 1721 मराठा साम्राज्य के प्रसिद्ध पेशवा बालाजी बाजीराव का जन्म हुआ।

1863 चिली की राजधानी सेंटियागो स्थित जेसूइट गिरजाघर में आग लगने से ढाई हजार लोगों की मौत हुई।

1875 उदारवादी नेता तेज बहादुर सप्रू का जन्म हुआ।

1877 प्रसिद्ध मराठी विद्वान नारायण शास्त्री मराठे का जन्म हुआ।

1881 ऑस्ट्रिया की राजधानी विएना में थियेटर में आग लगने से 800 से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत हुई।

1897 प्रख्यात हिंदी कवि, गद्यकार और अद्वितीय वक्ता बालकृष्ण शर्मा नवीन का जन्म हुआ।

1900 भारत के प्रसिद्ध शास्त्रीय नर्तक, नृत्य निर्देशक और और बैले निर्माता उदय शंकर का जन्म हुआ।

1901 स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी, पत्रकार, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता तथा सांसद हुए अमरनाथ विद्यालंकार का जन्म हुआ।

1914 फॉकलैंड का जल युद्ध एटलांटिक महासागर में इसी नाम के द्वीपों के आस पास ब्रिटेन और जर्मनी के बीच लड़ा गया।

1923 जर्मनी और अमेरिका के बीच मित्रता संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए गये।

1927 शिरोमणि अकाली दल के मुखिया और कई बार पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री रहे प्रकाश सिंह बादल का जन्म हुआ।

1931 दूरसंचार में उपयोग होने वाले कोएक्सिएल केबल का अमेरिका में पेटेंट कराया गया।

1934 इंग्लैंड और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच साप्ताहिक हवाई डाक सेवा शुरू हुई।

1935 बाॅलीवुड हिंदी फिल्मों के लोकप्रिय अभिनेता धर्मेन्द्र का जन्म हुआ।

1941 अमेरिका और ब्रिटेन ने जापान के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1944 लोकप्रिय खूबसूत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री, माॅडल अभिनेत्री शर्मिला टैगोर का जन्म हुआ। शर्मिला विख्यात क्रिकेटर मंसूर अली खां पटौदी की पत्नी, मशहूर अभिनेता सैफ अली खां की मां और आज की चर्चित अभिनेत्री सारा अली खां की दादी हैं।

1947 स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी भाई परमानन्द का निधन हुआ।

1956 ऑस्ट्रेलिया के मेलबर्न शहर में सोलहवें ओलंपिक खेल का समापन हुआ।

1960 हयातो इकादा ने जापान के प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में अपना दूसरा कार्यकाल शुरू किया।

1967 प्रथम भारतीय पनडुब्बी आईएनएस कालवरी को सेना में शामिल किया गया।

1978 इजराइल की चतुर्थ प्रधानमंत्री गोल्डा मायर का निधन हुआ।

1980 विश्व प्रसिद्ध संगीत बैंड बीटल के सदस्य जॉन लेनन को न्यूयॉर्क स्थित उनके अपार्टमेंट के बाहर एक अज्ञात बंदूकधारी ने गोली मार दी थी। लेनन बीटल के संस्थापक थे। 1960 के दशक में उनका बैंड हिट रहा, तो 1970 के दशक में उन्होंने बैंड से अलग भी अपनी पहचान बनाई। लेनन का हत्यारा फेमस होना चाहता था, इसलिए उसने एक सूची बनाई जिसमें एलिजाबेथ टेलर, रोनाल्ड रीगन जैसे दिग्गजों के नाम शामिल थे। 2000 में रिहा होने के बाद लेनन के हत्यारे चैपमेन ने कहा कि मैं मशहूर होना चाहता था। मुझे लगा कि लेनन को मारकर मैं फेमस हो जाऊंगा, मैं कुछ बनना चाहता था, लेकिन मैं हत्यारा बन गया और हत्यारे कुछ नहीं होते हैं।

1983 ब्रिटिश संसद के उच्च सदन हाउस ऑफ लॉर्ड्स ने सदन की कार्यवाही टेलिविजन पर सीधे दिखाने के पक्ष मेंमतदान किया था।

1984 दक्षिण की प्रमुख फिल्म अभिनेत्री हम्सा नंदिनी का जन्म हुआ।

1987 अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति रोनाल्ड रीगन और सोवियत नेता मिखाइल गोर्बाचेव ने परमाणु हथियारों में कटौती की संधि पर दस्तखत किए।

1992 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड कन्नड़, तेलुगू आदि दक्षिण फिल्म जगत की प्रमुख अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल शान्वी श्रीवास्तव का जन्म हुआ।

1995 चीन ने विवादास्पद रूप से 6 वर्षीय बालक झेनकेन नोरबू की पंचेन लामा के अवतार के रूप में ताजपोशी की एवं मान्यता दी।

1998 सेना के पूर्व लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल ह्यूगो शावेज वेनेजुएला के नये राष्ट्रपति बने और वेनेजुएला ने वामपंथी, समाजवादी रास्ते पर चलना शुरु किया।

1998 ओलंपिक के इतिहास में पहली बार महिला आइस हॉकी शामिल गया था। फिनलैंड ने पहले मुकाबले में स्वीडन को 6-0 से हराया।

2000 ब्रिटेन और रूस के मध्य रक्षा समझौता सम्पन्न हुआ। इसी दिन फ्रांस के वैज्ञानिकों ने अल्जाईमर का नया उपचार गोलनेटमाइन’खोजा। इसी दिन युगांडा में खतरनाक इबोला वायरस के पीड़ितों की संख्या 400 के पार पहुंची जिसमें 160 लोगों की मौत हो गयी।

2002 भारत की पारम्परिक जैव सम्पदा नीम, हल्दी और जामुनके बाद गौमूत्र को अमेरिका ने पेटेंट किया।

2003 निलंबन की अवधि बढ़ाये जाने के बाद जिम्बाव्वे ने राष्ट्रकुल से अपने को अलग करने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन मध्य प्रदेश के ग्वालियर राजघराने की सदस्या भाजपा नेत्री वसुंधरा राजे सिंधिया राजस्थान के मुख्यमंत्री पद पर आसीन हुईं। इसी दिन भाजपा नेत्री उमा भारती मध्य प्रदेश की मुख्यमंत्री बनीं।

2004 पाकिस्तान ने 700 कि.मी. की दूरी तक मार करने वाली शाहीन-1 मिसाइल का सफल परीक्षण किया।

2005 रेडक्रास और रेडक्रीसेंट सोसाइटी ने सफेद पृष्ठभूमि में हीरे के आकार के एक लाल क्रिस्टल को नये अतिरिक्त चिह्न के रूप में स्वीकार किया।

2007 अमेरिका के नेतृत्व वाली गठबंधन सेना और नाटो सेनाओं ने दक्षिणी अफगानिस्तान के मूसा कला जिले में तालिबानी आतंकवादियों पर हमले किये।

2009 इराक के बगदाद में बम विस्फोट से 127 लोग मारे गए और 448 घायल हुए।

2010 अमेरिका की एयरोस्पेस कंपनी स्पेस-एक्स ने अपना यान अंतरिक्ष में भेजा। ऐसा करने वाली वह दुनिया की पहली निजी कंपनी बनी। यह यान कक्षा में सफलतापूर्वक छोड़ा गया और अपनी कार्य अवधि पूरी करने के बाद वापस सुरक्षित लौट।

2015 जनकवि रमाशंकर यादव विद्रोही का निधन हुआ।

2019 फिनलैंड की सना मारिन 34 साल की उम्र में दुनिया की सबसे युवा प्रधानमंत्री चुनी गईं। इससे पहले यूक्रेन के 35 साल के ओलेक्सी होन्चेरुक सबसे युवा प्रधानमंत्री थे।

2019 दिल्ली में अनाज मंडी के रिहायशी इलाके में स्थित एक स्कूल बैग बनाने वाले फैक्ट्री में भीषण आग लगने से 43 लोगों की मौत हुई।

The 1914 Falklands Water Battle was fought between Britain and Germany around the islands of the same name in the Atlantic Ocean.

1923 Friendship treaty was signed between Germany and America.

1927 Parkash Singh Badal, chief of the Shiromani Akali Dal and several times Chief Minister of Punjab, was born.

1931 Coaxial cable, used in telecommunications, was patented in the US.

1934 Weekly air mail service started between England and Australia.

1935 Dharmendra, popular Bollywood Hindi film actor, was born.

1941 America and Britain declare war on Japan.

1944 Sharmila Tagore, popularly beautiful, bold actress, model, was born. Sharmila is the wife of famous cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, mother of famous actor Saif Ali Khan and grandmother of today's famous actress Sara Ali Khan.

1947 Freedom Fighter Bhai Parmanand passed away.

1956 The sixteenth Olympic Games concluded in the city of Melbourne, Australia.

1960 Hayato Ikada begins his second term as Prime Minister of Japan.

1967 The first Indian submarine INS Kalvari was inducted into the Army.

1978 Golda Meir, the fourth Prime Minister of Israel, passed away.

1980 John Lennon, a member of the world famous music band the Beatles, was shot by an unknown gunman outside his New York apartment. Lennon was the founder of the Beatles. His band was a hit in the 1960s, so in the 1970s he made his mark apart from the band. Lennon's killer wanted to be famous, so he made a list that included names of legends like Elizabeth Taylor, Ronald Reagan. After his release in 2000, Chapman, Lennon's killer, said that I wanted to be famous. I thought I would become famous by killing Lennon, I wanted to be something, but I became a murderer and murderers are nothing.
