1282 सिसिली के लोगों ने नेपल्स के एंग्विन राजा चार्ल्स प्रथम के शासन के खिलाफ विद्रोह शुरू किया, जिससे वेसिकर्स वेस्पर्स युद्ध शुरू हुआ।

1664 सिक्खों के आठवें गुरु हर किशन सिंह का निधन हुआ।

1814 फ्रांस के शासक नेपोलियन बोनापोर्ट को हराने के बाद ब्रिटेन की सेना ने राजधानी पेरिस की ओर प्रस्थान किया।

1822 फ्लोरिडा अमेरिकी गणराज्य में शामिल हुआ।

1842 बेहोशी की दवा के रूप में ईथर का पहली बार इस्तेमाल हुआ। अमेरिकी चिकित्सक क्रॉफोर्ड लॉन्ग सर्जिकल प्रक्रिया में एनेस्थेटिक के रूप में डायथाइल ईथर का उपयोग करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बने।

1853 नीदरलैंड के विश्व प्रसिद्ध डच चित्रकार विन्सेंट विलेम वान गॉग का जन्म ज़ुंडर्ट, नीदरलैंड में हुआ। विन्सेंट वान गॉग मरणोपरांत पश्चिमी कला इतिहास में बहुत प्रसिद्ध और प्रभावशाली व्यक्तित्वों में से एक बन गए। उन्होंने करीब 860 तैल चित्रों सहित 2,100 के करीब कलाकृतियाँ बनाईं, जिनमें से अधिकांश उनके जीवन के अंतिम दो वर्षों की हैं। उनके मरने के बाद उनकी कृतियों की कीमतें लाखों-करोड़ों में हुई जबकि अपने काम के दौरान विन्सेंट घोर अभावों में जिए। उनकी हालत पागलों जैसी हो गई थी।

1856 क्रिमिया युद्ध पेरिस समझौते होने के बाद समाप्त हुआ।

1858 हैमेन एल. लिपमेन ने इरेजर के साथ जुड़ी पेंसिल का पहला पेटेंट पंजीकृत करवाया।

1861 रामकृष्ण मिशन के कर्ता-धर्ता स्वामी योगानंद का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1867 अमेरिका ने 72 लाख डॉलर की रकम अदा कर अलास्का को रूस से खरीदा।

1899 विख्यात भारतीय बांग्ला लेखक, फिल्म पटकथाकार शरदिंदू बंधोपाध्याय का जन्म जौनपुर में हुआ। इसी दिन भारत एवं पाकिस्तान की विभाजन रेखा तैयार करने वाले विख्यात ब्रिटिश कानूनविद, जज ओर वार्विक विश्व विद्यालय के प्रथम कुलपति सीरिल रैडक्लिफ का जन्म ब्रिटेन में हुआ।

1908 प्रख्यात भारतीय अभिनेत्री देविका रानी का जन्म हुआ। देविका 1930 और 1940 के दशक की मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेत्री हुईं। निधन 9 मार्च 1994 को हुआ। 

1909 विख्यात भारतीय महिला साहित्यकार एवं सामाजिक कार्यकत्री ललिताम्बिका अन्तर्जनम का जन्म केरल के कोट्टावट्टम में हुआं ललिताम्बिका ने मलयालम में साहित्य रचना की है। ललिताम्बिका के उपन्यास अग्निसाक्षी पर 1977 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से उन्हें पुरस्कृत किया गया।

1919 महात्मा गांधी ने रॉलेक्ट एक्ट के विरोध की घोषणा की। रॉलेट एक्ट को काला कानून भी कहा जाता है। यह कानून तत्कालीन ब्रिटिश सरकार द्वारा भारत में उभर रहे राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन को कुचलने के लिए बनाया गया था। कानून के तहत ब्रिटिश सरकार को ये अधिकार प्राप्त हो गया था, कि वह किसी भी भारतीय पर अदालत में बिना मुकदमा चलाए, उसे जेल में बंद कर सकती थी। इसके विरोध में महात्मा गांधी ने आंदोलन शुरु किया तो लाखों लोग उनके साथ जुड़ गये। इसी के विरोध में सभा कर रहे हजारों लोगों को घेर कर 13 अप्रैल 1919 को पंजाब के जलियांवाला में गोलियों से भून दिया गया। 1919 में 30 मार्च को ही जर्मनी के डुसेलडॉफ शहर पर बेल्जियम की सेना ने कब्जा किया।

1941 पाकिस्तानी संसद के कानूनविद, संसद के अध्यक्ष और कार्यकारी राष्ट्रपति रहे वसीम सज्जाद का जन्म जालंधर में हुआ।

1942 विख्यात भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीतज्ञ पं. रवि शंकर और अन्नपूर्णा देवी के पुत्र संगीतकार हुए शुभेंद्र शंकर का जन्म हुआ।

1945 सोवियत संघ ने आस्ट्रिया पर आक्रमण किया।

1948 जाने माने कन्नड़, तेलुगू और मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेता टाइगर प्रभाकर का जन्म पुलकेसिंहनगर में हुआ। 

1949 कुल बाइस रियासतों-राजशाहियों को एकीकृत कर राजस्थान राज्य की स्थापना हुई और जयपुर को उसकी राजधानी बनाया गया। इसी दिन मशहूर बंगाली फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सुमित्रा मुखर्जी का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1950 मर्रे हिल ने फोटो ट्रांजिस्टर का अविष्कार किया।

1960 विख्यात भारतीय पर्यावरणवादी अर्थशास्त्री पवन सुखदेव का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1962 जाने माने भाजपा नेता, लोकसभा सदस्य और भाजपा के प्रवक्ता राजीव प्रताप रूड़ी का जन्म पटना में हुआ।

1963 फ्रांस ने अल्जीरिया के इकर क्षेत्र में भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1966 तमिल सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध निर्देशक विक्रमन का जन्म पनबोली में हुआ।

1967 जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता, पटकथा लेखक, निर्माता, निर्देश्क नागेश कुकुनूर का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने समानांतर सिनेमा के क्षेत्र में बहुत काम किया और लिए उन्हें बहुत ख्याति मिली। जानी मानी ब्रिटिश केश सज्जा विशेषज्ञ/ हेयर स्टाइलिस्ट अधुना भबानी अख्तर का जन्म लिवरपूल, ब्रिटेन में हुआ।

1973 आई. अहमद के नाम से मशहूर प्रमुख दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्मी संगीतकार आई. मुईनुद्दीन का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1976 फिलिस्तीन की जमीन पर इजराइल द्वारा अवैध कब्जा करने के खिलाफ फिलिस्तीन में भूमि दिवस के नाम से बहुत बड़ा प्रदर्शन हुआ।

1977 हिंदी सिनेमा के जाने माने निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक अभिषेक चौबे का जन्म अयोध्या में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता स्वामी अग्निवेश ने अपनी भारतीय आर्यसभा पार्टी को जनता पार्टी में विलय कर दिया।

1981 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रोनाल्ड रीगन पर वॉशिंगटन में जानलेवा हमला हुआ। महज 69 दिन पहले राष्ट्रपति बने रीगन पर हमलावर ने छह गोलियां चलाई थीं। जॉन हिंकले जूनियर नाम के एक सिरफिरे ने जूडी फोस्टर की फिल्म टैक्सी ड्राइवर से प्रेरित होकर ये हमला किया था। वे घायल हुए लेकिन जल्दी ही ठीक होकर काम पर वापस आ गये। उन्होंने अपने दोनों कार्यकाल पूरे किए। इससे पहले अब्राहम लिंकन, जेम्स गार्डफील्ड, विलियम मैक्नले और जॉन एफ कैनेडी पर भी राष्ट्रपति रहते हमले हुए थे, लेकिन ये सभी बच नहीं सके थे।

1982 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा के अंतरिक्ष यान कोलंबिया ने एसटीएस-3 मिशन पूरा कर पृथ्वी पर वापसी की।

1987 सौंदर्य उत्पादक कंपनी लोरियल की ग्लोबल ब्रांड अंबेसडर, जानी मानी माॅडल और मलयालम सिनेमा और थिएटर अभिनेत्री और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता निधि सुनील का जन्म कोच्चि, केरल में हुआ।

1992 प्रख्यात भारतीय फिल्मकार सत्यजीत रे को ऑस्कर लाइफ टाइम अचीवमेंट मानद पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। इसी साल उन्हें भारत रत्न से भी सम्मानित किया गया था। कुल 37 फिल्में बनाने वाले सत्यजीत रे की यादगार फिल्मों में पाथेर पांचाली, अपराजितो, अपूर संसार और चारूलता, शाखा-प्रोशाखा शामिल हैं।

1992 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय पार्श्व गायिका पलक मुच्छल का जन्म इंदौर में हुआ। पलक और उनके छोटे भाई पलाश मुच्छल भारत तथा विदेशो में सार्वजनिक मंच पर गाने गाकर ह्रदय पीड़ित छोटे बच्चो के इलाज के लिए चंदा इकट्ठा करते है। उन्होने मई 2013 तक ढाई करोड रुपयो का चंदा इकट्ठा कर 572 बच्चो की जान बचाने के लिये वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान की है।

1997 कांग्रेस ने 10 महीने पुरानी केंद्र की एचडी देवगौड़ा सरकार से समर्थन वापस लिया। इसके बाद एक साल में तीसरी बार भारत में केंद्रीय सरकार बदली। इसी दिन दिल्ली में यशस्विनी सिंह देसवाल का जन्म हुआ। वे भारतीय शूटर हैं। यशस्विनी ने ब्राजील के रियो डी जेनेरो में 2019 के आईएसएसएफ विश्व कप में 10 मीटर एयर पिस्टल स्पर्धा में स्वर्ण पदक जीता।

1998 चीन के उत्तरी हिस्से शिनदोंग में भेड़ की हड्डी पर उत्कीर्ण 3000 साल पुरानी कुछ शब्दावलियां प्राप्त हुईं।

2002 हिंदी सिने के प्रसिद्ध गीतकार आनंद बख्शी का निधन। उन्होंने बॉबी, अमर प्रेम, आराधना, मेरा गांव मेरा देश से लेकर मोहब्बतें, गदर एक प्रेम कथा और यादें जैसी फिल्मों में गीत लिखे थे। इसी दिन 2002 में इंग्लैंड की वर्तमान महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय की मां एलिजाबेथ प्रथम का 101 साल की उम्र में निधन हुआ।

2003 लंदन में श्रीगुरु सिंहसभा गुरुद्वारा संगत के लिए खोला गया। समारोह में हजारों लोगों ने शिरकत की। इसे भारत से बाहर दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा गुरुद्वारा बताया गया। इसी दिन 2003 में पाकिस्तान के कहुटा परमाणु संयंत्र पर 2 वर्षों के लिए प्रतिबंध लगा।

2005 भारत के मशहूर कार्टूनिस्ट और लेखक ओ वी विजयन का निधन हुआ।

2006 आधुनिक हिंदी साहित्य के प्रसिद्ध गद्यकार, उपन्यासकार, व्यंग्यकार, पत्रकार मनोहर श्याम जोशी का निधन हुआ और इसी दिन ब्रिटेन में आतंकवाद निरोधक कानून प्रभावी हुआ।

2009 पाकिस्तान के लाहौर में मनावन पुलिस प्रशिक्षण विद्यालय में 12 बंदूकधारियों ने हमला किया।

2010 जेनेवा में महामशीन में प्रोटोन को टकराने में सफलता मिली। यूरोपियन सैंटर फॉर न्यूकलियर रिसर्च के भौतिक वैज्ञानिकों ने महामशीन में 13.7 बिलियन साल पहले बिग-बैंग के जरिए हुए ब्रहमांड के निर्माण की प्रक्रिया को दुहराने का प्रयोग किया। इससे वैज्ञानिक बिग-बैंग थ्यौरी के जरिए ब्रहमांड की उत्पत्ति की गुत्थी शायद सुलझा सकें। इसी दिन पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री बेअंत सिंह को मानव बम से उड़ाने के मामले में सह आरोपी खालिस्तानी उग्रवादी परमजीत सिंह भ्योरा को बुड़ैल जेल में विशेष कोर्ट के स्पेशल जज रवि कुमार सोंधी ने आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई।

2011 पेरू के निवासियों ने येल विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा माचू पिचू से 100 साल पहले लिए गए 45000 कलाकृतियों को पुनः प्राप्त किया, जो अंततः पेरू की गरिमा और गौरव की वापसी के अभियान में सफल रहा।

2012 जबरदस्त मंदी की चपेट में आए स्पेन के बजट में 27 अरब यूरो की कटौती की गई।

2014 स्लोवाकिया राष्ट्रपति के रूप में, एक करोड़पति, महिला किस्का ने चुनाव जीत कर इतिहास कायम किया। इसी दिन ऑस्कर विजेता फिल्म फ्रोजन इतिहास में सबसे अधिक कमाई करने वाली एनिमेटेड फिल्म बनी, इसने सर्वाधिक कमाई करने में अग्रणी फिल्म टॉय स्टोरी 3 को हराया।

2017 दिल्ली के मशहूर और पुराने 1932 से चल रहे रीगल सिनेमा घर को बंद कर दिया गया।

2018 मणिपुर पीपुल्स पार्टी के नेता और मुख्यमंत्री रहे राकुमार दोरेंद्र सिंह का निधन हुआ।

2022 भारत के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने लखीमपुर खीरी किसान हत्या मामले (3 अक्टूबर 2021) की विशेष जांच दल (एसआईटी) द्वारा की जा रही जांच की निगरानी कर रहे एक सेवानिवृत्त न्यायाधीश की दो रिपोर्ट पर 4 अप्रैल तक जवाब देने का उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार को निर्देश दिया। रिपोर्ट में केन्द्रीय मंत्री अजय मिश्रा के बेटे एवं मामले में आरोपी आशीष मिश्रा की जमानत रद्द करने की मांग की गई है। चीफ जस्टिस एन. वी. रमना, जस्टिस सूर्यकांत और जस्टिस हिमा कोहली की एक पीठ ने कहा कि जांच की निगरानी कर रहे सेवानिवृत्त न्यायाधीश ने इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट द्वारा मामले में अजय मिश्रा को दी गई जमानत को रद्द करने के लिए राज्य सरकार को पत्र लिखा है। पीठ ने कहा, एसआईटी ने उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार के अतिरिक्त मुख्य सचिव (गृह) को जांच की निगरानी कर रहे न्यायाधीश के दो पत्र भेजे हैं, जिन्होंने मुख्य आरोपी आशीष मिश्रा की जमानत रद्द करने के वास्ते राज्य सरकार को सुप्रीमकोर्ट में अपील दायर करने के लिए भी पत्र लिखा है। इसी दिन मोदी सरकार के सहयोगी योग गुरु के नाम से मशहूर कारोबारी बाबा रामदेव ने तेल की बढ़ती कीमतों पर केन्द्र सरकार का बचाव करते हुए लोगों को अपनी कमाई बढ़ाने की सलाह दी। करनाल के एक शिक्षण संस्थान में रामदेव ने कहा कि सरकार चलाने और देश चलाने के लिए उन्हें टैक्स लेना पड़ रहा है। महंगाई है तो लोगों को कमाई बढ़ानी होगी। मेहतन ज्यादा करनी पड़ेगी। मैं संन्यासी होकर भी 18-18 घंटे मेहनत करता हूं। दूसरे लोग भी मेहतन करेंगे तो कमाई होगी। फिर महंगाई भी झेल लेंगे। देश की भलाई के लिए।

1853 World-renowned Dutch painter Vincent Willem van Gogh, Netherlands, is born in Zundert, Netherlands. Vincent Van Gogh posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. He created over 2,100 works of art, including about 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life. After his death, his works were sold in the hundreds of millions, while during his work, Vincent lived in extreme poverty. His condition had become like that of a madman.

1908 Devika Rani, noted Indian actress, was born. Devika became a famous film actress of the 1930s and 1940s. Died on 9 March 1994.

1909 Lalitambika Antharjanam, famous Indian woman writer and social activist, was born in Kottavattam, Kerala. Lalitambika composed literature in Malayalam. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1977 for Lalitambika's novel Agnisakshi.

1919 Mahatma Gandhi announced his opposition to the Rowlatt Act. The Rowlatt Act is also known as the Black Act. This law was made by the then British government to crush the national movement emerging in India. Under the law, the British government had got the right to imprison any Indian without trial in the court. When Mahatma Gandhi started a movement against this, lakhs of people joined him. Thousands of people gathering in protest against this were surrounded and gunned down on April 13, 1919 in Jallianwala, Punjab. In 1919, on March 30, the Belgian army captured the city of Dusseldorf in Germany.

1941 Wasim Sajjad, Pakistani parliamentarian, speaker and executive president, was born in Jalandhar.

1973 I. Mueenuddin, prominent South Indian film composer known as I. Ahmed, was born in Madras.

In 1976, a massive demonstration called Land Day took place in Palestine against Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian land.

1977 Abhishek Choubey, well-known director and screenwriter of Hindi cinema, was born in Ayodhya. On this day, well-known social worker Swami Agnivesh merged his Bharatiya Arya Sabha party with the Janata Party.

1981 US President Ronald Reagan was assassinated in Washington. The assailant had fired six bullets at Reagan, who became President just 69 days earlier. 1992 Noted Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray was awarded the Oscar Lifetime Achievement Honorary Award. He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna in the same year. The memorable films of Satyajit Ray, who made a total of 37 films, include Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansar and Charulata, Shakha-Proshakha.

1992 Palak Muchhal, famous Indian playback singer, was born in Indore. Palak and his younger brother Palash Muchhal collect funds for the treatment of small children suffering from heart disease by singing songs on public stage in India and abroad. By May 2013, he has provided financial assistance to save the lives of 572 children by collecting a donation of Rs 2.5 crore.

1997 Congress withdraws support to the 10-month-old HD Deve Gowda government at the Centre. After this, the central government in India changed for the third time in a year. Yashaswini Singh Deswal was born on this day in Delhi. He is an Indian shooter. Yashaswini won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
