1776 प्रथम अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज वाशिंगटन को हार्वर्ड कॉलेज ने एल.एल.डी की मानद डिग्री प्रदान की।

1783 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी चिंतक, निबंधकार, कथाकार, जीवनीकार, इतिहासकार और राजनयिक वाशिंगटन इर्विंग का जन्म मैनहट्टन में हुआ। अमरीका के साहित्य में इनका ऊँचा स्थान है। बचपन से ही इन्होंने अपने पिता विलियम इर्विग के निजी पुस्तकालय में ज्ञानार्जन किया। इनका साहित्य काफी लोकप्रिय हुआ। इसी दिन स्वीडन और अमेरिका ने एमिटी एंड कॉमर्स की एक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1856 यूनान के रोडोस द्वीप समूह में चर्च में हुए बम विस्फोट में करीब 4000 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1896 इटली के खेल समाचार पत्र ला गैजेटा डेल्लो का पहला अंक प्रकाशित हुआ।

1903 भारत की प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकत्री, लेखिका और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी कमलादेवी चट्टोपाध्याय का जन्म कर्नाटक के मैंगलोर जिले में हुआ।

1910 जुआन वर्गास ने 114 वर्ष अलामो की लड़ाई का अनुभव और जीवन का विवरण लिखा।

1911 न्यूजीलैंड में 14 से 20 वर्ष के सभी लड़कों के लिए ड्राफ्ट पंजीकरण अनिवार्य हुआ।

1914 भारतीय सेना के सर्वोच्च सैन्य अधिकारी भारत के प्रथम फील्ड मार्शल एसएचएफजे मानेकशॉ का जन्म अमृतसर में जन्म हुआ। चार दशक के अपने सैन्य करियर में उन्होंने पांच लड़ाइयां लड़ीं। दूसरे विश्व युद्ध में ब्रिटिश इंडियन आर्मी में अपनी सेवाएं देने वाले माणेकशॉ ने 1971 में पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ लड़ाई में भारत को जीत दिलाई जिसमें पाकिस्तान की सेना ने आत्मसमर्पण किया और इससे बांग्लादेश का जन्म हुआ।

1918 प्रसिद्ध यूक्रेनी, सोवियत लेखक ओलेस गोनचार लोमिव्का, यूक्रेन में हुआ। गोनचार ने सोवियत समाज में यूक्रेनी संस्कृति के पुनः स्थापन के लिये संघर्ष भी किया। गोनचार के उपन्यासों में यूक्रेन, सोवियत समाज की गतिविधियों और द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध का वर्णन भी है।

1922 महान सोवियत वामपंथी नेता कॉमरेड जोसेफ स्टालिन को सोवियत कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की केंद्रीय समिति का महासचिव नियुक्त किया गया। इसी दिन विख्यात अमेरिकी गायिका, अभिनेत्री और सामाजिक कार्यकत्री डोरिस डे का जन्म हुआ।

1924 अमेरिका के विश्व विख्यात फिल्म अभिनेता मर्लिन ब्रांडो का जन्म ओमाहा, नेब्रास्का में हुआ।

1929 शिमला में निर्मल वर्मा का जन्म हुआ। वर्मा हिंदी के आधुनिक कथाकार और पत्रकार थे। निर्मल वर्मा को मूर्तिदेवी पुरस्कार, साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार उत्तर प्रदेश हिंदी संस्थान पुरस्कार और ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

1931 प्रसिद्ध महिला साहित्यकार मन्नू भंडारी का जन्म हुआ। यह प्रमुख हिंदी लेखक और हंस पत्रिका के संपादक - प्रकाशक राजेंद्र यादव की पत्नी रहीं।

1933 विश्व की सबसे ऊंची चोटी माउंट एवरेस्ट के ऊपर से पहली बार विमान ने उड़ान भरी।

1942 जर्मन पनडुब्बी यू-702 उत्तर समुद्र में खो गयी।

1949 अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन, फ्रांस और कनाडा ने उत्तरी अटलांटिक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1954 प्रसिद्ध राजनेता और फिजीशियन डॉ. के. कृष्णास्वामी का जन्म हुआ।

1955 हरिहरन के नाम से मशहूर फिल्मी पाश्र्व, भजन और ग़ज़ल गायक हरिहरन अनंथा सुब्रमणी का जन्म दादर, बंबई में हुआ।

1962 पं. जवाहरलाल नेहरू पुनः प्रधानमंत्री चुने गये। इसी दिन भारत की मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेत्री जया प्रदा का जन्म हुआ। यह समाजवादी पार्टी की कई बार उत्तर प्रदेश के रामपुर से लोकसभा सदस्य चुनी गईं।

1968 अमेरिकन फिल्म प्लैनेट ऑफ द एपस थिएटरों में रिलीज हुई।

1973 अमेरिका के मैनहट्टन की साइडवॉक से पहला पब्लिक मोबाइल टेलीफोन कॉल किया गया। मोटोरोला के मार्टिन कूपर ने बेल लैब्स के जोएल एंजेल को फोन लगाया। कूपर को आज के मोबाइल फोन का जनक कहा जाता है। उस समय कूपर मोटरोला कंपनी के लिए काम करते थे। अमेरिका में कार फोन का इस्तेमाल तो 1930 से हो रहा था, लेकिन हैंडहेल्ड फोन का इस्तेमाल तीन अप्रैल को पहली बार कूपर ने किया।

1973 दक्षिण भारत के जाने माने फिल्म डांस कोरियोग्राफर, निर्माता, निर्देशक और अभिनेता प्रभु देवा का जन्म हुआ।

1981 अमेरिका के सैन फ्रांसिस्को के ब्रुक्स हाल में ओसबोर्न कंप्यूटर कॉरपोरेशन के एडम ओसबोर्न द्वारा तैयार पहले पोर्टेबल कंप्यूटर का नमूना पेश किया गया। इसका वजन करीब 24 पाउंड था।

1982 विश्व प्रसिद्ध कनाडाई अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल तथा टेलीविजन हस्ती कोबी स्मुल्डर्स का जन्म वेंकूवर में हुआ।

1986 विख्यात अमेरिकी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल अमांडा लौरा बायनेस का जन्म थाउजैंड ओक, कैलीफोर्निया में हुआ।

1987 अटलांटिक सिटी के न्यू जर्सी में शोबोट कैसीनो होटल की स्थापना की गयी। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म और टेलीविजन अभिनेता विक्रांत मैस्सी का जन्म हुआ। 1987 में इसी दिन प्रसिद्ध हिंदी अनुवादक, साहित्यकार, कवि, पत्रकार और संपादक सच्चिदानंद हीरानंद वात्स्यायन अज्ञेय का नई दिल्ली में निधन हुआ। इन्होंने दिल्ली में एक पेड़ पर अपने रहने को घर बनाया हुआ था।

1999 भारत ने अपने पहले वैश्विक दूरसंचार उपग्रह इनसैट 1ई का प्रक्षेपण किया।

2001 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति विलियम जेफरसन क्लिंटन या बिल क्लिंटन भारत यात्रा पर पहुँचे।

2002 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ की जनमत संग्रह की योजना को मंत्रिमंडल की मंजूरी मिली।

2006 नेपाल में माओवादियों ने संघर्षविराम की घोषणा की।

2017 उत्तराखंड की राजधानी देहरादून के वन अनुसंधान संस्थान में 19वां राष्ट्रमंडल वानिकी सम्मेलन शुरू हुआ। ब्रिटेन के अधीन रहे तमाम देश राष्ट्रमंडल के सदस्य हैं। 2017 में इसी दिन हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय परंपरा की प्रमुख गायिका किशोरी अमोनकर का निधन हुआ।

2021 गीता प्रेस गोरखपुर के प्रमुख रहे हिंदुत्ववादी विचारक, लेखक राधेश्याम खेमका का निधन हुआ।
