1640 स्पेन का 60 वर्षों तक गुलाम रहने के बाद पुर्तगाल को स्पेन से स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1699 दसवें मुगल बादशाह रफीउद्दाराजात का जन्म हुआ।

1742 रूस की साम्राज्ञी एलिसाबेथ ने रूस से सभी यहूदियों को निकाल बाहर करने के आदेश अपने अधिकारियों को दिए।

1750 अमेरिका के मैरीलैंड में व्यावसायिक कार्यों के प्रशिक्षण विषयक पाठ्यक्रम वाला अमेरिका का पहला स्कूल खोला गया।

1761 मोम के पुतलों के संग्रहालय बनाने वाली मैडम तुसाद का जन्म हुआ। मैडम तुसाद संग्रहालय लन्दन में स्थापित मोम की मूर्तियों का संग्रहालय हैं। इसकी अन्य साखाएँ विश्व के प्रमुख शहरों भी हैं। इसकी स्थापना 1835 में मोम शिल्पकार मेरी तुसाद ने की थी। संग्रहालय में सेलेब्रेटीज की मोम की मूर्तियां रखी जाती हैं। भारत से अमिताभ बच्चन सहित अनेक लोगों की मूर्तियां हैं।

1822 पेड्रो प्रथम ब्राजील के पहले सम्राट बने।

1825 रूस के निकोलस प्रथम ने अपने बड़े भाई अलेक्जेंडर प्रथम का स्थान लिया। रूस के राजा को जार कहा जाता था।

1874 आइसलैंड के लिए डेनमार्क द्वारा एक संविधान और सीमित गृह नियम बनाये गए।

1878 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति कार्यालय व्हाइट हाउस में पहला टेलीफोन स्थापित किया गया। भारत में इसी दिन 1878 में विख्यात अंग्रेज विचारक, लेखक, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता जॉर्ज सिडनी अरुंडेल का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने भारत की बेहतरी के लिए कई काम किये।

1885 गांधीवादी स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, शिक्षाविद, पत्रकार और लेखक काका कालेलकर का जन्म हुआ।

1886 प्रसिद्ध क्रान्तिकारी, पत्रकार और समाज सुधारक राजा महेन्द्र प्रताप का जन्म हाथरस में हुआ।

1894 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी औरराजनीतिज्ञ भीम सेन सच्चर का जन्म हुआ।

1903 क्रान्तिकारी अनंता सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1913 हेनरी फोर्ड की कार निर्माता कंपनी फोर्ड मोटर ने बड़े पैमाने पर उत्पादन के लिए पहली बार मूविंग असेंबली लाइन तकनीक शुरु की।

1931 विख्यात भारतीय चिकित्सक गुरुकुमार बालचंद्र पारुलकर का जन्म हुआ।

1933 कलकत्ता से ढाका तक विमान सेवा की शुरूआत हुई। तब ढाका बंगाल का हिस्सा था। अब बांग्लादेश की राजधानी है।

1939 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रसिद्ध राजनेता हेमानन्द बिश्वाल का जन्म हुआ।

1942 भाजपा नेता और मिजोरम के राज्यपाल हुए जगदीश मुखी का जन्म हुआ।

1952 मेक्सिको के राष्ट्रपति के रूप में एडॉल्फो रूइज कॉरटिन ने पदभार संभाला।

1954 प्रख्यात सामाजिक, मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता, नर्मदा बचाओ आंदोलन की नेता मानवाधिकारवादी, महिलाओं, दलितों, अल्पसंख्यकों और अन्याय तथा भेदभाव के शिकार अन्य लोगों के अधिकारों के लिए अथक संघर्ष करने वाली विश्व प्रसिद्ध महिला मेधा पाटकर का बंबई में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1954 में प्रसिद्ध फिल्म चरित्र अभिनेता राकेश बेदी का जन्म हुआ।

1955 अमरीकी राज्य अलबामा में एक काली महिला को इसलिए गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया कि उन्होंने बस में अपनी सीट एक गोरे आदमी के लिए खाली करने से इनकार कर दिया था। बस में सीट खाली न होने पर गोरों के लिए काले लोगों को सीट खाली करनी पड़ती थी। इसी दिन 1955 में जाने-माने भारतीय गायक उदित नारायण का जन्म हुआ।

1958 अमेरिका के शिकागो में लेडी ऑफ एंजल्स स्कूल स्कूल में आग लगने से 90 बच्चों की मौत हुई।

1959 अंटार्कटिका के शांतिपूर्ण वैज्ञानिक इस्तेमाल के लिए 12 राष्ट्रों ने संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किये। 1959 में इसी दिन बाहरी अंतरिक्ष से पृथ्वी का पहला रंगीन फोटो लिया गया। इसी दिन आइपीएल के चेन्नई सुपरकिंग से संबद्ध प्रसिद्ध ड्रम वादक और तमाम वाद्य यंत्र बजाने वाले प्रसिद्ध संगीतज्ञ शिवमणि का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ।

1963 नागालैंड भारत का 16वां राज्य बना।

1965 बीएसएफ के नाम से सुपरिचित बॉर्डर सिक्योरिटी फोर्स यानी सीमा सुरक्षा बल की स्थापना हुई।

1971 लुधियाना, पंजाब के प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेता और विधायक विजय इंदर सिंगला का जन्म हुआ।

1972 जानी-मानी फैशन डिजाइनर साइना एनसी यानी साइना नैना चुडासमा का जन्म हुआ।

1973 विख्यात भारतीय स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एवं राजनेता सुचेता कृपलानी का निधन हुआ। इजराइल के संस्थापक और पहले प्रधानमंत्री डेविड बेन गुरियन की 87 साल की उम्र में मौत हो गई थी।

1974 वर्जीनिया के अपरविले में बोइंग 727 विमान दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने से 92 की मौत हुई।

1976 अंगोला संयुक्त राष्ट्र का सदस्य बना। 1976 में इसी दिन बांग्लादेश में जनरल जियाउर रहमान ने खुद को राष्ट्रपति घोषित किया।

1977 सर्वप्रथम बच्चों के लिए केबल चैनल द पिनविइल नेटवर्क जो बाद में निकेलोडियन कहलाया शुरू किया गया। यह अमेरिका के ओहियो राज्य के कोलंबस में शुरु विवियन हाॅर्नर ने।

1980 जाने-माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर मोहम्मद कैफ का जन्म हुआ। 1980 में इसी दिन भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ के. हनुमंथैय्या का देहांत हुआ।

1985 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड प्रसिद्ध भारतीय गायिका, प्रथम अमेरिकी प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार विजेता, भारतीय भाषाओं के साथ तमाम अन्य देशों की भाषाओं में गाने वाली तन्वी शाह का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ। इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, लेखक और गाँधीवादी चिंतक दादा धर्माधिकारी का निधन हुआ।

1987 अफगानिस्तान के नये संविधान के अंतर्गत डा. नजीबुल्लाह राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित।

1988 पाकिस्तान में आपातकाल हुआ और राष्ट्रपति गुलाम इशहाक खान ने बेनजीर भुट्टो को प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त किया। 1988 में इसी दिन बांग्लादेश में आये चक्रवात से 596 लोगों की मौत हुई, पांच लाख लोग बेघर हुए।

1988 एड्स रोग के बारे जागरूकता फैलाने के उद्देश्य से प्रति वर्ष 1 दिसंबर को विश्व एड्स दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। एक्वॉयर्ड इम्यूनोडिफिशिएंसी सिंड्रोम एक जानलेवा बीमारी है जो एचआईवी से होती है। एचआईवी वायरस इंसान के इम्यून सिस्टम पर हमला करता है और अन्य रोगों के खिलाफ इसकी प्रतिरोधक क्षमता को कम करता है। विश्व एड्स दिवस पर सरकारें, स्वास्थ्य अधिकारी, गैर-सरकारी संगठन और दुनिया भर के कई लोग एड्स की रोकथाम, नियंत्रण और इससे जुड़ी जानकारी का प्रसार करते हैं। 2017 तक एड्स की वजह से दुनिया भर में करीब 2.8 करोड़ से 4.15 करोड़ लोगों की मौत का अनुमान है। एक अनुमान के मुताबिक अभी भी करीब 3.60 करोड़ लोग एचआईवी संक्रमित हैं।

1990 प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू की बहन तथा प्रमुख महिला स्वतंत्रता सेनानी विजयलक्ष्मी पण्डित का निधन हुआ।

1991 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार लियोन जेम्स का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ।

1992 प्रथम भारतीय युद्धक विमान महिला पायलट भावना कंठ का जन्म बरौनी, दरभंगा में हुआ। इसी दिन दक्षिण कोरिया एवं दक्षिण अफ्रीका में राजनयिक संबंध स्थापित।

1997 रूस से अलग हो चुके चेचेन्या को विदेशी नागरिकों के लिए निषिद्ध क्षेत्र घोषित किया गया।

1998 जानी मानी फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन बाल कलाकार तथा माॅडल इशिता पांचाल का जन्म हुआ।

2000 संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने तालिबान पर शस्त्र प्रतिबंध का समर्थन किया। इसी दिन 2000 में विसिट फॉक्स मैक्सिको के नये राष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हुए।

2001 अफगानिस्तान कंधार एयर पोर्ट पर तालिबान विरोधी कबालियों का कब्जा।

2002 ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने इंग्लैंड से लगातार आठवीं बार एशेज टेस्ट शृंखला जीती। 2002 में इसी दिन 91वें डेविस कप में रूस ने पेरिस में फ्रांस को 3-2 से हराया।

2006 नेपाल ने नये राष्ट्रगान स्वीकृत किया। पुराने गान की तरह इसमें राजा की अभ्र्यथना और राजा का उल्लेख तक नहीं था।

2007 चीन के सान्या में आयोजित मिस वर्ल्ड प्रतियोगिता में चीन की झांग जीलिन को मिस वर्ल्ड का ताज पहनाया गया।

2008 भारत के विख्यात बिलियडर्स खिलाड़ी पंकज आडवाणी ने 75वीं राष्ट्रीय बिलियडर्स एवं स्नूकर प्रतियोगिता जीती और इसी दिन बिहार विधान सभा के पूर्व अध्यक्ष शिवचन्द्र झा का देहावसान हुआ।

2013 क्रोएशिया के 65 प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने समलैंगिक विवाह के खिलाफ मतदान किया।

2015 अमेरिकी बॉस्केटबॉल खिलाड़ी जिम लोसकटऑफ का निधन हुआ।
