585 ईसा पूर्व 9 अप्रैल को काशीहारा, नारा में जापानी सम्राट जिम्मु का निधन हुआ। निहोन शोकी और कोजिकी के अनुसार जिम्मु जापान के प्रसिद्ध प्रथम सम्राट थे। जापानी पौराणिक कथाओं में वह सूर्य देवी अमेतरासु के वंशज थे, तूफान देवता सुसानू के वंशज थे। उन्होंने सेटो अंतर्देशीय सागर के पास ह्योगा से एक सैन्य अभियान शुरू किया, यमातो पर कब्जा कर लिया और इसे अपनी शक्ति के केंद्र के रूप में स्थापित किया। आधुनिक जापान में, सम्राट जिम्मू के महान राज्यारोहण को 11 फरवरी को राष्ट्रीय स्थापना दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। दस्तावेजी सबूत इसके नहीं है कि जिम्मू अस्तित्व में थे। यद्यपि इसकी अधिक संभावना है कि कोफुन काल के दौरान मियाजाकी प्रांत के आसपास एक शक्तिशाली राजवंश था।

193 रोमन सैनिक, राजनीतिज्ञ सेप्टिमियस सेवेरस को इलीरिकम में सेना सम्राट घोषित किया। रोमन प्रांत इलीरिकम में वर्तमान के अल्बानिया, कोसोवो, मोंटेनेग्रो, सर्बिया, बोस्निया और हर्जेगोविना, क्रोएशिया और स्लोवेनिया के इलाके आते थे। लूसियस सेप्टिमियस सेवेरस का जन्म अफ्रीका के रोमन प्रांत लेप्टिस मैग्ना (वर्तमान अल-खुम्स, लीबिया) में हुआ था। युवावस्था में वह मार्कस ऑरेलियस और कोमोडस के शासनकाल  पारंपरिक रूप से सत्ता का उत्तराधिकारी था। 193 में सम्राट पर्टिनैक्स की मृत्यु के बाद सत्ता पर कब्जा करने के लिए सेवेरस अंतिम दावेदार था।

475 बीजान्टिन सम्राट बेसिलिस्कस ने मोनोफिसाइट ईसाई स्थिति का समर्थन करते हुए अपने साम्राज्य के बिशपों को एक परिपत्र पत्र (एंकीक्लिकॉन) जारी किया।

537 रोम की घेराबंदी में बीजान्टिन जनरल बेलिसेरियस ने 1,600 घुड़सवार, हुननिक या स्लाव मूल के विशेषज्ञ तीरंदाजों के साथ गॉथिक शिविरों के खिलाफ छापेमारी शुरू की जिससे विटिजेस को पराजय मिली।

1096 बगदाद, अब्बासिद खलीफा में अबू अब्दुल्ला मुहम्मद इब्न अहमद अल-मुस्तजिर का जन्म हुआ। यह 1136 से 1160 तक बगदाद में अब्बासिद खलीफा यानी शासक हुए, उन्हें अल-मुक्ताफी ली-अम्र अल्लाह के नाम से जाना जाता है।

1241 लिग्निट्ज की लड़ाई में मंगोल सेना ने पोलिश और जर्मन सेनाओं को पराजित किया।

1288 वियतनाम पर मंगोल आक्रमण में वर्तमान उत्तरी वियतनाम में बाख डांग की लड़ाई में युआन सेना को ट्रॅन सेना ने पराजित किया।

1388 संख्या में कम होने के बावजूद ओल्ड स्विस कॉन्फेडेरसी की सेना ने नेफेल्स की लड़ाई में ऑस्ट्रिया के आर्चडुची पर विजय प्राप्त की।

1454 लोदी की संधि पर हस्ताक्षर हुए जिससे उत्तरी इतालवी शहर-राज्यों के बीच लगभग 50 वर्षों के लिए शक्ति संतुलन स्थापित हुआ।

1609 अस्सी वर्ष से चले आ रहे युद्ध को समाप्त करने के लिए स्पेन और डच गणराज्य ने बारह साल के संघर्ष विराम की शुरुआत के लिए एंटवर्प की संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1609 स्पेन के सम्राट फिलिप तृतीय ने मोरिस्को के निष्कासन का आदेश जारी किया। 9 अप्रैल, 1609 के मोरिस्कोस के निष्कासन (स्पेनिश एक्सपल्सियोन डी लॉस मोरिस्कोस) आदेश राजा फिलिप तृतीय ने व्यवस्था दी कि मोरिस्कोस यानी मुस्लिम आबादी ईसाई धर्म अपनाए या देश छोड़ दे। उस वक्त स्पेन अमेरिका में युद्ध लड़ रहा था, उन्हें ओटोमन्स द्वारा स्पेन पर हमला करने और मोरिस्को विद्रोह खतरा था। स्पेन में इस्लाम को पहले ही गैरकानूनी घोषित कर दिया गया था। सरकार की आंतरिक समस्या चलते ऐसा आदेश दिया गया। फिर भी 1609 से 1614 के बीच सफलता के विभिन्न स्तरों के साथ स्पेन के विभिन्न राज्यों को प्रभावित करने वाले कई फरमानों के माध्यम से मोरिस्को को व्यवस्थित रूप से निष्कासित कर दिया। 1492 और 1610 के बीच लगभग 30 लाख मुसलमानों ने स्पेन छोड़ दिया या उनका जबरन निष्कासन कर दिया गया।

1667 फ्रांस की राजधानी पेरिस में पहली पब्लिक आर्ट प्रदर्शनी लगाई गई।

1756 बंगाल के नवाब अली वर्दी खान का 80 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हुआ।

1838 लंदन में नेशनल आर्ट गैलरी खोली गई।

1883 प्रसिद्ध अफगान शासक और सैन्य अधिकारी मोहम्मद नादिर शाह का जन्म देहरादून, उत्तराखंड में हुआ।

1893 हिंदी के प्रमुख साहित्यकार, खोजी, अनुवादक और समाजवादी विचारक राहुल सांकृत्यायन का जन्म पंदहा, रानी की सराय, आजमगढ़ में हुआ। राहुल को महापंडित कहा गया। वे प्रतिष्ठित बहुभाषाविद थे और बीसवीं सदी के पूर्वार्ध में उन्होंने यात्रा वृतांत यात्रा, साहित्य तथा विश्व-दर्शन के क्षेत्र में अतुलनीय योगदान किए। उन्होंने समाजवाद, कम्युनिज्म का समर्थन किया।

1906 विख्यात, बेहतरीन पाकिस्तानी उर्दू एवं पंजाबी शायर मुनीर अहमद नियाजी का जन्म होशियारपुर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1919 भारतीय लेखक और पत्रकार अवधानम सीता रमन का जन्म हुआ।

1920 प्रसिद्ध जेसुइट इसाई मिशनरी विसेंट फेरर मोनचो का जन्म बार्सिलोना में हुआ। विसेंट ने दक्षिण भारत में मिशन के तहत गरीबों के जीवन को बेहतर बनाने हेतु अथक परिश्रम किया। विसेंट फेरर फाउंडेशन आंध्र प्रदेश में अनेक मानवीय परियोजनाएं चला रहा है, इससे करीब 2.5 मिलियन से अधिक गरीब लोगों को सहायता मिल रही है।

1929 हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत’ की विद्वान् और सुप्रसिद्ध सरोद वादिका शरन रानी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इनका अपने जन्म दिन की पूर्व संध्या पर 8 अप्रैल 2008 को निधन हो गया।

1933 दक्षिण भारतीय, कन्नड़ सिनेमा की प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री प्रतिमा देवी का जन्म हुआ।

1945 अमेरिका में यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स एटोमिक एनर्जी कमीशन की स्थापना की गई।

1948 जया भादुड़ी का मध्य प्रदेश के जबलपुर में जन्म हुआ। प्रसिद्ध फिल्म अभिनेता अमिताभ बच्चन की पत्नी बनने पर यह जया बच्चन हो गईं। इन्होंने गुड्डी, कोरा कागज, जंजीर, अभिमान, चुपके-चुपके, मिली और शोले जैसी तमाम फिल्मों में अभिनय किया और फिलहाल राज्य सभा की सदस्य हैं।

1951 जाने माने अमेरिकी, भारतीय एथलीट एवं एथलेटिक्स कोच अल्बर्ट एन्सोन डोरेंस चतुर्थ का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1953 अमेरिका की बहुराष्ट्रीय मनोरंजन कंपनी वार्नर ब्रदर्स ने हाउस ऑफ वैक्स शीर्षक से पहली 3 डी फिल्म प्रदर्शित की।

1954 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय राजनीतिज्ञ और अर्थशास्त्री तथा मनमोहन सिंह सरकार में मंत्री रहे जयराम रमेश का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं निर्मात्री अनीता कंवल का जन्म लखनऊ में हुआ।

1955 अमेरिका ने नेवादा में परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1957 मिस्र की स्वेज नहर की सफाई पूरी होने के बाद जहाजों का आवागमन चालू हुआ।

1959 प्रोजेक्ट मर्करी में अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के पहले सात अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों के चयन की घोषणा की, जिन्हें समाचार माध्यमों ने मर्करी सेवन नाम दिया।

1960 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के प्रधानमंत्री और रंगभेद के सूत्रधार डॉ. हेंड्रिक वेरवोर्ड जोहान्सबर्ग में एक श्वेत किसान डेविड प्रैट द्वारा हत्या के प्रयास में बाल-बाल बचे।

1963 ब्रिटिश राजनेता और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री सर विंस्टन चर्चिल को संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की मानद नागरिकता प्रदान की गई।

1964 उत्तराखंड के भाजपा नेता, पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री तथा वर्तमान में पौड़ी गढ़वाल से लोकसभा सदस्य तीरथ सिंह रावत का जन्म हुआ।

1965 भारत और पाकिस्तान की सेना के बीच गुजरात के कच्छ क्षेत्र में लड़ाई छिड़ी। गुजरात के कच्छ में पाकिस्तानी सेना ने हमला बोल दिया था। पाकिस्तान ने इसे ऑपरेशन ‘डेजर्ट हॉक’ नाम दिया था। करीब 5 महीने चले इस युद्ध में भारत का पलड़ा भारी रहा। इस युद्ध का अंत संयुक्त राष्ट्र की ओर से युद्ध विराम की घोषणा के बाद 23 सितंबर 1965 को हुआ। जनवरी 1966 को हुए ताशकंद समझौते के बाद दोनों देशों ने एक-दूसरे से जीते हुए इलाके वापस लौटा दिए।

1972 सोवियत संघ और इराक ने मैत्री संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1979 महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री, वर्तमान उप मुख्यमंत्री भाजपा नेता देवेंद्र फड़नवीस की पत्नी, बैंक में अपने पद के दुरुपयोग करने में ंबदनाम, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री, गायिका, भाजपा नेत्री, एक्सिस बैंक की पूर्व उपाध्यक्ष अमृता फड़नवीस का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ।

1980 जाने माने कन्नड़ और हिंदी लेखक चक्रवर्ती सुलीबेले का जन्म कर्नाटक के होन्नावर में हुआ। 1980 में इसी दिन इराक में सद्दाम हुसैन शासन ने दार्शनिक मुहम्मद बाकिर अल-सद्र और उनकी बहन बिंत अल-हुदा को तीन दिन यातनाएं देने के बाद मार डाला।

1981 अमेरिकी नौसेना की परमाणु पनडुब्बी यूएसएस जॉर्ज वॉशिंगटन गलती से एक जापानी मालवाहक जहाज निशो मारू से टकरा गई, जिससे वह डूब गया और दो जापानी नाविकों की मौत हो गई।

1984 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय तमिल एवं मलयालम फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल लक्ष्मी प्रिया चंद्रमौली का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ। इसी दिन कानूनविद और राजनीतिज्ञ भाऊराव देवाजी खोब्रागडे का निधन हुआ। वे भारतीय भारतीय रिपब्लिकन पार्टी के राजनीतिज्ञ थे। वे महाराष्ट्र से 3 बार राज्य सभा के सदस्य रहे।

1986 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेत्री शीना शाहाबादी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1988 चर्चित अभिनेत्री स्वरा भास्कर का दिल्ली में जन्म हुआ। स्वरा तनु वेड्स मनु, रांझणा और वीरे दी वेडिंग जैसी तमाम फिल्मों में काम किया और समाजवादी, वामपंथी, मानवाधिकारवादी हैं। इसी दिन जनता दल के अध्यक्ष, पूर्व समाजवादी नेता, बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री और केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री रहे लालू प्रसाद यादव के बेटे, बिहार के उप मुख्यमंत्री रहे तेज प्रताप यादव का जन्म गोपालगंज बिहार में हुआ। इसी दिन 1988 में अमेरिका ने पनामा पर आर्थिक प्रतिबंध लगाये। इसी दिन ली पेंग 1988 में चीन के प्रधानमंत्री बने।

1989 एशिया की पहली सम्पूर्ण भूमिगत संजय जलविद्युत परियोजना शुरू हुई। 1989 में इसी दिन जॉर्जियाई स्वतंत्रता की बहाली की मांग को लेकर त्बिलिसी में आयोजित सोवियत विरोधी शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन और भूख हड़ताल को सोवियत सेना ने बल प्रयोग कर तितर-बितर कर दिया, जिसमें 20 लोग मारे गये और सैकड़ों घायल हुए।

1990 सुपरिचित भारतीय क्रिकेटर प्रियांक किरीटभाई पांचाल का जन्म अहमदाबाद में हुआ। प्रियांक दाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज और दाएं हाथ के मध्यम गति के गेंदबाज हैं।

1998 सऊदी अरब में मीना के पास भगदड़ में 150 से अधिक यात्रियों की मृत्यु हुई।

1999 नाइजर के राष्ट्रपति इब्राहिम बारे मैनसारा की हत्या कर दी गई।

2000 जाने माने ट्रॉट्स्कीवादी सोवियत, रूसी राजनीज्ञि और सोशलिस्ट वर्कर्स पार्टी के संस्थापक टोनी क्लिफ का निधन हुआ।

2001 अमेरिकी एयरलाइंस ने ट्रांस वर्ल्ड एयरलाइंस का अधिग्रहण किया। इससे अमेरिकी एयरलाइंस दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी एयरलाइन बन गई।

2002 बहरीन में निगम चुनाव में महिलाओं को भी भाग लेने का अधिकार मिला।

2003 इराक की राजधानी बगदाद के फिरदौस चौराहे पर लगी राष्ट्रपति सद्दाम हुसैन की मूर्ति को गिरा दिया गया था। अमेरिकी सेना ने सैनिक वाहन की मदद से इस मूर्ति को गिराया। सद्दाम के तख्तापलट के बाद इराक पर अमेरिका का नियंत्रण हो गया। इसी दिन 2003 स्टीव वॉ सर्वाधिक टेस्ट (157) खेलने वाले खिलाड़ी बने।

2004 ईराक में संघर्ष तेज होने पर अमेरिकी काफिले पर हुए हमले में 9 लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन 2004 पुर्तगाल के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने भारत के आरोपों के अनुसार कई आपराधिक मामलों में वांछित माफिया सरगना अबू सलेम के भारत प्रत्यर्पण आदेश की पुनः समीक्षा करने को कहा।

2005 ब्रिटिश शाही परिवार के राजकुमार चार्ल्स ने कैमिला पार्कर बोल्स से शादी की। शादी में इस जोड़े का 20 हजार से ज्यादा लोगों ने स्वागत किया। शादी समारोह में शाही परिवार और उनके दोस्तों समेत करीब 800 लोग शामिल हुए थे। प्रिंस चार्ल्स की ये दूसरी शादी थी। इससे पहले 1981 में उन्होंने लेडी डायना से शादी की थी। डायना से उनके दो बेटे प्रिंस विलियम और प्रिंस हैरी हैं। मां महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय के निधन के बाद चार्ल्स आजकल ब्रिटेन के राजा हैं।

2006 यूरेनस ग्रह के चारों ओर शनि जैसा वलय होने की पुष्टि की। पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ ने 2007 के चुनावों के बाद भी अपने पद बने रहने की घोषणा की। इसी दिन 2008 उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने दलिया व कॉपियों समेत डेढ़ दर्जन वस्तुओं को वैट से मुक्त किया। राष्ट्रीय कृषि एवं ग्रामीण विकास बैंक (नाबार्ड) ने वर्ष 2007-08 में अपने कारोबार में पिछले वित्त वर्ष की तुलना में 21 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि की। इसी दिन नेपाल में बहुप्रतीक्षित संविधान सभा के लिए मतदान शुरू हुआ।

2007 जाने माने अमेरिकी खगोलशास्त्री और अकादमिक डोरिट हॉफलेट का निधन हुआ।

2009 हावड़ा ब्रिज, अमानुष, कटी पतंग, अमर-प्रेम और आराधना जैसी 40 से ज्यादा हिंदी और बंगाली फिल्मों के निर्देशक और निर्माता शक्ति सामंत का निधन हुआ। 2009 में इसी दिन जॉर्जिया के त्बिलिसी में 60,000 से अधिक लोगों ने मिखाइल साकाशविली की सरकार के खिलाफ विरोध प्रदर्शन किया।

2010 जम्मू-कश्मीर की विधान सभा ने अंतर जिला भर्तियों पर पाबंदी लगाए जाने सबंधी विवादित विधेयक पारित किया। इसी दिन स्वतंत्रता पूर्व जिम्बाब्वे के प्रधानमंत्री बिशप एबेल मुजोरेवा का निधन हुआ था। इसी दिन श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति महिंदा राजपक्षे के यूनाइटेड पीपुल्स फ्रीडम एलायंस ने 225 सीटों वाली संसद में 117 सीटें जीतीं।

2011 सरकार द्वारा लोकपाल कानून बनाने की मांग मान लेने के बाद अन्ना हजारे ने 95 घंटे से जारी अपना आमरण अनशन समाप्त कर दिया। इसी दिन अन्ना हजारे को भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी अभियान के लिए एक करोड़ रूपए के आईआईपीएम रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर अंतरराष्ट्रीय शांति पुरस्कार दिए जाने की घोषणा की गई।

2012 जाने माने सोवियत दार्शनिक, मनोवैज्ञानिक और लेखक बोरिस पैरीगिन का निधन हुआ।

2013 फ्रांस की संसद ने समलैंगिक विवाह संबंधी विधेयक को मंजूरी दी। 2013 सर्बियाई गांव वेलिका इवांका में एक व्यक्ति द्वारा की गई अंधाधुंध गोलीबारी में 13 लोग मारे गए और तीन अन्य घायल हो गए।

2014 पेन्सिलवेनिया के मुरिसविले में फ्रैंकलिन रीजनल हाई स्कूल में एक छात्र ने 20 लोगों को चाकू मार दिया।

2017 मिस्र के टांटा और अलेक्जेंड्रिया में कॉप्टिक चर्चों में पाम संडे चर्च में बम विस्फोट हुए। इसी दिन 2017 में न्यूजीलैंड-ऑस्ट्रेलिया के प्रसिद्ध हास्य अभिनेता, लेखक और व्यंग्यकार जॉन क्लार्क का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन 2017 में ओवरबुक की गई यूनाइटेड एक्सप्रेस फ्लाइट में अपनी सीट छोड़ने से इनकार करने पर डॉ. डेविड डाओ ड्यू अन्ह को विमानन सुरक्षा अधिकारियों ने जबरन फ्लाइट से बाहर खींच लिया, जिससे यूनाइटेड एयरलाइंस की बड़ी आलोचना हुई।

2019 कनान, कनेक्टिकट, अमेरिका में चार्ल्स लिंकन वान डोरेन (जन्म 12 फरवरी, 1926) का निधन हुआ जो चर्चित, विवादित अमेरिकी लेखक और संपादक थे। वे 1950 के दशक में एनबीसी क्विज शो ट्वेंटी-वन  शो घोटाले में शामिल थे। वह 1959 में एनसाइक्लोपीडिया ब्रिटानिका इंक. के उपाध्यक्ष बने। डोरेन ने 1982 में सेवानिवृत्त होने से पहले कई किताबें लिखीं और संपादित कीं।

2020 भारत में कोरोना वायरस से 169 लोगों की मौत, संक्रमितों की संख्या 5,865 पर पहुंची। पिछले 24 घंटे में संक्रमण के 591 मामले सामने आए और 20 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2021 बर्मी सेना और सुरक्षा बलों ने बागो नरसंहार 82 नागरिकों की हत्या की।

2023 चिकित्सकों और मरीज के बीच के संबंध बेहद तनाव एवं अविश्वास से भर गए हैं। मरीज के जो हाथ पहले डॉक्टर के प्रति दुआ में उठते थे, अब मारपीट करने के लिए उठ रहे हैं। इसमें सुधार करने की आवश्यकता है। यह बातें रविवार 9 अप्रैल को चंडीगढ़ में आईएमए कांप्लेक्स में आईएमए-एएमएस के राष्ट्रीय, उत्तर क्षेत्र सम्मेलन में शामिल डॉक्टरों ने कही। सीनियर मेडिको लीगल कंसलटेंट डॉक्टर नीरज नागपाल ने मरीज और डॉक्टर के बीच गिरते स्तर पर डॉ महेंद्र कौशल व डॉ रामेश्वर गुप्ता की मौजूदगी में व्याख्यान में उन्होंने कहा कि मरीज डॉक्टर के पास आता है तो वह बहुत ही दर्द एवं निराशाजनक स्थिति में होता है और उसकी डॉक्टर से बहुत अपेक्षाएं रहती हैं। ऐसे में आवश्यक है कि डॉक्टर स्वयं अपने व्यक्तित्व को भी देखे एवं मरीज की स्थिति और मनोविज्ञान को समझते हुए न केवल दवाई दे बल्कि उसके मन को भी स्वस्थ करते हुए उसके अंदर आशा का संचार करे। इसी दिन रविवार को पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री एवं नेता प्रतिपक्ष भूपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा ने विश्व महिला बॉक्सिंग चैंपियनशिप में स्वर्ण पदक जीतकर हिसार जिले में अपने पैतृक गांव घिराय लौटी बॉक्सर स्वीटी बूरा का सम्मान किया। हुड्डा ने कहा कि प्रदेश में कांग्रेस की सरकार बनने पर अंतर्राष्ट्रीय खेल प्रतियोगिताओं में पदक जीतकर देश का नाम रोशन करने वाले स्वीटी बूरा जैसे खिलाड़ियों को डीएसपी बनाएंगे।
