1913 इटली के विश्व विख्यात चित्रकार लियोनार्दो द विंची की विश्व चर्चित चित्र कृति मोनालिसा की पेंटिंग चोरी हो गई थी 21 अगस्त 1911 को। 11 दिसंबर 1913 को पुलिस ने पेंटिंग बरामद कर ली। म्यूजियम में काम करने वाले विंसेंजो पेंटिंग के लिए कांच का फ्रेम बना रहा था। मौका पाकर उसने पेंटिंग चुरा ली। विंसेंजो को एक साल 15 दिन की सजा सुनाई गई, लेकिन 7 महीने बाद ही उसे रिहा कर दिया गया।

1936 बर्लिन में आयोजित होने वाले ओलंपिक खेलों को अमेरिकी यहूदी कांग्रेस के विरोध का सामना करना पड़ा क्योंकि नाजी जर्मनी अन्य एथलीटों की तुलना में यहूदी एथलीटों को समानता प्रदान नहीं कर रहा था।

1915 बाला साहब देवरस नाम से प्रसिद्ध मधुकर दत्तात्रेय देवरस राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के तृतीय सरसंघचालक का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ।

1922 ट्रेजेडी किंग और अभिनय सम्राट कहे गये मशहूर बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता मोहम्मद यूसुफ खान यानी दिलीप कुमार का जन्म किस्सा बाजार, पेशावर, पाकिस्तान में हुआ।

1937 यूरोपीय देश इटली ने मित्र राष्ट्र संघ का परित्याग किया।

1938 उत्तर प्रदेश के प्रसिद्ध कानून विशेषज्ञ और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता जगत नारायण मुल्ला का निधन हुआ। जज रहते हुए उन्होंने ही कहा था, पुलिस संगठित गुंडों का गिरोह है।

1941 जर्मनी और इटली ने अमेरिका के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की। पहले इटली के शासक बेनिटो मुसोलिनी और फिर जर्मनी के तानाशाह एडोल्फ हिटलर ने ये घोषणा की।

1968 जुविसी-सुर-ऑर्गे, फ्रांस में इमैनुएल मैरी चार्पेंटियर का जन्म हुआ जो विख्यात सूक्ष्म जीव विज्ञानी, आनुवंशिकीविद, जैव रसायन विज्ञानी और फ्रांसीसी प्रोफेसर और शोधकर्ता हैं। बर्लिन में मैक्स प्लैंक इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर इन्फेक्शन बायोलॉजी में निदेशक रही हैं। 2018 में उन्होंने एक स्वतंत्र शोध संस्थान, मैक्स प्लैंक यूनिट फॉर द साइंस ऑफ पैथोजेन्स की स्थापना की। कैलिफोर्निया विश्वविद्यालय, बर्कले के चार्पेंटियर और अमेरिकी बायोकेमिस्ट जेनिफर डौडना को जीनोम संपादन हेतु विधि के विकास के लिए (सीआरआईएसपीआर के माध्यम से) रसायन विज्ञान में नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था। यह पहला विज्ञान नोबेल पुरस्कार था जो केवल दो महिलाओं को मिला।

1970 पौराणिक विषयों के प्रमुख लेखक, प्रबोधक और प्रबंधनकर्ता देवदत्त पट्टनायक का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1980 गुजरात के चर्चित दलित, कांग्रेस नेता, वडगाम से विधायक, पूर्व पत्रकार, अधिवक्ता जिग्नेश मेवानी का अहमदाबाद में जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन तमिल सिनेमा के जाने माने फिल्म अभिनेता तथा निर्माता आर्या का जन्म हुआ।

1981 जाने माने टेलीविजन अभिनेता और माॅडल गौरव खन्ना का जन्म कानपुर में हुआ।

1983 जनरल हुसैन मोहम्मद इरशाद ने खुद को बांग्लादेश का राष्ट्रपति घोषित किया।

1994 रूस के राष्ट्रपति बोरिस येल्तसिन ने चेचेन्या विद्रोहियों के इलाके में सेना भेज कर हमला करवाया।

1998 प्रसिद्ध कवि एवं गीतकार प्रदीप का निधन हुआ।

2010 बोलीविया सरकार ने सेवानिवृत्ति की आयु 65 से घटाकर 58 कर दी जबकि तमाम देशों में सेवानिवृत्ति की आयु बढ़ा दी गई है। भारत में ही पहले सरकारी कर्मचारी 50 साल की आयु में रिटायर होते थे बाद में धीरे-धीरे इसे बढ़ा कर 60 और कुछ मामलों में 65 तक कर दी गई है।

2012 भारत रत्न से सम्मानित प्रसिद्ध सितार वादक पंडित रविशंकर का निधन हुआ।

2014 अंतरराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस की स्वीकृति 11 दिसंबर को संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने दी।

2017 न्यूयॉर्क सिटी सबवे टाइम्स स्क्वायर-42वें स्ट्रीट/पोर्ट अथॉरिटी बस टर्मिनल में पाइप बम आंशिक रूप से जिसमें अपराधी समेत चार लोग घायल हुए।

2019 पापुआ न्यू गिनी के स्वायत्तशासी प्रांत बोगेनविलिया में स्वतंत्रता जनमत संग्रह के परिणाम घोषित किए गए। 98 प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदाताओं ने बोगेनविले की स्वतंत्रता के लिए मतदान किया। इसी दिन 2019 राज्यसभा में नागरिकता संशोधन विधेयक 2019 के पक्ष में 125 और खिलाफ में 99 वोट पड़े थे। यह बिल था नागरिकता संशोधन विधेयक 2019 यानी सिटिजन अमेंडमेंट एक्ट सीएए। अगले ही दिन 12 दिसंबर 2019 को इसे राष्ट्रपति की मंजूरी मिल गई। इसका देशभर में भारी विरोध हुआ और लगातार हो रहा है।

2020 जेम्स रॉबर्ट फ्लिन का निधन हुआ। वे अमेरिकी मूल के न्यूजीलैंडवासी नैतिक दार्शनिक एवं खुफिया शोधकर्ता थे। शिकागो विश्वविद्यालय में शिक्षित, फ्लिन 1963 में डुनेडिन चले गए, जहाँ उन्होंने ओटागो विश्वविद्यालय में राजनीतिक अध्ययन पढ़ाया। उन्हें दुनिया भर में आईक्यू स्कोर में साल-दर-साल निरंतर वृद्धि के बारे में उनके प्रकाशनों के लिए जाना जाता था, जिसे फ्लिन प्रभाव कहते हैं। अपने शैक्षणिक कार्यों के अलावा, उन्होंने जीवन भर सामाजिक लोकतांत्रिक राजनीति का समर्थन किया।

2021 ऐनी राइस का निधन हुआ। वे प्रसिद्ध गॉथिक कथा, कामुक साहित्य और ईसाई साहित्य की प्रमुख अमेरिकी लेखिका थीं। वह अपने उपन्यासों की श्रृंखला द वैम्पायर क्रॉनिकल्स के लिए सबसे ज्यादा जानी जाती थीं। पहली पुस्तक एक फिल्म रूपांतरण का विषय बन गई, इसका शीर्षक था, पिशाच के साथ साक्षात्कार!

2004 Famous Carnatic singer and actress MS Subbulakshmi passed away.

2007 Rail service started again between North and South Korea after 50 years.

2010 The Bolivian government lowered the retirement age from 65 to 58, while the retirement age in many countries has been raised. In India itself, earlier government employees used to retire at the age of 50, later it was gradually increased to 60 and in some cases up to 65.

2012 Famous sitar player Pandit Ravi Shankar, awarded Bharat Ratna, passed away.

2014 International Yoga Day was approved by the United Nations on 11 December.

2017 A pipe bomb detonates in the New York City Subway Times Square–42nd Street/Port Authority Bus Terminal, injuring four people, including the perpetrator.

2019 The results of the independence referendum in Bougainvillea, the autonomous province of Papua New Guinea, are announced. Over 98 percent of voters voted for Bougainville's independence. On the same day in Rajya Sabha in 2019, 125 votes were cast in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 and 99 against it. This bill was Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 i.e. Citizen Amendment Act CAA. The very next day on 12 December 2019, it got the approval of the President. There was huge protest against this across the country and it continues to happen.

2020 James Robert Flynn dies. He was an American-born New Zealand moral philosopher and intelligence researcher. Educated at the University of Chicago, Flynn moved to Dunedin in 1963, where he taught political studies at the University of Otago. He was known for his publications about the sustained year-to-year increase in IQ scores around the world, called the Flynn effect. Apart from his academic work, he supported social democratic politics throughout his life.

2021 Anne Rice passes away. She was a prominent American author of Gothic fiction, erotic literature, and Christian literature. She was best known for her series of novels, The Vampire Chronicles. The first book became the subject of a film adaptation, titled Interview with the Vampire!
