1543 सन 1473 की 19 फरवरी को पोलैंड के तौरून में जन्मे पुनर्जागरण काल के विश्व प्रसिद्ध खगोलविद, गणितज्ञ, दार्शनिक निकोलस काॅपरनिकस का निधन पोलेंड के फ्रोमबर्क में हुआ। काॅपरनिकस यह सिद्धांत प्रतिपादित किया कि पृथ्वी समेत सभी ग्रह सूरज के चक्कर लगाते है और पृथ्वी अपनी धुरी पर भी घूमती है, जिससे विभिन्न मौसम आते-जाते हैं।

1653 जर्मनी की संसद ने फर्डिनेंड द्वितीय को ऑस्ट्रिया का राजा घोषित किया।

1689 ब्रिटिश संसद ने प्रोटेस्टेंट इसाइयों को धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता की गारंटी दी।

1798 यूनाइटेड आयरिशमैन या संयुक्त आयरलैंड की जनता ने ब्रिटिश शासन के खिलाफ विद्रोह की शुरुआत की।

1824 अंग्रेजों ने प्रथम अंग्रेज - बर्मी युद्ध में बर्मा और उसकी राजधानी रंगून पर कब्जा किया।

1928 भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता जना कृष्णमूर्ति का जन्म हुआ।

1830 अमेरिका में पहली बार यात्री रेल रोड सेवा की शुरुआत हुई।

1931 पहली वातानुकूलित यात्री ट्रेन अमेरिका के वाल्टमोर ओहियो मार्ग पर चलाई गई।

1875 सर सैय्यद अहमद खान ने अलीगढ़ में मुहम्मदीन एंग्लो ओरिएंटल स्कूल की स्थापना की जो वर्तमान में अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।

1879 अमेरीकी दासता विरोधी आंदोलन के नेता विलियम लायड गैरिसन का निधन हुआ।

1883 अमेरिका में ब्रुकलिन और मैनहट्टन को जोड़ने वाले ब्रुकलिन ब्रिज को यातायात के लिए खोला गया।

1896 प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी करतार सिंह सराभा का जन्म हुआ। 15 साल की उम्र में वे स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में शामिल हो गये। वे गदर पार्टी में रहे।

1899 प्रसिद्ध प्रगतिशील बांग्ला कवि, बहुप्रतिष्ठित संगीतज्ञ और दार्शनिक, बांग्लादेश के राष्ट्रकवि काजी नजरुल इस्लाम का जन्म पश्चिम बंगाल के आसनसोल के पास चुरुलिया गांव में हुआ।

1905 ब्रह्मसमाज के प्रसिद्ध नेता प्रतापचंद्र मजूमदार का निधन हुआ।

1913 प्रशिया की राजकुमारी विक्टोरिया लुईस ने हनोवर के राजकुमार अर्नेस्ट ऑगस्टस से शादी की। यह घटना पहले विश्व युद्ध के 14 महीने बाद यूरोपीय राजघराने की अंतिम प्रमुख सामाजिक घटनाओं में से एक थी।

1915 महान आविष्कारक थॉमस अल्वा एडिशन ने टेलीस्क्राइब का अविष्कार किया।

1915 प्रथम विश्व युद्ध में इटली ने ऑस्ट्रिया-हंगरी के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की। एंटेंटे पॉवर या मित्र राष्ट्र प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान केंद्रीय शक्तियों के साथ युद्ध में शामिल देश थे। ट्रिपल एंटेंट के सदस्य फ्रांसीसी गणराज्य, ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य और रूसी साम्राज्य थे।

1930 एमी जॉनसन अकेले विमान उड़ाकर लंदन से ऑस्ट्रेलिया पहुंची।

1940 इगोर सिकोरस्की ने पहली सफल एकल-रोटर हेलीकाप्टर उड़ान का प्रदर्शन किया। इगोर इवानोविच सिकोरस्की हेलीकॉप्टर और फिक्स्ड-विंग विमान दोनों में एक रूसी अमेरिकी विमानन मामलों के अग्रणी थे। उन्होंने 1914 में दुनिया के पहले मल्टी-इंजन फिक्स्ड विंग एयरक्राफ्ट, रस्की वाइटाज और पहले एयरलैंडर, इल्या मुरोमेट्स को डिजाइन किया और उड़ाया।

1952 चर्चित भारतीय विदेश सचिव रंजन मथाई का जन्म हुआ।

1954 जानी मानी भारतीय महिला पर्वतारोही बचेंद्री पाल का जन्म उत्तरकाशी, उत्तराखंड में हुआ।

1956 बौद्ध धर्म के प्रवर्तक गौतम बुद्ध की 2500 वीं जयंती धूमधाम से मनायी गयी। इसी दिन गजेटियर में दर्ज वाराणसी शहर का आधिकारिक नाम 24 मई 1956 को स्वीकारने की जानकारी सार्वजनिक की गई। इससे पहले इसे काशी, बनारस आदि कहते थे।

1959 साम्राज्य दिवस का नाम बदलकर राष्ट्रमंडल दिवस किया गया। ब्रिटेन के गुलाम रहे भारत सहित कई देश इस संगठन में शामिल हैं।

1965 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय हिंदी अंग्रेजी पत्रकार और टेलीविजन प्रसारक, कमेंटेटर राजदीप सरदेसाई का जन्म अहमदाबाद में हुआ।

1973 प्रख्यात भारतीय निर्देशक, संपादक, निर्माता और पटकथा लेखक शिरीष कुंदर का जन्म हुआ।

1981 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता और राजनेता राज बब्बर और सुपरिचित फिल्म अभिनेत्री नादिरा बब्बर के बेटे अभिनेता और माॅडल आर्या बब्बर का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1982 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी हिंदी और दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म तथा टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल कांची कौल का जन्म श्रीनगर, जम्मू एवं कश्मीर में हुआ। जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी मोहम्मद रफी का जन्म हुआ।

1985 बांग्लादेश में आये चक्रवाती तूफान से दस हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गये।

1986 मार्गरेट थैचर इजरायल का दौरा करने वाली ब्रिटेन की पहली प्रधानमंत्री बनी।

1989 मलयालम और तेलुगू सिनेमा की विख्यात, बोल्ड, खूबसूरत, लोकप्रिय गीत गायिका, संगीतज्ञ, मंच परफार्मर अभ्या हीरनमयी का जन्म तिरुअनंतपुरम में हुआ।

1990 प्रख्यात भारतीय विधिवेत्ता, राजनीतिज्ञ और पूर्व लोकसभा अध्यक्ष केएस हेगड़े का निधन हुआ।

1994 मीना (सऊदी अरब) में हज के एक समारोह के समय भगदड़ मची। इस हादसे में 250 लोगों से अधिक हाजियों की मृत्यु हुई। इसी दिन न्यूयार्क के वर्ल्ड ट्रेड सेंटर पर बम हमला करने वाले चार आरोपियों में से प्रत्येक को 240 वर्ष कैद की सजा सुनाई गई।

1999 भारत के विख्यात कुश्ती प्रशिक्षक (कोच) व पहलवान गुरु हनुमान का निधन हुआ।

2000 इस्राइल ने दक्षिणी लेबनान से अपना 18 साल पुराना कब्जा खत्म किया और सेना वापस बुलाई। इसी दिन भारतीय हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध गीतकार और शायर मजरूह सुल्तानपुरी का निधन हुआ।

2002 रूस और अमेरिका ने मास्को संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

2003 इस्रायली प्रधानमंत्री एरियल शैरोन ने पश्चिम एशिया शांति योजना स्वीकार की।

2004 उत्तर कोरिया ने मोबाइल फोन पर प्रतिबंध लगाया।

2005 ब्रदर्स डे यानी भाई दिवस की शुरुआत अमेरिका के सी डेनियल रोड्स ने की। नेशनल ब्रदर्स डे यानी राष्ट्रीय भाई दिवस अमेरिका के अलावा ऑस्ट्रेलिया, रूस, जर्मनी और फ्रांस में भी मनाया जाता है। हर साल 24 मई को इसे मनाया जाता है। तब से भारत में भी इसे मनाया जाता है। इसमें भाईचारे की भावना निहित है। महिला पुरुष अपने भाई, बहनों, मित्र, शुभचिंतकों, परिचितों के प्रति अपने प्यार का इजहार करते हैं। इसी दिन एनबी इंकबेयर मंगोलिया के राष्ट्रपति चुने गये।

2008 उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने राज्य कर्मचारियों का मंहगाई भत्ता छह प्रतिशत बढ़ाया।

2010 वैज्ञानिकों ने सिलिकन के सात अणुओं के आकार वाला दुनिया का सबसे छोटा ट्रांजिस्टर बनाने में सफलता प्राप्त की। 2010 में इसी दिन हॉलीवुड के मशहूर पटकथा लेखक साइमन मोंजैक का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन प्रख्यात भारतीय बांगला फिल्म अभिनेता तपेन चटर्जी का निधन हुआ।

2013 राफेल कोरेया तीसरी बार इक्वाडोर के राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए।

2015 ब्रिटेन से कुछ ही साल पहले आजाद हुए आयरलैंड गणराज्य ने समलैंगिक विवाह को वैध बनाने के लिए मतदान किया और बहुमत के आधार पर समलैंगिक वैध बनाने वाला पहला देश बना।

1915 Italy declares war on Austria-Hungary in World War I. The Entente Powers or the Allies were the countries at war with the Central Powers during World War I. The members of the Triple Entente were the French Republic, the British Empire, and the Russian Empire.

1930 Amy Johnson flew alone to Australia from London.
