1878 वर्नाकुलर प्रेस एक्ट प्रभाव में आया और अगले ही दिन अमृत बाजार पत्रिका अंग्रेजी समाचार पत्र इस कानून का पहला शिकार बना। प्रेस पर शिकंजा कसने के लिए लॉर्ड लिटन ने वर्नाक्यूलर प्रेस एक्ट 1878 पारित किया जिसने सरकार को देशद्रोही सामग्री छापने वाले अखबारों को जब्त करने के लिए अधिकृत किया। ऐसे बातें लिखना जिसमें देश को विदेशी दासता से मुक्ति अथवा सरकार की किसी भी प्रकार से आलोचना करना देशद्रोह माना जाएगा। उन्होंने शस्त्र अधिनियम 1878 भी पारित किया जिसमें भारतीयों को बिना किसी अनुमति के हथियार ले जाने पर रोक लगाई गई थी। अंग्रेजों को इस अधिनियम से बाहर रखा गया था।

1881 रूस के जार एलेक्जेंडर द्वितीय की सेंट पीटर्सबर्ग में हत्या कर दी गई।

1897 अमेरिका के सैन डिएगो में एक साधारण स्कूल की स्थापना की गई। बाद में इसे विश्व विद्यालय में तब्दील किया गया। अब यह दुनिया की प्रतिष्ठित सैन डिएगो स्टेट यूनिवर्सिटी कहलाती है।

1921 मंगोलिया को चीन से स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1925 अमेरिकी राज्य टेनेसी की विधायिका ने राज्य के पब्लिक स्कूलों में चॉर्ल्स डार्विन की थ्योरी ऑफ इवोल्यूशन को पढ़ाने पर प्रतिबंध लगाने का बिल पास किया। बाद में एक हाई-स्कूल टीचर कानून तोड़ने का दोषी भी ठहराया गया।

1940 भारतीय क्रांतिकारी ऊधम सिंह ने अंग्रेजों से 1919 के अमृतसर स्थित जलियांवाला बाग नरसंहार का बदला लेने के लिए लंदन में माइकल ओ डायर पर गोलियां चलाईं।

1943 नाजी जर्मन सैनिकों ने पोलैंड के क्राकोव में यहूदी बस्ती को नष्ट करना शुरू किया लगभग 8 हजार यहूदियों को प्लाज्जो श्रम शिविर में काम करने में सक्षम माना, बाकी कुछ मार दिए गये और कुछ औशविट्ज यातनाग्रह भेज दिए गये।

1949 बांग्लादेश के प्रमुख नेता, सैन्य अधिकारी और मंत्री रहे सलाहुद्दीन कादर चौधरी का जन्म राओजान, उपजिला बंग्लादेश में हुआ।

1957 कैलिफोर्निया विश्व विद्यालय, अमेरिका के कुलपति, शिक्षक और तकनीकी विशेषज्ञ प्रदीप खोसला का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1960 भारतीय दूरसंचार विवाद निपटान और अपील अधिकरण के अध्यक्ष और पूर्व जज धीरुभाई नारायणभाई पटेल का जन्म गुजरात में हुआ।

1961 त्रणमूल कांग्रेस नेता और राज्य सभा सदस्य डेरेक ओब्रायन का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। हरियाणा में भाजपा के साथ सत्तारूढ़ जननायक जनता पार्टी के नेता, पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ओमप्रकाश चौटाला के पुत्र और टेबल टेनिस फेडरेशन आफ इंडिया के पूर्व अध्यक्ष अजय सिंह चौटाला का जन्म चौटाला, सिरसा में हुआ।

1964 तुर्की ने साइप्रस के खिलाफ हमले की धमकी दी।

1969 हिंदुओं के वर्तमान सर्वोच्च धर्मगुरु विजयेंद्र सरस्वती स्वामीगल का जन्म तिरुवालूर में हुआ। यह कांचि कामकोटि पीठम के 70वें पीठाधिपति हैं। इससे पहले 69वें पीठाधिपति जयेंद्र सरस्वती थे। जो एक हत्या के जुर्म में कुछ साल जेल में रहे और उनका 28 फरवरी 2018 को देहावसान हो गया।

1971 हिंदी के प्रसिद्ध कवि आत्मा रंजन का जन्म हुआ।

1978 जाने माने लेखक और फिल्म निर्देशक तथा किस्सागो मोहम्मद फारुकी का जन्म गोरखपुर में हुआ। इसी दिन जानी मानी पत्रकार, फिल्म पटकथा लेखिका और फिल्म निर्देशक अनुषा रिज़वी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन तेलंगाना की जानी मानी महिला राजनीतिज्ञ, लोकसभा और राज्य विधान सभा सदस्य रहीं कलवाकुंतला कविता का जन्म करीमनगर में हुआ।

1980 भारतीय जनता पार्टी के पीलीभीत से लोकसभा सदस्य, पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी के पौत्र और भाजपा नेता मेनका गांधी के पुत्र फिरोज वरुण गांधी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1982 जानी मानी भारतीय अमेरिकी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल निमरत कौर का जन्म पिलानी, राजस्थान में हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने तमिल संगीतकार, लेखक, फिल्म अभिनेता, निर्देशक दरबुका शिवा का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ।

1984 जानी मानी भारतीय अभिनेत्री और माॅडल गीता बसरा का जन्म पोर्ट्समाउथ, इंग्लैंड में हुआ। इनका विवाह मशहूर भारतीय क्रिकेटर हरभजन सिंह से हुआ है।

1988 दुनिया की सबसे लंबी और गहरी सुरंग सीकन टनल, जापान के हाकोडेट और अओमोरी शहरों के बीच खोली गई।

1992 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर कुलवंत खेजरोलिया का जन्म झुंझुनू राजस्थान में हुआ।

1994 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर मोहम्मद सिराज का जन्म हैदराबाद में हुआ।

1996 स्कॉटलैंड के डनब्लेन के स्कूल में 1996 में एक बंदूकधारी ने घुसकर गोलियों की बौछार कर दी जिसमें लगभग 16 बच्चे और उनके शिक्षक की मौत हो गई। 1996 में इसी दिन हिंदी फिल्मों के मशहूर अभिनेता शफी ईनामदार का निधन हुआ।

1997 भारत की प्रमुख इसाई मिशनरी मदर टेरेसा की उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में सिस्टर निर्मला को मिशनरीज ऑफ चैरिटी के सुपीरियर जनरल के पद पर चुना गया।

1999 शेख हमाज बिन ईसा अल खलीफा बहरीन के नये शासक बने। 23 वर्षों के अंतराल के बाद श्रीलंका सरकार ने हत्या एवं मादक द्रव्य तस्करी सदृश अपराधों के लिए मृत्युदंड की सजा को पुनः लागू किया।

2002 राबर्ट मुगावे फिर से जिम्बाब्वे के राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए।

2003 इराक पर ब्रिटेन के प्रस्तावों को फ्रांस ने नामंजूर किया।

2004 भारत के प्रसिद्ध सितार वादक उस्ताद विलायत खां का निधन हुआ।

2008 सैक्स स्कैण्डल में फंसे न्यूयार्क के गवर्नर एलिमट स्पित्जर ने अपने पद से इस्तीफा देने की घोषणा की। 2008 में इसी दिन भारत के प्रमुख अंग्रेजी अखबार हिन्दुस्तान टाइम्स और पाकिस्तान के प्रमुख अखबार डॉन को पत्रकारिता के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए राजस्थान पत्रिका की ओर से दिए जाने वाले कपूर चंद कुलिश सम्मान प्रदान किये गये। इसी दिन अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा का अंतरिक्ष यान एंडेवर सकुशल अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन पर पहुँचा।

2009 सार्क साहित्योत्सव आगरा, उत्तर प्रदेश में शुरू हुआ।

2012 बंगलादेश की राजधानी ढाका के समीप एक तेल टैंकर और एक नौका के बीच हुई टक्कर में लगभग 100 लोगों की जान गयी। इसी दिन हार्वर्ड मेडिकल स्कूल के एक अध्ययन में दावा किया गया है कि लाल मांस के सेवन से मृत्यु दर बढ़ जाती है साथ ही स्वास्थ्य पर नकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ते हैं।

2013 ब्यूनस आयर्स के आर्कबिशप जॉर्ज मारियो बर्गोग्लियो रोमन कैथोलिक चर्च के पोप बनाए गए। उन्हें पोप फ्रांसिस नाम मिला। उन्होंने पोप बेनेडिक 16वें की जगह ली।

2014 ब्रिटेन की सरकार ने घोषणा की कि वह 11 मिलियन पाउंड स्क्वायर किलोमीटर के एरे प्रोजेक्ट के फंडिंग में लगाएगी, जिसके तहत एक रेडियो टेलीस्कोप स्थापित किया जाएगा जो अंतरिक्ष से भारी मात्रा में डेटा इकट्ठा करेगा और काफी अधिक कंप्यूटिंग संसाधनों से परिपूर्ण होगा।

2016 तुर्की की राजधानी अंकारा में हुए एक आत्मघाती बम विस्फोट में 37 लोग मारे गये और अनेक घायल हुए।
