475 बीजान्टिन सम्राट जेनो को कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल अपनी जान बचाकर भागना पड़ा, क्योंकि उनके सेनापति बेसिलिस्कस ने साम्राज्य पर कर लिया और उसका इरादा जेनो को मार डालने का था।

690 सेंट पीटर्स, वेयरमाउथ (सुंदरलैंड) में बेनेडिक्ट बिस्कोप (बिस्कोप बैडिंगिंग) का निधन हुआ। वह प्रसिद्ध एंग्लो-सैक्सन मठाधीश और धर्मशास्त्री थे। उन्होंने प्रसिद्ध पुस्तकालय मॉन्कवियरमाउथ-जारो प्रीरी की स्थापना की थी। मरणोपरांत उन्हें संत घोषित किया गया।

1528 स्वीडन के गुस्ताव प्रथम को स्वीडन के राजा का ताज आधिकारिक रूप से पहनाया गया। वे जून 1523 में अपने चुनाव के बाद से ही शासन कर रहे थे।

1554 दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया के इतिहास में सबसे बड़ा साम्राज्य बर्मीस तुंगू राजवंश स्थापित करने वाले बेइनांग की सम्राट के तौर पर ताजपोशी की गई।

1576 हार्लेम नीदरलैंड्स में पेट्रस स्क्रिवेरियस (पीटर श्रिज्वर) का जन्म हुआ जो प्रसिद्ध डच इतिहासकार और लेखक हुए।

1598 मराठा शासक छत्रपति शिवाजी राजे भोंसले की मां राजमाता कही गई जीजाबाई का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के बुलढ़ाणा नगर में हुआ।

1708 छत्रपति शाहू जी को मराठा शासक का ताज पहनाया गया।

1757 ब्रिटेन ने पश्चिम बंगाल के बंदेल प्रांत को पुर्तगाल से अपने कब्जे में लिया।

1808 पूर्व स्कॉटिश विद्वत समाज ने वर्नेरियन नेचुरल हिस्ट्री सोसाइटी के निर्माण के लिए संगठनात्मक बैठक एडिनबर्ग में आयोजित की। 1808 में इसी दिन 669 में स्थापित सेंट मैरी चर्च, रिकुल्वर को तटीय कटाव से बचाने की जॉन रेनी की योजना को चर्च के एंग्लो-सैक्सन वास्तुकला और मूर्तिकला का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण होने के बावजूद तोड़ने की मंजूरी दी गई।

1863 नरेंद्र नाथ दत्त यानी स्वामी विवेकानंद का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। कुछ बड़े होने पर उनका झुकाव आध्यात्म की ओर हुआ। युवावस्था में वे कई संतों, आध्यात्मिकों के संपर्क में आए और 1881 में विवेकानंद की मुलाकात रामकृष्ण परमहंस से हुई फिर वे उनके शिष्य बन गये। अपने गुरु रामकृष्ण से प्रभावित होकर उन्होंने 25 साल की उम्र में संन्यास ले लिया। संन्यास लेने के बाद उनका नाम स्वामी विवेकानंद पड़ा। 1886 में रामकृष्ण परमहंस का आखिरी समय बहुत कष्ट में गुजरा। वे गले के कैंसर के शिकार थे। उनका निधन हो गया। विवेकानंद ने 1897 में कलकत्ता में रामकृष्ण मिशन की स्थापना की। इसके एक साल बाद उन्होंने गंगा नदी के किनारे बेलूर में रामकृष्ण मठ की स्थापना की। 04 जुलाई 1902 को महज 39 वर्ष की अल्पायु में विवेकानंद का बेलूर मठ में निधन हो गया वे डायबिटीज के मरीज हुए। विवेकानंद मानते थे कि समाज की दशा दिशा को युवा बदल सकते हैं। उन्हें भरोसा था कि युवा अपनी कड़ी मेहनत, समर्पण और आध्यात्मिक शक्ति के माध्यम से भारत के भाग्य को बदल सकते हैं। युवाओं के लिए उनका संदेश था, मैं चाहता हूं कि लोहे की मांसपेशियां और स्टील की नसें हों, जिसके अंदर वैसा ही दिमाग रहता है जिससे वज्र बनता है। इस तरह के संदेशों के माध्यम से उन्होंने युवाओं में बुनियादी मूल्यों को स्थापित करने की कोशिश की। हिंदू धर्म में तब बहुत बुराइयां थीं। कथनी और करनी में भारी भेद था, विसंगतियां थीं। हिंदू धर्म की वर्णव्यवस्था में विवेकानंद चौथे वर्ण में आते थे, वे कायस्थ जाति के थे, जो तथाकथित उच्च वर्ण वालों के अत्याचारों से त्रस्त थे। इसकी व्यापक चर्चा और इसका विरोध विवेकानंद ने अपने वक्तव्यों में किया है लेकिन हिंदू धर्म के ध्वजाधारी कभी उसकी चर्चा नहीं करते। उन्हें गर्व इस बात का है कि उन्होंने शिकागो की धर्म संसद से हिंदू धर्म को अंतरराष्ट्रीय पहचान दिलाई। जबकि हिंदू धर्म के तथाकथित ठेकेदारों ने विवेकानंद को हिंदू धर्म के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में शिकागो की धर्म संसद में जाने देने की अनुमति नहीं दी थी।

1869 विख्यात स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, समाजसेवी और शिक्षा शास्त्री भारत रत्न भगवान दास का जन्म वाराणसी में हुआ।

1876 प्रख्यात अमरीकी कथाकार, लेखक जैक लंदन का जन्म अमेरिका के कैलीफोर्निया में हुआ।

1984 भारत सरकार ने स्वामी विवेकानंद के जन्मदिन (12 जनवरी) को राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस के रूप में मनाने का ऐलान किया और 1985 से हर वर्ष विवेकानंद की जयंती को राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

1866 लंदन में रॉयल एयरोनॉटिकल सोसायटी की स्थापना हुई।

1876 जैक लंडन के नाम से दुनिया भर में मशहूर अमेरिकी कथाकार जॉन ग्रिफिथ चानी का जन्म सैन फ्रांसिस्को, कैलिफोर्निया में हुआ। वे प्रभावशाली अमेरिकी उपन्यासकार, पत्रकार मानव अधिकार कार्यकर्ता. और व्यावसायिक कथा साहित्य और अमेरिकी पत्रिकाओं के अग्रणी अमेरिकी लेखकों में से एक हुए और अंतरराष्ट्रीय सेलिब्रिटी बने। लेखन से लंडन बड़ी संपत्ति अर्जित की। वह उस शैली के भी प्रर्वतक थे जो बाद में विज्ञान कथा के रूप में जानी गई। उन्होंने धर्म, सरकारों और पूंजीपतियों की जनविरोधी चालबाजियों, क्रूरताओं और शोषण तथा दमन का चित्रण अपने कथा साहित्य में किया है। आप उनका उपन्यास आयरन हील पढ़कर देखिए।

1889 अहमदिया मुस्लिम समुदाय के धर्मगुरु मिर्जा बशीर उद्दीन मोहम्मद अहमद का जन्म हुआ।

1895 भारत के प्रमुख चिकित्सा विशेषज्ञ, बायोकैमिस्ट, कैंसर के उपचार में अहम योगदान देने वाले येलप्रगाड़ा सुब्बाराव का जन्म भीमावरम में हुआ। इसी दिन इंग्लैंड, वेल्स और उत्तरी आयरलैंड में नेशनल ट्रस्ट फॉर हिस्टोरिक इंटरेस्ट अथवा नेचुरल ब्यूटी की स्थापना की गई।

1899 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय गणितज्ञ बद्रीनाथ प्रसाद का जन्म आजमगढ़ जिले के मुहम्मदाबाद के गोहना गाव में हुआ।

1901 प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी उमाशंकर दीक्षित का जन्म उत्तर प्रदेश के उन्नाव शहर में हुआ।

1908 पेरिस स्थित एफिल टॉवर से पहली बार लंबी दूरी का वायरलेस संदेश भेजा गया।

1911 यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ फिलीपींस कॉलेज ऑफ लॉ की औपचारिक रूप से स्थापना हुई। पहले छात्र के रूप में इसमें फिलीपीन के तीन भावी राष्ट्रपतियों ने प्रवेश लिया।

1917 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय अध्यात्मवादी महर्षि महेश योगी का जन्म जबलपुर शहर में हुआ।

1918 प्रख्यात हिदी फिल्म निर्माता-निर्देशक, गायक और संगीतकार सी. रामचंद्र यानी रामचंद्र नरहर चितालकर का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के अहमदनगर में हुआ।

1921 जाने माने भारतीय उद्योगपति और कारोबारी बसंत कुमार बिरला का जन्म कोलकाता में हुआ।

1931 प्रसिद्ध उर्दू कवि अहमद फराज का जन्म कोहाट, पाकिस्तान में हुआ।

1934 भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के महान क्रांतिकारी सूर्य सेन को चटगांव में फांसी दी गयी। उन्होने इंडियन रिपब्लिकन आर्मी की स्थापना की और चटगांव विद्रोह का सफल नेतृत्व किया।

1936 जम्मू एंड कश्मीर पीपुल्स डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी यानी पीडीपी के नेता और जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के मुख्यमंत्री रहे मुफ्ती मोहम्मद सईद का जन्म बिजबेहाड़ा में हुआ।

1940 कर्नाटक में भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रमुख नेता, मुख्यमंत्री रहे वीरप्पा मोइली का जन्म हुआ।

1941 भारतीय क्रांतिकारियों में से एक प्यारे लाल शर्मा का निधन हुआ।

1948 महात्मा गांधी ने अपना अंतिम भाषण दिया और सांप्रदायिक हिंसा के विरुद्ध अनशन में बैठने का फैसला किया। 12 जनवरी की शाम को दिए अपने आखिरी भाषण में गांधीजी ने कहा था कि सांप्रदायिक दंगों में बर्बादी देखने से बेहतर मौत को गले लगा लेना है। 1947 में देश के विभाजन के बाद देश भर में सांप्रदायिक दंगे होने लगे। हिंदू, मुस्लिम और सिख एक-दूसरे के खून के प्यासे हो गए। इन दंगों ने गांधीजी को झकझोर कर रख दिया। देश में दंगे रोकने के लिए उन्होंने 13 जनवरी से अनशन पर जाने का फैसला लिया। 5 दिन बाद गांधीजी की शर्त मान ली गई और देश में शांति लाने की पूरी कोशिश की गई। माना जाता है कि गांधीजी का आखिरी भाषण ही उनकी हत्या का कारण बना। 30 जनवरी 1948 को जब गांधीजी बिरला हाउस में प्रार्थना करने जा रहे थे, तभी आरएसएस से प्रभावित विनायक दामोदर सावरकर के शिष्य नाथूराम गोडसे ने उन पर तीन गोलियां चला दीं।

1950 संयुक्त प्रांत का नाम बदल कर ‘उत्तर प्रदेश’ रखा गया।

1958 मेरठ में अरुण गोविल का जन्म हुआ। यह दूरदर्शन और हिंदी बाॅलीवुड फिल्मों के अभिनेता हुए। इन्होंने दूरदर्शन धारावाहिक रामायण में राम की भूमिका निभाई।

1964 भारत के पूर्व गेंदबाज बापू नाडकर्णी ने मद्रास में इंग्लैंड के साथ पहले टेस्ट में लगातार 21 ओवर मेडन फेंके। छह गेदों के ओवर के इतिहास में यह विश्व रिकॉर्ड था। इसी दिन 1964 में मुस्लिम देश तंजानिया के एक हिस्से जंजीबार के विद्रोहियों ने क्रांति शुरु की, जंजीबार गणतंत्र की घोषणा की। 1964 में इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के राजनीतिज्ञ अजय माकन का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन उड़ीसा में भारतीय जनता पार्टी के जाने माने राजनेता, लोकसभा और राज्य सभा सदस्य रहे बिजयंत पंडा का जन्म कटक में हुआ।

1964 जेफ बेजोस के नाम से मशहूर जेफरी प्रेस्टन जोर्गेनसन का जन्म अल्बुकर्क, न्यू मैक्सिको में जन्म हुआ। विश्व विख्यात अमेरिकी व्यवसायी, मीडिया मालिक और निवेशक हैं। वह दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी ई-कॉमर्स और क्लाउड कंप्यूटिंग कंपनी अमेजॅन के संस्थापक, कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष और पूर्व अध्यक्ष और सीईओ हैं। नवंबर 2023 तक लगभग 170 बिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की कुल संपत्ति के साथ वह दुनिया के तीसरे सबसे अमीर व्यक्ति हैं। ब्लूमबर्ग बिलियनेयर्स इंडेक्स और फोर्ब्स दोनों के अनुसार, वह 2017 से 2021 तक सबसे अमीर थे। बेजोस का अपनी पत्नी मेकैंजी से तलाक हुआ तो वह दुनिया का सबसे महंगा तलाक बना जिसमें 25 अरब डालर दिए गये।

1665 विश्व प्रसिद्ध फ्रांस के गणितज्ञ पियरडी फरमा का निधन हुआ। इन्होंने गणित के कई नियम प्रतिपादित किये जो इन्हीं के नाम से जाने जाते हैं।

1972 भारत के प्रधानमंत्री रहे राजीव गांधी और कांग्रेस नेता सोनिया गांधी की बेटी और वर्तमान में कांग्रेस महासचिव प्रियंका गांधी का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1973 जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड अभिनेत्री और टेलीविजन प्रस्तोता साक्षी तंवर का जन्म अलवर राजस्थान में हुआ।

1976 दुनिया में सर्वाधिक पढ़े गये जासूसी उपन्यासकारों में से एक अगाथा क्रिस्टी का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन जाने माने भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीतकार महेश काले का जन्म पुणे में हुआ।

1979 जानी मानी भारतीय गायिका शिवानी कश्यप का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1980 फिचबर्ग, मैसाचुसेट्स, अमेरिका मेें अमेरी एमआई मैरी निकोल्सन का जन्म हुआ जो खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, गायिका, गीतकार और लेखिका हैं। उन्होंने अब तक चार स्टूडियो एल्बम जारी किए हैंरू ऑल आई हैव (2002), टच (2005), क्योंकि आई लव इट (2007), इन लव एंड वॉर (2009)। वह अपने 2005 के एकल 1 थिंग के लिए सर्वाधिक विख्यात हैं।

1985 लॉस एंजिल्स, कैलिफोर्निया, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में पेशेवर तौर पर इस्सा राय के नाम से मशहूर जो-इस्सा राय डियोप का जन्म हुआ। इस्सा लोकप्रिय, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री, लेखिका और निर्माता और परोपकारी है।

1986 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष शटल कार्यक्रम में बिल नेल्सन पेलोड विशेषज्ञ के रूप में मिशन एसटीएस-61-सी पर कोलंबिया के कैनेडी स्पेस सेंटर से अंतरिक्ष के लिए रवाना हुए।

1988 प्रसिद्ध इतालवी रेसिंग ड्राइवर पिएरो तारुफी का निधन हुआ। पिएरो तारुफी ने 1950 से 1956 तक फॉर्मूला वन में दौड़ लगाई, 1952 स्विस ग्रांड प्रिक्स जीता और 1952 वर्ल्ड ड्राइवर्स चैंपियनशिप में तीसरा स्थान हासिल किया। पिएरो तारुफी की सबसे उल्लेखनीय मोटरस्पोर्ट्स जीत 1957 मिल मिग्लिया थी, जो क्रॉस-कंट्री स्पोर्ट्स कार रेस की अंतिम दौड़ थी।

1990 रोमानिया ने कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी पर प्रतिबंध लगाया। अजरबैजान के बाकू में अर्मेनियाई नागरिक आबादी के खिलाफ सात दिवसीय सरकारी नरसंहार शुरू हुआ, जिसके दौरान हजारों अर्मेनियाई लोगों को पीटा, प्रताड़ित किया गया, हत्या कर दी गई और बहुतों को शहर छोड़ने को मजबूर किया गया।

1991 जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड माॅडल, फिल्म अभिनेत्री प्रज्ञा जायसवाल का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन 1991 में अमरीकी संसद ने कुवैत में इराक के खिलाफ सैनिक कार्रवाई की मंजूरी दी।

1993 जानी मानी खूबसूरत और बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री और माॅडल मिथिला पालकर का जन्म मुंबई में हुआ।

1997 टाइगर वुड्स ने मर्सिडीज चैंपियनशिप जीती। 1997 में इसी दिन चार्ल्स ब्रेंटन हगिन्स, कनाडाई-अमेरिकी चिकित्सक और शरीर विज्ञानी, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता का निधन हुआ।

2002 कीव, यूक्रेन में ईवा लिस का जन्म हुआ जो प्रसिद्ध जर्मन पेशेवर टेनिस खिलाड़ी हैं। लिस 17 अप्रैल 2023 को एकल में करियर की उच्चतम डब्ल्यूटीए रैंकिंग में विश्व नंबर 112 पर पहुंच गई। उसने आईटीएफ महिला सर्किट के टूर्नामेंट में तीन एकल खिताब जीते हैं। पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ ने राष्ट्र के नाम ऐतिहासिक संदेश प्रसारित किया, पाकिस्तान ने आतंकवादी संगठन लश्कर व जैश पर प्रतिबंध लागू करने की घोषणा की।

2003 भारतीय मूल की महिला लिंडा बाबूलाल त्रिनिदाद संसद की अध्यक्ष बनीं।

2004 दुनिया के सबसे बड़े समुद्री जहाज आरएमएस क्वीन मैरी 2 ने अपनी पहली यात्रा की शुरूआत की।

2005 बाॅलीवुड सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध चरित्र अभिनेता और खलनायक अमरीश पुरी का निधन हुआ। टेम्पल-1 कॉमेट (धूमकेतु) पर उतरने के उद्देश्य से डेल्टा द्वितीय रॉकेट से डीप इम्पैक्ट अंतरिक्ष यान का प्रक्षेपण अमेरिका के केप केनेवरल स्थित अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन से किया गया।

2006 भारत और चीन ने हाइड्रोकार्बन पर एक महत्त्वपूर्ण सहमति पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

2007 आमिर खान की फिल्म रंग दे बसंती बाफ्टा के लिए नामांकित हुई।

2008 कोलकाता के एक हिस्से में लगी भीषण आग से ढाई हजार से भी अधिक दुकानें जल कर खाक हुईं। इसी दिन 2008 में विश्व के सबसे बड़े फिल्म शो टोरंटो अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव की नींव रखने वाले मुर्रे दस्ती कोहल का निधन हुआ।

2009 प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार अल्लाह रक्खा यानी एआर रहमान प्रतिष्ठित गोल्डन ग्लोब अवार्ड जीतने वाले पहले भारतीय बने। इसी दिन 2009 में इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय के वैज्ञानिक डॉ. जयंत कुमार ने दुनिया का सबसे पुराना उल्का पिंड क्रेटर खोजा।

2010 ईरान की राजधानी तेहरान में परमाणु वैज्ञानिक प्रोफेसर मसूद अली मोहम्मदी की एक बम विस्फोट मौत हुई। इसी दिन भारत सरकार द्वारा नागर विमानन क्षेत्र पर आतंकी हमलो की आशंका के बीच विमान अपहरण रोधी कानून 1982 में मौत की सजा की धारा जोड़ी गई। इसी दिन कैरेबियाई देश हैती में आए भयंकर भूकंप में लाखों लोगों की मौत और राजधानी पोर्ट ओ प्रिंस का अधिकतर हिस्सा तबाह हो गया।

2012 रोमानिया की राजधानी बुखारेस्ट में जबरदस्त दो दिवसीय प्रदर्शन हुए। राष्ट्रपति ट्रैयन बसेस्कु के आर्थिक मितव्ययिता उपायों मतलब कल्याणकारी खर्चों में कटौती के खिलाफ। दो दिवसीय प्रदर्शन जारी रहे। 

2015 कैमरून में सुरक्षा बलों के साथ मुठभेड में आतंकवादी संगठन बोको हराम के 143 आतंकवादी मारे गये।

2016 तुर्की के वाणिज्यिक नगर इस्तांबुल में ब्लू मस्जिद के पास हुए बम विस्फोट में दस लोग मारे गए और 15 घायल हो गए।

2018 भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन इसरो ने 100वाँ उपग्रह प्रक्षेपित किया, एक साथ भेजे 31 सैटेलाइट्स।

2020 फिलीपींस में ताल ज्वालामुखी विस्फोट में 39 लोगों की मौत हो गई और काफी क्षेत्र तबाह हुआ। इसी दिन भारतीय टीम के तेज गेंदबाज जसप्रीत बुमराह को प्रतिष्ठित पॉली उमरीगर अवॉर्ड से सम्मानित किया गया। इसी दिन रक्षा सचिव अजय कुमार ने कोलकाता में दो भारतीय तटरक्षक जहाजों अर्थात् एनी बेसेंट और अमृत कौर को नियुक्त किया। 2020 में इसी दिन सर रोजर स्क्रूटन, अंग्रेजी दार्शनिक और लेखक का निधन हुआ।

2022 रॉनी स्पेक्टर, प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी गायक का निधन हुआ।

2023 लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी गायिका एवं गीत लेखिका लिसा मैरी प्रेस्ली का निधन हुआ।

2023 भारत के प्रसिद्ध समाजवादी राजनीतिज्ञ, 30वें नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री और 29वें श्रम मंत्री एवं जनता दल यूनाइटेड के अध्यक्ष रहे शरद यादव का गुड़गांव के एक अस्पताल में निधन हुआ।

World History of 12 January: Information about important events and birth and death days of famous people in India and the world in 1600 years

475 Byzantine Emperor Zeno had to flee Constantinople for his life, as his commander Basiliscus took control of the empire and intended to kill Zeno.

690 Benedict Biscop (Biscop Bading) of St Peter's, Wearmouth (Sunderland), died. He was a famous Anglo-Saxon abbot and theologian. He founded the famous library of Monkwearmouth-Jarrow Priory. He was declared a saint posthumously.

1528 Gustav I of Sweden is officially crowned King of Sweden. He had been ruling since his election in June 1523.

1554 Bayinnaung, who founded the Burmese Taungoo Dynasty, the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia, is crowned emperor.

1576 Petrus Schrijver (Peter Schrijver) was born in Haarlem, Netherlands, a famous Dutch historian and writer.

1598 Jijabai, the mother of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhonsle, known as Rajmata, was born in Buldhana city of Maharashtra.

1708 Chhatrapati Shahu ji was crowned the Maratha ruler.

1757 Britain captured the Bandel province of West Bengal from Portugal.

1808 The former Scottish learned society holds an organizational meeting in Edinburgh to form the Wernerian Natural History Society. On this day in 1808, John Rennie's plan to protect St Mary's Church, Reculver, founded in 669, from coastal erosion was approved for demolition, despite the church being an excellent example of Anglo-Saxon architecture and sculpture.

1863 Narendra Nath Dutt i.e. Swami Vivekananda was born in Calcutta. As he grew up, he inclined towards spirituality. In his youth, he came in contact with many saints and spiritualists and in 1881, Vivekananda met Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and became his disciple. Influenced by his guru Ramakrishna, he took up sannyasa at the age of 25. After taking sannyasa, his name was Swami Vivekananda. The last days of Ramakrishna Paramhansa were spent in great suffering in 1886. He was a victim of throat cancer. He passed away. Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Mission in Calcutta in 1897. A year later, he established the Ramakrishna Math at Belur on the banks of the river Ganges. Vivekananda died in Belur Math on 4 July 1902 at the young age of just 39. He was a diabetes patient. Vivekananda believed that youth could change the direction of the society. He believed that youth could change the destiny of India through their hard work, dedication and spiritual strength. His message to the youth was, I want to have muscles of iron and nerves of steel, with the same mind that makes a thunderbolt. Through such messages he tried to instill basic values in the youth. There were many evils in Hindu religion at that time. There was a huge difference and inconsistency between words and actions. In the caste system of Hindu religion, Vivekananda belonged to the fourth caste, he belonged to the Kayastha caste, who was suffering from the atrocities of the so-called upper castes. Vivekananda has widely discussed and opposed it in his statements but the flag bearers of Hindu religion never discuss it. He is proud of the fact that he gave international recognition to Hinduism through the Parliament of Religions of Chicago. Whereas the so-called contractors of Hinduism did not allow Vivekananda to go to the Parliament of Religions in Chicago as a representative of Hinduism.

1869 Famous freedom fighter, social worker and educationist Bharat Ratna Bhagwan Das was born in Varanasi.

1876 Famous American storyteller and writer Jack London was born in California, America.

1984 The Government of India announced to celebrate Swami Vivekananda's birthday (12 January) as National Youth Day and since 1985, every year Vivekananda's birth anniversary is celebrated as National Youth Day.

1876 American storyteller John Griffith Chaney, known worldwide as Jack London, was born in San Francisco, California. He was an influential American novelist, journalist and human rights activist. and became one of the leading American writers of commercial fiction and American magazines and an international celebrity. London acquired huge wealth from writing. He was also an innovator in the genre that later became known as science fiction. He has depicted the anti-people tactics, cruelties, exploitation and oppression of religion, government and capitalists in his fiction. You should read his novel Iron Heel.

1889 Mirza Bashir Uddin Mohammad Ahmed, the religious leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, was born.

1895 Yelapragada Subbarao, India's leading medical expert, biochemist, who made important contributions in the treatment of cancer, was born in Bhimavaram. On the same day the National Trust for Historic Interest or Natural Beauty was established in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

1899 Famous Indian mathematician Badrinath Prasad was born in Gohna village of Muhammadabad in Azamgarh district.

1901 Famous freedom fighter Umashankar Dixit was born in Unnao city of Uttar Pradesh.

1908 The first long-distance wireless message is sent from the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

1911 The University of the Philippines College of Law is formally established. Three future presidents of the Philippines took admission as its first students.

1917 Famous Indian spiritualist Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was born in Jabalpur city.

1918 Famous Hindi film producer-director, singer and musician C. Ramchandra i.e. Ramchandra Narhar Chitalkar was born in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

1921 Well-known Indian industrialist and businessman Basant Kumar Birla was born in Kolkata.

1931 Famous Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz was born in Kohat, Pakistan.

1934 Surya Sen, the great revolutionary of India's freedom struggle, was hanged in Chittagong. He founded the Indian Republican Army and successfully led the Chittagong rebellion.

1936 Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, leader of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, was born in Bijbehara.

1940 Veerappa Moily, a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and Chief Minister of Karnataka, was born.

1941 Pyare Lal Sharma, one of the Indian revolutionaries, passed away.

1948 Mahatma Gandhi gave his last speech and decided to go on a fast against communal violence. In his last speech given on the evening of 12 January, Gandhiji had said that it is better to embrace death than to see destruction in communal riots. After the partition of the country in 1947, communal riots started happening across the country. Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs became thirsty for each other's blood. These riots shocked Gandhiji. To stop the riots in the country, he decided to go on a fast from January 13. After 5 days, Gandhiji's condition was accepted and every effort was made to bring peace in the country. It is believed that Gandhiji's last speech became the reason for his assassination. On January 30, 1948, when Gandhiji was going to offer prayers at Birla House, Nathuram Godse, a disciple of RSS-influenced Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, fired three bullets at him.

1950 The name of United Province was changed to 'Uttar Pradesh'.

1958 Arun Govil was born in Meerut. He was an actor of Doordarshan and Hindi Bollywood films. He played the role of Ram in the Doordarshan serial Ramayana.

1964 Former India bowler Bapu Nadkarni bowled 21 consecutive maiden overs in the first Test with England in Madras. This was a world record in the history of six-ball overs. On this day in 1964, rebels from Zanzibar, a part of the Muslim country Tanzania, started a revolution and declared the Republic of Zanzibar. On this day in 1964, well-known Indian National Congress politician Ajay Maken was born in Delhi. On the same day, Bijayant Panda, a well-known politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Orissa and a member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, was born in Cuttack.

He is the founder, executive chairman, and former chairman and CEO of Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce and cloud computing company. He is the third richest person in the world with a net worth of approximately US$170 billion as of November 2023. According to both the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes, he was the richest from 2017 to 2021. When Bezos divorced his wife MacKenzie, it became the world's most expensive divorce in which 25 billion dollars was paid.

1972 Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and currently Congress General Secretary, was born in Delhi.

1988 Piero Taruffi, famous Italian racing driver, passes away. Piero Taruffi raced in Formula One from 1950 to 1956, winning the 1952 Swiss Grand Prix and finishing third in the 1952 World Drivers' Championship. Piero Taruffi's most notable motorsports victory was the 1957 Mille Miglia, the final running of the cross-country sports car race.

2023 Popular American singer and song writer Lisa Marie Presley passed away.

2023 Sharad Yadav, India's famous socialist politician, 30th Civil Aviation Minister and 29th Labor Minister and President of Janata Dal United, died in a hospital in Gurgaon.
