1926 अमेरिका के मॉन्टिसेलो, मिसौरी में रॉबर्ट अर्ल ह्यूजेस का जन्म हुआ जो दुनिया में अपने जीवनकाल में बिना किसी सहायता के चलने में सक्षम सबसे भारी इंसान थे। रॉबर्ट अर्ल ह्यूजेस का वजन 486 किलोग्राम था। जन्म के समय 5.1 किलोग्राम था और औसत आकार का बच्चा बताया गया। वह अपने डील-डौल और वजन के कारण लोगों के मनोरंजन का विषय बन गये। ह्यूजेस ने खुद के प्रदर्शन को ही अपनी आमदनी का जरिया बनाया और अपनी तस्वीरें बेचकर कुछ आय अर्जित की। अपने वयस्क जीवन के दौरान ह्यूजेस ने अमेरिका भर में कार्निवल और मेलों में अतिथि भूमिका निभाई, रोड शो में प्रतिभाग किया।

1928 चीन के राष्ट्रपति हांग जोलिन की एक जापानी एजेंट ने हत्या कर दी।

1929 जॉर्ज ईस्टमेन ने पहली रंगीन फिल्म का नमूना प्रस्तुत किया।

1931 हिंदी फिल्मों की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री बीना राय का जन्म लाहौर, पाकिस्तान में हुआ।

1936 नूतन के नाम से हिंदी सिने की बहुत लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री नूतन समर्थ बहल का जन्म बंबई में हुआ। उन्हें बंदिनी, सुजाता, अनाड़ी सहित अनेक फिल्मों में और दूरदर्शन धारावाहिक मुजरिम हाजिर में उनके सदाबहार बहुआयामी अभिनय के लिए जाना जाता है।

1937 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय उद्योगपति और चेन्नई स्थित वित्तीय सेवा समूह श्रीराम ग्रुप के संस्थापक राममूर्ति त्यागराजन का जन्म हुआ।

1959 रिलायंस समूह के अध्यक्ष और प्रसिद्ध व्यवसायी अनिल अंबानी का जन्म हुआ। अनिल दीवालिया हो गये। भारत की बैंकों का हजारों करोड़ सहित अनेक विदेशी बैंकों का भी इन्होंने हजारों करोड़ रुपया मार लिया। इसके बावजूद प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने फ्रांस की कंपनी दशा एवियेशन रफाल फाइटर विमान खरीद सौदे में करीब 30 हजार करोड़ अंबानी की कंपनी को दे दिए।

1958 तीन सदस्यीय पर्वतारोही दल ने गढ़वाल पर्वत श्रृंखला में स्थित 7011 मीटर ऊंचे त्रिशूल पर्वत शिखर को फतह किया।

1959 सी राजगोपालाचारी ने स्वतंत्र पार्टी बनाने की घोषणा की।

1964 मालदीव ने संविधान का निर्माण किया।

1970 ब्रिटेन से अलग होकर टोंगा एक स्वतंत्र देश बना।

1975 विश्व विख्यात अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, फिल्म निर्मात्री और मानवतावादी एंजेलिना जोली का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका में कैलिफोर्निया के गवर्नर जेरी ब्राउन ने कैलिफोर्निया एग्रीकल्चरल लेबर सेलेक्शन एक्ट पर हस्ताक्षर किए, जिसमें कृषि श्रमिकों के अधिकारों की व्यवस्था थी।

1983 संयुक्त राष्ट्र की पहल पर 4 जून को बाल यातना एवं अवैध तस्करी के विरुद्ध अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिवस मनाया गया। 19 अगस्त, 1982 को, फिलिस्तीन के आग्रह पर आपातकालीन सत्र के दौरान, संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने इजरायल की हिंसा से प्रभावित हुए निर्दोष फिलिस्तीनी और लेबनान के पीड़ितों बच्चों की याद में हर साल 4 जून को इंटरनेशनल डे ऑफ इनोसेंट चिल्ड्रेन विक्टिम्स ऑफ अग्रेशन मनाने का फैसला किया। दुनिया भर में शारीरिक, मानसिक और भावनात्मक शोषण के शिकार बच्चों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए आक्रामकता के शिकार मासूम बच्चों के इस अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस पर सरकारें, स्वयंसेवी संगठन, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता बच्चों के कल्याण के बारे में विविध विषयक आयोजन करते हैं। 

1984 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री प्रियामणी यानी प्रिया वासुदेव मणी का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1989 चीन की राजधानी बीजिंग में चीन की सेना ने राजनीतिक और आर्थिक सुधारों की मांग करते हुए शांतिपूर्वक प्रदर्शन कर रहे निहत्थे नागरिकों पर बंदूकों और टैंकों से गोलाबारी की जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में लोग मारे गए। इसे इतिहास में थ्येनआनमन स्क्वायर नरसंहार के रूप में जाना जाता है। 1989 में इसी दिन ईरान के सर्वोच्च नेता अयातुल्ला रूहुल्लाह खुमैनी के निधन के बाद उनके बेटे अली खामेनेई को ईरान का सर्वोच्च नेता घोषित किया गया। खामेनेई अभी भी अपने पद पर हैं।

1991 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के बाद पहली गैर साम्यवादी सरकार यूरोपीय देश अल्बानिया में बनी।

1999 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय अमेरिकी अर्थशास्त्री, गणितज्ञ और शिक्षक जी एस. मडाला का निधन हुआ।

2001 नेपाल में ज्ञानेंद्र वीर बिक्रम शाह ने अपने भाई और बेटे की मौत के बाद सत्ता संभाली।

2003 डोमीनिक गणराज्य की 18 वर्षीय सुन्दरी एमीलिया वेगा मिस यूनीवर्स बनीं।

2005 भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी ने कराची में मोहम्मद जिन्ना को धर्मनिरपेक्ष व्यक्ति बताया।

2007 चीन के उपप्रधानमंत्री हांग चू का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन ब्राजील के राष्ट्रपति लुइस इनासियो लुला डि सिल्वा को वर्ष 2006 का जवाहरलाल नेहरू पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

2008 हरियाणा सरकार ने पारिवारिक पेंशन का लाभ 25 वर्ष से कम उम्र की लड़कियों को भी देने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन न्यूयार्क की सीनेटर हिलैरी क्लिंटन को पछाड़ते हुए बराक ओबामा ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी की उम्मीदवारी हासिल की।

2009 पंजाब के बालान गांव जिला जालंधर स्थित धार्मिक सामाजिक संगठन डेरा सच खंड के प्रमुख संत रामानंद दास के अंतिम संस्कार में दो लाख लोग शामिल हुए। इसकी स्थापना गुरु रविदास के भक्तों द्वारा की गई थी। रामानंद दास डेरा सच खंड के नेता और गुरु रविदास के अनुयायी थे। उनका नाम अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर तब आया जब 57 साल की उम्र में 24 मई 2009 को ऑस्ट्रिया में गुरु रविदास मंदिर पर सिख कट्टरपंथियों द्वारा किए गए हमले में उनकी मौत हो गई।

2010 अमेरिकी सैन्य ठिकाने के मुद्दे पर उठे विवाद के कारण जापान के प्रधानमंत्री युकियो हातोयामा ने इस्तीफा दिया और फिर उप-प्रधानमंत्री और वित्त मंत्रि, डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी के सह-संस्थापक 63 वर्षीय नाओतो कान नए प्रधानमंत्री बने। इसी दिन अफगानिस्तान में तीन दिवसीय सम्मेलन के पश्चात लोया जिरगा ने राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई के तालिबान से शांति समझौते के प्रयासों का समर्थन करते हुए समर्पण करने वाले तालिबानियों को आम माफी और रोजगार देने के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दी। इसी दिन दिल्ली राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों के लिए कुल जारी किए जाने वाले 17 लाख टिकटों की ऑन लाइन बिक्री शुरू हो गई। उद्घाटन समारोह देखने के लिए कम से कम एक हजार रुपए और शाही अंदाज से देखने वाले को 50 हजार रुपए प्रति टिकट और विभिन्न खेल स्पर्धाओं का साधारण टिकट कम से कम 50 रुपए और अधिकतम एक हजार रुपए का रखा गया।

2011 ली ना फ्रेंच ओपन टेनिस प्रतियोगिता के महिला एकल वर्ग में विजेता बनने वाली पहली चीनी खिलाड़ी बनी। इसी दिन अल कायदा का वरिष्ठ कमांडर इलियास कश्मीरी वजीरिस्तान (पाकिस्तान) के कबाइली इलाके में अमेरिकी ड्रोन हमले में मारा गया। 2011 में 4 जून को मध्य इराक की एक मस्जिद और एक अस्पताल में बमों से किए गए हमले में 24 लोगों की मौत हो गई। अमेरिका की प्रमुख सर्वेक्षण एजेंसी गैलप ने अपने ताजा सर्वेक्षण में कहा कि भारतीय लोग आर्थिक वृद्धि पर पर्यावरण रक्षा को मामूली रूप से प्राथमिकता देते हैं। अर्थशास्त्र में नोबेल पुरस्कार जीतने वाले भारतीय अर्थशास्त्री डॉ. अमर्त्य सेन ने पश्चिमी देशों को भारत और चीन से सीख लेने की सलाह दी है। डॉक्टर सेन का कहना है कि पश्चिमी देशों को नए विचारों की जरूरत है।

2012 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेटर सचिन तेंदुलकर ने संसद के उच्च सदन राज्यसभा के मनोनीत सदस्य के रूप में शपथ ली।

2015 घाना में एक पेट्रोल पंप पर लगी आग में 200 से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई।

2016 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल सुलभा देशपांडे का निधन हुआ।

2017 माराकेश, मोरक्को में जुआन गोयटिसोलो गे का निधन हुआ जो प्रसिद्ध स्पेनिश कवि, निबंधकार और उपन्यासकार थे। वे 1997 से 2017 में अपनी मृत्यु तक माराकेश में रहे। उन्हें 21वीं सदी की शुरुआत में स्पेन का सबसे महान जीवित लेखक माना जाता था, जबकि 1950 के दशक से जुआन गोयटिसोलो गे विदेश में रह रहे थे। 24 नवंबर 2014 को उन्हें स्पेनिश भाषी दुनिया के सबसे प्रतिष्ठित साहित्यिक पुरस्कार, सर्वेंट्स पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

2018 मॉरीशस के विख्यात हिंदी साहित्यकार अभिमन्यु अनत का निधन हुआ।

2020 विख्यात फिल्म निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक बासु चटर्जी का निधन हुआ।

1917 The first Pulitzer Prizes, named after the famous American journalist and publisher Joseph Pulitzer, were awarded. Laura E. Richards, Maud H. Elliot and Florence Hall were awarded for biography writing, Jules Jusserand received the first Pulitzer for his writing With Americans of Past and Present Days History and Herbert B. Swope received the first Pulitzer for his reporting journalism for the New York World. The Pulitzer Prizes have the same respect and significance for journalism as the Nobel Prizes.

1926 Robert Earl Hughes was born in Monticello, Missouri, USA, who was the heaviest person in the world who was able to walk without any help during his lifetime. Robert Earl Hughes weighed 486 kg. He weighed 5.1 kg at birth and was described as an average-sized baby. He became a subject of amusement for people because of his build and weight. Hughes made his own performances his source of income and earned some income by selling his photographs. 2009 Two lakh people attended the funeral of Sant Ramanand Das, the head of the religious social organization Dera Sach Khand located in Balan village, District Jalandhar, Punjab. It was founded by the devotees of Guru Ravidas. Ramanand Das was the leader of Dera Sach Khand and a follower of Guru Ravidas. His name came to international attention when he died at the age of 57 on 24 May 2009 in an attack by Sikh fundamentalists on Guru Ravidas temple in Austria.
