28 ईसा पूर्व में हान के राजवंश चेंग के शासनकाल के दौरान हान वंश के खगोलविदों ने एक सनस्पॉट का चिन्हित किया चीन में सबसे पहले दिनांकित सनस्पॉट टिप्पणियों में से एक है।

1291 स्कॉटिश धनिकों ने इंग्लैंड के एडवर्ड प्रथम के अधिकार को मान्यता दी जिसके बाद उसे वास्तव में राजा का दर्जा मिला और शासन चलाने की शक्तियां प्राप्त हुईं।

1427 स्विट्जरलैंड के बर्न नगर से यहूदियों को निष्कासित किया गया।

1497 इतालवी व्यापारी, खोजी, नाविक अमेरिगो वेस्पुची ने नई दुनिया की खोज के लिए अपनी पहली यात्रा के लिए प्रस्थान किया। अमेरिका का नामकरण इन्हीं के नाम पर हुआ है।

1503 इटली निवासी खोजकर्ता क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस ने अपनी अमेरिका की चौथी यात्रा में कायमान द्वीप की खोज की। यह द्वीप समूह ब्रिटेन के अधीन है। मालूम हो कि नवंबर 1492 में कोलंबस ने अमेरिका की खोज की।

1526 पानीपत की पहली लड़ाई में जीत के बाद बाबर ने तब भारत की राजधानी अकबराबाद (आगरा) में प्रवेश किया।

1534 फ्रांसीसी खोजी यात्री, नाविक जैक्स कॉर्टियर न्यूफाउलैंड पहुँचा।

1655 ब्रिटेन की सेना ने जमैका पर कब्जा किया।

1661 मुगल बादशाह बहादुर शाह प्रथम के बेटे (जो बाद में बादशाह हुए) जहांदार शाह का जन्म दकन में हुआ। यह 1712 से 1713 तक शासक हुए। 1713 में 12 फरवरी को इनका इंतकाल हो गया।

1671 1740 से 1756 तक बंगाल के नवाब रहे अलीवर्दी खान का जन्म डेक्कन में हुआ।

1768 इंग्लैंड के सम्राट किंग जॉर्ज तृतीय के संबंध में एक आलोचनात्मक लेख लिखने पर जॉन विलक्स को जेल में डाल दिया गया, इस कार्रवाई से लंदन में दंगे भड़क उठे।

1774 लुई 15वें की मौत के बाद लुई 16वां फ्रांस का राजा बना।

1796 फ्रांसीसी शासक नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट ने लोदी ब्रिज के युद्ध में आस्ट्रिया को हराया।

1810 दुनिया का पहला वाणिज्यिक बचत बैंक रेव. हेनरी डंकन ने स्कॉटलैंड के रूथवेल में खोला।

1824 इंग्लैंड, लंदन स्थित नेशनल गैलरी को आम लोगों के लिए खोला गया।

1834 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष हुए अल्फ्रेड बेब का जन्म हुआ।

1855 बंगाल के प्रमुख योगी, आध्यात्मिक गुरु और ज्योतिषी श्री युक्तेश्वर गिरि यानी प्रियनाथ कड़ार का जन्म सेरामपुर में हुआ।

1857 अंग्रेजी हुकूमत के खिलाफ पहले स्वतंत्रता संग्राम की शुरुआत। मेरठ की तीनों रेजिमेंट के सिपाहियों ने बगावत का झंडा उठाकर दिल्ली कूच कर दिया। इसमें महलिाओं ने भी सहयोग दिया। ब्रिटिश अधिकारियों ने इसे दबाने के लिए अपनी पूरी ताकत झौंक दी। इसमें 50 अंग्रेज सिपाहियों की मौत हुई।

1898 जमना लाल बजाज पुरस्कार से सम्मानित प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एवं राजनीतिज्ञ हुए विचित्र नारायण शर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1905 बांग्ला और हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध गायक, संगीतकार और अभिनेता पंकज मलिक का जन्म हुआ।

1908 प्रथम मदर्स डे 10 मई, 1908 को फिलाडेल्फिया, अमेरिका में मनाया गया था। अब यह दुनिया भर में मई के दूसरे रविवार को मनाया जाता है, इसे अन्ना जार्विस ने स्थापित किया।

1914 बंबई के विख्यात फिल्मकार और राजश्री प्रोडक्शन के संस्थापक ताराचंद बड़जात्या का जन्म कुचामन सिटी राजस्थान में हुआ।

1916 नीदरलैंड की राजधानी एम्स्टरडम में ऐतिहासिक शिप पोर्ट संग्रहालय खोला गया।

1918 भारत की गुप्तचर संस्था रॉ (रिसर्च एंड एनालिसिस विंग) के संस्थापक और विख्यात जासूस रामेश्वर नाथ काव का जन्म हुआ।

1927 राजनीतिक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता, लेखिका और इटली में भारत की राजदूत रही नयनतारा सहगल का जन्म हुआ।

1929 प्रसिद्ध विधिवेत्ता एवं संविधान विशेषज्ञ और पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित सुभाष काश्यप का जन्म हुआ।

1934 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में राजस्व अधिनियम जारी किया गया।

1936 प्रसिद्ध चिकित्सक, प्रसिद्ध राष्ट्रवादी मुस्लिम नेता एवं स्वतंत्रता सेनानी मुख्तार अहमद अंसारी का निधन हुआ।

1940 जर्मनी ने बेल्जियम, नीदरलैंड और लक्जमबर्ग पर आक्रमण किया। इसी दिन ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री नेविल चेम्बरलेन ने इस्तीफा दिया तथा अपने उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में विंस्टन चर्चिल की सिफारिश की।

1945 रूसी सेना ने चेकोस्लोवाकिया गणराज्य की राजधानी प्राग पर कब्जा किया।

1951 भारतीय सेना के प्रमुख अधिकारी रहे बाद में भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता और मोदी सरकार में मंत्री जनरल विजय कुमार सिंह यानी वी. के. सिंह का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1954 संविधान निर्माता डाॅ. भीमराव अंबेडकर के पौत्र प्रकाश यशवंत राव अंबेडकर का जन्म हुआ। वे डाॅ. अंबेडकर के पुत्र यशवंत के बेटे हैं, लेखक, सामाजिक और राजनैतिक कार्यकर्ता तथा अधिवकता हैं। वे बहुजन वंचित अघाड़ी राजनीतिक दल के प्रमुख हैं।

1959 सोवियत सेना अफगानिस्तान पहुंची।

1967 बिहार के प्रमुख मुस्लिम राजनेता रहे, जनता दल के सदस्य, लोकसभा सदस्य मोहम्मद शहाबुद्दीन का जन्म बिहार के सीवान में हुआ। एक हत्या मामले में उम्र कैद की सजा काट रहे शहाबुद्दीन की 1 मई 2021 को मौत हो गई। इसी दिन यानी 10 मई 1967 को मशहूर रॉक बैंड रोलिंग स्टोन्स के दो सदस्यों को मादक पदार्थों से जुड़े एक मामले में अदालत में पेश होना पड़ा।

1979 माइक्रोनेशिया के फेडरेटेड स्टेट्स ने अपनी संवैधानिक सरकार का गठित की। 1979 से पहले यह अमेरिकी प्रशासन के तहत प्रशांत द्वीप समूह के ट्रस्ट टेरिटरी का एक हिस्सा था और 3 नवंबर, 1986 को एक स्वतंत्र राज्य बना।

1980 लंदन में ईरानी दूतावास को ब्रिटिश पुलिस ने खूंख्वार कब्जाधारकों से मुक्त कराया।

1981 दक्षिण भारत की प्रमुख फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल नमिता का जन्म सूरत, गुजरात में हुआ।

1981 पहली बार बॉम्बे (वर्तमान में मुंबई) रात में क्रिकेट मैच खेला गया। इसी दिन जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बाॅलीवुड फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल हर्षिता भट्ट का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1986 भारत के प्रसिद्ध शतरंज खिलाड़ी, सबसे कम उम्र में ग्रैंड मास्टर बनने वाले पेंटाला हरिकृष्णा का जन्म गुंटूर, आंध्र प्रदेश में हुआ।

1987 नोबेल पुरस्कार प्राप्त आस्कर एरियास ने दुबारा कोस्टारिका के राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ ग्रहण की।

1993 संतोष यादव दुनिया के सबसे ऊँचे पर्वत शिखर एवरेस्ट पर दो बार पहुंचने वाली विश्व की पहली महिला पर्वतारोही बनी। इसी दिन जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड तेलुगू फिल्म अभिनेत्री और टेलीविजन शो प्रस्तोता और माॅडल श्रीमुखी का जन्म निजामाबाद तेलंगाना में हुआ।

1994 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में नेल्सन मंडेला ने प्रिटोरिया में ऐतिहासिक समारोह में राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ ग्रहण की। अश्वेतों के अधिकारों के लिए वे 27 जेल में रहने के बाद रिहा हुए और उनकी अफ्रीकन नेशनल पार्टी ने जीत हासिल की।

1995 दक्षिण अफ्रीका की सोने की एक खान में लिफ्ट पर ट्रेन गिरने से 104 मजदूरों की मौत हुई।

1999 टीबी के इलाज मंे अहम पेंसिलन के विकास में महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाने वाले सर एडवर्ड इब्राहम की मृत्यु हुई।

2001 घाना में आयोजित फुटबॉल मैच के दौरान भगदड़ मचने से 120 से अधिक दर्शकों की मौत हुई।

2002 फिल्म जगत् के मशहूर उर्दू शायर कैफी आजमी का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका की गुप्तचर एजेंसी फेडरल ब्यूरो ऑफ इन्वेस्टिगेशन के पूर्व एजेंट रॉबर्ट फिलिप हेंसन को अमेरिकी रहस्य और हीरे बेचने के लिए बिना किसी पैरोल के 15 आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई गई। रॉबर्ट फिलिप हेंसन 1979 से 2001 तक संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के खिलाफ सोवियत संघ और बाद में रूसी खुफिया सेवाओं के लिए जासूसी करता रहा था, ऐसा उस पर अभियोग लगा था।

2003 मोजाम्बिक के राष्ट्रपति अल्बर्टो फिसानों 6 दिवसीय यात्रा पर भारत पहुँचे।

2005 लाहौर-अमृतसर बस सेवा शुरू करने पर भारत और पाकिस्तान सहमत हुए।

2007 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम संगठन आईएलओ ने कार्य स्थलों पर होने वाले भेदभाव पर रिपोर्ट जारी की।

2008 लेबनान में ईरान समर्थित विद्रोही संगठन हिजबुल्ला ने राजधानी बेरुत के मुस्लिम इलाके पर कब्जा करने का दावा किया।

2011 भारत के उच्चतम न्यायालय ने ऑनर किलिंग की साजिश रचने वालों और हत्यारों के लिए मृत्युदंड की सिफारिश की। इसे बर्बर कृत्य करार दिया।

2012 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रेड क्रॉस समिति ने 60 वर्षीय स्टाफ सदस्य खलील रसजेद डेल की हत्या के खिलाफ पाकिस्तान में सभी मानवीय सेवा कार्य निलंबित कर दिए। खलील रसजेद डेल की हत्या बलूचिस्तान में चार महीने पहले अपहरण के बाद कर दी गई थी। 2012 में इसी दिन सीरिया की राजधानी दमिश्क में हुए 2 बम धमाकों में 55 लोगों की मौत और 370 अन्य घायल हुए।

2013 न्यूयाॅर्क स्थित वन वर्ल्ड ट्रेड सेंटर पश्चिमी गोलार्ध की सबसे ऊंची इमारत बनी। 

2014 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में आम चुनाव में अफ्रीकन नेशनल कांग्रेस की फिर जीत हुई।

1918 Rameshwar Nath Kao, founder of India's intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) and noted spy, was born.

1927 Nayantara Sahgal, politician, social worker, writer and India's ambassador to Italy, was born.

1929 Famous jurist and constitutional expert and Padma Bhushan awardee Subhash Kashyap was born.

1934 The Revenue Act was issued in the United States.

1936 Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, noted physician, noted nationalist Muslim leader and freedom fighter, passed away.

1940 Germany invades Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. On the same day, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain resigned and recommended Winston Churchill as his successor.

1959 Soviet army reached Afghanistan.

1967 Mohammad Shahabuddin, prominent Muslim politician of Bihar, member of Janata Dal, Lok Sabha member, was born in Siwan, Bihar. Shahabuddin, who was serving life sentence in a murder case, died on 1 May 2021. On the same day i.e. May 10, 1967, two members of the famous rock band Rolling Stones had to appear in court in a drug-related case.

1979 The Federated States of Micronesia formed its constitutional government. Prior to 1979 it was a part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands under US administration and became an independent state on November 3, 1986.

1980 The Iranian embassy in London is freed from the dreaded occupiers by British police.

1981 Namita, leading film actress and model of South India, was born in Surat, Gujarat.

1981 Night cricket match was played for the first time in Bombay (now Mumbai). On this day, Harshita Bhatt, a well-known beautiful, bold Bollywood film and television actress and model, was born in Bombay.

1986 Pantala Harikrishna, youngest Indian chess player to become Grand Master, was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh

1987 Oscar Arias, who received the Nobel Prize, was sworn in as the President of Costa Rica again.

1993 Santosh Yadav became the world's first woman mountaineer to reach the world's highest mountain peak Everest twice. On this day the well-known beautiful, bold Telugu film actress and television show presenter and model Sreemukhi was born in Nizamabad, Telangana.

1994 Nelson Mandela is sworn in as President of South Africa in a historic ceremony in Pretoria. He was released after 27 years in prison for the rights of blacks, and his African National Party won.
