240 ग्रैंड हिस्टोरियन के चीनी क्रॉनिकल रिकॉर्ड के अनुसार वहां के खगोलविदों ने पहली बार हैली के धूमकेतु को देखे जाने की पुष्टि की। यह रिकॉर्ड अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मान्यता प्राप्त है।

1644 मंचु ने पेइचिंग पर कब्जा कर चीन में किंग राजवंश स्थापित किया।

1831 दाग देहलवी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध भारतीय उर्दू शायर नवाब मिर्जा खान का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1877 यात्रियों से भरा स्टीमर सर जॉन लारेंस उड़ीसा तट के पास डूब गया। इस स्टीमर में कुल 732 लोग सवार थे।

1886 ब्रिटिश राज के दौरान भारत के प्रमुख क्रांतिकारी प्रख्यात वकील और शिक्षाविद रास बिहारी बोस का जन्म हुआ।

1948 भारत के विख्यात संगीतज्ञ, फिल्म संगीत निर्देशक, वायलिन वादक और संगीत से जुड़ी तमाम गतिविधियों में संलग्न उत्तम सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1955 केरल के प्रसिद्ध भारतीय पुलिस सेवा के अफसर, पुलिस महानिदेशक और अन्य महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर रहे डाॅ. एलेक्जेंडर जेकब का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन अंग्रेज जो ब्राउन और जॉर्ज बैंड दुनिया के तीसरे सबसे ऊँचे पर्वत शिखर कंचनजंगा पर चढ़ाई करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बन गए।

1961 अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति जॉन फिटजेराल्ड केनेडी ने अंतरिक्ष अभियान के लिए लाखों डॉलर की राशि को स्वीकृति दी। इस अभियान में 1970 तक अमेरिका को चांद पर पहुंचाने का लक्ष्य रखा गया था। इसी दिन 1970 बोइंग कंप्यूटर सर्विस की स्थापना की गई।

1972 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता और फिल्म निर्माता करण जौहर का जन्म हुआ।

1963 अफ्रीका के 32 देशों ने संघ का गठन किया, इसका उद्देश्य था, अफ्रीकी देशों का मिलजुल कर .विकास करना।

1991 बाॅलीवुड फिल्म जिद से अभिनय की शुरुआत करने वाली, तेलुगू फिल्मों की प्रमुख, खूबसूरत एवं बोल्ड अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल मन्नारा चोपड़ा का जन्म अंबाला छावनी हरियाणा में हुआ। यह जानी मानी फिल्म अभिनेत्री परिणीति चोपड़ा की रिश्तेदार भी हैं। परिणीति का जन्म भी अंबाला में ही हुआ है। इसी दिन इथियोपिया से 14 हजार यहूदियों को इस्राइल निर्वासित किया गया।

1995 अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिकों को पहली बार जीवित जीव के डीएनए को डीकोड करने में सफलता मिली।

1998 यूरोपीय संघ के सदस्य देश भारत पर परमाणु परीक्षणों के कारण प्रतिबंध न लगाने के लिए सहमत हुए। इसी दिन हिंदी सिनेमा संगीतज्ञ जोड़ी लक्ष्मीकांत-प्यारेलाल के लक्ष्मीकांत का निधन हुआ।

2008 मंगल ग्रह पर पानी और जीवन की संभावना तलाशने को अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा - नेशनल एयरोनोटिक्स स्पेश एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन द्वारा भेजा गया फीनिक्स मार्स लैंडर 25 मई मंगल की सतह पर उतारा था। यह सोलर ऊर्जा पर निर्भर था। इस लैंडर के द्वारा मंगल की मिट्टी के परीक्षण के आधार पर नासा ने ग्रह पर पानी मौजूद होने की घोषणा की थी।

2008 यूरोपीय थायराइड एसोसिएशन और अमेरिकन थायराइड एसोसिएशन के नेतृत्व में अभियान के एक भाग के रूप में विश्व थायराइड दिवस शुरू किया गया।  इसके बाद इसे लैटिन अमेरिकन थायराइड सोसायटी और एशिया ओशिनिया थायराइड एसोसिएशन के साथ मिलकर रोगियों के थायराइड रोग और डॉक्टर और उनका इलाज करने वाले चिकित्सक के लिए मनाया जाने लगा कर्नाटक विधानसभा के 224 सीटों में से 110 सीट जीत कर भारतीय जनता पार्टी दक्षिण के किसी राज्य में पहली बार सरकार बनाने में सफल रही।

2012 हिंदी कवि एवं निबंधकार भगवत रावत का निधन हुआ। 2012 में इसी दिन स्पेसएक्स का ड्रैगन अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्पेस स्टेशन के साथ मिलने वाला पहला व्यावसायिक अंतरिक्ष यान बन गया।

2013 जापान के 80 वर्षीय युइशिरो मिडरा ने एवरेस्ट पर चढ़ने का रिकार्ड अपने नाम किया. उन्होंने यह कारनामा सबसे अधिक उम्र में कर दिखाया.
