1931 भारत के प्रसिद्ध व्यंग्यकार, पत्रकार, कवि, फिल्म संवाद लेखक, संपादक शरद जोशी का जन्म उज्जैन, मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ।

1960 रुस्तम-ए-जमां के नाम से दुनिया भर में प्रसिद्ध भारतीय पहलवान गामा (अंग्रेजी में द ग्रेट गामा) का निधन हुआ। गामा पहलवान का वास्तविक नाम गुलाम मोहम्मद बक्श बट्ट था। उनकी पहलवानी का लोहा दुनिया ने माना इसलिए वे रुस्तम-ए-जमां (दुनिया का रुस्तम) कहा गया। 1960 में इसी दिन मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेता मोहनलाल विश्वनाथ नायर का जन्म हुआ।

1961 अंतरराष्ट्रीय ख्यातिप्राप्त जाने माने भारतीय अंग्रेजी इतिहासकार संजय सुब्रमण्यम का जन्म हुआ।

1979 प्रख्यात गाँधीवादी सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और गांधी जीवन शैली की कट्टर समर्थक जानकी देवी बजाज का निधन हुआ।

1970 सोवियत संघ ने परमाणु परीक्षण (न्यूक्लियर टेस्ट) किया।

1971 मशहूर फिल्म निर्देशक,,सिने पटकथाकार आदित्य चोपड़ा का जन्म हुआ।

1975 41.6 किलोमीटर लंबी फरक्का फीडर नहर को औपचारिक तौर पर खोला गया।

1991 लिट्टे (श्रीलंका के विद्रोहियों का संगठन लिबरेशन टाइगर्स आॅफ तमिल इलम) उग्रवादियों ने भारत के प्रधानमंत्री रहे राजीव गांधी की हत्या कर दी। श्रीलंका में शांति सेना भेजने से नाराज तमिल विद्रोहियों ने तमिलनाडु के श्रीपेरम्बदूर में राजीव पर आत्मघाती हमला किया। लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए प्रचार कर रहे राजीव गांधी के पास एक महिला फूलों का हार लेकर पहुंची और उनके बहुत करीब जाकर अपने शरीर को बम से उड़ा दिया। धमाका इतना जबरदस्त था कि उसकी चपेट में आने वाले ज्यादातर लोगों के मौके पर ही परखच्चे उड़ गए। इससे पहले राजीव गांधी की श्रीलंका यात्रा के दौरान सैनिकों की परेड के समय राजीव पर एक सैनिक ने बंदूक की बट यानी हत्थे से हमला किया था। राजीव गांधी ने प्रधानमंत्री रहते भारत को 21वीं सदी में ले जाने का नारा दिया था। उन्होंने भारत की बेहतरी के लिए तकनीकी का अधिकाधिक इस्तेमाल करने पर जोर दिया था।

2008 भारतीय स्टेट बैंक ने कृषि कर्ज पर रोक लगाने विषयक अपने सर्कुलर को तत्काल प्रभाव से वापस किया। रिजर्ब बैंक ने सेंचुरियन बैंक ऑफ पंजाब के एचडीएफसी बैंक में विलय प्रस्वाव को मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की पहल पर 15 देशों की वायुसेनाओं के 90 अधिकारियों का एक साझा टेबल अभ्यास हैदराबाद में प्रारंभ हुआ। इसी दिन नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता भौतिक विज्ञानी विलिस ई लैंक का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन मलेशिया के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री महातिर मोहम्मद के पुत्र दातुक मोखजानी महातिर ने सत्तारुढ़ दल यूएमएनओ से इस्तीफा दिया।

2010 दुबई से मंगलौर आ रहे एयर इंडिया के विमान आईएक्स-182 के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो जाने से 166 में से 158 यात्री मारे गए। 2010 में इसी दिन दार्जिलिंग में अखिल भारतीय गोरखा लीग के अध्यक्ष मदन तमांग की हत्या कर दी गई। 2010 में इसी दिन उड़ीसा तट पर बंगाल की खाड़ी में भारतीय सेना के जंगी जहाज रणवीर से भारतीय नौसेना ने सुपरसोनिक ब्रह्मोस क्रूज मिसाइल के उर्ध्वाधर प्रक्षेपण संस्करण का सफलतापूर्वक परीक्षण किया।

2014 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रीय सितंबर 11 संग्रहालय जनता के लिए खोला गया, न्यूयार्क स्थित विश्व व्यापार केंद्र की विशाल इमारत 2001 में आतंकवादी समूह अल-कायदा द्वारा 9/11 के हमलों में ध्वस्त की गई बताई गई।

2020 पहली बार इंटरनेशनल टी डे मनाया गया, तब से अंतर्राष्ट्रीय चाय दिवस 21 मई को मनाया जा रहा है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय चाय दिवस को वर्ष 2005 से मनाया जाता आ रहा है. पहले चाय उत्पादक इस दिन को 15 दिसंबर को मनाते थे. लेकिन वर्ष 2015 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के खाद्य एवं कृषि संगठन के माध्यम से आधिकारिक तौर पर इंटरनेशनल टी डे मनाने का प्रस्ताव संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ में रखा गया. जिसको 21 दिसंबर 2019 को मान्यता दी गयी और 21 मई को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय चाय दिवस घोषित कर दिया गया. जिसके बाद 21 मई 2020 में पहली बार इंटरनेशनल टी डे मनाया गया, तब से अंतर्राष्ट्रीय चाय दिवस 21 मई को मनाया जा रहा है। इस मनाने का उद्देश्य चाय के विविध पहलुओं पर जनता और नीति निर्माताओं का ध्यान आकर्षित करना है। इसी दिन 2020 में दशक के सर्वाधिक खतरनाक समुद्री तूफान अम्फान के कारण पश्चिम बंगाल में 77 लोगों की मौत हुई और भारी नुकसान हुआ।
