1559 मेवाड़ के महाराणा प्रताप के बड़े पुत्र अमर सिंह प्रथम का जन्म चित्तौड़गढ़, राजस्थान में हुआ।

1693 इंदौर के होल्कर राजवंश के संस्थापक मल्हारराव होल्कर का जन्म हुआ।

1799 विश्व प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश प्रकृति विज्ञानी और महिला फोटोग्राफर एना एटकिंस का टोनब्रिज, इंग्लैंड में जन्म हुआ। उन्होंने पहली ऐसी किताब प्रकाशित की जिसमें कैमरे से ली गई तस्वीरों का इस्तेमाल किया गया था।

1827 संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में पहला अफ्रीकी-अमेरिकी अखबार फ्रीडम जर्नल जॉन रूस्सवर्म एवं सैमुएल कोर्निश ने न्यूयॉर्क से प्रकाशित किया।

1846 अमृतसर समझौते के मुताबिक कश्मीर का आधिपत्य जम्मू के राजा गुलाब सिंह के अधीन कर दिया गया।

1867 एंटीसेप्टिक सर्जरी की खोज पर यूसुफ लिस्टर द्वारा लिखा गया एक लेख, पहली बार द लैनसेट जर्नल में प्रकाशित किया गया।

1901 गांधी जी के अनुयायी स्वतन्त्रता सेनानी पोट्टि श्रीरामुलु का जन्म।

1906 भारत के जाने-माने शिक्षाविद और हिंदी साहित्यकार अंबिका प्रसाद दिव्य का पन्ना मध्य प्रदेश में जन्म हुआ।

1910 पटौदी खानदान में राजकुमार इफ्तिखार अली खान पटौदी का जन्म हुआ। उन्होंने इंग्लैंड और भारत के लिए क्रिकेट खेला। उनके बेटे मंसूर अली खान पटौदी भारत के सबसे युवा टेस्ट कप्तान रहे। वे दुनिया के मशहूर क्रिकेटर्स में से एक थे। 

1916 सन 1960 और 1970 के दशक के हिंदी सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध खलनायक तथा फिल्म निर्माता सप्रू या दयाकिशन सप्रू का जन्म कश्मीर में हुआ।

1922 इंग्लैंड ने मिस्र को मान्यता दी। इसी दिन विख्यात अमेरिकी टेलीविजन पटकथा लेखक और नाटककार हार्डिंग लेमेयका 1922 में जन्म हुआ।

1926 अमेरिकी इंजीनियर रॉबर्ड गोलार्ड ने दुनिया का पहला लिक्विड फ्यूल्ड रॉकेट लॉन्च किया। इसमें लिक्विड ऑक्सीजन और गैसोलीन का प्रयोग किया गया था।

1929 अंग्रेजी सहित विभिन्न दक्षिण भारतीय भाषाओं में लिखने वाले कवि, नाटककार, लेखक, अनुवादक, दार्शनिक, शोधकर्ता एके रामानुजन (अट्टिपटे कृष्णास्वामी रामानुजन) का जन्म मैसूर में हुआ।

1938 भारतीय समुद्री शोधकर्ता, इकोलॉजिस्ट और शिपबिल्डर अली मानिकफान जन्म हुआ।

1939 चेकोस्लोवाकिया पर जर्मनी ने कब्जा किया।

1940 विख्यात मलयालम फिल्म पटकथाकार, संगीतकार, गीतकार, निर्देशक एवं निर्माता श्रीकुमार थंपी का जन्म हरिपद में हुआ।

1945 दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जापानी आईलैंड ईओ जीमा पर अमेरिकी नौसेना ने कब्जा कर लिया। 1945 में इसी दिन दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जर्मनी के वर्जबर्ग शहर पर ब्रिटेन ने हवाई हमला किया। 20 मिनट की बमबारी में इस शहर का 90 प्रतिशत हिस्सा तबाह हो गया था।

1947 प्रसिद्ध कवि, साहित्यकार अयोध्यासिंह उपाध्याय का।

1949 कबीर सुमन का जन्म कटक, उड़ीसा में हुआ। सुमन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय संगीत निर्देशक, गीतकार, संगीतकार, गायक, कवि, उपन्यासकार, बहुभाषाविद, पत्रकार, राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ता, टीवी प्रस्तोता तथा अभिनेता साथ ही ऑल इंडिया तृणमूल कांग्रेस नेता, लोकसभा सदस्य हुए।

1955 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी साहित्यकारविजयानन्द त्रिपाठी का निधन।

1956 प्रख्यात भारतीय शास्त्रीय नर्तकी, डांस कोरियोग्राफर एवं अभिनेत्री तनुश्री शंकर का कलकत्ता में जन्म हुआ।

1958 भारतीय सेना के मुखिया और चीफ आॅफ आर्मी स्टाफ रहे जनरल बिपिन रावत का जन्म पौड़ी, गढ़वाल, उत्तराखंड में हुआ।

1959 इराक और सोवियत संघ ने आर्थिक एवं तकनीक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1966 अमेरिका ने मानवयुक्त अंतरिक्ष यान जेमिनी 8 लांच किया।

1968 जाने माने तमिल एवं तेलुगू सिनेमा के सिनेमाटोग्राफर आर्थर ए विल्सन का जन्म इंग्लैंड में हुआ। इसी इसी दिन जानी मानी टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री अनन्या खरे का जन्म रतलाम मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ। उन्होंने शाहरुख खान की देवदास से खास पहचान मिली। वे ज्यादातर चरित्र या खल चरित्र भूमिकाओं के लिए जानी जाती हैं। 1968 वियतनाम युद्ध-अमेरिकी सैनिकों ने सोन एम में सैकड़ों निहत्थे लोगों को मार डाला दक्षिण वियतनाम के सोन टी जिले में गाँव।

1970 सन 2011 के साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त विख्यात तमिल साहित्यकार एस वेंकटेशन का जन्म तमिलनाडु के हर्वीपत्ती में हुआ।

1971 जानी मानी सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और शिक्षिका शाहीन मिस्त्री का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। वे टेक फाॅर इंडिया और अकांक्षा फाउंडेशन एनजीओ चलाती हैं। 1971 में इसी दिन बाॅलीवुड के जाने माने अभिनेता, हास्य कलाकार, फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक और लेखक राजपाल यादव (राजपाल नौरंग यादव) का जन्म शाहजहांपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश में

हुआ।

1976 आठ वर्ष तक ब्रिटेन के प्रधानमंत्री और 13 वर्षों तक लेबर पार्टी के नेता रहे, हैरल्ड विल्सन ने त्यागपत्र देकर सबको चौंका दिया था।

1978 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड भारतीय, ब्रिटिश फिल्म, टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री माॅडल आयशा धारकर का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। इसी दिन 1978 में इटली के पूर्व प्रधान मंत्री एल्डो मोरो को रोम में मारियो मोरेटी और रेड ब्रिगेड द्वारा अपहरण कर लिया गया था।

1985 जाने माने नर्तक, रियलिटी शो डांस इंडिया डांस विजेता कुंवर अमर या कुंवर अमरजीत सिंह का इंदौर में जन्म हुआ।

1988 कन्नड़ एवं दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं संचिता पादुकोण का जन्म कुंडापुरा, कर्नाटक में हुआ। जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री दीपिका पादुकोण कुंडापुरा की ही हैं यद्यपि उनका जन्म स्वीडन के कोपेनहेगन में हुआ था।

1989 मिस्र में चिपोज के पिरामिड में 4400 साल पुरानी ममी मिली।

1995 भारत में पोलियो की ओरल वैक्सीन की पहली डोज दी गई थी। भारत का पल्स पोलियो अभियान दुनिया के सबसे सफल वैक्सीनेशन कैंपेन माना गया है। वैक्सीनेशन के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से हर साल 16 मार्च को नेशनल वैक्सीनेशन डे के रूप में मनाया जाता है। 2014 में विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने भारत को पोलियो-मुक्त देश घोषित कर दिया। भारत ने ये उपलब्धि मात्र 19 वर्ष में हासिल कर ली। 

1995 नासा अंतरिक्ष यात्री नॉर्मन रूसी अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन मीर का दौरा करने वाले पहले अमेरिकी बने।

1997 नवजोत सिंह सिद्धू ने वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ खेलते हुए अपने टेस्ट करियर का एकमात्र दोहरा शतक लगाया. उन्होंने 673 मिनट तक बैटिंग करते हुए 201 रन की पारी खेली जो उस समय क्रिकेट इतिहास में सबसे धीमे दोहरे शतक के तौर पर दर्ज हुई थी.

1998 चीनी राष्ट्रपति जियांग जेमिन अगले कार्यकाल के लिए पुन राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए।

1999 फैंटम जैसे हास्य चरित्र के जनक लियोन ली फाक का निधन हुआ।

2000 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबाल खिलाड़ी राहुल कैन्नोली प्रवीण का जन्म केरल के मन्नूथी में हुआ। इसी दिन पाकिस्तान में लाहौर की एक अदालत ने जावेद इकबाल को मौत की सजा सुनाई, जिसने 6 से 16 साल की उम्र के बच्चों के साथ दरिंदगी के बाद उनकी हत्या कर दी और सबूत छिपाने के लिए उनके शवों को काट-काटकर तेजाब में डाला। अदालत ने जावेद को उसी तरह मारने का आदेश दिया था जैसे वह बच्चों को मारता था, लेकिन उसने सजा पाने से पहले ही आत्महत्या कर ली।

2002 रू न्यूजीलैंड के नाथन एस्टल ने इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ खेलते हुए 163 गेंद में दोहरा शतक जमाकर टेस्ट क्रिकेट में सबसे तेज दोहरा शतक लगाने का रिकार्ड अपने नाम किया.

2003 ग्रीन स्मिथ दक्षिण अफ्रीका के क्रिकेट कप्तान बने।

2012 भारत के मास्टर ब्लास्टर सचिन तेंदुलकर अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में 100 शतक बनाने वाले पहले खिलाड़ी बने।

2013 पाकिस्तान के रावलपिंडी में हुई बस दुर्घटना में लगभग 25 सैनिकों की जान गयी। इसी दिन 2013 में पोप फ्रांसिस ने इटली में वेटिकन सिटी में अपना पहला संदेश दिया। उन्होंने बताया कि वह गरीबों के लिए एक गरीब चर्च चाहते हैं।

2014 क्रीमिया में यूक्रेन से अलग होने और रूस के साथ जाने के लिए जनमत संग्रह हुआ। कई देशों के विरोध के बाद भी रूस ने जनमत संग्रह के बाद क्रीमिया को अपने में मिला लिया।
