1654 यहूदियों को ब्राजील से निकाला गया।

1748 मुगल सल्तनत के 14वें बादशाह मुहम्मदशाह रौशन अख्तर का इंतकाल हुआ।

1755 रूस का पहला विश्वविद्यालय मॉस्को में खोला गया।

1777 अमेरिकन क्रांतिकारी युद्ध के दौर में 16 वर्षीय सिबिल लुडिंगटन ने अपने पिता के निर्देश पर अपने गुरिल्लाओं को यह सूचना देने के लिए एक रात में चालीस मील का सफर तय किया कि ब्रिटिश फौज डैनबरी, कनेक्टिकट पर हमला करने की योजना बना चुकी है।

1828 यूनान की आजादी के समर्थन में रूस ने की तुर्की के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1841 बॉम्बे गैजेट अखबार पहली बार रेशम के कपड़े पर प्रकाशित किया गया। 

1864 स्वामी दयानंद सरस्वती के शिष्य तथा आर्य समाज के नेता पंडित गुरुदत्त विद्यार्थी का जन्म हुआ।

1876 केरल की विख्यात इसाई संत हुईं मरियम थ्रेसिया चिरामेल का जन्म हुआ।

1892 विभिन्न छोटी रियासतों को एक कर विशाल उड़ीसा राज्य बनाने वाले क्रुश्ना चंद्र गजपति का जन्म हुआ। वे उड़ीसा के पहले प्रधानमंत्री भी हुए।

1903 महात्मा गांधी ने दक्षिण अफ्रीका में वकालत शुरू की और वहां ब्रिटिश इंडियन एसोसिएशन की स्थापना की।

1908 सर्व मित्र सीकरी का जन्म कराची (अब पाकिस्तान में) में हुआ। वे भारत के 13वें प्रधान न्यायाधीश हुए। इससे पहले उन्होंने लाहौर हाईकोर्ट में एटोर्नी जनरल के तौर पर काम किया।

1920 विख्यात भारतीय गणितज्ञ श्रीनिवास रामानुजम का निधन हुआ। श्रीनिवास रामानुजन का एक कथन :  गणित के बिना, आप कुछ नहीं कर सकते हो। आप के चारों ओर सब कुछ गणित है। आप के चारों ओर सब कुछ संख्या है।

1924 प्रसिद्ध बांग्ला साहित्यकार नारायण सान्याल का जन्म हुआ।

1926 जर्मनी और रूस ने शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1928 मोम की मूर्तियों के लिये मशहूर मैडम तुसाद प्रदर्शनी लंदन में प्रदर्शित की गयी।

1929 इंग्लैंड से भारत की पहली नॉन-स्टॉप हवाई उड़ान पूरी हो गई।

1932 प्रमुख पाकिस्तानी इस्लामिक विद्वान इसरार अहमद का जन्म हिसार (अब हरियाणा) में हुआ।

1933 गेस्टापो नाजी जर्मनी में आधिकारिक खूंख्वार गुप्त पुलिस बल की स्थापना की गई थी, जिसके जवान हिटलर के आलोचकों को गुप्त रूप से उठाकर यातना ग्रहों में ले जाते थे।

1942 हिंदी फिल्मों के विख्यात हास्य अभिनेता महमूद की बहन मीनू मुमताज का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने 1950 से 1970 के दशकों में नृत्यांगना और चरित्र अभिनेत्री के तौर पर ज्यादा काम किया।

1948 सन 1960 और 1970 के दशकों की मशहूर भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्रियों में से एक मौसमी चटर्जी का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। मौसमी चटर्जी ने हिंदी के साथ बंगाली सिनेमा में भी अपनी अलग पहचान बनाई।

1959 क्यूबा ने पनामा पर आक्रमण किया।

1961 जम्मू और कश्मीर रियासत के आखिरी शासक राजा रहे हरी सिंह का निधन हुआ।

1962 अंतरिक्ष यान रेंजर-4 ने चांद की सतह पर कदम रखा. चांद तक पहुंचने वाला यह पहला अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यान था. तकनीकी गड़बड़ी के कारण इसका संपर्क पृथ्वी से टूट गया और यह चांद की सतह के चित्र नहीं भेज सका.

1970 विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा संगठन अस्तित्व में आया और इसका चार्टर लागू हुआ। विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा दिवस हर साल 26 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है। यह दिन बौद्धिक संपदा के महत्व और उद्देश्यों को उजागर करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा दिवस नवाचार और रचनात्मकता को बढ़ावा देने में बौद्धिक संपदा अधिकारों तथा पेटेंट, ट्रेडमार्क, औद्योगिक डिजाइन, कॉपीराइट की भूमिका के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने का दिन है। बौद्धिक संपदा (आईपी) दिमाग की रचनाओं से संबंधित है, जैसे आविष्कार, साहित्यिक और कलात्मक कार्य, डिजाइन और व्यापार में उपयोग किए जाने वाले प्रतीक, नाम और चित्र आदि। विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा संगठन, संयुक्त राष्ट्र (यूनाइटेड नेशंस) की 15 विशेष एजेंसियों में से एक है। भारत भी विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा संगठन का सदस्य है। विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा संगठन की स्थापना 14 जुलाई 1967 को हुई थी, इसका मुख्यालय जिनेवा, स्विट्जरलैंड में है। 26 अप्रैल को उस दिन के रूप में चुना गया था, जिस दिन विश्व बौद्धिक संपदा संगठन की स्थापना कन्वेंशन 1970 में लागू हुई थी।

1974 माल्टा ने संविधान अंगीकार किया।

1964 तंगांयिका और जंजीबार के विलय के बाद तंजानिया संयुक्त गणराज्य की स्थापना हुई और जूलियस न्येरेरे इसके प्रथम राष्ट्रपति बने.

1975 सिक्किम भारत का 22वां राज्य बना।

1980 स्थितीय खगोल विज्ञान केंद्र कलकत्ता में स्थापित किया गया।

1982 प्रतिष्ठित हिंदी कवि और आलोचक मलयज का निधन हुआ।

1983 विख्यात मलयालम संगीतज्ञ, गिटारिस्ट, गायक और संगीत के क्षेत्र में विविध प्रयोगों के लिए प्रसिद्ध एवं मलयाली राॅक बैंड स्थापित करने वाले रेक्स विजयन का जन्म कोल्लम, केरल में हुआ।

1984 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रोनाल्ड रीगन चीन यात्रा पर राजधानी पेईचिंग पहुंचे।

1986 सोवियत संघ के यूक्रेन प्रांत के चेरनोबिल में परमाणु हादसा हुआ, जिससे बड़ी मात्रा में रेडियोधर्मी विकीरण हुआ। परमाणु आपदाओं से बचाव के बारे में जनजागरूकता के लिए यह दिन चेरनोबिल दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

1987 भारतीय संगीत निर्देशक शंकर रघुवंशी का निधन हुआ। 1987 प्रसिद्ध फिल्म निर्देशक, छायाकार और लेखक नितिन बोस का जन्म हुआ।

1989 बांग्लादेश के मानिकगंज जिले में आए भयंकर तूफान से 1,300 लोग मारे गए। इतिहास का सबसे घातक तूफान माना गया।

1990 वीआरपी मेनन ने लगातार 463 घंटे डिस्को डांस कर विश्व रिकार्ड बनाया।

1993 महाराष्ट्र के औरंगाबाद में बोइंग-737 विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से करीब 60 लोग मारे गये।

1999 नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री तथा नेपाली कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के अध्यक्ष रहे मनमोहन अधिकारी का निधन हुआ।

1999 राष्ट्रपति कोचेरिल रमन नारायणन ने नए चुनाव कराने के लिए संसद भंग की। लोकसभा चुनाव 1999 के बाद अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के नेतृत्व में राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन की सरकार बनी, जिसने 5 साल शासन किया और ऐसा करने वाली पहली गैर-कांग्रेस सरकार हुई।

2004 इराक के नये झंडे को मान्यता मिली।

2005 शंकरन कुट्टी यानी रामकृष्ण संघ के संन्यासी स्वामी रंगनाथानंद का निधन हुआ।

2006 भारत और उजबेकिस्तान ने 6 संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

2007 जापान की सोनी कंपनी ने भारत में वर्ष 2010 तक 2 अरब डॉलर का व्यापार लक्ष्य तय किया।

2008 प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने जम्मू-कश्मीर में बने 390 मेगावाट के दुलहस्ती हाइडल पावर प्रोजेक्ट को देश को समर्पित किया।

2010 बिहार के प्रसिद्ध चिनिया केले की ब्रांडिंग गंगा केले के रूप में करने का बिहार सरकार ने निर्णय लिया।

2020 भारत में कोरोना संक्रमित लोगों की संख्या 26 हजार के पार पहुंची. राज्यों ने कुछ दुकानें खोलने की अनुमति देकर लॉकडाउन की शर्तों में ढील देने की शुरुआत की।
