1316 दिल्ली में अलाउद्दीन खिलजी का निधन हुआ। यह खिलजी वंश के सुल्तान हुए।

1322 अपने सौतेले भाई स्टीफन कांस्टेनटाइन को युद्ध में पराजित करने के बाद स्टीफन डेंकस्की सर्बिया का राजा बना।

1449 कॉन्सटेंटाइन ग्यारहवें पैलियोलोस को बीजान्टिन-रोमन सम्राट का ताज पहनाया गया।

1664 छत्रपति शिवाजी ने सूरत पर हमला किया।

1773 मैसाचुसेट्स में गुलामों ने आजादी के लिए विधान मंडल के समक्ष याचिका दायर की।

1786 बाहरी बाउंड ईस्ट इंडियन हाल्सवेल को इंग्लैंड के दक्षिण तट पर एक तूफान में बर्बाद कर दिया गया था, जिसमें 240 में से केवल 74 लोग ही जीवित बचे थे।

1824 फ्रांस के विश्व विख्यात लेखक और साहित्यकार एलेक्जेंडर ड्यूमा कनिष्ठ का पेरिस में जन्म हुआ।

1832 गुलामी उन्मूलनवादी विलियम लॉयड गैरीसन ने न्यू इंग्लैंड विरोधी गुलामता समाज की स्थापना की।

1838 सैमुअल मोर्स और उनके सहायक अल्फ्रेड वेल ने पहली बार अमेरिका के न्यू जर्सी के मॉरिसटाउन, स्पीडवेल आयरन वर्क्स में विद्युत टेलीग्राफ का सफलतापूर्वक परीक्षण किया।

1847 प्रसिद्ध कन्नड़ कवि तथा कर्नाटक संगीतज्ञ त्यागराज का निधन हुआ।

1861 रोमानिया देश अस्तित्व में आया।

1883 विश्व विख्यात कथाकार, आलोचक, चिंतक, कवि खलील जिब्रान का जन्म हुआ।

1885 भारतेन्दु हरिश्चंद्र का निधन हुआ। वे आधुनिक हिन्दी साहित्य के प्रवर्तक थे, जिन्होंने हरिश्चंद्र मैगजीन, कविवचन सुधा आदि पत्रिकाएं निकालीं तथा अंधेरनगरी, भारत दुर्दशा आदि अनेक नाटक लिखे।

1896 पहली अमेरिकी महिलाओं की छह दिवसीय साइकिल दौड़ मैडिसन स्क्वायर गार्डन में शुरू की गयी।

1932 हिंदी के प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार, पत्रकार, टेलीविजन शो निर्माता संपादक कमलेश्वर यानी कमलेश्वर प्रसाद सक्सेना का मैनपुरी उत्तर प्रदेश में जन्म हुआ।

1907 इतालवी शिक्षाविद मारिया मोंटेसरी ने शिक्षा के दर्शन को नियोजित करते हुए रोम में काम करने वाले बच्चों के लिए पहला स्कूल और डेकेयर सेंटर खोला।

1910 भारतीय कर्नाटक संगीतकार जी. एन. बालासुब्रमनियम का जन्म हुआ।

1912 एल्फ्रेड वेगेनर ने महाद्वीपीय विस्थापन के सिद्धान्त को प्रस्तुत किया।

1913 पौलैण्ड के प्रथम सचिव एडवर्ड गिरेक का जन्म हुआ।

1918 बॉलीवुड के प्रसिद्ध गीतकार भरत व्यास का जन्म हुआ। जर्मनी ने फिनलैंड की स्वतंत्रता को 1918 में इसी दिन मान्यता दी।

1919 अमरीका के 26वें राष्ट्रपति थ्योडर रोजवेल्ट का निधन हुआ।

1928 प्रख्यात हास्य व्यंग्य अभिनेता और फिल्मकार चार्ली चैपलिन की मूक कॉमेडी फिल्म द सर्कस का प्रीमियर न्यूयॉर्क शहर में स्ट्रैंड थिएटर में हुआ। 1928 में इसी दिन विख्यात भारतीय, लेखक, नाटककार और रंगमंचकर्मी विजय तेंदुलकर का जन्म हुआ।

1929 मदर टेरेसा भारत में रोगियों और गरीब लोगों की सेवा करने के लिए कोलकाता पहुंचीं।

1939 समाचार पत्रों में प्रतिदिन प्रकाशित कॉमिक स्ट्रिप सुपरमैन की शुरुआत हुई।

1940 राष्ट्रीय स्वयं सेवक संघ की विचारधारा प्रसिद्ध हिंदी लेखक नरेन्द्र कोहली का जन्म हुआ।

1946 वियतनाम में पहले आम चुनाव हुए।

1947 अखिल भारतीय कांग्रेस कमेटी ने भारत के विभाजन का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार किया।

1950 ब्रिटेन ने चीन की कम्युनिस्ट सरकार को मान्यता प्रदान किया।

1955 मिस्टर बीन के किरदार से दुनिया भर का ध्यान खींचने वाले सर रोवन सेबेस्टियन का जन्म हुआ।

1959 विख्यात भारतीय क्रिकेटर और बाद में कमेंटेटर तथा खेल समीक्षक हुए कपिल देव का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी के प्रमुख हत्यारे बेअंत सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1962 जानी मानी सिने अभिनेत्री बिंदिया गोस्वामी का जन्म हुआ।

1965 हिमाचल प्रदेश के प्रमुख भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता, मुख्यमंत्री रहे और वर्तमान में नेता प्रतिपक्ष जयराम ठाकुर का जन्म हुआ।

1967 मशहूर संगीतकार एआर यानी अल्लाह रक्खा रहमान का जन्म हुआ।

1971 चर्चित बंगाली सिने अभिनेत्री इंद्रानी हालदार का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ। भारत में पहले निर्दलीय मुख्यमंत्री हुए मधु कोड़ा का जन्म झारखंड के गुआ में हुआ। वे फिलहाल कांग्रेस पार्टी में हैं। इसी दिन जानी मानी भारतीय फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन शो निर्मात्री, लेखिका, निर्देशिका लीना यादव का मध्य प्रदेश के महू में जन्म हुआ।

1973 प्रमुख बंगाली फिल्म अभिनेता रुद्रानिल घोष का हावड़ा में जन्म हुआ।

1976 चीन ने लोप नोर क्षेत्र में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1977 रॉक बैंड सेक्स पिस्टल्स के सार्वजनिक तौर पर खराब बर्ताव के कारण उनके साथ अपना करार रद्द कर दिया।

1980 सातवीं लोक सभा चुनाव में इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी गांधी की नेतृत्व वाली कांग्रेस पार्टी को दो तिहाई बहुमत मिला।

1983 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस को पहली बार आंध्र प्रदेश और कर्नाटक विधानसभा चुनावों में हार का सामना करना पड़ा।

1984 जाने माने पंजाबी फिल्म अभिनेता, फिल्मकार, गायक और टेलीविजन हस्ती दिलजीत दोसांझ का पंजाब के दोसांझ में जन्म हुआ।

1987 कैलिफोर्निया विश्वविद्यालय के खगोलशास्त्रियों ने 12 अरब प्रकाश वर्ष दूर आकाशगंगा के निर्माण की पहली झलक देखी। 1987 में इसी दिन भारतीय संगीतकार तथा अभिनेता जयदेव का निधन हुआ।

1989 जानी मानी, लोकप्रिय खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय, तमिल, तेलुगू फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल हिबाह पटेल का बंबई में जन्म हुआ।

1989 प्रधानमंत्री श्रीमती इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी गांधी की हत्या के दोनों दोषियों सतवंत सिंह और केहर सिंह को फांसी दी गई। यह खालिस्तानी उग्रवादियों से प्रभावित थे जिन्होंने 1980 और 90 के दशक में उत्तर भारत में कहर बरपा रखा था। प्रधानमंत्री गांधी ने खालिस्तानी आतंकी प्रमुख जरनैल सिंह भिंडरावाले को पकड़ने के लिए स्वर्ण मंदिर में फौज उतार दी थी। दोनों ओर से चली गोलियों में भिंडरावाले और उसके कई समर्थक मारे गये। इसका खामियाजा गांधी को 1984 की 31 अक्टूबर की सुबह अपने अंगरक्षकों बेअंत सिंह और सतवंत सिंह के हाथों हत्या के रूप में भुगतना पड़ा।

1990 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर अभिनव मुकुंद का मद्रास में जन्म हुआ।

2002 भारत ने सीमा में घुस आया पाकिस्तान का जासूसी विमान मार गिराया, दक्षेस शिखर सम्मेलन सम्पन्न, काठमाण्डू घोषणा-पत्र में आतंकवाद की समाप्ति पर जोर दिया। भारत की राजनीतिक सफलता, ब्रिटेन के प्रधानमंत्री टोनी ब्लेयर व भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी की बातचीत के बाद दिल्ली घोषणा-पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर हुए और इसी दिन बांग्लादेश की मुद्रा से शेख मुजीब का चित्र हटाया गया।

2003 रूस ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से बिना अनुमति लिये इराक के विरुद्ध सैनिक कार्रवाई पर अमेरिका को चेतावनी दी।

2007 उत्तर प्रदेश के हिंदी संस्थान की ओर से साहित्य के क्षेत्र में दिये जाने वाले वार्षिक पुरस्कारों के अंतर्गत वर्ष 2007 के भारत भारती सम्मान केदारनाथ सिंह को प्रदान करने की घोषणा हुई।

2008 राज्यसभा सदस्य और बंगलुरू के उद्यमी तथा पूंजी और निवेश कंपनी जूपिटर कैपिटल के अध्यक्ष एवं मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी राजीव चन्द्रशेखर को फिक्की का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया। अमेरिका के पश्चिमी तटीय क्षेत्र में आए तूफान से भारी तबाही। 2008 में प्रसिद्ध भारतीय चिकित्सक प्रमोद करण सेठी का निधन हुआ।

2009 जम्मू-कश्मीर के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री गुलाम मोहम्मद शाह का निधन हुआ।

2010 यूरोप भर में अत्यधिक ठंड के कारण पोलैंड में 122 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 7 हिमस्खलन के परिणामस्वरूप स्विट्जरलैंड में मर गए। 2010 में इसी दिन नई दिल्ली में यमुना बैंक-आनंद विहार सेक्शन की मेट्रो रेलों का परिचालन आरंभ हुआ।

2012 सीरिया की राजधानी दमिश्क में हुए आत्मघाती हमले में 26 लोगों की मौत हुई और 63 घायल हुए।

2013 फिलिस्तीनी राष्ट्रीय प्राधिकरण के अध्यक्ष महमूद अब्बास ने घोषणा की कि आधिकारिक दस्तावेज को फिलिस्तीन के राज्य शब्दों का उपयोग करना चाहिए।

2014 जेनेट येलेन अमेरिकी फेडरल रिजर्व की अध्यक्ष बनीं। वह चेयरमैन का पद संभालने वाली पहली महिला हैं।

2016 उत्तर कोरिया ने सफलतापूर्वक एक थर्मोन्यूक्लियर हथियार का परीक्षण किया।

2017 हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध चरित्र अभिनेता ओम पुरी का निधन हुआ।

2020 पुरुषों के साथ बलात्कार करने वाले इंडोनेशियाई नागरिक रिनहार्ड सिनागा को ब्रिटेन की अदालत ने उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई।

In the 1980 Seventh Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party led by Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi won a two-thirds majority.

1983 The Indian National Congress was defeated for the first time in the Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka assembly elections.

1984 Diljit Dosanjh, noted Punjabi film actor, filmmaker, singer and television personality, was born in Dosanjh, Punjab.

1987 Astronomers at the University of California catch the first glimpse of the formation of a galaxy 12 billion light-years away.

1989 Hibah Patel, well known, popular, beautiful, bold South Indian, Tamil, Telugu film actress and model, was born in Bombay.

1989 Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh, both convicted for the assassination of Prime Minister Smt. Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi, were hanged. It was influenced by the Khalistani militants who wreaked havoc in North India in the 1980s and 90s. Prime Minister Gandhi had landed the army in the Golden Temple to catch Khalistani terrorist chief Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Bhindranwale and many of his supporters were killed in the firing from both sides. Gandhi had to bear the brunt of this in the form of assassination on the morning of 31 October 1984 at the hands of his bodyguards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh.

1990 Abhinav Mukund, noted Indian cricketer, was born in Madras.

2002 India shot down Pakistan's spy plane that entered the border, SAARC summit concluded, Kathmandu declaration emphasized the end of terrorism.
