404 ईसा पूर्व 25 अप्रैल को एडमिरल लिसेंडर और स्पार्टा के राजा पोसानियास ने एथेंस की नाकाबंदी की और पेलोपोनेसियन युद्ध को एक निर्णायक सफलता तक पहुंचाया।

775 बगरेवंड की लड़ाई में अब्बासिद खलीफा के खिलाफ अर्मेनियाई विद्रोह समाप्त हुआ। दक्षिण काकेशस पर मुस्लिम नियंत्रण मजबूत हुआ और वहां इस्लामीकरण प्रारंभ किया। प्रमुख अर्मेनियाई नखरार परिवार सत्ताच्युत होकर बीजान्टिन साम्राज्य में पलायन को मजबूर होते हैं।

799 रोम के नागरिकों द्वारा दुव्र्यवहार और अपमानित, प्रताड़ित होने के बाद, पोप लियो तृतीय सुरक्षा के लिए पैडरबोर्न में राजा शारलेमेन के फ्रैंकिश दरबार में पलायन को मजबूर हुए।

1134 1094 के आसपास जाग्रेब बिशप्रिक की स्थापना से संबंधित फेलिशियन चार्टर में जाग्रेब नाम का पहली बार उल्लेख किया गया था।

1472 विख्यात इतालवी लेखक, कवि और दार्शनिक लियोन बतिस्ता अल्बर्टी का निधन हुआ।

1502 प्रसिद्ध जर्मन धर्मशास्त्री और अकादमिक जॉर्ज मेजर का जन्म हुआ।

1607 अस्सी साल के युद्ध में डच बेड़े ने जिब्राल्टर में लंगर डाले स्पेनिश बेड़े को नष्ट कर दिया।

1644 ली जिचेंग के नेतृत्व में हुए किसान विद्रोह के दौरान चोंगजेन सम्राट ने आत्महत्या कर ली तो चीन का मिंग राजवंश समाप्त हो गया।

1792 पेरिस में मृत्यु दंड की सजा पाए व्यक्ति को फांसी देने के लिए गिलोटिन मशीन के प्रथम प्रयोग को देखने के लिए भारी संख्या में लोग जुटे। इस मशीन में आदमी को लेटा कर ऊपर से एक भारी ब्लेड गिराया जाता था जिससे आदमी का सिर धड़ से अलग हो जाता था। इस अवसर पर हाईवेमैन निकोलस जे. पेलेटियर को फांसी की सजा दी गई। पेलेटियर गिलोटिन से कटने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बने।

1792 फ्रांस के प्रसिद्ध संगीतज्ञ, गायक और कवि क्लाउड जोसेफ रूज डी लिस्ले ने लामार्सिलाइस गीत की रचना की जो फ्रांस का राष्ट्रगान है।

1678 बेल्जियम के पुराने शहर वाइप्रेस पर फ्रांसीसी सेना ने 25 अप्रैल के दिन कब्जा कर लिया।

1809 ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी और पंजाब के सिख शासक रणजीत सिंह के बीच अमृतसर संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए।

1829 चार्ल्स फ्रेमेंटल स्वान नदी कॉलोनी घोषित करने से पहले आधुनिक पश्चिमी ऑस्ट्रेलिया के तट पर एचएमएस चैलेंजर (एचएमएस चैलेंजर 14 नवंबर 1826 को पोर्ट्समाउथ, इंग्लैंड में लॉन्च की गई रॉयल नेवी की 28-गन 6 रेट, विशालकाय समुद्री जहाज) में पहुंचे।

1864 अमेरिकी गृहयुद्ध के दौरान मार्क्स मिल्स में 8,000 संघीय सैनिकों ने 1,800 संघ सैनिकों और बड़ी संख्या में वैगन टीमस्टर्स पर हमला किया, जिसमें करीब 1,500 संघ लड़ाके मारे गए।

1878 भारत में प्रशासक, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति और सुप्रीम कोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे अधिवक्ता, लेखक मौरिस लिनफोर्ड जेवियर का जन्म लंदन में हुआ।  सर मौरिस जेवियर ब्रिटिश वकील, जज और अकादमिक प्रशासक थे। उन्होंने 1938 से 1950 तक दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति और 1937 से 1943 तक भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में कार्य किया। उन्हें 1948 में दिल्ली, भारत में कॉलेज मिरांडा हाउस की स्थापना करने का श्रेय दिया जाता है।

25 अप्रैल 1874 को बोलोग्ना, इटली के राज्य (निधन 20 जुलाई 1937 रोम) में विख्यात इतालवी आविष्कारक और इलेक्ट्रिकल इंजीनियर गुग्लिल्मो गियोवानी मारिया मार्कोनी का जन्म हुआ। उन्हें दुनिया व्यावहारिक रेडियो तरंग-आधारित वायरलेस टेलीग्राफ प्रणाली के निर्माण रेडियो के आविष्कारक के रूप में जानती है। वायरलेस टेलीग्राफी के विकास में उनके योगदान का सम्मान करते हुए मार्कोनी को कार्ल फर्डिनेंड ब्रौन के साथ 1909 में भौतिकी में नोबेल पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

1900 संयुक्त राष्ट्र के प्रथम महासचिव के चुनाव तक कार्यवाहक महासचिव रहे ग्लेडविन जेब का जन्म हुआ।

1901 न्यूयॉर्क ऑटोमोबाइल लाइसेंस प्लेट जारी करने वाला पहला अमेरिकी राज्य बना।

1904 जाने-माने हिंदी साहित्यकार चंद्रबली पांडेय का जन्म हुआ।

1905 दक्षिण अफ्रीका में श्वेतों को चुनावों में मतदान करने का अधिकार मिला।

1919 संयुक्त प्रांत के प्रधानमंत्री और उत्तर प्रदेश के दो बार मुख्यमंत्री रहे प्रमुख कांग्रेसी राजनीतिज्ञ हेमवती नंदन बहुगुणा का जन्म पौड़ी गढ़वाल में हुआ।

1922 हिंदू संत शिवानंद सरस्वती के शिष्य जाने माने हिंदू सन्यासी और ऋषिकेश स्थित डिवाइन लाइफ सोसाइटी आॅफ इंडिया के महासचिव स्वामी कृष्णानंद का जन्म हुआ।

1925 पॉल वोन हिंडनबर्ग जर्मनी के राष्ट्रपति चुने गये।

1933 नाजी जर्मनी ने स्कूलों और विश्वविद्यालयों में भीड़ एकत्र होने के खिलाफ कानून जारी किया, जिसमें सार्वजनिक स्कूलों और विश्वविद्यालयों में भाग लेने में सक्षम यहूदी छात्रों की संख्या अत्यंत सीमित कर दी गई।

1943 हिंदी, तमिल, तेलुगू, मलयालम, कन्नड़ आदि अनेक भाषाओं की लोकप्रिय बोल्ड, खूबसूरत अभिनेत्री हुईं देविका का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ।

1953 कैंब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय के वैज्ञानिकों जेम्स डी वॉटसन एवं फ्रांसिस क्रिक ने डीएनए संरचना की व्याख्या कर बताया कि जीव अपना वंश कैसे बढ़ाते हैं। इस वैज्ञानिकों को इस खोज पर 1962 में नोबेल पुरस्कार मिला।

1954 बेल लैब्स ने न्यूयार्क में पहली बार सोलर बैटरी बनाने की घोषणा की।

1957 सोडियम परमाणु रिएक्टर पहली बार प्रायोगिक तौर पर संचालित किया गया।

1961 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड अभिनेता, लेखक, निर्देशक करन राजदान का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय - अमेरिकी राजनैतिक विष्लेषक, लेखक, आलोचक और फिल्मकार दिनेश डिसूजा का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1962 जानी मानी, बोल्ड खूबसूरत मंच कलाकार,, तमिल कवियत्री, गीतकार, लेखिका, राजनेत्री और द्रविड़ मुनेत्र कझगम पार्टी की लोकसभा सदस्य Thamizhachi Thangapandian Sumathy का जन्म मल्लनकिनारु तमिलनाडु में हुआ।

1964 जेम्स बाल्डविन के लोकप्रिय ब्लूज फॉर मिस्टर चार्ली सोप ओपेरा का प्रीमियर न्यूयॉर्क में हुआ।

1967 गुजरात में बड़ौदा के राजा, क्रिकेट प्रशासक, क्रिकेटर समरजीत सिंह गायकवाड़ का जन्म हुआ।

1969 जाने माने भारतीय फुटबॉलर आईएम विजयन का जन्म हुआ।

1977 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के टेनिस खिलाड़ी जैफ कोएत्जी का जन्म हुआ।

1980 अमेरिकी सेना ने तेहरान स्थित अपने दूतावास से 53 बंधकों को छुड़ाने का गोपनीय अभियान चलाया, लेकिन इसमें सफलता नहीं मिल पाई और आठ अमेरिकी सैनिक मारे गए। ये संकट 444 दिन तक चला और अंतत जनवरी 1981 में इन बंधकों को ईरान ने रिहा कर दिया।

1981 जापान के सुरूगा में परमाणु ऊर्जा संयंत्र की मरम्मत कार्य कर रहे 100 से अधिक मजदूर परमाणु विकिरण का शिकार हो गये।

1982 भारतीय टेलीविजन प्रसारण दूरदर्शन श्वेत श्याम से बहुरंगी हुआ।

1987 जाने माने गायक और संगीतकार अरिजीत सिंह का जन्म ज़ियागंज अज़ीमगंज में हुआ।

1989 बॉलीवुड के जाने माने प्लैबैक सिंगर कमाल खान का जन्म पटियाला, पंजाब में हुआ। कमाल ने 2010 में गायन प्रतियोगिता, सा रे गा मा पा सिंगिंग सुपरस्टार जीता। उन्होंने द डर्टी पिक्चर फिल्म से इश्क सूफियाना के लिए जी सिने पुरस्कार फ्रेश सिंगिंग टैलेंट 2012 जीता। इसी दिन इथियोपिया में दिमागी बुखार से 20 हजार से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत। यह बीमारी सूडान तक फैली और वहां भी कम से कम 400 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1989 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन एवं फिल्म अभिनेत्री, निर्मात्री, और स्टेज शो परफाॅर्मर श्रेया पिलगांवकर का जन्म हुआ।

2000 भारतीय हिंदी फिल्मों के सुप्रसिद्ध कथा, पटकथा और कहानी लेखक पंडित मुखराम शर्मा का निधन हुआ।

2003 अमेरिका समर्थित शांति योजना के परिणाम स्वरूप फिलिस्तीन में नये मंत्रिमंडल के गठन पर सहमति बनी।

2004 जिम्बाव्वे ने श्रीलंका के विरुद्ध एक दिवसीय मैचों में न्यूनतम 35 रनों का रिकॉर्ड बनाया। इसी दिन महिलाओं के जीवन के लिए मार्च 2003 के तहत आंशिक-गर्भपात प्रतिबंध अधिनियम और गर्भपात पर अन्य प्रतिबंधों का विरोध करने के लिए वाशिंगटन डी.सी. में 5 से 8 लाख के करीब प्रदर्शनकारियों ने प्रतिभाग कर कानून वापस लेने की मांग की।

2005 अमागासाकी, ह्योगो, जापान में एक रेल पटरी से उतर गई और बड़ी इमारत में घुस गई, जिससे चालक और 106 से अधिक यात्रियों की मौत और 555 के करीब लोग घायल हुए। इसी दिन भारतीय संत स्वामी रंगनाथनंदा का निधन हुआ।

2007 बिरला इंस्टीट्यूट आफ टेक्नोलॉजी एंड साइंसेज का नया परिसर पनामा (बहरीन) में खुला। इसी दिन पूर्व सोवियत और रूसी नेता बोरिस येल्तसिन का अंतिम संस्कार करने के लिए 1894 में सम्राट अलेक्जेंडर तृतीय के अंतिम संस्कार के बाद रूसी रूढ़िवादी चर्च ने राज्य के प्रमुख के लिए पहली बार मंजूरी दी।

2008 संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने मलेरिया के प्रति जन-जागरूकता, शोध, उपचारादि के प्रति ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए विश्व मलेरिया दिवस मनाने की शुरुआत की। मलेरिया से हर साल लाखों लोग मरते हैं। खरबों रुपये इलाज पर खर्च होते हैं। परिवार से लेकर स्वास्थ्य-चिकित्सा सेवाओं तक पर अतिरिक्त कार्य का बोझ पड़ता है। अपना और दूसरों का ख्याल रखें। मलेरिया का प्रसार रोकने में अपनी क्षमता, अपने स्तर का प्रयास करें। इसी दिन जाने माने बालीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता और निर्देशक आमिर खान को सिनेमा के क्षेत्र में महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए मास्टर दीनानाथ मंगेशकर स्मृति विशेष पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया।

2010 दक्षिण अमेरिकी राज्य मिसीसिपी में आए तूफान के कारण तीन बच्चों सहित दस लोगों की मौत हो गई। इसी दिन 2010 में भारतीय नौसेना ने पुराने हो चुके चेतक हेलीकाप्टरों की जगह नए लाइट यूटिलिटी हेलीकाप्टर (एलयूएच) खरीदने की प्रक्रिया शुरू की।

2013 ब्रिटेन ने सोमालिया में अपना दूतावास 22 वर्षों के अंतराल के बाद पुनः खोला। इसी दिन 2013 में रूस के रामेंस्की में एक अस्पताल में लगी भीषण आग में 38 लोग मारे गए।

2015 नेपाल की राजधानी काठमांडू के नजदीक आए भीषण भूकंप से 8 हजार से भी ज्यादा लोगों की मौत, हजारों घायल और भारी तबाही हुई।

 2016 ऑस्ट्रेलियाई राजनीतिज्ञ, न्यू साउथ वेल्स के 33वें प्रधानमंत्री टॉम लुईस का निधन हुआ।

2018 किशोरियों और युवा महिलाओं के यौन शोषण, हत्याओं के आरोपों में कई साल से जेल में बंद आसाराम बापू को कोर्ट ने 16 साल की एक नाबालिग के बलात्कार मामले में आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई। इसी दिन मदीहा गौहर के नाम से मशहूर पाकिस्तानी अभिनेत्री, नाटककार और सामाजिक थिएटर की निर्देशक और महिला अधिकार कार्यकर्ता का निधन हुआ।

2019 जॉन हैवलिसेक नामक अमेरिकी बास्केटबॉल खिलाड़ी का निधन हुआ।

2020 भारत में कोरोना के चलते मरने वाले लोगों की संख्या बढ़ कर 779 पहुंची, संक्रमितों की संख्या 24,942 से अधिक हुई। 

2021 पद्म भूषण सम्मान प्राप्त मशहूर शास्त्रीय गायक पंडित राजन मिश्र का निधन हुआ। 2021 में इसी दिन इराक में बगदाद के कोरोना अस्पताल में सिलेंडर फटने से लगी भीषण आग में 82 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2023 कांग्रेस महासचिव प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा ने कर्नाटक के चामराजनगर के हानूर कस्बे में विशाल जनसभा को संबोधित करते हुए दावा किया कि लोगों का पैसा मंत्रियों और नेताओं के आवासों तक पहुंच गया है और भाजपा ने लोगों के साथ विश्वासघात किया है। उन्होंने कहा, अगर मेरे पास 1.5 लाख करोड़ रुपये होते, तो 100 अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान (एम्स), 117 ईएसआई अस्पताल, 750 किलोमीटर मेट्रो रेल, 2,250 किलोमीटर एक्सप्रेस-वे और 30 लाख घर बन सकते थे। उस पैसे का क्या हुआ? यह पैसा भाजपा नेताओं के आवास में है। इसी दिन 2023 में प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी गायक, कार्यकर्ता और अभिनेता हैरी बेलाफोनेट का निधन हुआ।

1472 Leon Battista Alberti, renowned Italian writer, poet and philosopher, passed away.

1502 Georg Major, famous German theologian and academic, is born.

1529 Famous Italian philosopher and scientist Francesco Patrizi was born.

1607 In the Eighty Years' War the Dutch fleet destroyed the Spanish fleet anchored at Gibraltar.

1644 China's Ming dynasty ends when the Chongzhen Emperor commits suicide during a peasant revolt led by Li Jicheng.

1792 A large number of people gathered in Paris to watch the first use of the guillotine machine to hang a person sentenced to death. In this machine, the man was made to lie down and a heavy blade was dropped from above due to which the man's head was separated from the torso. On this occasion, Highwayman Nicholas J. Pelletier was sentenced to death by hanging. Pelletier became the first person to be guillotined.

1792 The famous French musician, singer and poet Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle composed the song Lamarseilles, which is the national anthem of France.

1678 The old city of Ypres, Belgium was captured by the French army on 25 April.

1809 Treaty of Amritsar signed between the British East India Company and Ranjit Singh, the Sikh ruler of Punjab.

1829 Charles Fremantle arrives off the coast of modern Western Australia in HMS Challenger (a 28-gun 6-rate, giant cruiser of the Royal Navy, launched on 14 November 1826 at Portsmouth, England) off the coast of modern Western Australia, before declaring the Swan River Colony.

1864 During the American Civil War, 8,000 Confederate soldiers attack 1,800 Union soldiers and a large number of wagon teamsters at Marks Mills, killing about 1,500 Union soldiers.

1878 Maurice Linford Xavier, an administrator in India, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, lawyer and writer, was born in London. Sir Maurice Xavier was a British lawyer, judge and academic administrator. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University from 1938 to 1950 and Chief Justice of India from 1937 to 1943. He is credited with founding the college Miranda House in Delhi, India in 1948.

Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi, noted Italian inventor and electrical engineer, was born on 25 April 1874 in Bologna, Kingdom of Italy (died 20 July 1937 in Rome). He is known to the world as the inventor of radio, creating a practical radio wave-based wireless telegraph system. Marconi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909, along with Carl Ferdinand Braun, in recognition of his contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy.

1900 Gladwin Jebb, who served as acting Secretary-General until the election of the first Secretary-General of the United Nations, was born.

1901 New York becomes the first US state to issue automobile license plates.

1904 Well-known Hindi litterateur Chandrabali Pandey was born.

1905 Whites in South Africa got the right to vote in elections.

1919 Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, a prominent Congress politician who was Prime Minister of the United Provinces and twice Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was born in Pauri Garhwal.

1922 Swami Krishnananda, a well-known Hindu monk, a disciple of Hindu saint Shivananda Saraswati and general secretary of Rishikesh-based Divine Life Society of India, was born.

1925 Paul von Hindenburg was elected President of Germany.

1933 Nazi Germany issues laws against gatherings in schools and universities, severely limiting the number of Jewish students able to attend public schools and universities.

1943 Devika, a popular bold and beautiful actress in many languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada etc., was born in Madras.

1953 Cambridge University scientists James D. Watson and Francis Crick explained the structure of DNA and explained how organisms reproduce. These scientists received the Nobel Prize in 1962 for this discovery.

1954 Bell Labs announced the creation of the first solar battery in New York.

1957 The sodium nuclear reactor was operated experimentally for the first time.

1961 Famous Bollywood actor, writer, director Karan Razdan was born. On this day, well-known Indian-American political analyst, writer, critic and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza was born in Bombay.

1962 Thamizhachi Thangapandian Sumathy, a well-known, bold and beautiful stage artist, Tamil poet, lyricist, writer, politician and Lok Sabha member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party, was born in Tamil Nadu.

1964 James Baldwin's popular Blues for Mister Charlie soap opera premieres in New York.

1967 Baroda king, cricket administrator, cricketer Samarjit Singh Gaikwad was born in Gujarat.

1969 Famous Indian footballer IM Vijayan was born.

1977 South African tennis player Jeff Coetzee was born.

1980 The US Army launched a secret operation to rescue 53 hostages from its embassy in Tehran, but it was not successful and eight American soldiers were killed. This crisis continued for 444 days and finally in January 1981, these hostages were released by Iran.

1981 More than 100 workers doing repair work at the nuclear power plant in Suruga, Japan, became victims of nuclear radiation.

1982 Indian television broadcasting Doordarshan goes from black and white to multicolored.

1987 Well-known singer and musician Arijit Singh was born in Ziaganj Azimganj.
