18 अप्रैल 1917 को महात्मा गांधी ने सत्याग्रह आंदोलन की शुरुआत के लिए बिहार के चंपारण का चयन किया।

18 अप्रैल 1958 को 12 वर्ष से अस्पताल में कैद रखे गये विवादास्पद अमेरिकन कवि एजरा पाउंड को वाशिंगटन डी.सी. के सेंट एलिजाबेथ अस्पताल से रिहा कर दिया।
