809 बगदाद के विश्व प्रसिद्ध अब्बासी खलीफा हारुन अल रशीद का निधन हुआ।

1603 इंग्लैंड की महारानी महारानी एलिजाबेथ प्रथम का निधन हुआ। इसके बाद स्कॉटलैंड के राजा जेम्स छठे ने इंग्लैंड और आयरलैंड के सिंहासन पर कब्जा कर लिया। इस एकीकरण के बाद तीनों देशों के राजा जेम्स छठे का नाम इंग्लैंड राजा जेम्स प्रथम हुआ।

1775 मुत्तुस्वामी दीक्षितार अथवा मुत्तुस्वामी दीक्षित नामक दक्षिण भारत के विख्यात कवि व संगीतज्ञ का जन्म हुआ। वे कर्नाटक संगीत के तीन प्रमुख व लोकप्रिय हस्तियों में से एक हैं। उन्होने 500 से अधिक संगीत रचनाएं की। कर्नाटक संगीतज्ञों में उनका प्रमुख स्थान है। वे रामस्वामी दीक्षित के पुत्र थे।

1837 कनाडा में अश्वेत नागरिकों को चुनाव में मतदान का अधिकार दिया गया।

1841 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और आॅल इंडिया मुस्लिम लीग के संस्थापक नवाब मुस्ताक हुसैन यानी वक़ार उल मुल्क कंबोह का जन्म मेरठ में हुआ।

1855 कोलकाता से आगरा के बीच पहली बार टेलीग्राफ से लंबी दूरी का संदेश प्रेषित किया गया।

1855 ब्रिटिश कैबिनेट मिशन भारत पहुंचा। इस उच्च-स्तरीय शिष्टमंडल में ब्रिटिश मंत्रीमंडल के तीन सदस्य- लार्ड पैथिक लारेंस (भारत सचिव), सर स्टेफर्ड क्रिप्स (व्यापार बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष) तथा ए. वी. अलेक्जेंडर (एडमिरैलिटी के प्रथम लार्ड या नौसेना मंत्री) थे। यह मिशन भारत को आजाद करने से पूर्व भारत के नेताओं से तमाम तरह की बातचीत के लिए भारत आया था। 

1863 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय राजनेता और अधिवक्ता सत्येन्द्र प्रसन्न सिन्हा का जन्म हुआ। सत्येंद्र प्रसाद सिन्हा बंगाल के एडवोकेट जनरल थे। वह पहले भारतीय थे जिन्होंने वाइसरॉय की काउंसिल में कानून सदस्य के रूप में प्रवेश करने का सम्मान प्राप्त किया। प्रथम महायुद्ध के बाद सिन्हा को लॉर्ड की उपाधि दी गई तथा वह अंडर सेक्रेटरी ऑव स्टेट फॉर इंडिया के पद पर नियुक्त कर दिए गए। यानी वे ब्रिटिश सेवक थे।

1882 घातक संक्रामक बीमारी टीबी की पहचान बताई गई। जर्मन चिकित्सक हेनरिक हर्मन रॉबर्ट कोच ने माइकोबैक्टीरियम ट्यूबरकुलोसिस की खोज की घोषणा की, यह एक जीवाणु है जो तपेदिक यानी क्षय रोग का कारण बनता है। रॉबर्ट कोच को बाद में इस उपलब्धि के लिए नोबेल पुरस्कार दिया गया।

1883 अमेरिकी नगर शिकागो और न्यूयार्क के बीच पहली बार फोन से बातचीत हुई।

1892 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय साहित्यकार हरिभाऊ उपाध्याय का जन्म हुआ।

1922 तमिल सिनेमा के विख्यात संगीतकार और गायक टीएम सुंदरराजन का जन्म मदुरई में हुआ।

1927 चीन में साम्यवादियों और सामंतवादियों के बीच लड़ाई के दौरान, छह देशों के युद्धपोतों ने वहां रहने वाले विदेशी नागरिकों की रक्षा के बहाने नानजिंग शहर पर बमबारी की।

1928 जाने माने पाकिस्तानी जनकवि, क्रांतिकारी शायर हबीब जालिब का जन्म होशियारपुर (पंजाब, भारत) में हुआ।

1932 अमेरिका में पहली बार चलती ट्रेन से रेडियो प्रसारण किया गया।

1940 जाने माने भारतीय पाकिस्तानी कवि, लेखक और इस्लामिक धार्मिक उपदेशक सईद ज़मीर अख्तर नक़वी या ज़मीर हसन नक़वी का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ।

1950 बंबई के जाने माने फिल्मकार, टीवी शो निर्माता प्रह्लाद कक्कड़ का जन्म हुआ।

1953 ब्रिटेन की महारानी की दादी महारानी मैरी का सोते हुए निधन हो गया।

1959 इराक ने बगदाद समझौते से खुद को अलग कर लिया।

1962 जाने माने भारतीय फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता तथा माॅडल जावेद खान का जन्म भोपाल में हुआ।

1966 आंध्र प्रदेश के प्रमुख अमीर, कारोबारी और तेलुगू देशम पार्टी के नेता गाला जयदेव का जन्म हुआ।

1971 प्रसिद्ध आधुनिक हिंदी गद्यकार राधिकारमण प्रसाद सिंह निधन हुआ।

1974 एलीसन हनिंगन का जन्म वाॅशिंगटन डीसी में हुआ। एलीसन विख्यात अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल है। वह बफी द वैम्पायर स्लेयर में अपनी विलो रोजन्बर्ग की भूमिका, अमेरिकन पाई फिल्मों में मिशेल फ्लाहर्टी व सीबीएस के धारावाहिक हाउ आई मेट योर मदर मे लिली एल्ड्रिन की भूमिका के लिए जानी जाती है। 

1976 विख्यात अमेरिकी फुटबॉल खिलाड़ी पेयटन मैनिंग का जन्म हुआ।

1977 आम चुनाव में जनता पार्टी गठबंधन की जीत के बाद मोरारजी देसाई भारत के चौथे प्रधानमंत्री बने और केन्द्र में पहली बार गैर-कांग्रेसी सरकार बनी।

1979 प्रसिद्ध बॉलीवुड अभिनेता एवं माॅडल इमरान हाशमी का बंबई में जन्म हुआ। इमरान फुटपाथ, मर्डर, जहर, कलयुग, गैंगस्टर आदि तमाम फिल्मों में शानदार अभिनय के लिए जाने जाते हैं।

1984 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय हॉकी खिलाड़ी एड्रियन डिसूजा का जन्म हुआ।

1986 जाने माने अभिनेता, माॅडल, गीतकार, कला निर्देशक, शेफ और कारोबारी बिजू थंगजाम का जन्म इंफाल में हुआ।

1987 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन और फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल मुग्धा चाफेकर का बंबई में जन्म हुआ।

1987 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल भावना खत्री का जन्म पिथौरागढ़ में हुआ। उनके पिता रुद्र सिंह सैन्य अधिकारी हैं।

1989 टैंकर एक्सॉन वाल्देज से प्रिंस विलियम साउंड, अलास्का में 10 मिलियन से अधिक अमेरिकी गैलन तेल समुद्र में गिर गया, जिससे समुद्र में तमाम विनाशकारी मानवजनित पर्यावरणीय समस्याएं पैदा हुईं।

1990 भारतीय सेना ने श्रीलंका छोड़कर स्वदेश वापसी की।

1991 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर क्रुनाल पंड्या का जन्म अहमदाबाद में हुआ।

1992 कर्नाटक में मैसूर राजघराने के राजकुमार यदुवीर कृष्णदत्त चामराज वाडियार का जन्म हुआ।

1993 एजर वीजमैन इजरायल के राष्ट्रपति चुने गये।

1994 चर्चित अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति रहे जाॅन एफ कैनेडी के चर्चित बेटे रॉबर्ट एफ केनेडी जूनियर ने अपनी पत्नी एमिली ब्लैक को तलाक दिया।

1999 भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे पी.एन. भगवती लगातार दूसरे कार्यकाल के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार समिति के उपाध्यक्ष चयनित हुए।

2002 व्हूपी गोल्डबर्ग ने 74 वें अकादमी पुरस्कार ऑस्कर समारोह की मेजबानी की। ए ब्यूटीफुल माइंड ने बेस्ट पिक्चर का पुरस्कार, डेन्सेल वाशिंगटन और हैली बेरी ने मुख्य अभिनय पुरस्कार जीते।

2003 तपेदिक (क्षयरोग) की रोकथाम के लिए लोगों में जागरूकता बढ़ाने और इसके नियंत्रण के प्रयासों को जारी रखने के लिए दुनिया भर में 24 मार्च के दिन को विश्व क्षय रोग दिवस मनाया गया।

2007 प्रसिद्ध क्रिकेटर मैथ्यू हेडन ने क्रिकेट वर्ल्ड कप का सबसे तेज शतक लगाया। हेडन ने दक्षिण अफ्रीका के खिलाफ 66 गेंद में शतक लगाया था। 2011 वर्ल्ड कप में आयरलैंड के केविन-ओ-ब्रयान ने महज 50 गेंद में शतक लगाकर हेडन का रिकॉर्ड तोड़ा।

2008 छठे वेतन आयोग ने केन्द्र सरकार के कर्मचारियों और अधिकारियों के लिए औसतन 40 प्रतिशत वेतन बढ़ोत्तरी की सिफारिश की। इसी दिन भारतीय ऊर्जा उपकरण निर्माता कंपनी एक्सएल टेलीकॉम एंड एनर्जी लिमिटेड को यूरोप में एक अरब 53 करोड़ 90 लाख रुपये के सोलर पैनल निर्यात करने का आर्डर मिला।

2008 भूटान लोकतांत्रिक देश बना। जिग्मे थिनले के नेतृत्व में, भूटान पीस एंड प्रॉस्पेरिटी पार्टी ने भूटान की नेशनल असेंबली में पहली बार हुए आम चुनाव में 47 में से 45 सीटें जीतीं। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी के नेता युसुफ रजा गिलानी को पाकिस्तान का नया प्रधानमंत्री चुना गया।

2011 केन्या ने अफ्रीका कार्बन एक्सचेंज खोला। यह अफ्रीका में पहला कार्बन एक्सचेंज है। इसे कार्बन क्रेडिट एक्सचेंज के लिए खोला गया है।

2012 बोलीवियाई राष्ट्रपति ईवो मोरालेस ने माना कि बोलीविया और चिली के बीच सीमा के विवाद को हल करने के लिए नीदरलैंड के हेग में स्थित अंतर्राष्ट्रीय न्यायालय का निर्णय मान्य होगा। इसी दिन चीन ने अंगों को लेने और बेचने की प्रथा को समाप्त करने की योजना बनाने की घोषणा की। यह योजना मृत्यु दंड की सजा पाये कैदियों के बारे में है।

2013 पाकिस्तान के उत्तरी वजीरिस्तान में एक सैन्य चौकी पर हुये आत्मघाती हमले में 17 सैनिक मारे गये।

2014 डिजनी ने घोषणा की कि वह 450 मिलियन के अतिरिक्त भुगतान के साथ 500 मिलियन में मेकर स्टूडियोज खरीदेगा। डिजनी ऑनलाइन वीडियो बेचने वाले मीडिया ट्रॉफ के लिए मार्केटिंग आउटलेट का विस्तार कर सकती है।

2015 जर्मनविंग्स फ्लाइट 9525 के सह-पायलट ने हत्या-आत्महत्या के इरादे से जानबूझकर विमान को फ्रांसीसी आल्प्स पर्वत से टकरा दिया जिससे सभी 150 लोग मारे गए।

1775 Muttuswami Dikshitar or Muttuswami Dixit, a famous poet and musician of South India, was born. He is one of the three prominent and popular personalities of Carnatic music. He composed more than 500 musical compositions. He has a prominent place among Carnatic musicians. He was the son of Ramaswami Dixit.

1837 Black citizens in Canada were given the right to vote in elections.

1841 Freedom fighter and founder of All India Muslim League, Nawab Mustaq Hussain i.e. Waqar ul Mulk Kamboh was born in Meerut.

1855 Long distance message was transmitted by telegraph for the first time between Kolkata and Agra.

1855 British Cabinet Mission reached India. In this high-level delegation, three members of the British Cabinet - Lord Pethick Lawrence (India Secretary), Sir Stafford Cripps (President of the Board of Trade) and A.K. V. Alexander (First Lord of the Admiralty or Minister of the Navy). This mission came to India for all kinds of talks with the leaders of India before liberating India.

1863 Satyendra Prasanna Sinha, famous Indian politician and advocate, was born. Satyendra Prasad Sinha was the Advocate General of Bengal. He was the first Indian to have the honor of entering the Viceroy's Council as a law member. After the First World War, Sinha was given the title of Lord and he was appointed to the post of Under-Secretary of State for India. That is, he was a British servant.

1882 The deadly infectious disease TB was identified. German physician Heinrich Hermann Robert Koch announces the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes tuberculosis. Robert Koch was later awarded the Nobel Prize for this achievement.

1986 Biju Thangjam, noted actor, model, lyricist, art director, chef and businessman, was born in Imphal.

1987 Mugdha Chaphekar, well-known beautiful, bold television and film actress and model, was born in Bombay.

1987 Beautiful, bold, well-known television actress and model Bhavna Khatri was born in Pithoragarh. His father Rudra Singh is a military officer.

2002 Whoopi Goldberg hosted the 74th Academy Awards Oscar ceremony. A Beautiful Mind won Best Picture, Denzel Washington and Halle Berry won the lead acting awards.

2003 World Tuberculosis Day is observed on 24 March all over the world to raise public awareness for the prevention of tuberculosis and to continue its control efforts.

2007 Famous cricketer Matthew Hayden scored the fastest century in the Cricket World Cup. Hayden scored a century in 66 balls against South Africa. In the 2011 World Cup, Ireland's Kevin-O'Brien broke Hayden's record by scoring a century in just 50 balls.

2008 The Sixth Pay Commission recommended an average 40 percent pay hike for central government employees and officers. On the same day, Indian energy equipment manufacturer XL Telecom and Energy Limited received an order to export solar panels worth Rs 1.53 billion 90 lakh to Europe.

2008 Bhutan became a democratic country. Under the leadership of Jigme Thinley, the Bhutan Peace and Prosperity Party won 45 out of 47 seats in the National Assembly of Bhutan in the first ever general election. On the same day, Yousuf Raza Gilani, leader of the Pakistan People's Party, was elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.

2013 A suicide attack on an army post in North Waziristan, Pakistan, kills 17 soldiers.

2014 Disney announced that it would buy Maker Studios for $500 million, with an additional $450 million down payment. Disney may expand marketing outlets to media tropes that sell online video.

2015 The co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 intentionally crashed the plane into the French Alps in a murder-suicide killing all 150 people on board.
