869 कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल के कुलीन वर्ग की चौथी परिषद पितृसत्ता फोटिओस प्रथम को पदच्युत करने के लिए बुलाई गई।

1112 गेम्ब्लौक्स के सिगेबर्ट मध्ययुगीन लेखक, बेल्जियम में सार्वभौमिक इतिहास के साम्राज्य-समर्थक इतिहासकार, ग्रेगरी सप्तम और पास्कल द्वितीय की व्यापक पोपसी के विरोधी, गेम्ब्लौक्स के बेनिडिक्टिन मठ के भिक्षु का निधन हुआ।

1143 जमोरा की संधि पर हस्ताक्षर के साथ, लियोन और कैस्टिले के राजा अल्फोंसो सातवें ने पुर्तगाल को एक राज्य के रूप में मान्यता दी।

1450 बवेरिया के ड्यूक लुई ने यहूदियों को अपने अधिकार क्षेत्र से बाहर निकाला।

1524 भारतीय इतिहास की प्रसिद्ध वीरांगना, गोंडवाना की रानी हुईं दुर्गावती का जन्म कलिंज, मध्य प्रदेश में हुआ। 

1676 नकद मुद्रा के रूप में मुगल शहंशाह औरंगजेब ने सिक्के चलवा दिए थे। लेकिन ब्रिटिश राज में सरकार ने ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी को दो तरह के सिक्के ढालने की इजाजत 5 अक्टूबर 1676 को दी गई। बंबई में ढाली गई इस मुद्रा को रुपया और पैसा कहा गया।

1750 वेनिस, इटली में विख्यात नाटककार कार्लो गोल्डोनि के प्रसिद्ध आईल टेट्रो कॉमिको नाटक का प्रथम मंचन हुआ।

1789 फ्रांस की क्रांति के दौरान पेरिस की महिलाओं ने वर्साय किले तक मार्च किया और किला ध्वस्त कर दिया। डबल रोटी महंगी हो गई थी, जनता जब राजमहल के समक्ष रोटी के अपनी पहुंच से बाहर होने की बात कहते हुए शासन से महंगाई कम करने और रोजगार की मांग कर रही थी तब महारानी मैरी अंतुआनेत ने महल के झरोखे से नीचे भीड़ को संबोधित कर कहा कि रोटी नहीं मिल रही है तो केक खाइये। इससे जनता भड़क गई और फिर फ्रांस में क्रांति हुई। जिसमें राजा और रानी सहित तमाम लोग मारे गये। 

1793 फ्रांसीसी क्रांति के दौरान फ्रांस में ईसाई धर्म को देश निकाला दिया गया।

1796 स्पेन ने इंग्लैंड के विरुद्ध युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1805 भारत में ब्रिटिश राज के दूसरे गवर्नर जनरल व कमांडर इन चीफ लार्ड कार्नवालिस का गाजीपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश में निधन हुआ।

1813 थेम्स की लड़ाई (जो अब कनाडा का ओंटारियो है) में अमेरिका के सैनिकों ने ब्रिटिश सेना को पराजित किया। ब्रिटिश सेना में लगभग 1000 भारतीय सैनिक थे।

1823 स्वास्थ्य-चिकित्सा विषयक शोधों, खोजों इत्यादि की जानकारी देने वाली दुनिया की प्रतिष्ठित पत्रिका द लान्सेट मेडिकल जर्नल का थॉमस वक्ले ने प्रकाशन प्रारंभ किया। इसी दिन तमिलनाडु के संत और भक्त कवि रामालिंगा स्वामीगल का जन्म मरुधुर, चिदंबरम में हुआ।

1864 कलकत्ता (अब कोलकाता) में आए प्रलंयकारी भूकंप में शहर का बड़ा हिस्सा तबाह हुआ। भूकंप में करीब 60 हजार लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी दिन सिनेमेटोग्राफर का पेटेंट कराने वाले फ्रांस के आविष्कारक लुइस ज्यां ल्यूमियर का जन्म हुआ।

1868 प्रख्यात असमी लेखक लक्ष्मीनाथ बेजबरूआ का जन्म हुआ।

1879 अमेरिका के मैरीलैंड राज्य के बाल्टीमोर में फ्रांसिस पीटन रौस, अमेरिकी रोगविज्ञानी और वायरोलॉजिस्ट, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता का जन्म हुआ।

1880 एटी क्रॉस ने पहले बॉल पॉइंट पेन का पेटेंट कराया। अमेरिका की एटी क्रॉस कंपनी का पेन और लेखन सामग्री पर लंबे समय एकाधिकार रहा।

1900 विश्व विख्यात चीनी लेखिका, कवियत्री, बाल साहित्यकार बिंग शिन का जन्म फूजौ, फुजियान, किंग साम्राज्य में हुआ।

1902 दुनिया की शीर्ष फूड कंपनी मैकडोनाल्ड्स की स्थापना करने वाले रे क्रॉक का जन्म हुआ।

1910 पुर्तगाल में राजशाही खत्म हुई और गणतंत्र की स्थापना हुई।

1915 बुल्गारिया ने प्रथम विश्व युद्ध में हिस्सा लिया।

1922 धर्मोपदेशक, गुरु, प्रवचनकर्ता कृपालु महाराज का जन्म मनगढ़, जिला प्रतापगढ़ उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1943 पाकिस्तान के विख्यात इस्लामिक विद्वान और सुप्रीम कोर्ट में जज रहे मोहम्मद तकी उस्मानी का जन्म देवबंद, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ।

1944 फ्रांस में महिलाओं को चुनाव में मतदान करने का अधिकार मिला।

1946 पहले कांस फिल्मोत्सव का फ्रांस में समापन हुआ।

1948 तुर्कमेनिस्तान की राजधानी अश्काबात में भूकंप से 110,000 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1950 पांडीचेरी, जिसे अब पुदुचेरी कहा जाता है, के छठवें मुख्यमंत्री वी. वैथिलिंगम का जन्म हुआ।

1952 दलित चिंतक और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता कांचा इलैया का जन्म हुआ। कांचा इलैया ने राजनीतिक विज्ञान और एम. फिल में एमए की उपाधि प्राप्त की। उन्हें दक्षिण भारतीय राज्य आंध्र प्रदेश में भूमि सुधार के अपने अध्ययन के लिए सम्मानित किया गया। उन्हें महात्मा ज्योतिराव फुले पुरस्कार मिला और यह 1994-97 के बीच नेहरू फेलो थे।

1954 भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रभावशाली राजनेता तथा प्रसिद्ध राजनीतिज्ञ गुरुदास कामत का जन्म हुआ।

1959 एथेंस, ओहियो, अमेरिका में माया यिंग लिन का जन्म हुआ। वह प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी डिजाइनर और मूर्तिकार हैं। 1981 में येल विश्वविद्यालय में स्नातक के दौरान, उन्होंने योजनाबद्ध डिजाइन के लिए एक राष्ट्रीय डिजाइन प्रतियोगिता जीतकर राष्ट्रीय पहचान हासिल की। वे हरित पार्क, पर्यावरण अनुकूल भवनों के डिजायन, योजनाकार होने के अलावा पर्यावरण संरक्षण इत्यादि विविध क्षेत्रों में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती रही हैं। अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बराक हुसैन ओबामा ने माया यिंग लिन को विविध योगदानों के लिए सम्मानित किए और उन्हें अनेक सम्मान, पुरसकार मिले हैं।

1962 जेम्स बॉंड सीरीज की पहली फिल्म डॉ. नो रिलीज हुई।

1969 विख्यात बांग्ला फिल्म अभिनेत्री, फिल्म निर्मात्री, माॅडल और तृणमूल कांग्रेस नेत्री सताब्दि राय का जन्म आगरपारा, कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1973 बाॅलीवुड, कन्नड़, मलयालम आदि भाषाओं की फिल्मों के विख्यात सिनेमाटोग्राफर रवि बर्मन का जन्म तंजावुर में हुआ।

1975 बर्कशायर, इंग्लैंड में जन्मी केट विंस्लेट कई फिल्मों में महिलाओं के अलग-अलग चरित्रों को निभाने वाली केट को टाइटैनिक में उनकी भूमिका के लिए दुनिया में बहुत सराहा गया।

1983 अमेरिका के न्यू यार्क में निकोलाई ओलिविया निकी रोथ्सचाइल्ड का जन्म हुआ। वे प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी सोशलाइट, फैशन डिजाइनर और मॉडल हैं। वह जन्म से ब्रिटिश अमेरिकी कारोबारी हिल्टन परिवार की सदस्य हैं, और 2015 में विक्टर रोथ्सचाइल्ड, तीसरे बैरन रोथ्सचाइल्ड के पोते, जेम्स रोथ्सचाइल्ड से शादी के बाद रोथ्सचाइल्ड परिवार की सदस्य हैं।

1987 दक्षिण कोरिया के बैनपो-डोंग, सियोल में सोयोन नाम से प्रसिद्ध पार्क सो-योन का जन्म हुआ। सोयोन खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, प्रसिद्ध दक्षिण कोरियाई गायिका और अभिनेत्री, नर्तकी और माॅडल हैं। उन्होंने जुलाई 2009 में संगीत समूह लड़की समूह टी-आरा के सदस्य के रूप में शुरुआत की, जो अब तक के सबसे अधिक बिकने वाले कोरियाई लड़की संगीत समूहों में से एक बन गया। उन्होंने 2021 में एकल कलाकार के रूप में शुरुआत की थी।

1988 अपारी, कगायान, फिलीपींस में माजा रॉस एंड्रेस साल्वाडोर-ओर्टेगा खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिलिपिनो अभिनेत्री, गायिका, नर्तक, मॉडल, फिल्म निर्माता, एशिया कंटेंट अवार्ड्स की प्राप्तकर्ता, एशियन एकेडमी क्रिएटिव अवार्ड्स और एशियन टेलीविजन अवार्ड्स नामांकित का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन ब्राजील की संविधान सभा ने संविधान को मंजूरी दी।

1989 न्यायमूर्ति मीरा साहिब फातिमा बीबी सुप्रीम कोर्ट की पहली महिला जज बनी। 1989 जानी-मानी टीवी एंकर, अभिनेत्री रूपल त्यागी का जन्म हुआ। उन्हें जी टीवी के सपने सुहाने लड़कपन के के लिए खासतौर पर जाना जाता है। इसी दिन 1989 में तिब्बत के 14वें दलाई लामा तेनजिन ग्यात्सो को मानवाधिकारों के क्षेत्र में कार्य के लिए नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार दिए जाने का ऐलान किया गया।

1991 जाने-माने अंग्रेजी अखबार समूह द इंडियन एक्सप्रेस के संस्थापक और देश की पत्रकारिता के स्तंभ माने जाने वाले रामनाथ गोयनका का निधन हुआ। उन्हें प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता का मुखर पैरोकार माना जाता है। वे आरएसएस के राजनीतिक संगठन भारतीय जनसंघ के समर्थक थे।

1994 संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की एजेंसी यूनेस्को ने घोषणा की कि हमारे जीवन में शिक्षकों के योगदान का जश्न मनाने और शिक्षकों का सम्मान करने के लिए वैश्विक स्तर पर 5 अक्टूबर को विश्व शिक्षक दिवस मनाया जाएगा। तब से हर साल विश्व शिक्षक दिवस पूरी दुनिया में मनाया जाता है। संयोग से इस दिन पाकिस्तान और रूस में राष्ट्रीय शिक्षक दिवस मनाया जाता है।

1995 आयरलैंड के कवि एवं साहित्यकार हीनी को वर्ष 1995 के नोबल साहित्य पुरस्कार से सम्मानित करने की घोषणा की गई।

1997 युगांडा की राजधानी कंपाला से नील नदी के स्रोत जिंजा में प्रधानमंत्री इंद्र कुमार गुजराल ने महात्मा गांधी की प्रतिमा का अनावरण किया

1997 भारतीय टेनिस खिलाड़ी लिएंडर पेस तथा महेश भूपति ने जिम कूरियर तथा एलेक्स ओ ब्रायन को पराजित कर चाईना ओपन टेनिस टूर्नामेंट का प्राप्त किया।

1999 भारत ने व्यापक परमाणु परीक्षण निषेध संधि सीटीबीटी पर होने वाली विशेष बैठक में शामिल नहीं होने का फैसला किया। इसी दिन भारत के अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी वाॅशिंगटन सुंदर का जन्म चेन्नई में हुआ।

2000 यूगोस्लाविया के राष्ट्रपति स्लोवोदान मिलोसेविच के खिलाफ विद्रोह हुआ। बाद में उन्हें अंतरराष्ट्रीय अदालत में मुकदमा चला और जेल में उनकी मौत हुई।

2001 पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति परवेज मुशर्रफ ने सेनाध्यक्ष पद पर अपना कार्यकाल अनिश्चित काल के लिए बढ़ाया।

2002 चक रेनर, कनाडाई आइस हॉकी खिलाड़ी का निधन हुआ।

2003 डैन स्नाइडर, कनाडाई-अमेरिकी आइस हॉकी खिलाड़ी एवं टिमोथी ट्रेडवेल, अमेरिकी पर्यावरणविद्, निर्देशक और निर्माता का निधन हुआ।

2004 पश्चिम एशिया पर अरब देशों के प्रस्ताव का अमेरिका ने विरोध किया। इसी दिन मौरिस विल्किंस, न्यूजीलैंड-अंग्रेजी भौतिक विज्ञानी और जीवविज्ञानी, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता का निधन हुआ।

2005 खुशमिजाजी में भारत चौथे नंबर पर आया।

2006 मैक्सिकन कुश्ती प्रमोटर एंटोनियो पेना जिन्होंने लूचा लिब्रे एएए वर्ल्ड वाइड की स्थापना की, का निधन हुआ।

2007 नेपाल सरकार और माओवादियों के बीच समझौता न हो पाने के कारण संविधान सभा के लिए चुनाव रद्द हुआ। पाकिस्तान में सैन्य तानाशाह जनरल परवेज मुशर्रफ व बेनजीर भुट्टो के बीच समझौता हुआ।

2011 मोबाइल, इंटरनेट साॅफ्टवेयर कंपनी एप्पल के सह-संस्थापक स्टीव जॉब्स का 56 वर्ष की आयु में पैंक्रियाज कैंसर के कारण निधन हुआ। इस अमेरिकी ने कंप्यूटर और मोबाइल फोन के बाजार को एक नयी दिशा दी और उनकी कंपनी दुनिया की सबसे सफल कंपनी बनी। इसी दिन 2011 में भारत में दुनिया का सबसे सस्ता 2250 रुपये का टैबलेट पीसी आकाश लॉन्च किया गया। 2011 में इसी दिन मेकांग नदी नरसंहार में, दो चीनी मालवाहक नौकाओं का अपहरण कर लिया गया और 13 चालक दल के सदस्यों की हत्या कर दी गई।

2012 वोजिन दिमित्रीजेविक, क्रोएशियाई-सर्बियाई वकील और कार्यकर्ता, जेम्स डब्ल्यू होली तृतीय अमेरिकी दंत चिकित्सक और राजनीतिज्ञ, एडवर्ड मिर्जोयान, जॉर्जियाई-अर्मेनियाई संगीतकार और शिक्षक एवं क्लाउड पिनोटो, फ्रांसीसी निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक का निधन हुआ।

2013 रूथ आर. बेनेरिटो, अमेरिकी रसायनज्ञ और अकादमिक, कार्लो लिजानी, इतालवी अभिनेता, निर्देशक, निर्माता और पटकथा लेखक एवं याक्कुन सकुराजुका, जापानी आवाज अभिनेत्री और गायिका का निधन हुआ।

2014 डेविड चावचावद्जे, अंग्रेजी-अमेरिकी खुफिया एजेंसी सीआईए अधिकारी और लेखक, एंड्रिया डी सिजेरिस, इतालवी रेसिंग ड्राइवर, जेफ्री होल्डर, त्रिनिदाद-अमेरिकी अभिनेता, गायक, नर्तक और कोरियोग्राफर एवं यूरी ल्यूबिमोव, रूसी अभिनेता और निर्देशक का निधन हुआ।

2016 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी पत्रकार और लेखक ब्रॉक येट्स का निधन हुआ।

2017 प्रसिद्ध डच राजनीतिज्ञ, एम्स्टर्डम के मेयर एबरहार्ड वैन डेर लान का निधन हुआ।

1143 With the signing of the Treaty of Zamora, King Alfonso VII of León and Castile recognized Portugal as a kingdom.

1450 Duke Louis of Bavaria expels the Jews from his jurisdiction.

1524 Durgavati, the famous heroine of Indian history and queen of Gondwana, was born in Kalinj, Madhya Pradesh.

1676: Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb introduced coins as cash currency. But during the British Raj, the government gave permission to the East India Company to mint two types of coins on 5 October 1676. This currency minted in Bombay was called Rupee and Paisa.

1750 The famous playwright Carlo Goldoni's famous play Il Teatro Comico was first staged in Venice, Italy.

1789 During the French Revolution, women of Paris marched to the Versailles Palace and demolished the fort. Double bread had become expensive, when the public in front of the palace was saying that bread was out of their reach and were demanding from the government to reduce inflation and create employment, then Queen Marie Antoinette addressed the crowd below from the window of the palace and said: If you can't get bread then eat cake. This enraged the public and then there was a revolution in France. In which many people including the king and queen were killed.

Christianity was exiled from France during the 1793 French Revolution.

1796 Spain declared war against England.

1805 Lord Cornwallis, the second Governor General and Commander in Chief of the British Raj in India, died in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

1813 American troops defeated British forces at the Battle of the Thames (in what is now Ontario, Canada). There were about 1000 Indian soldiers in the British army.

1823 Thomas Wakley started publishing The Lancet Medical Journal, the world's prestigious magazine giving information about health-related research, discoveries etc. On this day, Tamil Nadu saint and devotee poet Ramalinga Swamigal was born in Marudhur, Chidambaram.

In 1864, the devastating earthquake that hit Calcutta (now Kolkata) destroyed a large part of the city. About 60 thousand people died in the earthquake. On this day, Louis Jean Lumière, the French inventor who patented the cinematographer, was born.

1868 Famous Assamese writer Lakshminath Bezbarua was born.

1879 Francis Peyton Rouse, American pathologist and virologist, Nobel laureate, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

1880 AT Cross patented the first ball point pen. America's AT Cross company had a monopoly on pens and stationery for a long time.

1900 World famous Chinese writer, poet, children's writer Bing Xin was born in Fuzhou, Fujian, Qing Empire.

1902 Ray Kroc, who founded the world's top food company McDonald's, was born.

1910 The monarchy ended in Portugal and the republic was established.
