23 ईस्वी में 4 अक्टूबर को विद्रोही किसानों ने चीन की राजधानी चांगान पर कब्जा किया।

744 उमय्यद खलीफा यजीद इब्न अल-वालिद इब्न अब्द अल-मालिक यानी याजीद तृतीय का दमिश्क, सीरिया में इंतकाल हुआ। याजीद ने 15 अप्रैल से 3 अक्टूबर 744 ईस्वी तक छह महीने तक शासन किया और शासन के दौरान मृत्यु हो गयी थी। यजीद एक फारसी राजकुमारी का पुत्र था जो खलीफा अल-वालिद प्रथम के शासन में सेवारत थी।

1209 पोप इनोसेंट तृतीय ने ओटो चतुर्थ को रोमन साम्राज्य के सम्राट का ताज पहनाया।

1160 फ्रांस की एलिस, काउंटेस ऑफ वेक्सिन अंग्रेजी में एलिस के नाम से सुपरिचित फ्रांसीसी राजकुमारी का जन्म हुआ जो फ्रांस के राजा लुई सातवें और उनकी दूसरी पत्नी, कॉन्स्टेंस ऑफ कैस्टिले की बेटी थी। इसी दिन 1160 कॉन्स्टेंस ऑफ कैस्टिले का निधन हुआ। यह राजा लुई सातवें की दूसरी पत्नी के रूप में फ्रांस की रानी थीं।

1227 लाइबेरिया क्षेत्र के मुस्लिम बहुल इलाकों के खलीफा अल-आदिल की हत्या की गई।

1302 बीजेंटाइन साम्राज्य तथा वेनिस गणराज्य के बीच शांति समझौता हुआ। अब बीजेंटाइन तुर्की है और वेनिस इटली में है।

1535 माइल्स कवरडेल द्वारा संकलित कवरडेल बाइबिल छपी। यह बाइबिल का पहला पूर्ण आधुनिक अंग्रेजी अनुवाद था। आधिकारिक रूप से 1537 में प्रकाशित बाद के संस्करण (फोलियो और क्वार्टो) इंग्लैंड में छपी पहली संपूर्ण बाइबिल थे। 1537 फोलियो संस्करण के पास शाही लाइसेंस था और इसलिए यह अंग्रेजी में पहला आधिकारिक रूप से स्वीकृत बाइबिल अनुवाद था। कवरडेल बाइबिल के स्रोत को 1540 की महान बाइबिल और 1662 में शुरू हुई एंग्लिकन बुक ऑफ कॉमन प्रेयर और 1979 तक यू.एस. एपिस्कोपल चर्च बुक ऑफ कॉमन प्रेयर के सभी संस्करणों में शामिल किया गया था।

1582 आज तारीख के लिए हम जिस कैलेंडर को देखते हैं उसे ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर कहते हैं। आज ज्यादातर देशों में ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर ही प्रचलित है। अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर ही चलता है, बेशक सभी देशों के अपने धार्मिक कैलेंडर भी हैं, लेकिन कुल मिलाकर काम ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर से ही चलता है। इटली, पोलैंड, पुर्तगाल और स्पेन ने पोप ग्रेगरी के आदेश पर ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर अपनाया गया था। इसे इक्विनॉक्स और सॉलस्टाइसेस जैसी घटनाओं को एडजस्ट करने के लिए ही बनाया था। यह भी ध्यान रखा कि नॉदर्न हेमिस्फीयर के स्प्रिंग इक्विनॉक्स के आसपास ही ईस्टर को सेलिब्रेट किया जा सके। कई दिन छोड़ दिए थे। 4 अक्टूबर के बाद एकदम से 15 अक्टूबर आ गया था।

1779 जेम्स विल्सन और अन्य लोगों के खिलाफ फिलाडेल्फिया में द फोर्ट विल्सन दंगे हुए।

1795 नेपोलियन ने राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन का आह्वान करने वालों का दमन किया।

1824 अमेरिकी गुलामी से आजाद होने के बाद मैक्सिको गणतांत्रिक देश बना।

1830 नीदरलैंड से अलग होकर बेल्जियम नया देश बना।

1832 राजा लुडविग प्रथम का दूसरा पुत्र बावेरिया का राजकुमार ओटो यूरोप की प्रमुख शक्तियों द्वारा ओथॉन चुना गया, जो यूनानी राष्ट्र के स्वतंत्रता के पुनर्मूल्यांकन के बाद ग्रीस का पहला राजा था।

1857 मांडवी, गुजरात में प्रख्यात स्वतंत्रता सेनानी एवं लेखक श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा का जन्म हुआ। श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा पहले भारतीय थे, जिन्हें ऑक्सफोर्ड से एमए और बार-ऐट-ला की उपाधियाँ मिलीं।

1880 अमेरिका के लॉस एंजिल्स में कैलिफोर्निया विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना की गयी।

1884 उत्तर प्रदेश के बस्ती में प्रमुख हिंदी साहित्यकार रामचंद्र शुक्ल का जन्म हुआ। आचार्य रामचंद्र शुक्ल हिंदी आलोचक, कहानीकार, निबंधकार, इतिहासकार, कोशकार, अनुवादक, कथाकार और कवि थे। उनके द्वारा लिखी गई सर्वाधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण पुस्तक है हिंदी साहित्य का इतिहास जिसके द्वारा आज भी काल निर्धारण एवं पाठ्यक्रम निर्माण में सहायता ली जाती है।

1904 तमिलनाडु के प्रसिद्ध स्वतंत्रता सेनानी तिरुप्पुर कुमारन का जन्म हुआ।

1918 अमेरिका के न्यूजर्सी स्थित सेवरविले में एक बारूद के संयंत्र में विस्फोट होने से 100 से अधिक लोगों की मौत, सैकड़ों घायल और 300 से अधिक भवनों को भारी नुकसान पहुंचा।

1927 भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा में भारत की दूसरी महिला अधिकारी तथा मध्य प्रदेश की भूतपूर्व राज्यपाल सरला ग्रेवाल का जन्म हुआ.

1931 हिंदी और बंगला की मशहूर पार्श्व गायिका संध्या मुखोपाध्याय का जन्म हुआ।

1937 जैकलीन जिल कोलिंस ओबीई का जन्म लंदन, इंग्लैंड में हुआ। जैकी कोलिंस के नाम से विश्व विख्यात अंग्रेजी रोमांस उपन्यासकार और अभिनेत्री जैकी कोलिंस 1985 में लॉस एंजिल्स, अमेरिका चली गईं और अपना अधिकांश जीवन वहीं बिताया। जैकी कोलिंस ने 32 उपन्यास लिखे, जिनमें से सभी न्यूयॉर्क टाइम्स की बेस्टसेलर सूची में शामिल हुए। जैकी कोलिंस की किताबों की 500 मिलियन से अधिक प्रतियां बिक चुकी हैं और उनका 40 भाषाओं में अनुवाद किया गया है।

1938 कपड़ों के मशहूर ब्रांड रेमंड्स के संस्थापक, चर्चित उद्योगपति - कारोबारी विजयपत सिंहानिया का जन्म कानपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1943 अमेरिका ने सोलोमन द्वीप पर कब्जा किया।

1952 बाॅलीवुड के 1970 और 1980 के दशक के हिंदी एवं मराठी फिल्मों के प्रसिद्ध गीत गायक और अभिनेता शैलेंद्र सिंह का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1957 सोवियत संघ ने दुनिया का पहला कृत्रिम उपग्रह अंतरिक्ष में स्थापित किया और इसका नाम स्पुतनिक-1 रखा। रूसी भाषा में यात्री को स्पुतनिक कहा जाता है। मानव इतिहास के पहले 83.5 किलोग्राम वजनी सैटेलाइट ने 92 दिन में 1400 बार पृथ्वी का चक्कर लगाया।

1963 क्यूबा और हैती में चक्रवाती तूफान फ्लोरा से छह हजार लोगों की मौत हुई।

1966 लेसोथो देश ने ब्रिटेन से अपनी स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की और 4 अक्टूबर का दिन इस देश में राष्ट्रीय दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।

1974 भारत ने दक्षिण अफ्रिका की सरकार की रंगभेद नीति का विरोध करते हुए वहाँ जाकर डेविस कप में भाग लेने से इनकार कर दिया

1976 ब्रिटेन में ब्रांड इंटरसिटी 125 हाई स्पीड ट्रेन पेश की गई

1977 भारतीय विदेश मंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा की बैठक को हिंदी में संबोधित किया। हिंदी में दिया गया यह पहला भाषण था।

1978 नई दिल्ली में जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री और माॅडल सोहा अली खान का जन्म हुआ। उनके पिता मंसूर अली खान पटौदी मशहूर क्रिकेटर थे। उनकी माँ शर्मीला टैगोर, मशहूर हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री हैं। उनके एक भाई मशहूर अभिनेता सैफ अली खान और बहन प्रसिद्ध आभूषण डिजाइनर सबा अली खान हैं। इसी दिन मशहूर टेलीविजन अभिनेता रोहित बख्शी का जन्म हुआ।

1980 पाओली डैम का जन्म पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ। उनके पिता का नाम अमोल डैम और माँ नाम पापिया डैम है। पाओली मुख्यतः बांग्ला अभिनेत्री हैं। इसी दिन 1980 बहुचर्चित, बहुविवादित फिल्म अभिनेत्री और माॅडल श्वेता तिवारी का जन्म इलाहाबाद उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ। उनके पिता का नाम अशोक और माँ का निर्मला है। श्वेता पिछले कुछ वर्षों से अलग-अलग वजहों से चर्चा में रही हैं। उनकी एक परेशानी अपने पति और बेटे रेयांश को लेकर भी है। बाॅम्बे हाई कोर्ट ने उनके बेटे की कस्टडी श्वेता को ही सौंपी है। पति अभिनव कोहली ने उनसे अलग होकर बेटे को हासिल करने के लिए मुकदमा कर रखा था।

1984 टिम मैकार्टनी और ग्रेग मोर्टिमर माउंट एवरेस्ट के शिखर पर पहुंचने वाले पहले ऑस्ट्रेलियाई बने।

1987 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, प्रसिद्ध टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल स्नेहा वाघ का जन्म कल्याण, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1992 कनाडा की प्रसिद्ध लेखिका, चित्रकार, कवियित्री और फोटोग्राफर रूपी कौर का जन्म होशियारपुर, पंजाब में हुआ।

1993 मोगादिशू की लड़ाई में 18 अमेरिकी विशेष सैनिकों दो संयुक्त राष्ट्र शांति सैनिकों और कम से कम 600 सोमालिया मिलिशिया लड़ाके और नागरिक लड़ाई में मारे गये।

1996 पाकिस्तानी क्रिकेटर शाहिद अफरीदी ने श्रीलंका के खिलाफ वनडे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट मैच में 37 गेंदों में शतक बनाकर इतिहास रचा था। उनका यह रिकॉर्ड 19 साल तक कायम रहा। एबी डिविलियर्स ने 18 जनवरी 2015 को केवल 31 गेंदों पर शतक लगाकर उनका ये रिकॉर्ड अपने नाम किया।

1997 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर ऋषभ पंत का जन्म रुड़की (हरिद्वार) उत्तराखंड में हुआ।

2000 4 से 10 अक्टूबर के बीच का पहली बार विश्व अंतरिक्ष सप्ताह का आयोजन किया गया। 6 दिसंबर 1999 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने इसे मंजूरी दी। विश्व अंतरिक्ष सप्ताह को आधिकारिक तौर पर विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी और मानव स्थिति की बेहतरी में उनके योगदान का एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय उत्सव के रूप में परिभाषित किया गया है। विश्व अंतरिक्ष सप्ताह का आयोजन हर साल विश्व अंतरिक्ष सप्ताह संघ (डब्ल्यूएसडब्ल्यूए) और संयुक्त राष्ट्र (यूएन) के समन्वय से किया जाता है।

2001 साइबेरिया एयरलाइंस की उड़ान 1812 एक यूक्रेनी मिसाइल की चपेट में आने से दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई। अठहत्तर लोग मारे गये।

2003 इजराइल में मैक्सिम रेस्तरां आत्मघाती बम विस्फोट में यहूदी और अरब दोनों कुल मिलाकर इक्कीस इजराइली मारे गए।

2006 कंप्यूटर इंजीनियर और जूलियन असांजे ने वेबसाइट विकिलीक्स की स्थापना की। इसने अमेरिका, ब्रिटेन के इराक और अन्य देशों में युद्ध अपराधों के दस्तावेज सार्वजनिक किये।

2014 अमेरिका में इबोला वायरस से बीमार पहला व्यक्ति अस्पताल में भर्ती किया गया। नाम था - थॉमस एरिक डंकन।

2015 डेव पाइक, अमेरिकी वाइब्राफोन वादक और गीतकार, एडिडा नागेश्वर राव, भारतीय निर्देशक और निर्माता एवं नील वॉक, अमेरिकी बास्केटबॉल खिलाड़ी का निधन हुआ।

2017 संयुक्त नाइजीरियाई एवं अमेरिकी विशेष बलों पर इस्लामिक स्टेट के आतंकवादियों ने टोंगो टोंगो गांव के बाहर घात लगाकर हमला किया।

2020 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अभिनेता क्लार्क मिडलटन एवं फ्रांसीसी-जापानी फैशन डिजायनर केन्जो तकादा का निधन हुआ।

2021 बुब्बा वालेस स्टॉक कार ऑटो रेसिंग के लिए नेशनल एसोसिएशन, एलएलसी एक बड़ी रेस जीतने वाले पहले अफ्रीकी-अमेरिकी ड्राइवर बने।

2021 चिकित्सा का नोबेल पुरस्कार अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिकों डेविड जूलियस और आर्डम पातापुतियन को दिए जाने की घोषणा की गयी। उन्हें तापमान और स्पर्श के लिए रिसेप्टर की खोज के लिए यह सम्मान दिया गया है। नोबेल समिति के महासचिव थॉमस पर्लमैन ने 4 अक्टूबर को स्टॉकहोम में इन विजेताओं के नामों की घोषणा की। नोबेल समिति के पैट्रिक अर्नफोर्स ने कहा कि जूलियस ने तंत्रिका सेंसर की पहचान करने के लिए मिर्च के घटक कैप्साइसिन का इस्तेमाल किया। तंत्रिका सेंसर से त्वचा पर तापमान की प्रतिक्रिया होती है।  पैट्रिक ने बताया कि आर्डम पातापुतियन ने कोशिकाओं में अलग दबाव-संवेदनशील सेंसर का पता लगाया। पर्लमैन ने कहा, इससे वास्तव में प्रकृति के रहस्यों में से एक का खुलासा होता है... यह वास्तव में ऐसा कुछ है जो हमारे अस्तित्व के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है। इसलिए यह एक बहुत ही अहम और गहन खोज है।

2022 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकन फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, गायिका, संगीतज्ञ लोरेटा लिन का निधन हुआ। वह अमेरिकी देशी संगीत गायिका और गीतकार थीं। छह दशकों के करियर में, लिन ने कई गोल्ड एल्बम जारी किए और उन्हें अनेक सम्मान और पुरस्कार मिले। इसी दिन एलेन एस्पेक्ट, जॉन एफ. क्लॉसर और एंटोन जिलिंगर को संयुक्त रूप से भौतिकी में नोबेल पुरस्कार दिए जाने की घोषणा की गई।

4 अक्टूबर को दुनिया भर में विश्व पशु दिवस मनाया जाता है। इसके तहत पशु संरक्षण, संबर्धन और उनके कल्याण के बारे में विचार-विमर्श, सहयोग का आदान-प्रदान आदि के आयोजन होते हैं। यह 1929 से अलग-अलग देशों में आयोजित किया जाता रहा है। लेकिन 2003 में पशु दिवस के आयोजन का दायित्व ब्रिटेन की पशु कल्याण चैरिटी, नेचरवॉच फाउंडेशन को मिला जिसके बाद वह दुनिया भर में इस आयोजन के लिए समन्वय करती है।

744 Umayyad Caliph Yazid ibn al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik i.e. Yazid III died in Damascus, Syria. Yazid ruled for six months from 15 April to 3 October 744 AD and died during his reign. Yazid was the son of a Persian princess serving under the reign of Caliph al-Walid I.

1209 Pope Innocent III crowns Otto IV as Emperor of the Roman Empire.

1160 Alice of France, Countess of Vexin, known as Alice in English, was born a French princess, daughter of King Louis VII of France and his second wife, Constance of Castile. On this day in 1160 Constance of Castile died. She was the queen of France as the second wife of King Louis VII.

1227 Caliph al-Adil of the Muslim-dominated areas of Liberia was assassinated.

1302 Peace treaty between the Byzantine Empire and the Republic of Venice. Now Byzantine is Türkiye and Venice is in Italy.

1535 The Coverdale Bible, compiled by Miles Coverdale, is printed. It was the first complete modern English translation of the Bible. The later editions (folio and quarto), officially published in 1537, were the first complete Bibles printed in England. The 1537 Folio edition had a royal license and was therefore the first officially approved Bible translation into English. The sources for the Coverdale Bible are considered to be the Great Bible of 1540 and the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, begun in 1662 and published in the U.S. until 1979. Was included in all editions of the Episcopal Church Book of Common Prayer.

The calendar we look at today for the date 1582 is called the Gregorian calendar. Today, the Gregorian calendar is prevalent in most countries. The Gregorian calendar was adopted by Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain on the orders of Pope Gregory. It was built to accommodate events like equinoxes and solstices. 1857 Famous freedom fighter and writer Shyamji Krishna Verma was born in Mandvi, Gujarat. Shyamji Krishna Varma was the first Indian to receive the degrees of MA and Bar-at-Law from Oxford.

1880 University of California was established in Los Angeles, America.

1884 Prominent Hindi litterateur Ramchandra Shukla was born in Basti, Uttar Pradesh. Acharya Ramchandra Shukla was a Hindi critic, storyteller, essayist, historian, lexicographer, translator, storyteller and poet. The most important book written by him is History of Hindi Literature, which is still used to help in determining the period and making curriculum.

1904 Tiruppur Kumaran, the famous freedom fighter of Tamil Nadu, was born.

1918 An explosion at a gunpowder plant in Sevierville, New Jersey, USA, killed more than 100 people, injured hundreds and caused heavy damage to more than 300 buildings.

World Animal Day is celebrated across the world on 4 October. Under this, discussions, exchange of cooperation etc. are organized regarding animal protection, promotion and their welfare.
