625 ईस्वी में 25 अक्टूबर को पोप बोनिफेस पांचवें की मृत्यु हुई। 23 दिसंबर 619 से अपनी मृत्यु तक बोनिफेस रोम के बिशप थे। उन्होंने एंग्लो-सैक्सन इंग्लैंड के इसाईकरण के लिए अथक प्रयत्न किए और वह आदेश लागू किया जिसके द्वारा जनता चर्च में आने लगी और बड़ी संख्या में लोग इसाई बने।

285 संत क्रिस्पिन या क्रिस्पिनियन का जन्म रोम में हुआ जो आगे चलकर मोची, मजदूरों, चर्मकार और चमड़े के श्रमिकों के ईसाई संरक्षक संत बने। डायोक्लेटियन के शासनकाल के दौरान उनका सिर कलम कर दिया गया। उनकी फांसी की तारीख 25 अक्टूबर बताई जाती है, सन 285 या 286 है। पक्का नहीं है कि इन दोनों में से कौन सा वर्ष था।

473 डासिया, ऑरेलियाना में सम्राट लियो प्रथम ने अपने पोते लियो द्वितीय की पूर्वी रोमन साम्राज्य के सीजर के रूप में प्रशंसा करते हुए उत्तराधिकारी घोषित किया। लियो प्रथम, जिसे थ्रेसियन के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। 457 से 474 तक पूर्व का रोमन सम्राट था। वह ऐतिहासिक थ्रेस के पास डेसिया ऑरेलियाना का मूल निवासी था। लियो द्वितीय या सीजर 17 नवंबर 473 को राजा नियुक्त हुआ। 

840 जारंज, अफगानिस्तान में ताम्रकार, सिस्तान के सफारिद राजवंश के संस्थापक या’कूब इब्न अल-लेथ अल-सफर का जन्म हुआ। सफारिद सल्तनत जिसकी राजधानी जारंज थी।

1711 इटली के दो प्राचीन ऐतिहासिक नगरों पॉम्पी तथा हरकुलेनम के अवशेषों की खोज एक ग्रामीण ने की।

1147 सेल्जुक तुर्कों ने डोरिलियम की लड़ाई में कॉनराड तृतीय के नेतृत्व वाले जर्मन क्रूसेड लड़ाकों को हराया।

1415 सौ साल के युद्ध में इंग्लैंड के हेनरी पंचम ने अपनी हल्की बख्तरबंद पैदल सेना और तीरंदाजों के साथ, एगिनकोर्ट की लड़ाई में भारी बख्तरबंद फ्रांसीसी घुड़सवार सेना को हराया।

1616 डच समुद्री कप्तान डिर्क हार्टोग ने पश्चिमी ऑस्ट्रेलियाई तट के पास ऑस्ट्रेलियाई धरती पर दूसरा लैंडफॉल बनाया। यह विदेशी द्वारा बनाया गया दूसरा लैंडफाल था, इसे बाद में डिर्क हार्टोग नामकरण हुआ।

1760 जॉर्ज तृतीय ग्रेट ब्रिटेन और आयरलैंड के राजा बने।

1800 प्रसिद्ध अंग्रेजी कवि, निबंधकार, इतिहासकार तथा राजनीतिज्ञ लॉर्ड मैकाले यानी टॉमस बैबिंग्टन मैकाले का जन्म हुआ था। इन्हीं के अथक प्रयासों से भारत में शिक्षा आम लोगों को उपलब्ध हो पाई। इनसे पहले शिक्षा का अधिकार या सुविधा समाज के मुट्ठी भर धनिक या शक्तिशाली लोगों के लिए ही थी।

1828 सेंट कैथरीन डॉक्स लंदन में खोला गया।

1868 व्इस्का, रूस में एलेक्सी मक्सिमोविच गोर्नोस्टेव का जन्म हुआ। वे प्रसिद्ध रूसी वास्तुकार हुए जो रूसी पुनरुद्धार के अग्रणी व्यक्तियों से एक थे। वालम मठ आश्रमों के निर्माता, सेंट पीटर्सबर्ग में ट्रिनिटी-सर्जियस कॉन्वेंट और हेलसिंकी में उसपेन्स्की कैथेड्रल के निर्माता थे। उन्हें रूसी उत्तर की पारंपरिक टेंट वाली छत की वास्तुकला के पुनर्जन्म का श्रेय दिया जाता है। एलेक्सी द्वारा डिजाइन और निर्मित उसपेन्स्की कैथेड्रल हेलसिंकी, फिनलैंड में एक ग्रीक ऑर्थोडॉक्स या पूर्वी ऑर्थोडॉक्स कैथेड्रल है, और फिनलैंड के ऑर्थोडॉक्स चर्च का मुख्य गिरजाघर है, जो थियोटोकोस के डॉर्मिशन को समर्पित है। इसका नाम पुराने चर्च स्लावोनिक शब्द यूस्पेनी से आया है, जो डॉर्मिशन को दर्शाता है।

1870 अमेरिका में पहली बार पत्र भेजने के लिए सबसे सस्ती डाक के रूप में पोस्टकार्ड का इस्तेमाल प्रारंभ किया गया।

1881 विश्व विख्यात स्पैनिश चित्रकार, मूर्तिकार, भवन डिजाइनर पिकासो का जन्म स्पेन के मलागा में हुआ था। उनका पूरा नाम भी विश्व का सबसे बड़ा नाम है- पाब्लो डिएगो जोस फ्रांसिस्को डी पाउला जुआन नेपोमुसेनो मारिया डे लॉस रेमेडियोस सिप्रियानो डे ला सैंटिसिमा त्रिनिदाद शहीद पेट्रीसियो क्लिटो रुइज वाई पिकासो।

1896 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय साहित्यकार तथा लेखक मुकुंदी लाल श्रीवास्तव का जन्म हुआ।

1917 बोल्शेविकों (माक्र्सवादियों-लेनिनवादियों) ने व्लादिमीर इलिच उल्यानोव लेनिन के नेतृत्व में रूस की सत्ता पर कब्जा किया।

1924 भारत में ब्रिटिश सरकार ने सुभासचंद्र बोस को गिरफ्तार कर 2 साल के लिए जेल भेजा।

1929 भारत के 25वें प्रधान न्यायाधीश हुए मानेपल्ली नारायणराओ वेंक्टचलैया का जन्म लेपाक्षी में हुआ। इसी दिन बंगाली सिनेमा के प्रमुख चरित्र अभिनेता अनिल चटर्जी का जन्म हुआ।

1937 शारदा के नाम से जानी मानी फिल्मी गीत गायिका शारदा रंजन आयंगर का जन्म हुआ।

1938 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी लेखिका मृदुला गर्ग का जन्म हुआ।

1945 द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के अंत में चीन ने ,ताइवान पर कब्जा किया। इसी दिन 1945 में जानी-मानी बांग्ला फिल्म अभिनेत्री, फिल्म पटकथा लेखिका और निर्माता, निर्देशक अपर्णा सेन का जन्म हुआ।

1951 आजाद भारत में पहले आम चुनाव की शुरूआत हुई। भारत को ब्रिटेन के शासन से आजादी 15 अगस्त 1947 को मिली और 26 जनवरी 1950 को भारत गणतंत्र बना। देश में व्यवस्था बनाने और तमाम संस्थानों के विकास को बढ़ाने में प्रधानमंत्री जवाहर लाल नेहरू ने अथक प्रयत्न किये इसके लिए हर विषय के लोगों का साथ लिया गया। आम चुनाव 1951-52 में कराना संभव हो पाए। देश के एक कोने से दूसरे कोने तक हर चीज पहुंचाना आसान न था। क्योंकि वाहनों और रास्तों की काफी कमी थी। लोकसभा की 497 तथा राज्य विधानसभाओं की 3,283 सीटों के लिए भारत के 17 करोड़ 32 लाख 12 हजार 343 रजिस्टर्ड वोटर थे। कुल 68 चरणों में वोटिंग हुई थी। लोकसभा चुनाव में कांग्रेस ने 364 सीटें जीतकर बहुमत हासिल किया। भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी 16 सीटें जीतकर दूसरी सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनी थी। पहले चुनावों में 10.59 करोड़ लोगों ने अपने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग कर इतिहास रचा था। मतदाताओं में करीब 85 अशिक्षित थे। अशिक्षित वोटर्स का ध्यान रखते हुए पार्टियों और उम्मीदवारों के लिए चुनाव चिह्न की व्यवस्था हर पार्टी के लिए अलग बैलेट बॉक्स था, जिन पर चुनाव चिह्न अंकित थे। लोहे की 2.12 करोड़ पेटियां बनाई गई थीं और 62 करोड़ मतपत्र छापे गए थे। कुछ स्थानों पर बैलेट बाॅक्स के लिए मिट्टी के परंपरागत घड़ों का इस्तेमाल किया गया।

1955 पहली बार घरेलू इस्तेमाल के लिए माइक्रोवेव ओवन की ब्रिकी टप्पन कंपनी ने शुरू की।

1960 न्यूयॉर्क में पहली इलेक्ट्रॉनिक रिस्ट वॉच बाजार में पेश की गई।

1962 अमेरिकी लेखक जॉन स्टीनबेक को साहित्य का नोबेल पुरस्कार दिया गया।

1964 तमिलनाडु के अवादी स्थित कारखाने में पहले स्वदेशी टैंक विजयंत का निर्माण किया गया।

1965 जानी मानी बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नवनीत निशान का जन्म हुआ।

1966 बाॅलीवुड फिल्मों और टीवी धारावाहिकों के जाने माने चरित्र अभिनेता शहजाद खान का जन्म हुआ।

1972 अमेरिकी गुप्तचर एजेंसी एफबीआई फेडरल ब्यूरो आॅफ इन्वेस्टिगेशन ने पहली बार महिला एजेंटों को काम पर रखा।

1980 मशहूर उर्दू लेखक और शायर साहिर लुधियानवी का निधन हुआ।

1984 हेपेटाइटिस बी यानी काला पीलिया के वायरस की पहचान शोधकर्ताओं ने की। इसी दिन राजस्थान की जानी मानी कांग्रेस महिला राजनेत्री दिव्या मेडर्ना का जन्म जयपुर में हुआ।

1988 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री कृतिका अरोरा का जन्म बरेली, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ। इसी दिन 1988 में केरल की जानी मानी संगीतज्ञ, गीत लेखिका एवं मंच परफार्मर शक्तिश्री गोपालन का जन्म कोच्चि में हुआ।

1990 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल नेहा सक्सेना का जन्म देहरादून में हुआ। इसी दिन मेघालय के पहले मुख्यमंत्री कैप्टन संगमा का निधन में हुआ।

1995 भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री पामुलपति व्यंकट नरसिम्हा राव ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र के 50वें वर्षगांठ सत्र को संबोधित किया।

1998 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी अरमान जाफर का जन्म शांगली, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ। 

2000 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष यान डिस्कवरी 13 दिन के अभियान के बाद सकुशल धरती पर वापस लौटा आया।

2003 दार्शनिक तथा समाज सुधारक पांडुरंग शास्त्री अठावले का निधन हुआ।

2004 विख्यात कनाडाई कलाकार क्रिस मैकक्लर ने 2004 में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कलाकार दिवस की शुरुआत की। विख्यात चित्रकार पाब्लो पिकासो के जन्म दिन पर कला, कला के महत्व, सहयोग, समर्थन, सराहना और कला प्रदर्शिनयां, प्रतियागिताएं, वक्तव्य इत्यादि इस आयोजन के मुख्य प्रोग्राम हैं।

2005 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी लेखक, कवि निर्मल वर्मा का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन इराक में नये संविधान के लिए जनमत संग्रह को बहुमत के साथ मंजूरी मिली।

2007 तुर्की के युद्धक विमानों ने उत्तरी इराक के पहाड़ी क्षेत्र कुर्दिस्तान में भारी बमबारी की। इसी दिन मध्य इंडोनेशिया के सुलावेसी द्वीप में माउंट सोपुटान ज्वालामुखी फटा।

2008 सिक्किम के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री नर बहादुर भंडारी को 6 माह की सजा सुनाई गई।

2009 बगदाद बम विस्फोटों में 155 लोग मारे गए और करीब 721 घायल हुए।

2010 इंडोनेशिया में माउंट मेरापी में हिंसक विस्फोटों की एक महीने तक चलने वाली श्रृंखला शुरू हुई जिसमें 353 लोग मारे गए और अन्य 350,000 लोगों को पलायन करना पड़ा। इसी दिन 2010 में इंडोनेशिया के मेंतवाई द्वीप समूह में 7.8 तीव्रता का भूकंप आया, जिससे सुनामी आई जिसमें कम से कम 400 लोग मारे गए।

2013 नाइजीरिया में सेना ने चरमपंथी संगठन बोको हरम के 74 लड़ाकों को मार डाला।

2012 इमानुएल स्टीवर्ड, अमेरिकी बॉक्सर, ट्रेनर और स्पोर्ट्सकास्टर का निधन हुआ।

2013 हैल नीधम, अमेरिकी अभिनेता, स्टंटमैन, निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक एवं ऑस्ट्रियाई-कनाडाई व्यवसायी पॉल रीचमैन ने ओलंपिया और यॉर्क का निधन हुआ।

2014 कनाडाई कलाकार क्रिस मैकक्लर ने 2014 में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कलाकार दिवस का पहली बार आयोजन किया। यह दिन विविध कलाओं के कलाकारों को सम्मान, सहयोग, सराहना, इनके कल्याण, सरकारों और जनता को जागरूक करने आयोजित किया गया। अब यह एक वैश्विक आयोजन है। इसी दिन जैक ब्रूस, स्कॉटिश-अंग्रेजी गायक-गीतकार और बास वादक एवं कार्लोस मोरालेस ट्रोनकोसो, डोमिनिकन वकील और राजनीतिज्ञ, डोमिनिकन गणराज्य के 34वें उपराष्ट्रपति का निधन हुआ।

2015 डेविड सेसरानी, अंग्रेजी इतिहासकार और लेखक, लिसा जार्डिन, अंग्रेजी इतिहासकार, लेखक और अकादमिक, सेसिल लोलो, दक्षिण अफ्रीकी फुटबॉलर एवं फ्लिप सॉन्डर्स, अमेरिकी बास्केटबॉल खिलाड़ी और कोच का निधन हुआ।

2016 कार्लोस अल्बर्टो टोरेस, ब्राजीलियाई फुटबॉल खिलाड़ी और खेल प्रशासक का निधन हुआ।

2018 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी ट्रैपिस्ट भिक्षु और सेंटरिंग प्रेयर के प्रमुख विकासकर्ता थॉमस कीटिंग का निधन हुआ।

Pope Boniface V died on October 25 in 625 AD. Boniface was Bishop of Rome from 23 December 619 until his death. He worked tirelessly for the Christianization of Anglo-Saxon England and imposed decrees that brought people into the Church and large numbers of people became Christians.

285 Saint Crispin or Crispinian was born in Rome and became the Christian patron saint of cobblers, labourers, tanners and leather workers. He was beheaded during the reign of Diocletian. The date of his execution is said to be 25 October, year 285 or 286. Not sure which year it was.

473 In Dacia, Aureliana, Emperor Leo I proclaims his grandson Leo II as Caesar of the Eastern Roman Empire, praising him as his successor. Leo I, also known as the Thracian. Was Roman emperor of the East from 457 to 474. He was a native of Dacia Aureliana, near historical Thrace. Leo II or Caesar was appointed king on 17 November 473.

840 Ya'qub ibn al-Layth al-Saffar, founder of the Saffarid dynasty of Tamrakar, Sistan, is born in Zaranj, Afghanistan. The Saffarid Sultanate whose capital was Zaranj.

1711 A villager discovered the remains of two ancient historical cities of Italy, Pompeii and Herculaneum.

1147 The Seljuk Turks defeat German crusaders led by Conrad III at the Battle of Dorylaeum.

1415 In the Hundred Years' War Henry V of England, with his lightly armored infantry and archers, defeats heavily armored French cavalry at the Battle of Agincourt.

1616 Dutch sea captain Dirk Hartog makes the second landfall on Australian soil near the Western Australian coast. It was the second landfall made by an alien, later named Dirk Hartog.

1800 Famous English poet, essayist, historian and politician Lord Macaulay i.e. Thomas Babington Macaulay was born. Due to their tireless efforts, education became available to the common people in India. Before this, the right or facility of education was only for a handful of rich or powerful people of the society.

1828 St. Catharine Docks opened in London.

1868 Alexey Maksimovich Gornostaev is born in Vyshka, Russia. He was a famous Russian architect who was one of the leading figures of the Russian Revival. Was the builder of the Valaam Monastery hermitages, the Trinity-Sergius Convent in St. Petersburg and the Uspensky Cathedral in Helsinki. He is credited with the rebirth of the traditional tented roof architecture of the Russian North. Uspensky Cathedral, designed and built by Alexy, is a Greek Orthodox or Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Helsinki, Finland, and the main cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Finland, dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos. Its name comes from the Old Church Slavonic word euspeni, denoting Dormition.

1870 For the first time in America, postcards were used as the cheapest form of mail to send letters.

1881 World famous Spanish painter, sculptor, building designer Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain. His full name is also the longest name in the world - Pablo Diego Jose Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Maria de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santissima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruiz y Picasso.

1896 Famous Indian litterateur and writer Mukundi Lal Srivastava was born.

1917 The Bolsheviks (Marxists-Leninists) seized power in Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov Lenin.

1924 The British government in India arrested Subhash Chandra Bose and sent him to jail for 2 years.

1929 Manepalli Narayanrao Venkatachaliah, the 25th Chief Justice of India, was born in Lepakshi. On this day, Anil Chatterjee, the leading character actor of Bengali cinema, was born.

1937 Sharda Ranjan Iyengar, a famous film song singer, known as Sharda, was born.

1938 Famous Hindi writer Mridula Garg was born.

1945 At the end of World War II, China occupied Taiwan. On this day in 1945, well-known Bengali film actress, film screenwriter, producer, director Aparna Sen was born.

1951 The first general elections began in independent India. India got independence from British rule on 15 August 1947 and India became a republic on 26 January 1950. Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru made tireless efforts to create order in the country and increase the development of various institutions, for this people from all walks of life were taken along. It was possible to hold general elections in 1951-52. It was not easy to transport everything from one corner of the country to another. Because there was a shortage of vehicles and roads. There were 17 crore 32 lakh 12 thousand 343 registered voters in India for 497 seats of Lok Sabha and 3,283 seats of state assemblies. Voting was held in a total of 68 phases. Congress achieved majority in the Lok Sabha elections by winning 364 seats. The Communist Party of India became the second largest party by winning 16 seats. In the first elections, 10.59 crore people created history by exercising their franchise. About 85% of the voters were illiterate. Keeping in mind the illiterate voters, there was a separate ballot box for each party, on which the election symbols were marked. 2.12 crore iron boxes were made and 62 crore ballot papers were printed. At some places, traditional earthen pots were used for ballot boxes.

2018 The first World Opera Day was held. Its initiative is the result of shared discussions between members of Opera America, Opera Latinoamerica and Opera Europa and representatives of the rest of the world opera sector at the first World Opera Forum, organized by the Teatro Real Madrid in April in 2018. World Opera Day is an awareness campaign about the positive impact and importance of opera to society.
