1914 भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के दसवें गवर्नर एस. जगन्नाथन का जन्म हुआ।

1922 नार्वे के विश्व विख्यात मनोचिकित्सक जर्डा बोयेसन का जन्म हुआ।

1933 भारत के बारहवें प्रधानमंत्री हरदनहल्ली डोड्डेगौड़ा देवगौड़ा का जन्म हुआ।

1947 राॅयल शैक्सपियर कंपनी के सदस्य, विख्यात ब्रिटिश - आॅस्ट्रेलियाई फिल्म अभिनेता ह्यूग कियास बायरने का जन्म श्रीनगर में हुआ।

1950 उत्तर एटलांटिक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर करने के एक साल बाद विश्व के 12 देशों ने अमरीका और यूरोप की रक्षा के लिए एक स्थाई संगठन पर सहमति दी। यह संगठन अब नाटो के नाम से जाना जाता है।

1965 इजरायली जासूस एली कोहेन को सीरिया की राजधानी दमिश्क में फांसी दी गई।

1966 प्रख्यात भारतीय वनस्पति विज्ञानी पंचानन माहेश्वरी का निधन हुआ।

1970 रेखा के नाम से सुपरिचित जानी मानी दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल सुमति जोसेफाइन का जन्म हुआ।

1974 भारत ने राजस्थान के पोखरण में अपना पहला भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किया था। इस परीक्षण को स्माइलिंग बुद्धा का नाम दिया गया था। भारत ने यह करके दुनिया को हत्प्रभ कर दिया था, क्योंकि संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद के पांच स्थायी सदस्य देशों के अलावा किसी और देश ने पहली बार परमाणु परीक्षण करने का साहस किया था। इस परीक्षण की प्रस्तावना वर्ष 1972 में लिखी गई, जब प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी ने भाभा परमाणु अनुसंधान केंद्र बीएआरसी का दौरा किया और वहां के वैज्ञानिकों को परमाणु परीक्षण के लिए संयंत्र बनाने की मंजूरी दी।

1969 बहुचर्चित कारोबारी (कांग्रेस महासचिव प्रियंका गांधी के पति) राबर्ट वाड्रा का जन्म मुरादाबाद में हुआ।

1983 संग्रहालयों की विशेषता और उनके महत्व पर दुनिया को प्रेरित करने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय दिवस के रूप में मनाने का निर्णय किया। इसका उद्देश्य आम जनता में संग्रहालयों के प्रति जागरुकता फैलाना और उन्हें संग्रहालयों में जाकर अपने इतिहास को जानने के प्रति जागरुक बनाना है।

1988 सोनाली कुलकर्णी के नाम से सुपरिचित, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल सोनाली बेनोदेकर का जन्म हुआ।

1991 मलयालम सिनेमा और टेलीविजन की लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल दिव्य प्रभा का जन्म हुआ।

1991 सत्ताइस वर्षीय युवा ब्रिटिश महिला हेलेन शर्मन ने अंतरिक्ष के लिए उड़ान भरी। हेलेन ब्रिटेन की पहली अंतरिक्ष यात्री भी बनी। हेलेन ने लंदन के बर्कबेक कॉलेज से केमिस्ट्री की पढ़ाई की थी। इसके बाद वे एक चॉकलेट फैक्ट्री में फूड केमिस्ट का काम करने लगीं। एक दिन काम के बाद वो घर जा रही थीं, तभी रेडियो पर उन्होंने एक विज्ञापन सुना, एस्ट्रोनॉट चाहिए, कोई अनुभव जरूरी नहीं। हेलेन ने आवेदन भेज दिया और कुछ दिन बाद पता चला कि 13 हजार लोगों में से वे चुनी गईं। हेलेन को अपनी यात्रा से पहले 18 महीने के कठिन प्रशिक्षण से गुजरना पड़ा। इनमें शारीरिक, मानसिक और भाषाई स्तर पर उनकी तैयारियां शामिल थीं। इस मिशन के दौरान हेलेन ने स्पेस स्टेशन में मेडिकल और एग्रीकल्चर टेस्ट किए। 7 दिन, 21 घंटे और 13 मिनट अंतरिक्ष में बिताकर हेलेन 26 मई को धरती पर लौट आईं।

1991 सोमालीलैंड ने खुद को स्वतंत्र राज्य घोषित किया हालांकि अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर किसी देश या संगठन ने उसे मान्यता और समर्थन नहीं दिया।

1994 संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने 1995 संयुक्त राष्ट्र सहिष्णुता वर्ष के रूप में मनाने का निर्णय लिया, इसी दिन गाजा पट्टी क्षेत्र से अंतिम इस्रायली सैनिक टुकड़ी हटाये जाने के साथ क्षेत्र पर फिलिस्तीनी स्वायत्तशासी शासन पूरी तरह लागू हुआ।

1995 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड लोकप्रिय मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल प्रज्ञा मार्टिन का जन्म कोच्चि, केरल में हुआ।

1998 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल शिवांगी जोशी का जन्म पुणे में हुआ। 

2006 नेपाल नरेश ज्ञानेंद्र की शक्तियां कम की गईं और उन्हें आयकर के दायरे में लाया गया।

2007 सोवियत संघ से अलग हो चुके कजाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति नूर सुल्तान नजरवायेव ने अपना कार्यकाल असीमित अवधि के लिए बढ़वा लिया।

2008 प्रख्यात फिल्मी पार्श्व गायक नितिन मुकेश को मध्य प्रदेश सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय लता मंगेशकर अलंकरण से सम्मानित किया। 2008 में इसी दिन भारतीय मूल की लेखिका इंद्रा सिन्हा को उनकी किताब एनिमल पीपुल के लिए कामनवेल्थ सम्मान प्रदान किया गया।

2009 श्रीलंका सरकार ने 25 साल से तमिल विद्रोहियों के साथ हो रहे युद्ध के खत्म होने का एलान किया। सेना ने देश के उत्तरी हिस्से पर कब्जा किया और लिट्टे प्रमुख वेलुपिल्लई प्रभाकरन सहित हजारों तमिलों को मार डाला।

2010 राजस्थान के प्रमुख प्राइवेट बैंक, बैंक ऑफ राजस्थान का आईसीआईसीआई बैंक में विलय होना तय हुआ।

2012 प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक गुरु जय गुरुदेव का निधन हुआ। 2012 में इसी दिन दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी सोशल नेटवर्किंग कंपनी फेसबुक इंक ने अमेरिकी शेयर बाजार नास्डैक में ट्रेडिंग करना शुरू किया।

2017 गुजरे जमाने की हिन्दी फिल्मों की शानदार चरित्र अभिनेत्री रीमा लागू का निधन हुआ।

1974 India conducted its first underground nuclear test at Pokhran in Rajasthan. This test was named Smiling Buddha. The prelude to this test was written in the year 1972, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) and approved the scientists there to build a plant for nuclear testing.

1991 Helen Sherman, a twenty-seven-year-old young British woman, flew into space. Helen also became Britain's first astronaut. Helen studied chemistry from Birkbeck College, London. After this she started working as a food chemist in a chocolate factory. One day after work she was going home when she heard an ad on the radio, Astronaut wanted, no experience required. Helen sent the application and a few days later came to know that she was selected out of 13,000 people. Helen had to undergo 18 months of grueling training before her journey. These included their preparations at the physical, mental and linguistic levels. During this mission, Helen did medical and agricultural tests in the space station. Helen returned to Earth on 26 May after spending 7 days, 21 hours and 13 minutes in space.
