1662 फ्रांस के महान गणितज्ञ, लेखक और कैल्कयुलेटर मशीन के आविष्कारक ब्लेज पास्कल का निधन हुआ।

1732 लंदन स्थित थियेटर रॉयल कोवेन्ट गार्डन (आधुनिक-रोज रॉयल ओपेरा हाउस) खोला गया।

1782 18वीं शताब्दी के मध्य एक वीर योद्धा और मैसूर के सुल्तान हैदर अली का निधन हुआ।

1825 भाप की शक्ति से चलने वाला पहला जहाज इंटरप्राइज कलकत्ता पहुंचा।

1856 भारत में पहली बार आधिकारिक रूप से हिंदू विधवा का विवाह ब्रिटिश शासन में कराया गया।

1877 विश्व प्रसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक, आविष्कारक थॉमस अल्वा एडिसन ने ग्रामोफोन का प्रदर्शन किया।

1879 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रांतिकारी, बंगाल में स्वतंत्रता संग्राम हेतु अग्रणी संगठनकर्ता जुगांतर पार्टी के नेता यतीन्द्रनाथ या जतीन्द्रनाथ मुखर्जी का कुश्तिया, बांग्लादेश में जन्म हुआ।

1787 डेलावेयर राज्य यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स अमेरिकी संविधान की पुष्टि करने वाला पहला प्रांत बना।

1888 स्काॅटिश आविष्कारक जॉन बॉयड डनलप ने हवा वाली साइकिल टायर का अविष्कार किया।

1889 आधुनिक भारतीय संस्कृतिविद और समाजशास्त्री राधाकमल मुखर्जी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1889 में विश्व की पहली ईंधन चलित रेल गाड़ी जर्मनी के एक वैज्ञानिक कार्ल फ्रेडरिक बेंज ने बनाई। इस गाड़ी की गति 12 किलोमीटर प्रतिघंटा थी और ईंधन के रुप में पेट्रोल अथवा एलकोहल का प्रयोग होता था। वर्तमान काल की बसें उस गाड़ी का संपूर्ण रुप हैं।

1908 रामभक्त संत समर्थ रामदास के परम शिष्य भक्त कवि, संत श्रीधर स्वामी महाराज का जन्म लाडचिंचोली, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1917 अमेरिका प्रथम विश्व युद्ध का हिस्सा बना और उसने ऑस्ट्रिया-हंगरी पर हमला किया।

1921 गुजरात के वडोदरा जिले के चनसाड में बोचसन्यासी अक्षर पुरुषोत्तम स्वामिनारायण संस्था के प्रमुख हिंदू धर्म गुरु स्वामी महाराज नारायणस्वरूपदास स्वामी यानी शांतिलाल पटेल का जन्म हुआ।

1924 पुर्तगाल के राष्ट्रपति हुए मारियो सोरेस का जन्म हुआ।

1936 ऑस्ट्रेलियाई क्रिकेटर जैक फ्लिंगटन लगातार चार टेस्ट पारियों में शतक लगाने वाले दुनिया के पहले खिलाड़ी बने. इनमें से 3 शतक दक्षिण अफ्रीका और 1 इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ आया।

1941 दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान जापान ने अमेरिका के पर्ल हार्बर पर मशहूर हवाई हमला किया।

1944 भारत के जाने माने योगाचार्य बीकेएस आयंगर की बेटी महिलाओं को योग में खासतौर पर शिक्षित करने वाली गीता आयंगर का जन्म पुणे में हुआ। इसी दिन जनरल रादेस्कू ने रोमानिया में सरकार का गठन किया।

1949 भारत ने भारतीय सशस्त्र बल झंडा दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत हुई।

1960 प्रमुख भारतीय कारोबारी सुनील कांत मुंजाल का जन्म हुआ। वे दोपहिया वाहन निर्माता कंपनी हीरो मोटोकाॅर्प के मालिकों में से एक हैं। इसी दिन भारत के प्रसिद्ध अमीर, कारोबारी और उद्योगपति घराने थापर समूह के अवंता समूह के मुखिया गौतम थापर का जन्म हुआ।

1966 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने एटीएस-1 सैटेलाइट प्रक्षेपित किया। सैटेलाइट में ब्लैक एंड व्हाइट वेदर कैमरा फिट किया गया था, जिसने पृथ्वी और चांद की साथ में तस्वीर ली थी। ये ऐसी पहली तस्वीर है, जिसमें पृथ्वी और चांद साथ में दिख रहे थे। एटीएस-1 ने जब ये तस्वीर क्लिक की थी, तब वह पृथ्वी से करीब 35,888 किमी और चांद से 4.34 लाख किमी दूर था। पृथ्वी और चांद की साथ में ये तस्वीर 22 दिसंबर 1966 को मिली थी। 12 साल तक काम करने के बाद 1 दिसंबर 1978 को एटीएस-1 निष्क्रिय हो गया। इसका कम्युनिकेशन हार्डवेयर 1985 तक काम करता रहा।

1970 पश्चिम जर्मनी और पोलैंड के बीच संबंध सामान्य हुए। इसी दिन 1970 में जाने माने अभिनेता और स्टेंडअप काॅमेडियन अली असगर का जन्म हुआ।

1971 पाकिस्तान में राष्ट्रपति याहया खान ने गठबंधन सरकार बनाने का ऐलान किया जिसमें नुरुल अमीन पीएम तो जुल्फीकार अली भुट्टो उप-प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1972 अमेरिका ने चंद्रमा के लिये अपने अभियान में अपोलो 17 का प्रक्षेपण किया। 7 दिसंबर 1972 को नासा के आखिरी मैन्ड मिशन अपोलो-17 के क्रू ने स्पेसक्राफ्ट से पृथ्वी की सबसे शानदार तस्वीर खींची थी। इस शानदार तस्वीर को ब्लू मार्बल कहते हैं। इस तस्वीर की खासियत यह थी कि ये पहली बार था जब पृथ्वी की किसी तस्वीर में साउथ पोल भी नजर आया था। हालांकि, ये पूरा बादलों से ही घिरा दिख रहा था। लेकिन अफ्रीका इसमें एकदम साफ नजर आ रहा था। नासा के चांद पर उसके आखिरी मैन्ड मिशन अपोलो-17 के क्रू में यूजेन सेरनान, रोनाल्ड इवांस और हैरिसन श्मिट थे शामिल। इसी क्रू ने ब्लू मार्बल नाम से पृथ्वी की सबसे सुंदर तस्वीर खींची थी। नासा ने इस तस्वीर का क्रेडिट अपोलो-17 की क्रू को दिया था। ये तस्वीर अपोलो-17 मिशन लॉन्च होने के 5 घंटे 6 मिनट बाद ही खींची गई थी। इस तस्वीर को 70 मिमी के हेसलब्लेड कैमरे से लिया गया था, जिसमें 80 मिमी का लेंस लगा था। तस्वीर लेने से दो दिन पहले ही 5 दिसंबर को तमिलनाडु में एक साइक्लोन भी आया था और इस तस्वीर में वो भी दिख रहा था।

1975 तेलुगू के जाने माने फिल्मकार सुरेंदर रेड्डी का करीमनगर में जन्म हुआ।

1977 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय राजनीतिज्ञ और बिहार के दूसरे मुख्यमंत्री हुए दीप नारायण सिंह का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन 1977 में जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता राहुल भट का जन्म हुआ।

1979 जाने माने भारतीय इलैक्ट्रानिक संगीतज्ञ न्यूक्लिया यानी उद्यन सागर का जन्म आगरा में हुआ।

1982 अमेरिका के मौत की सजा पाए चार्ल्स ब्रुक्स को जहरीले इंजेक्शन से मौत की नींद सुलाया गया। ब्रुक्स को एक ऑटो मैकेनिक डेविड ग्रेगरी की हत्या का दोषी पाए जाने के बाद मौत की सजा सुनाई गई थी। हत्या में ब्रुक्स के साथ ही वुडी लाउड्रेस को भी मौत की सजा सुनाई गई थी। बाद में लाउड्रेस की सजा कम हो गई, लेकिन चार्ल्स ब्रुक्स की मौत की सजा बरकरार रही। यह अलग बात है कि हत्या से जुड़ा हथियार कभी बरामद नहीं हो सका और अधिकारियों ने कभी यह निर्धारित नहीं किया कि ग्रेगरी को किसने गोली मारी। जहरीले इंजेक्शन को फांसी की अन्य विधियों, जैसे गैस, बिजली के झटके या लटकाने की तुलना में अधिक मानवीय माना जाता था। इसके पीछे तर्क ये था कि इस इंजेक्शन में इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली दवाओं में से एक से गहरी बेहोशी आ जाती है, इससे मरने वाले को दर्द नहीं होता। हालांकि नैतिकता का उल्लंघन मानते हुए कई डॉक्टर जहरीले इंजेक्शन के विरोध में थे लेकिन बावजूद इसके इसे स्वीकार्य माना गया।

1986 पुण में जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नेहा जोशी का जन्म हुआ।

1987 स्टार स्पोर्ट्स टेलीविजन के जाने माने शो प्रस्तोता और कमेंटेट सुहैल चंडोक का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ।

1988 आर्मेनिया में आए 6.9 तीव्रता वाले भूकंप से 25 हजार लोगों की मौत और लाखों बेघर, तबाह हुए।

1990 जाने माने पंजाबी गायक, संगीतज्ञ और गीतकार मिलिंद गाबा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1992 दक्षिण अफ्रीकी धरती पर पहली बार वनडे मैच खेला गया।

1995 भारत ने संचार उपग्रह इनसेट-2सी का प्रक्षेपण किया। 1995 में इसी दिन अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष अनुसन्धान संस्था नासा का अंतरिक्ष यान गैलीलियो बृहस्पति पहुँच गया।

1988 अर्मेनिया में आये 6.9 तीव्रता वाले भूकंप से 25 हजार लोगों की मौत, लाखों बेघर।

2001 तालिबान ने कई दिनों तक चली लड़ाई के बाद अफगानिस्तान के कांधार पर कब्जा छोड़ा। 2001 में इसी दिन रानिल विक्रमसिंघे श्रीलंका के नये प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त हुए।

2002 तुर्की की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड युवती Azra Akın मिस वर्ल्ड बनीं। अब वे टर्किश डच फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, नर्तकी और सौंदर्य विशेषज्ञ हैं।

2003 भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता रमन सिंह छत्तीसगढ़ के मुख्यमंत्री पद पर आसीन। इसी दिन 2003 में भारत के पाँचवे राष्ट्रपति फखरुद्दीन अली अहमद की पत्नी बेगम आबिदा अहमद का निधन हुआ।

2004 अफगान नेता हामिद करजई ने अफगानिस्तान के पहले निर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ग्रहण की।

2005 विख्यात नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता हेरोल्ड पिंटर ने ब्रिटेन और अमेरिका पर इराक में राजकीय आतंकवादी गतिविधियां चलाने, विध्वंश करने, हत्याएं करने का आरोप हुए जॉर्ज डब्ल्यू बुश और टोनी ब्लेयर के खिलाफ मुकदमा दायर किया।

2007 यूरोप की कोलम्बर अंतरिक्ष प्रयोगशाला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन पर पहुँचाने वाली अटलांटिस की बहुप्रतीक्षित उड़ान तकनीकि कारणों से स्थगित की गई।

2008 हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री भूपेन्द्र सिंह हुड्डा ने चन्द्रमोहन को एक महिला से अवैध विवाह के विवाद के बाद मुख्यमंत्री पद से बर्खास्त किया। 2008 में इसी दिन भारतीय गोल्फर जीव मिल्खा सिंह ने जापान टूर खिताब हासिल किया।

2009 डेनमार्क की राजधानी कोपेनहेगन में जलवायु शिखर सम्मेलन शुरू।

2013 बाली, इंडोनेशिया में विश्व व्यापार संगठन की बैठक, व्यापार समझौतों को सरल बनाने के समझौते के साथ संपन्न हुई और इसमें गरीब देशों के लिए बाली पैकेज के हिस्से के रूप में अपने माल के व्यापार को सरलीकृत करने का प्रावधान किया गया।

2016 विख्यात भारतीय अभिनेता, हास्य कलाकार, राजनीतिक व्यंग्यकार, नाटककार, फिल्म निर्देशक और अधिवक्ता और राज्य सभा सदस्य रहे श्रीनिवास अय्यर अर्थात चो रामस्वामी का निधन हुआ।

2019 हिंदी के लोकप्रिय उपन्यासकार, कथाकार स्वयं प्रकाश का निधन हुआ।

1944 Geeta Iyengar, daughter of India's renowned yoga teacher BKS Iyengar, who specially educated women in yoga, was born in Pune. On this day General Radescu formed the government in Romania.

1949 India started celebrating Indian Armed Forces Flag Day.

1960 Sunil Kant Munjal, prominent Indian businessman, was born. He is one of the owners of the two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp. On this day, Gautam Thapar, head of the Avantha Group of the Thapar Group, India's famous rich, business and industrialist family, was born.

1966 The US space agency NASA launched the ATS-1 satellite. The satellite was fitted with a black and white weather camera, which took pictures of the Earth and the Moon together. This is the first picture in which the Earth and the Moon were seen together. When ATS-1 clicked this picture, it was about 35,888 km from the Earth and 4.34 lakh km from the Moon. This picture of Earth and Moon together was found on 22 December 1966. ATS-1 was decommissioned on 1 December 1978 after 12 years of service. Its communication hardware continued to function until 1985.

In 1971, President Yahya Khan announced the formation of a coalition government in Pakistan, in which Nurul Amin became the PM and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto became the Deputy Prime Minister.

1972 America launches Apollo 17 in its mission to the Moon. On December 7, 1972, the crew of NASA's last manned mission Apollo-17 took the most spectacular picture of the Earth from the spacecraft. This magnificent picture is called Blue Marble. The specialty of this picture was that it was the first time that the South Pole was also seen in any picture of the Earth. However, it looked completely surrounded by clouds. But Africa was clearly visible in it. The crew of Apollo 17, NASA's last manned mission to the Moon, consisted of Eugene Cernan, Ronald Evans, and Harrison Schmitt. This crew took the most beautiful picture of the earth named Blue Marble. NASA gave the credit of this picture to the crew of Apollo-17. This picture was taken only 5 hours 6 minutes after the launch of the Apollo-17 mission. This picture was taken with a 70mm Hasselblad camera with an 80mm lens attached. Two days before the picture was taken, a cyclone had also hit Tamil Nadu on 5th December and that too was visible in this picture.

1975 Surender Reddy, noted Telugu filmmaker, was born in Karimnagar.

1977 Deep Narayan Singh, noted Indian politician and second Chief Minister of Bihar, passed away. On this day in 1977, well-known film actor Rahul Bhat was born.

1979 Udyan Sagar, renowned Indian electronic musician Nucleya, was born in Agra.

1982 US death row convict Charles Brooks is put to death by lethal injection. Brooks was sentenced to death after being convicted of the murder of David Gregory, an auto mechanic. Woody Loudres was sentenced to death along with Brooks for the murder. Loudres's sentence was later commuted, but Charles Brooks' death sentence was upheld. It is a different matter that the weapon linked to the murder was never recovered and authorities never determined who shot Gregory. Venomous injection was considered more humane than other methods of execution, such as gas, electric shock or hanging. The reasoning behind this was that one of the drugs used in this injection causes deep unconsciousness, it does not cause pain to the dying person. Although many doctors were against the toxic injection, considering it a violation of ethics, it was still considered acceptable.

1995 India launched the communication satellite INSAT-2C. On this day in 1995, the American Space Research Organization NASA's spacecraft Galileo reached Jupiter.

1988 A 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Armenia killed 25,000 people and left millions homeless.

2001 The Taliban relinquished control of Kandahar, Afghanistan, after several days of fighting. On this day in 2001, Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

2007 The much-anticipated flight of Atlantis carrying Europe's Columber Space Laboratory to the International Space Station was postponed due to technical reasons.

2008 Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda sacked Chandramohan from the post of chief minister following a controversy over his illegal marriage with a woman. On this day in 2008, Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh won the Japan Tour title.
