197 लुगडुनम युद्ध में सम्राट सेप्टिमियस सेवेरस ने सूदखोर क्लोडियस एल्बिनस को हराया। यह रोमन सेनाओं के मध्य सर्वाधिक खूनी लड़ाई थी।

356 कॉन्स्टेंटियस द्वितीय की मूर्ति पूजा विरोधी नीति से रोमन साम्राज्य में मूर्तियों की पूजा पर रोक लगा दी गई।

1389 दिल्ली में तुगलक सल्तनत के संस्थापक सुल्तान गयासुद्दीन तुगलक द्वितीय की हत्या हुई। वे 8 सितंबर 1320 से मृत्युपर्यंत सुल्तान रहे।

1473 महान गणितज्ञ और खगोल शास्त्री निकोलस कॉपरनिकस का जन्म पोलेंड में हुआ। उन्होंने 1503 में पता लगाया कि पृथ्वी, सूर्य के चारों ओर 24 घंटों में एक बार अपना चक्कर पूरा करती है। इस खोज ने इस विश्वास की धज्जियां उड़ा दीं कि सूर्य पृथ्वी की परिक्रमा करता है।

1553 साल्फेल्ड, सैक्सोनी में इरास्मस रेनहोल्ड (जन्म साल्फेल्ड, सैक्सोनी, 22 अक्टूबर 1511) का निधन हुआ। जो विख्यात जर्मन खगोलशास्त्री और गणितज्ञ थे, जिन्हें अपनी पीढ़ी का सबसे प्रभावशाली खगोलशास्त्री शिक्षक माना गया।

1570 फ्रांस के राज्य एंजाऊ के ड्यूक यानी शासक ने दक्षिणी नीदरलैंड पर फ्रांसीसी सेना के सहयोग से हमला किया।

1618 वेनिस शांति संधि के परिणामस्वरूप आस्ट्रेलिया और वेनिस का युद्ध समाप्त हुआ।

1630 मराठा साम्राज्य के पहले शासक छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज का जन्म जुन्नर में हुआ।

1674 ब्रिटिश फौजें डच युद्ध से हटीं।

1717 विख्यात अंग्रेज अभिनेता तथा मंच संचालक डेविड गैरिक का जन्म हुआ।

1719 मुगल शासक फर्रुखसियार यानी अबुल मुजफ्फर मुइनुद्दीन मोहम्मद शाह की हत्या हुई।

1807 तुर्की के साथ युद्ध में रूस को मदद देने ब्रिटिश सैनिक पहुँचे।

1819 ब्रिटिश यात्री एवं खोजी विलियम स्मिथ ने दक्षिण शेटलैंड द्वीप समूह की खोज की और किंग जॉर्ज तृतीय के नाम पर द्वीप समूह को अपने अधिकार में लिया।

1828 स्वास्थ्य चिकित्सा व्यवस्था सुधार के लिए अमेरिका में बोस्टन सोसायटी गठित हुई।

1878 विख्यात वैज्ञानिक और आविष्कारक थॉमस अल्वा एडीसन ने फोनोग्राफ का पेटेंट कराया।

1881 अमेरिकी राज्य कान्सास सभी मादक पेय पदार्थों पर रोक लगाने वाला पहला राज्य बना।

1884 दक्षिणी अमेरिका में 60 से अधिक बवंडर आए, यह अमेरिकी इतिहास में सबसे बड़े और सबसे व्यापक बवंडरों की घटना रिकार्ड की गई।

1891 प्रमुख बांग्ला अखबार अमृत बाजार पत्रिका का 19 फरवरी की रात दैनिक प्रकाशन का मुद्रण शुरू हुआ। इसे कलकत्ता के अमीर परिवार के दो भाइयों शिशिर कुमार और मोतीलाल बोस ने शुरु किया था। पहला अंक बाजार में 20 फरवरी 1891 को आया। यह समूह अंग्रेजी दैनिक टेलीग्राफ का प्रकाशन करता है और ब्रिटिश मीडिया मुगल रूपर्ट मर्डोक के स्टार टीवी समूह को भारत में इसी ने खरीदा। एबीपी स्टार आनंद बाजार पत्रिका समूह का है अब।

1895 जाने माने प्रारंभिक हिंदी प्रकाशक, मुद्रक, लेखक, पत्रकार मुंशी नवलकिशोर का निधन दिल्ली में हुआ।

1898 राजस्थान के प्रसिद्ध क्रांतिकारी तथा समाज सेवक गोकुलभाई भट्ट का जन्म हुआ।

1900 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय राजनीतिज्ञ बलवंतराय मेहता का जन्म हुआ।

1906 राष्ट्रीय स्वयं सेवक संघ के दूसरे सरसंघचालक प्रमुख विचारक एवं विश्व हिंदू परिषद के संस्थापक माधवराव सदाशिवराव गोलवलकर का जन्म रामटेक में हुआ। 

1911 प्रख्यात ब्रिटिश फिल्म अभिनेत्री मेर्ली ओबराॅन का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1915 प्रमुख स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, कांग्रेस के नरमपंथी नेता, विचारक, वक्ता गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले का निधन हुआ।

1917 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार, लघु कथाकार, नाटककार और निबंधकार कार्सन मैकुलर्स का जन्म हुआ।

1922 बेअंत सिंह का जन्म हुआ। वे पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री रहे जिन्हें खालिस्तानी आतंकवादियों ने कार बम विस्फोट कर मार डाला।

1925 भारत के विख्यात शिल्पकार, अनेक जानी मानी हस्तियों की मूर्ति बनाने वाले राम वी. सुतार का जन्म धुले, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1930 प्रख्यात दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म निर्देशक के विश्वनाथ का जन्म हुआ।

1940 सुरेंद्र मोहन पाठक का जन्म लाहौर में हुआ। यह प्रमुख भारतीय अपराध, जासूसी उपन्यासकार हुए। इनके जैसे साहित्य को बाजारू या लुगदी साहित्य कहा जाता है।

1942 द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान उत्तरी ऑस्ट्रेलियाई शहर डार्विन पर जापानी लड़ाकू विमानों के हमले में लगभग 200 के करीब लोग मारे गए।

1943 जानी मानी बांग्ला, हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल बीना बनर्जी का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1949 विख्यात भारतीय वैज्ञानिक, बायोकैमिस्ट, पद्मभूषण एवं पद्मश्री सम्मान प्राप्त पद्मनाभन बलराम का जन्म हुआ।

1956 प्रख्यात स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, कांग्रेस के विचारक और नेता समाज सचेतक शिक्षाशास्त्री आचार्य नरेंद्र देव का निधन हुआ।

1959 साइप्रस की स्वतंत्रता के बारे में ब्रिटेन, तुर्की और यूनान के बीच एक समझौता हुआ।

1963 जानी मानी असमिया भरतनाट्यम नृत्यांगना, थिएटर और टेलीविजन कलाकार जया सील घोष का जन्म गुवाहाटी में हुआ।

1963 सोवियत संघ और क्यूबा के बीच सहमति के बाद क्यूबा से अपनी सेना हटाने के लिए सोवियत संघ तैयार हुआ।

1964 जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री सोनू वालिया का जन्म हुआ। इनका वास्तविक नाम सनजीत कौर था। यह मिस इंडिया पीजेंट भी चुनी गईं।

1977 बंबई में जाने माने मराठी फिल्म अभिनेता, गायक, संगीतकार, पटकथाकार, निर्माता, निर्देशक, टेलीविजन शो प्रस्तोता अवधूत गुप्ते का जन्म हुआ।

1978 बांग्ला और हिंदी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध गायक, संगीतकार और अभिनेता पंकज मलिक का निधन हुआ।

1982 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की जानी मानी अभिनेत्री नंदना का जन्म कोझिकोड़ में हुआ।

1986 जाने माने ब्रिटिश फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेता कवि शास्त्री का जन्म लंदन में हुआ। एवं इसी दिन भारत में पहली बार कंप्यूटरीकृत रेलवे आरक्षण टिकट की शुरूआत दिल्ली में हुई।

1989 लेबनान में गृहयुद्ध समाप्त करने के उद्देश्य से मुस्लिम और ईसाई नेता अरब लीग से बातचीत करने कुवैत पहुंचे।

1990 जानी मानी मराठी फिल्म अभिनेत्री और थिएटर कलाकार पर्ण पेठे का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1991 सरकार की जनविरोधी नीतियों से त्रस्त प्रदर्शनकारियों ने रोमानिया के राष्ट्रपति इयान इलूफू के इस्तीफे की मांग की।

1992 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय चित्रकार नारायण श्रीधर बेंद्रे का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन केन लुडविग की संगीतमय प्रस्तुति क्रेजी फॉर यू का प्रीमियर न्यूयॉर्क शहर में हुआ। यह मंचन शटबर्ट थियेटर की स्थापना के दिन हुआ। 1622 में यह थिएटर न्यूयॉर्क में 19 फरवरी को स्थापित किया गया था।

1993 एक 22 वर्षीय लड़की माइक्रिगन को 42वीं मिस यूएसए चुना गया।

1993 हैती के पास समुद्र में एक जहाज डूबने से लगभग 1500 यात्रियों जान गयी।

1997 चीन में आर्थिक सुधारों की शुरुआत करने वाले डेंग शियाओ पिंग का निधन हुआ।

1999 डेनमार्क के वैज्ञानिक डॉक्टर लेन वेस्टरगार्ड ने वाशिंगटन में प्रकाश की गति धीमी करने का प्रयोग करके दिखाया।

2000 दक्षिण प्रशांत महासागरीय देश तुवालू संयुक्त राष्ट्र का 189वां सदस्य बना। इसी दिन मिस्र के राष्ट्रपति हुस्त्री मुबारक ने लेबनान का दौरा किया। सन 1952 के बाद यह दोनों देशों के बीच इस तरह की पहली यात्रा थी।

2001 ब्राजील की जेलों में हुए दंगे में 8 लोग मरे। इसी दिन मुल्ला उमर शासित अफगानिस्तान ने आतंकी ओसामा बिन लादेन को अमेरिका प्रत्यर्पित करने की घोषणा की।

2003 इंडोनेशिया की संसद ने जून 2004 में होने वाले आम चुनाव में हर पार्टी को 30 फीसदी टिकट महिला उम्मीदवारों को देने संबंधी व्यवस्था दी। इसी दिन संयुक्त अरब अमीरात ने दाऊद के भाई इकबाल शेख तथा उसके सहयोगी एजाज पठान को भारत को सौंपा। इसी दिन ईरान की सेना रिवोल्यूशनरी गार्ड की सैन्य उड़ान सिराक पर्वत में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई।

2004 कीटनाशकों और औद्योगिक रसायनों पर प्रतिबंध के लिए स्वीडन की राजधानी स्टॉकहोम में हुई संधि का विश्व के 50 से अधिक देशों ने अनुमोदन किया।

2006 पाकिस्तान ने हत्फ द्वितीय अब्दाली मिसाइल का परीक्षण किया।

2007 भारत-बांग्लादेश में आतंकवाद का मुकाबला करने पर सहमति बनी। इसी दिन गाड़ी नंबर 9001 अप अटारी स्पेशल समझौता एक्सप्रेस में विस्फोट के बाद लगी आग में 68 यात्री मारे गए।

2008 फिदेल कास्त्रों ने क्यूबा के राष्ट्रपति पद से औपचारिक रूप से इस्तीफा दे दिया, उनका स्थान उनके भाई राउल कास्त्रो ने लिया। इसी दिन संस्कृत कवि स्वामी श्रीरामभद्राचार्य को उनके महांकाव्य श्री भार्वराधवीयम के लिए वाचस्पति सम्मान प्रदान किया गया।

2009 केंद्र सरकार ने उस विधेयक को समाप्त करने का निर्णय किया जिसमें 47 उत्कृष्ट शैक्षिक संस्थानों को आरक्षण के दायरे से बाहर रखने की व्यवस्था की गई थी।

2010 जाने-माने फिल्म अभिनेता निर्मल पांडे का निधन हुआ।

2012 मैक्सिको के न्यूवो लियोन के जेल दंगे में 44 लोग मारे गए।

2014 सोशल मीडिया कंपनी फेसबुक ने घोषणा की कि वह व्हाट्सएप को 19 बिलियन डॉलर में खरीदेगी।

2016 विश्व प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार हार्पर ली का निधन हुआ।

2017 भारत के 39वें मुख्य न्यायाधीश हुए अल्तमस कबीर का निधन हुआ।

2019 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी कवि और प्रमुख समकालीन प्रखर आलोचक नामवर सिंह का निधन हुआ।

2020 प्रसिद्ध ब्राजीलियाई फिल्म निर्माता, अभिनेता, संगीतकार, पटकथा लेखक और टेलीविजन हॉरर होस्ट का निधन हुआ।

2021 19 वर्षीय प्रदर्शनकारी म्या थ्वे थ्वे खिन म्यांमार में सेना द्वारा निर्वाचित सरकार का तख्ता पलटने विरोध में होने वाले प्रदर्शनों में मरने वाली पहली ज्ञात महिला बनीं।

2022 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस महासचिव और कांग्रेस की उत्तर प्रदेश प्रभारी प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा ने उत्तर प्रदेश की सत्ताधारी पार्टी भाजपा पर सवाल खड़े करते हुए कहा कि मोदी और योगी जो पैसे अपने विज्ञापनों पर खर्च करते हैं उसे अगर जनता को सशक्त करने में लगा देते तो कितनी तरक्की होती। कांग्रेस महासचिव ने हरचंदपुर विधानसभा क्षेत्र में नुक्कड़ जनसभा को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि केंद्र में कांग्रेस की सरकारें थी तो 27 करोड़ लोग गरीबी से ऊपर उठे थे और इस सरकार में नीचे आ गए हैं, छोटे-छोटे धंधे बंद हो गए। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रदेश में लावारिस मवेशियों की समस्या है, जबकि छत्तीसगढ़ में कांग्रेस की सरकार है और वहां की सरकार लोगों से कहती है कि आप लावारिस मवेशियों को पालोगे तो हम आपसे दो रुपये किलो गोबर खरीदेंगे। वाड्रा ने कहा कि सरकार का काम होता है, आपका विकास करना और हम देख रहे हैं कि उत्तर प्रदेश में सरकार को जो काम करना चाहिए, वह नहीं कर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार का काम होता है, आपको अपने पैरों पर खड़ा करना, लेकिन बड़े-बड़े विज्ञापन लग रहे हैं। मोदी जी, योगी जी के विज्ञापन हजार करोड़ रुपये के हैं, ये पैसे जनता को सशक्त करने में लगा देते तो कितनी तरक्की हो जाती।

1389 Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq II, the founder of the Tughlaq Sultanate, was assassinated in Delhi. He remained Sultan from 8 September 1320 till his death.

1473 The great mathematician and astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus was born in Poland. He discovered in 1503 that the Earth completes its rotation around the Sun once in 24 hours. This discovery shattered the belief that the Sun revolved around the Earth.

1553 Erasmus Reinhold (born Saalfeld, Saxony, 22 October 1511) died in Saalfeld, Saxony. He was a renowned German astronomer and mathematician, considered the most influential astronomy teacher of his generation.

1570 The Duke of Anjou, the ruler of the French kingdom, attacked the Southern Netherlands with the help of the French army.

1891 The daily publication of the leading Bengali newspaper Amrit Bazar Patrika started on the night of 19 February. It was started by two brothers, Sishir Kumar and Motilal Bose, from a rich family of Calcutta. The first issue came out in the market on 20 February 1891. The group publishes the English daily Telegraph and bought British media mogul Rupert Murdoch's Star TV group in India. ABP Star now belongs to Anand Bazaar Patrika Group.

1895 Munshi Navalkishore, a well-known early Hindi publisher, printer, writer, journalist, died in Delhi.

1898 Gokulbhai Bhatt, Rajasthan's famous revolutionary and social worker, was born.

1900 Famous Indian politician Balwantrai Mehta was born.

1906 Madhavrao Sadashivrao Golwalkar, the second Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, prominent thinker and founder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, was born in Ramtek.

1911 Merle O'Brien, famous British film actress, was born in Mumbai.

1915 Prominent freedom fighter, moderate leader of Congress, thinker, orator Gopal Krishna Gokhale passed away.

1917 Carson McCullers, famous American novelist, short story writer, playwright and essayist, was born.

1922 Beant Singh was born. He was the Chief Minister of Punjab who was killed by Khalistani terrorists by blasting a car bomb.

1925 Ram V. Sutar, a renowned Indian sculptor and creator of statues of many famous personalities, was born in Dhule, Maharashtra.

1930 K Vishwanath, eminent South Indian film director, was born.

1940 Surendra Mohan Pathak was born in Lahore. He was a prominent Indian crime and detective novelist. Literature like these is called market or pulp literature.

1942 Around 200 people are killed in an attack by Japanese fighter planes on the northern Australian city of Darwin during World War II.

1943 Well-known Bengali, Hindi film actress and model Bina Banerjee was born in Calcutta.

1986 Well-known British film and television actor Kavi Shastri was born in London. And on the same day, for the first time in India, computerized railway reservation ticket was launched in Delhi.

1989 Muslim and Christian leaders arrive in Kuwait to negotiate with the Arab League to end the civil war in Lebanon.

1990 Famous Marathi film actress and theater artist Parna Pethe was born in Pune.

1991 Protestors, upset with the government's anti-people policies, demand the resignation of Romanian President Ioan Ilufu.

1992 Famous Indian painter Narayan Sridhar Bendre passed away. On the same day, Ken Ludwig's musical Crazy for You premiered in New York City. This staging took place on the day the Shatbart Theater was established. This theater was established in New York on February 19 in 1622.

1993 A 22-year-old girl from Michigan was chosen the 42nd Miss USA.
