प्रिंस नियुक्त किए गये।

2013 इराक की राजधानी बगदाद में दो आत्मघाती हमलों में 31 लोग मारे गए और 60 घायल हुए। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान के शेरगढ़ में आत्मघाती हमले में 27 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2017 आईसीसी चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी के मैच में पाकिस्तान ने भारत को हरा कर खिताब जीता।
