1930 महात्मा गांधी ने गुजरात के साबरमती आश्रम से दांडी मार्च की शुरुआत की। गांधी और उनके अनुयायियों ने 12 मार्च 1930 को दांडी मार्च शुरू किया था। इनका मुख्य उद्देश्य था अंग्रेजों द्वारा बनाए गए ‘नमक कानून को तोड़ना’। गांधी और उनके काफिले ने साबरमती में अपने आश्रम से समुद्र की ओर चलना शुरू किया। आंदोलन की शुरुआत में 78 सत्याग्रहियों के साथ दांडी कूच के लिए निकले बापू के साथ दांडी पहुंचते-पहुंचते जनता भी शामिल हो गई। 25 दिन बाद 6 अप्रैल, 1930 को दांडी पहुंचकर उन्होंने समुद्र तट पर नमक कानून तोड़ा। महात्मा गांधी ने दांडी यात्रा के दौरान सूरत, डिंडौरी, वांज, धमन के बाद नवसारी को यात्रा के आखिरी दिनों में अपना पड़ाव डाला। यहां से कराडी और दांडी की यात्रा पूरी की थी। यह मार्च लगभग 390 किलोमीटर का सफर तय कर दांडी पहुंचा। ब्रिटिश सरकार का चाय, कपड़ा और यहां तक की नमक जैसी चीजों पर भी एकाधिकार था। ब्रिटिश राज में भारतीयों को नमक बनाने का अधिकार नहीं था, उन्हें इंग्लैंड से आने वाले नमक के लिए कई गुना ज्यादा पैसे देने होते थे। दांडी मार्च के बाद अगले कुछ महीनों में 80,000 भारतीयों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। इससे एक चिंगारी भड़की, जो आगे चलकर सविनय अवज्ञा आंदोलन में बदल गई।

1938 जर्मनी ने ऑस्ट्रिया पर हमला किया।

1942 ब्रिटिश सैनिकों ने अंडमान द्वीप खाली किया।

1969 डांडिया क्वीन कही गई प्रसिद्ध भारतीय गायिका, संगीतज्ञ फाल्गुनी पाठक का जन्म हुआ।

1970 अमेरिका में मतदान की न्यूनतम उम्र 21 वर्ष से घटा कर 18 वर्ष की गयी।

1982 जाने माने टेलीविजन धारावाहिक अभिनेता और माॅडल पीयूष सहदेव का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1984 बॉलीवुड की आज की प्रमुख, लोकप्रिय एवं सबसे ज्यादा कमाई करने वाली पाश्र्व गायिका श्रेया घोषाल का जन्म बहरामपुर पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ।

1991 जानी मानी बोल्ड, खूबसूरत अभिनेत्री और माॅडल कायरा दत्त का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। देबी दत्ता इनका वास्तविक नाम है। यह माॅडल भारतीय बैंकों का 9000 करोड़ से अधिक रुपया मारकर लंदन भागे शराब कारोबारी विजय माल्या की कंपनी किंगफिशर की कैलेंडर गर्ल हुईं।

1992 मारिशस गणराज्य घोषित हुआ।

1993 मुंबई में हुए सिलसिलेवार बम धमाकों में 300 लोग मारे गए और सैकड़ों से अधिक घायल हो गए। 6 दिसंबर 1992 को अयोध्या में राम मंदिर आंदोलन के कार्यकर्ताओं ने बाबरी मस्जिद को ढहा दिया था। वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता लाल कृष्ण आडवाणी के नेतृत्व में उग्र राजनीतिक, राम मंदिर आंदोलन चला जिसमें मुसलमानों के खिलाफ व्यापक पैमाने पर नफरत फैलाई गई। बाबरी मस्जिद गिरने के बाद देश के कई हिस्सों में हिंसा भड़की थी। मुंबई में भी सांप्रदायिक दंगे हुए। 12 मार्च 1993 को मुंबई में स्टॉक एक्सचेंज सहित 13 जगहों पर ब्लास्ट हुए। इसमें 257 लोगों की मौत हुई। 700 से ज्यादा घायल हुए। बॉम्बे स्टॉक एक्सचेंज की 28-मंजिला इमारत के बेसमेंट में दोपहर डेढ़ बजे धमाका हुआ जिसमें लगभग 50 लोग मारे गए थे। इसके आधे घंटे बाद एक कार धमाका हुआ और अगले दो घंटे से कम समय में कुल 13 धमाके हो चुके थे। करीब 27 करोड़ रुपए की संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंचा था। मामले में 4 नवंबर 1993 को 189 आरोपियों के खिलाफ 10,000 पन्ने की प्राथमिक चार्जशीट दायर की गई थी। 19 नवंबर 1993 को यह मामला सीबीआई को सौंप दिया गया था। 19 अप्रैल 1995 को मुंबई की टाडा अदालत में इस मामले की सुनवाई शुरू हुई थी। सितंबर 2006 में अदालत ने अपने फैसले देने शुरू किए। इस मामले में 123 अभियुक्त थे, जिनमें से 12 को निचली अदालत ने मौत की सजा सुनाई थी। 68 लोगों को उम्रकैद से कम की सजा सुनाई गई थी जबकि 23 लोगों को निर्दोष माना गया था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने याकूब मेमन को छोड़कर बाकी सभी लोगों की फांसी को उम्रकैद में बदल दिया था। याकूब को 2015 में फांसी पर चढ़ाया गया। इस बम कांड की निष्पक्ष जांच हुई नहीं, जो जांच रिपोर्ट आई उसे मानने से इनकार कर दिया गया। ऐसा सुनने में आया कि वास्तविक दोषी वह नहीं जो बताए गये। इशारा श्विसेना और संघियों की ओर था।

1995 वेस्टइंडीज के बल्लेबाज ब्रायन लारा ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया के खिलाफ पोर्ट ऑफ स्पेन में वनडे में 139 रन बनाए।

2009 भारतीय वायुसेना में आपरेशंस निदेशालय के पहले महानिदेशक एयर मार्शल डीसी कुमारिया ने कार्यभार ग्रहण किया।

2014 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बराक हुसैन ओबामा यूक्रेन के कार्यवाहक प्रधानमंत्री, यात्सेनुक से मिले और यूक्रेन का साथ देने, रूस के साथ संघर्ष करने पर सहमति दी। 2014 में इसी दिन कश्मीर में भारी हिमपात और हिमस्खलन की वजह से भारत-पाकिस्तान में 14 लोगों की मौत।

2018 महाराष्ट्र में हजारों किसानों ने अपनी विभिन्न मांगों को लेकर मुंबई के लिए मार्च शुरू किया। इसी दिन नेपाल के त्रिभुवन अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे के निकट यूएस-बांग्ला एयरलाइन्स का विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हुआ, जिसमें करीब 51 लोगों की मृत्यु हुई।

1930 Mahatma Gandhi begins the Dandi March from the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. Gandhi and his followers started the Dandi March on 12 March 1930. Their main aim was to 'break the salt law' made by the British. Gandhi and his convoy started walking towards the sea from his ashram at Sabarmati. At the beginning of the movement, along with 78 Satyagrahis, the public also joined Bapu while reaching Dandi along with Bapu. 1982 Piyush Sahdev, well-known television serial actor and model, was born in Delhi.

1984 Shreya Ghoshal, today's leading, popular and highest earning playback singer of Bollywood, was born in Baharampur, West Bengal.

1991 Kyra Dutt, well-known bold, beautiful actress and model, was born in Calcutta. Debi Dutta is her real name. This model became the calendar girl of Vijay Mallya's company Kingfisher, who fled to London after defrauding Indian banks of more than Rs 9000 crore.

1993 Mumbai serial blasts kill 300 people and injure hundreds more. On 6 December 1992, the Babri Masjid was demolished by the activists of the Ram Mandir movement in Ayodhya. The fiercely political, Ram Mandir movement, led by senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, fueled widespread hatred against Muslims. Violence broke out in many parts of the country after the Babri Masjid fell. Communal riots also took place in Mumbai. On March 12, 1993, there were blasts at 13 places including the Stock Exchange in Mumbai. 257 people died in this. More than 700 were injured. About 50 people were killed in a blast in the basement of the 28-storey Bombay Stock Exchange building at 1.30 pm. Half an hour later there was a car blast and in less than two hours there were 13 blasts in total. Property worth about Rs 27 crore was damaged. A 10,000-page preliminary charge sheet was filed in the case on 4 November 1993 against 189 accused. The case was handed over to the CBI on 19 November 1993. On 19 April 1995, the hearing of this case started in the TADA court of Mumbai. In September 2006 the court started giving its verdicts. There were 123 accused in the case, of whom 12 were sentenced to death by the trial court. 68 people were sentenced to less than life imprisonment while 23 people were presumed innocent. The Supreme Court had commuted the death sentence of all the people except Yakub Memon to life imprisonment. Yakub was hanged in 2015. There was no fair investigation of this bomb case, the investigation report that came was refused to be accepted. It is heard that the real culprit is not the one who was told. The reference was towards the Schwissena and the Sanghis.
