737 कलकत्ता में सबसे खतरनाक चक्रवात तूफान आया। इसमें लाखों लोगों के मरने का अनुमान है।

965 कोलोन, जर्मनी के प्रसिद्ध आर्कबिशप ब्रूनो द ग्रेट का निधन हुआ।

1086 प्रसिद्ध चीनी इतिहासकार और राजनेता सिमा गुआंग का निधन हुआ।

1311 अध्यादेश अंग्रेज सम्राट की शक्ति को सीमित करने के लिए इंग्लैंड के साम्राज्य के साथियों और पादरियों ने राजा एडवर्ड द्वितीय पर प्रतिबंध लगाए। अध्यादेशों के इक्कीस हस्ताक्षरकर्ताओं को लॉर्ड्स के रूप में जाना जाता है। स्कॉटिश युद्ध में अंग्रेजी असफलताओं राजशाही द्वारा की जाने वाली जबरन वसूली से त्रस्त धनिकों, पादरियों इत्यादि राजा के प्रशासनिक विशेषाधिकारों को बड़े पैमाने पर एक औपनिवेशिक परिषद द्वारा विनियोजित किया था। विशेष रूप से राजा के पसंदीदा पियर्स गेवेस्टन के प्रति असंतोष था जिसे बाद में बैरन ने राज्य से बाहर निकाल दिया। एडवर्ड द्वितीय ने केवल दबाव के तहत अध्यादेशों को स्वीकार किया, और उनके निरसन के लिए एक लंबा संघर्ष शुरू हुआ जो तब तक समाप्त नहीं हुआ जब तक कि ऑर्डिनर्स के नेता, लैंकेस्टर के अर्ल थॉमस को 1322 में फांसी नहीं दे दी गई।

1492 विश्व विख्यात खोजी, इटली के यात्री क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस की पहली यात्रा में उसके जहाज के सदस्यों ने गुयाना के रास्ते पर अज्ञात प्रकाश के देखे जाने की सूचना दी। इसके बाद वह जहाज को किनारे पर एक जगह रोका गया। जहाज से लोग बाहर आए। बाद में इस धरती को अमेरिका के नाम से जाना गया। हालांकि अमेरिका नामकरण तो बहुत साल बाद हुआ, जब दशकों तक इटली, स्पेन,फ्रांस ने खूब लूट मचा ली और स्थानीय लोगों का दमन कर कब्जा जमा लिया। 

1492 के 11 अक्टूबर को फ्रांस में एक बड़ी घटना घटी जब एक बालक का जन्म हुआ। राजा चार्ल्स और ऐनी का विवाह दिसंबर 1491 में हुआ था। फ्रांस के चार्ल्स ऑरलैंडो, डौफिन के जन्म से एक साल से भी कम समय पहले। इसकी शुरुआत नाखुशी से हुई थी, नई रानी को अपने ऊपर थोपी गई शादी और अपनी भाभी ऐनी, डचेस ऑफ बॉर्बन के राजनीतिक प्रभुत्व से नाराजगी थी। इस प्रकार उसकी गर्भावस्था का उसके साथ-साथ राजा और लोगों ने विशेष खुशी के साथ स्वागत किया, क्योंकि वालोइस हाउस की कमजोर बड़ी शाखा एक पुरुष उत्तराधिकारी पर निर्भर थी। उत्तराधिकार के लिए एक पुरुष बालक की जरूरत थी। ऐनी ने अपनी गर्भावस्था आराम से बिताई, अपने पति के समर्पण को ध्यान में रख्ते हुए जिसने यह सुनिश्चित किया कि उसे थकान नहीं होगी या अनावश्यक यात्रा नहीं करनी पड़ेगी। 1492 की शरद ऋतु में, राजा और रानी प्लेसिस-लेस-टूर्स के महल में गए, जहां अपेक्षित लड़के के जन्म के लिए सब कुछ तैयार किया गया था। जन्म पर खूब खुशियां मनाई गईं। यह बालक चार्ल्स ऑरलैंडो, डौफिन के नाम से जाना गया।

1521 पोप लियो दसवें ने इंग्लैंड के राजा हेनरी अष्टम को आस्था के रक्षक की उपाधि दी।

1531 स्विटजरलैंड के रिफॉर्मेशन लीडर हल्ड्रीच जिंगली लड़ाई में मारे गए थे जब कैथोलिक केंटन ने उनके गठबंधन द्वारा लागू किए जा रहे खाद्य नाकाबंदी के जवाब में हमला किया।

1552 क्रैमलिन, मास्को में दिमित्री इवानोविच का जन्म हुआ जो आगे चलकर रूस का राजा बना और इसका नाम हुआ - रूस के त्सारेविच दिमित्री इवानोविच।

1554 बेंथीम-टेक्लेनबर्ग-स्टाइनफर्ट-लिम्बर्ग के अर्नोल्ड तृतीय एक जर्मन रईस थे। वह बेंथीम, टेक्लेनबर्ग और स्टीनफर्ट के काउंट और लिम्बर्ग के ज्यूर ऑक्सोरिस काउंट थे। उन्होंने बेंथीम और टेक्लेनबर्ग में अर्नोल्ड चतुर्थ के रूप में और स्टीनफर्ट में अर्नोल्ड द्वितीय के रूप में शासन किया।

1634 उत्तरी प्रशिया के तट पर आए एक तूफान के ज्वार ने बड़े पैमाने पर बाढ़ ला दी जिससे 8 हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गए और स्ट्रैंड द्वीप को छोटे छोटे द्वीपों में विभाजित कर दिया।

1649 क्रॉमवेल की न्यू मॉडल आर्मी ने वेक्सफोर्ड को बर्खास्त कर दिया, जिसमें 2,000 से अधिक आयरिश संघीय सैनिक और 1,500 नागरिक मारे गए। ओलिवर क्रॉमवेल के नेतृत्व में अंग्रेजी राष्ट्रमंडल बलों ने शहर पर धावा बोल दिया, जिसमें अधिकांश आयरिश संघ और रॉयलिस्ट गैरीसन मारे गए। कई नागरिक मारे गए, या स्लेनी नदी के पार भागने की कोशिश में डूब गए।

1826 विख्यात तमिल कवि, कथाकार, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और भारतीय प्रशानिक सेवा के अफसर रहे सैमुएल वेदानागायम पिल्लई का जन्म तिरुचिरापल्ली में हुआ।

1852 ऑस्ट्रेलिया महाद्वीप के पहले विश्वविद्यालय सिडनी यूनिवर्सिटी की स्थापना हुई।

1862 विश्व विख्यात अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक, आविष्कारक थॉमस अल्वा एडिशन ने अपनी पहली खोज, इलेक्ट्रिक वॉइस मशीन का पेटेंट प्राप्त किया।

1869 प्रख्यात भारतीय गांधीवादी विचारक और शिक्षाविद मगन भाई देसाई का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक, खोजकर्ता और आविष्कारक थॉमस एडीसन ने अपने पहले आविष्कार पर एक पेटेंट के लिए आवेदन किया। इस इलेक्ट्रिक मशीन का इस्तेमाल वोटों की गिनती के लिए किया गया था।

1869 कनाडा में ब्रिटिश सेना के खिलाफ स्थानीय लोगों ने लाल नदी विद्रोह शुरू किया।

1881 विख्यात अमेरिकी आविष्कारक डेविड हेंडरसन हॉस्टन ने कैमरे के पहले रोल फिल्म का पेटेंट कराया।

1887 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी आविष्कारक ई. मिल्स को स्वचालित सीढ़ियों का पेटेंट मिला।

1902 लोकनायक के नाम से प्रसिद्ध समाजवादी राजनेता और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी जयप्रकाश नारायण का जन्म सारण, बिहार में हुआ।

1911 रामकृष्ण परमहंस के प्रमुख शिष्य विवेकानंद की सहयोगी, शिक्षिका तथा समाज सेविका सिस्टर निवेदिता का निधन हुआ।

1916 राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के प्रमुख विचारक, संगठनकर्ता और वक्ता नानाजी देशमुख का जन्म हुआ।

1923 विख्यात भारतीय अमेरिकी गणितज्ञ और फिजिसिस्ट हरीश चंद्र का जन्म कानपुर में हुआ।

1930 लंबे समय जेल में बिताने के बाद पं. जवाहरलाल नेहरू नैनी सेंट्रल जेल इलाहाबाद से हुए।

1932 न्यूयॉर्क में राजनीतिक अभियान के लिए पहला रेडियो प्रसारण किया गया।

1938 हिंदी के प्रख्यात लेखक, विचारक कमल किशोर गोयनका जन्म बुलंदशहर में हुआ। डॉ. कमल किशोर गोयनका उपाध्यक्ष केंद्रीय हिंदी संस्थान, मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में हिंदी विभाग के प्राध्यापक रहे, वहाँ चालीस वर्ष अध्यापन किया। गोयनका उपन्यास सम्राट प्रेमचंद के साहित्य के सर्वोत्तम विद्वान, शोधकर्ता माने जाते हैं। प्रेमचद, महात्मा गंाधी इत्यादि पर उनकी अनेकों पुस्तकें व लेख प्रकाशित हुए, इसके अलावा भी उन्होंने प्रचुर लेखन किया।

1941 पीपुल्स लिबरेशन आर्मी मैसेडोनिया के सशस्त्र विद्रोहियों ने मैसिडोनिया के राष्ट्रीय मुक्ति युद्ध की शुरुआत करते हुए, प्रिलेप शहर में एक्सिस के कब्जे वाले क्षेत्रों पर हमला किया।

1942 बाॅलीवुड के बिग बी फिल्म अभिनेता अमिताभ बच्चन का जन्म हुआ। यह प्रख्यात हिंदी कवि डा. हरिवंश राय बच्चन के पुत्र हैं।

1946 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय वैज्ञानिक विजय पी. भटकर का जन्म हुआ।

1951 जाने माने बाॅलीवुड फिल्म निर्माता एवं निर्देशक मुकुल एस आनंद का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1961 आंध्र प्रदेश के प्रमुख कारोबारी, उद्योगपति, टेलीविजन और फार्मास्यूटिकल क्षेत्र के प्रमुख व्यक्ति निम्मागड़ा प्रसाद का जन्म हुआ।

1965 छोटे पर्दे यानी टेलीविजन के अमिताभ बच्चन कहे गये टेलीविजन के प्रमुख अभिनेता तथा माॅडल रोनित राॅय का जन्म नागपुर में हुआ।

1968 जाने माने तथा अनेक पुरस्कार और सम्मान प्राप्त बाॅलीवुड फिल्म अभिनेता चंद्रचूड़ सिंह का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका का पहला मानवयुक्त ओपोलो मिशन अपोलो 7 के प्रक्षेपण का कक्षा से पहली बार टेलीविजन प्रसारण किया गया।

1971 जाने माने भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेता और एंकर अमन वर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1972 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर संजय बापूसाहेब बांगर का जन्म बीड महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1973 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी राजस्थान के छठवें मुख्यमंत्री और कांग्रेस नेता, बरकतुल्लाह खान का निधन हुआ।

1975 एक अमेरिकी साप्ताहिक स्केच कॉमेडी वैरायटी शो सैटरडे नाइट लाइव पहली बार टेलीविजन पर प्रसारित किया गया।

1984 चार्लोटटाउन, कनाडा में मार्था मैकइसाक का जन्म हुआ। मार्था प्रसिद्ध कनाडाई अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, फिल्म निर्माता, निर्देशक और मनोरंजन कारोबारी हैं। वह सुपरबैड, द लास्ट हाउस ऑन द लेफ्ट, डेड बिफोर डॉन और बैटल ऑफ द सेक्सेस आदि में निभाई अपनी भूमिकाओं के लिए खासतौर पर जानी जाती हैं। उन्होंने टेलीविजन और स्वर कलाकार के रूप में भी काम किया है।

1984 जाने माने भारतीय टेलीविजन अभिनेता तथा माॅडल करन कुंदरा का जन्म जालंधर में हुआ। इसी दिन विश्व प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष वैज्ञानिक कैथरीन डी सुलिवन अंतरिक्ष में सैर करने वाली पहली महिला अंतरिक्ष यात्री बनी। वह अंतरिक्ष शटल चैलेंजर पर सवार होकर अंतरिक्ष यात्रा पर गईं।

1987 भारत की शांति सेना ने श्रीलंका में ऑपरेशन पवन की शुरुआत की. यह अभियान लिट्टे का कब्घ्जा खत्म कर जाफना को मुक्त कराने के लिए छेड़ा गया था।

1993 जाने माने भारतीय क्रिकेटर हार्दिक पंड्या का जन्म चोरयासी, सूरत, गुजरात में हुआ।

1994 अमेरिका के कोलोराडो सुप्रीम कोर्ट राज्य में समलैंगिक विरोधी प्रावधानों को असंवैधानिक घोषित कर दिया। यानी समलैंगिकों के साथ किये जाने वाले कानूनी भेदभाव, सजा इत्यादि को खत्म किया।

1995 बीजिंग में महिलाओं पर विश्व सम्मेलन में देशों ने सर्वसम्मति से बीजिंग घोषणा और कार्रवाई के मंच को अपनाया - न केवल महिलाओं बल्कि लड़कियों के अधिकारों को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए विशेष रूप से लड़कियों के अधिकारों की बात करने वाला पहला घोषणापत्र है। 19 दिसंबर, 2011 को, संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने लड़कियों के अधिकारों और दुनिया भर में लड़कियों के सामने आने वाली अनोखी चुनौतियों को पहचानने के लिए 11 अक्टूबर को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बालिका दिवस घोषित करने के लिए संकल्प 66/170 को अपनाया।

2000 जानी मानी प्रतिभावान टेलीविजन धारावाहिकों की बाल अभिनेत्री स्पर्श कंचनदानी का जन्म उल्हासनगर, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ। इसी दिन मैच फिक्सिंग के आरोपों के कारण दक्षिण अफ्रीकी क्रिकेट बोर्ड क्रिकेटर हैन्सी क्रोन्ये पर आजीवन प्रतिबंध।

2001 त्रिनिदाद में जन्मे भारतीय मूल के ब्रिटिश लेखक विद्याधर सूरज प्रसाद नॉयपाल को वर्ष 2001 के नोबेल साहित्य पुरस्कार से सम्मानित करने की घोषणा की गई।.

2002 खूबसूरत और गोलमाल सहित 120 से अधिक हिंदी फिल्मों में काम करने वाली खूबसूरत, बोल्ड प्रसिद्ध फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल दीना पाठक का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन नेपाल नरेश ज्ञानेंद्र ने लोकेन्द्र बहादुर को प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त किया।

2005 मिसिसॉगा, कनाडा में शान-उल-हक हक्की का निधन हुआ।,हक्की सितारा-ए-इम्तियाज, तमगा-ए-कायद-ए-आजम, पाकिस्तान के प्रतिष्ठित उर्दू शायर, लेखक, पत्रकार, प्रसारक, अनुवादक, आलोचक, शोधकर्ता, भाषाविद् और कोशकार थे। उनका जन्म 15 सितंबर 1917 को दिल्ली में हुआ था।

2006 संयुक्त राष्ट्र की एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार दुनिया भर के कई स्थानों पर बच्चों का दुरुपयोग व्यापक और सहनशील है। यानी दुनिया भर में बाल श्रम और बच्चों के साथ दुव्र्यवहार इत्यादि सामान्य बात है।

2007 विख्यात ब्रिटिश उपन्यासकार डोरिस लैसिंग को वर्ष 2007 का साहित्य का नोबेल पुरस्कार देने की घोषणा की गई।  इसी दिन भारतीय आध्यात्मिक नेता चिन्मय का निधन हुआ, जिन्होंने 1964 में न्यूयॉर्क, पश्चिम में ध्यान सिखाया।

2008 भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने नौगांव स्टेशन से हरी झंडी दिखाकर कश्मीर की घाटी में चलने वाली पहली रेलगाड़ी को रवाना किया।

2010 इजरायल के प्रधान मंत्री बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू ने कहा कि अगर फिलिस्तीनी नेतृत्व इजरायल को यहूदी राज्य के रूप में मान्यता देता है तो वह फिलिस्तीन विरोधी अपनी कार्रवाइयां रोक देंगे। फिलिस्तीनियों ने इस प्रस्ताव को तुरंत अस्वीकार कर दिया।

2012 स्विटजरलैंड में एडवर्ड कोस्सोय का निधन हुआ। पोलैंड में जन्मे कोस्सोय प्रसिद्ध कानूनविद, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और हिटलर के नाजीवाद पीड़ितों के वकील थे।

2013 सिसिली के चैनल में एक प्रवासी नाव डूब गई, जिसमें करीब 34 लोग डूब गए।

2014 अर्जेंटीना के प्रसिद्ध फुटबॉलर कार्मेलो शिमोन, ऑस्ट्रेलिया के प्रसिद्ध शिक्षक और राजनीतिज्ञ बॉब सुच का निधन हुआ।

2015 प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी बेसबॉल खिलाड़ी और खेल प्रबंधक डीन चांस का निधन हुआ।

2017 प्रसिद्ध बारबाडियन राजनीतिज्ञ क्लिफोर्ड हसबैंड्स का निधन हुआ।

2019 जाने माने सोवियत अंतरिक्ष यात्री और स्पेसवॉक करने वाले पहले मानव एलेक्सी लियोनोव का निधन हुआ।

2021 कैलिफोर्निया राज्य के एक नगर में एक विमान दुर्घटना में भारतीय मूल के हृदय रोग एरिजोना के युमा रीजनल मेडिकल सेंटर (वाईआरएमसी) में कार्यरत डॉ. सुगाता दास विशेषज्ञ समेत 2 लोगों की मौत हो गई और कई घायल हो गये। दुर्घटना के कारण पास के मकानों में आग लग गई जिससे काफी क्षति हुई।

2022 लॉस एंजिल्स, कैलिफोर्निया, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में डेम एंजेला ब्रिगिड लैंसबरी का निधन हुआ। वह अंतरराष्ट्रीय ख्यातिप्राप्त आयरिश-ब्रिटिश और अमेरिकी अभिनेत्री और गायिका थीं। अपने अस्सी साल के करियर में, उन्होंने फिल्म, रंग मंच और टेलीविजन में विभिन्न भूमिकाएँ निभाईं।

965 Bruno the Great, the famous Archbishop of Cologne, Germany, dies.

1086 Sima Guang, famous Chinese historian and politician, passed away.

The Ordinance of 1311 imposed restrictions on the peerage and clergy of the Kingdom of England against King Edward II in order to limit the power of the English monarch. The twenty-one signatories of the Ordinances are known as Lords. English failures in the Scottish Wars The king's administrative prerogatives, fed up with extortion by the nobility and the clergy, were largely appropriated by a baronial council. There was particular resentment towards the king's favourite, Pierce Gaveston, who was later driven out of the kingdom by the barons. Edward II only accepted the Ordinances under duress, and a long struggle for their repeal began which did not end until the leader of the Ordinaries, Thomas Earl of Lancaster, was hanged in 1322.

1492 During the first voyage of the world-renowned explorer, Italian traveler Christopher Columbus, members of his ship reported seeing an unknown light en route to Guiana. After this the ship was stopped at a place on the shore. People came out of the ship. Later this land came to be known as America. However, the name America happened after many years, when for decades Italy, Spain and France looted a lot and captured the local people by suppressing them.

On October 11, 1492, a big event happened in France when a child was born. King Charles and Anne were married in December 1491. Charles Orlando of France, less than a year before the birth of the Dauphin. It began unhappily, with the new queen resenting the marriage imposed upon her and the political dominance of her sister-in-law Anne, Duchess of Bourbon.
