680 इस्लामिक पैगंबर मुहम्मद के पोते हुसैन इब्न अली को यजीद प्रथम की सेना ने युद्ध में मार दिया। कर्बला की लड़ाई में संक्षिप्त सैन्य भागीदारी जिसमें पैगंबर मुहम्मद के पोते और चौथे खलीफा अली के बेटे अल-हुसैन इब्न अली के नेतृत्व में एक छोटा सैन्य दल था और उमय्यद खलीफा यजीद प्रथम की सेना ने नरसंहार कर पराजित कर दिया।

1731 हाइड्रोजन गैस की खोज करने वाले ब्रिटेन के वैज्ञानिक हेनरी कैवेंडिश का जन्म हुआ।

1756 भारत में अपना आधिपत्य जमाने में लगे ब्रिटिश गवर्नर जनरल रॉबर्ट क्लाइव ने कलकत्ता पर पुनः कब्जे के लिए मद्रास से बंगाल की ओर प्रस्थान किया।

1780 कैरिबियन सागर में आए जबरदस्त अटलांटिक तूफान ने व्यापक क्षेत्र में भारी तबाही मचाई जिससे 22,000 से अधिक लोगों की मौत का अंदाजा लगाया गया। जब जन संख्या बहुत कम थी, तब इतने लोगों की मौत से आप क्षेत्रफल और तबाही का अंदाजा लगा सकते हैं।

1846 प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश खगोलविद विलियम लासेल ने नेपच्यून के प्राकृतिक उपग्रह की खोज की।

1906 मालगुडी डेज जैसी अमर कथाओं के लोकप्रिय प्रतिष्ठित भारतीय अंग्रेजी लेखक आरके नारायण का जन्म हुआ।

1910 द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के बीच चीन में निस्वार्थ सेवाएँ देते हुए जान देने वाले प्रसिद्ध भारतीय डॉक्टर द्वारकानाथ कोटणीस का जन्म हुआ। इन्हें चीन के लोग बहुत सम्मान से याद करते हैं। इसी दिन मदन मोहन मालवीय की अध्यक्षता में प्रथम अखिल भारतीय हिंदी सम्मेलन का बनारस में आयोजन किया गया।

1911 वुचांग विद्रोह के साथ सिन्हाई क्रांति शुरु हुई। इसने किंग राजवंश के पतन और चीन गणराज्य की स्थापना में अहम रोल अदा किया।

1912 प्रमुख प्रगतिशील हिंदी आलोचक, कवि और विचारक डॉ. रामविलास शर्मा का जन्म हुआ।

1920 मध्य प्रदेश के प्रमुख नेताओं में से एक मुख्यमंत्री रहे प्रकाश चंद्र सेठी का जन्म हुआ।

1923 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय वैज्ञानिक शिवराज रामशरण का जन्म हुआ।

1924 भारत के प्रसिद्ध हॉकी खिलाड़ी बलबीर सिंह दोसांझ का जन्म हरीपुर खालसा, पंजाब में हुआ। इन्हें बलबीर सिंह सीनियर भी कहा जाता है। इसी दिन अमेरिका के शिकागो शहर में स्थित लोयोला विश्वविद्यालय के लेक शोर परिसर में अल्फा डेल्टा गामा बिरादरी की स्थापना की गई।

1946 विख्यात जैन मुनि आचार्य विद्यासागर का जन्म हुआ।

1954 हिंदी फिल्मो की प्रमुख अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल रेखा का जन्म मद्रास में हुआ। उनका वास्तविक नाम भानुरेखा जेमिनी गणेसन है।

1956 दूरदर्शन के बहुचर्चित धारावाहिक महाभारत में युधिष्ठिर का किरदार निभाने वाले टेलीविजन अभिनेता गजेंद्र चौहान का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1964 जापान की राजधानी टोक्यो में ओलिंपिक खेलों की शुरुआत हुई। एशिया में होने वाले ये पहले ओलिंपिक थे। 24 अक्टूबर को इन खेलों का समापन हुआ था। दूसरे विश्वयुद्ध की भयावहता को याद करने के लिए 6 अगस्त 1945 को हिरोशिमा में जन्मी योशिनोरी सकाई को मशाल जलाने के लिए चुना गया था। हिरोशिमा में 6 अगस्त 1945 को ही परमाणु बम फेंका गया था। उसके बाद दूसरा परमाणु बम नागासाकी में 9 अगस्त को फेंका गया। टोक्यो ओलिंपिक पहला ऐसा ओलिंपिक था, जिसका प्रसारण सैटेलाइट का इस्तेमाल करते हुए अमेरिका और यूरोप में किया गया। 

1967 आउटर स्पेस ट्रीटी यानी बाह्य अंतरिक्ष संधि 27 जनवरी, 1967 को अमेरिका, सोवियत संघ और ब्रिटेन के बीच हुई। यह आउटर स्पेस में परमाणु हथियारों के इस्तेमाल को रोकने के लिए की गई थी। इस समझौते पर 105 देशों ने दस्तखत किए हैं। यह 10 अक्टूबर 1967 से लागू हुई थी। दिसंबर-1966 में यूएन महासभा की ओर से मंजूर ट्रीटी की शर्तों के अनुसार बाहरी अंतरिक्ष पर किसी भी देश का अधिकार नहीं है। सभी देशों को अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान की पूर्ण स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त है। संधि पर हस्ताक्षर करने वाले सभी देश आउटर स्पेस का इस्तेमाल केवल शांति से जुड़े कामों के लिए कर सकते हैं। चांद तथा दूसरे ग्रहों पर किसी भी तरह सैनिक केंद्रों की स्थापना नहीं की जा सकेगी।

1967 नई दिल्ली में राजीव सूरी का जन्म हुआ। वे सिंगापुर में बिजनेस एक्जीक्यूटिव रहे और मोबाइल कंपनी नोकिया के सीईओ भी रहे।

1969 मलयालम सिनेमा के प्रमुख व्यक्तित्व, अभिनेता, लेखक, हास्य कलाकार, निर्देशक सलीम कुमार का जन्म चिट्टाटुकारा में हुआ।

1970 फिजी को स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1971 अमेरिका के एरिजोना के लेक हवासु शहर में लंदन ब्रिज को पुनर्निर्मित किया गया। इसे ब्रिटेन से खरीदकर तोड़कर अमेरिका लाया गया था।

1973 तेलुगू सिनेमा के विख्यात निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक कोडुरी श्रीसैला श्री राजामौली का जन्म अमरेश्वर में हुआ। इसी दिन संयुक्त राज्य के उपराष्ट्रपति स्पाइरो एग्न्यू ने कर चोरी के आरोप के बाद इस्तीफा दे दिया।

1978 रोहिणी खादिलकर राष्ट्रीय चेस प्रतियोगिता जीतने वाली प्रथम भारतीय महिला बनी।

1986 खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, सुपरिचित हिंदी, मराठी, तमिल फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल श्रुति मराठे का जन्म वडोदरा में हुआ। अलसल्वाडोर की राजधानी सैन सल्वाडोर और आसपास आए 7.5 तीव्रता वाले भूकंप में 1,500 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1988 जाने माने भारतीय रोवर एथलीट मंजीत सिंह का जन्म हुआ।

1989 जानी मानी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल संजना गलरानी का जन्म बंगलौर में हुआ।

1989 जानी मानी, बोल्ड, खूबसूरत फिल्म अभिनेत्री, माॅडल, मिस इंडिया और फिल्म निर्मात्री मनस्वी ममगाई का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1990 जानी मानी हिंदी, तमिल, तेलुगू और अन्य भाषाओं की फिल्म अभिनेत्री तथा माॅडल रकुल प्रीत सिंह का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका का 67वां मानव अंतरिक्ष मिशन डिस्कवरी 11 अंतरिक्ष से लौटा।

1992 पश्चिम बंगाल में दूसरा हुगली पुल विद्यासागर सेतु खुला। यह सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता ईश्वर चंद्र विद्यासागर को समर्पित है।

1994 मलयालम सिनेमा की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल सिझा रोज का जन्म कोझिकोड़ में हुआ।

1994 मुनहेउंग-डोंग, ग्वांगजू, दक्षिण कोरिया में बे सू-जी का जन्म हुआ। सू-जी खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, लोकप्रिय दक्षिण कोरियाई गायिका, अभिनेत्री और मॉडल हैं। यह एक मात्र दक्षिण कोरियाई अभिनेत्री हैं जिनका मैडम तुसाद संग्रहालय में मोम का स्टेच्यू स्थापित किया गया है।

1995 भारत की प्रसिद्ध टेबल टेनिस खिलाड़ी सुतीर्था मुखर्जी का जन्म हुआ।

2001 बांग्लादेश में खालिदा जिया ने प्रधानमंत्री पद की शपथ ग्रहण की।

2003 भारत ने इस्रायल और रूस के साथ एवाक्स निर्माण के लिए समझौता किया।

2015 दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की मशहूर हास्य अभिनेत्री मनोरमा का देहांत हुआ।

2014 भारत में बाल कल्याण के लिए उल्लेखनीय कार्य करने वाले कैलाश सत्यार्थी को नोबेल पुरस्कार की घोषणा की गयी.

2015 तुर्की की राजधानी अंकारा में एक शांति रैली में बम विस्फोट से कम से कम 95 लोग मारे गए और 200 घायल हुए। इसी दिन मनोरमा हिंदी सिनेमा की लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री का निधन हुआ। उन्होंने कई फिल्मों में खलनायिका और हास्य चरित्रों को साकार किया था। उनकी कुछ चर्चित फिल्मों में सीता और गीता, एक फूल दो माली, दो कलियां, कारवाँ आदि थीं। उनकी अंतिम फिल्म दीपा मेहता की वाटर थी, जिसमें उन्होंने विधवा आश्रम की मुखिया की भूमिका निभाई थी। 

2018 तूफान माइकल फ्लोरिडा पैनहैंडल में विनाशकारी श्रेणी 5 के रूप में पहुंचा। इससे संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में 57 लोग मारे गए, फ्लोरिडा में 45 लोग मारे गए और अनुमानित 25.1 अरब डॉलर की क्षति हुई।

2021 भाजपा शीर्ष नेतृत्व से नाराज चल रहे भाजपा के पीलीभीत से सांसद वरूण गांधी ने आरोप लगाया कि लखीमपुर खीरी में हुई पिछले दिनों किसान विरोधी हिंसा की घटना को हिंदू बनाम सिख बनाए जाने की कोशिश की जा रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह कोशिश न सिर्फ अनैतिक व गलत धारणा पैदा करने वाली है बल्कि खतरनाक भी है। वरूण गांधी किसानों के मुद्दे पर लगातार अपनी राय रख रहे हैं। लखीमपुर खीरी में पिछले दिनों हुई हिंसा को लेकर भी उन्होंने वीडियो साझा किए थे और दोषियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग की थी। इसके बाद भाजपा की नवगठित राष्ट्रीय कार्यसमिति से वरूण को बाहर कर दिया गया था। वरूण गांधी ने एक ट्वीट में कहा, लखीमपुर खीरी की घटना को हिदू बनाम सिख की लड़ाई बनाने की एक कोशिश हो रही है। यह न सिर्फ अनैतिक व गलत विमर्श पैदा करने वाली है बल्कि ऐसी कोई रेखा खींचना और उनके घावों को हरा करने का प्रयास, जिसे भरने में पीढ़ियां खप गईं, खतरनाक है। हमें राजनीतिक फायदे के लिए राष्ट्रीय एकता को ताक पर नहीं रखना चाहिए। वरूण गांधी ने कहा कि लखीमपुर खीरी में न्याय के लिए संघर्ष गरीब किसानों की निर्दयी हत्या को लेकर है और इसका किसी धर्म विशेष से कोई लेनादेना नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा, प्रदर्शनकारी किसानों को खालिस्तानी बताया जाना न सिर्फ हमारी सीमाओं की सुरक्षा के लिए लड़ने और खून बहाने वाले देश के महान सपूतों का अपमान है बल्कि राष्ट्रीय एकता के लिए खतरनाक भी है, यदि इससे गलत प्रकार की प्रतिक्रया हो जाए तो ? इसी दिन स्वास्थ्य विशेषज्ञों ने बच्चों के मानसिक स्वास्थ्य पर कोविड महामारी के बुरे प्रभाव को देखते हुए कहा है कि विद्यार्थी लंबे समय तक अपने दोस्तों और शिक्षकों से भौतिक रूप से दूर रहे हैं, ऐसे में स्कूल लौटने पर उनके साथ घुलना-मिलना विद्यार्थियों के लिए चिंता विषय हो सकती है। विशेषज्ञों ने रविवार को विश्व मानसिक स्वास्थ्य दिवस के अवसर पर कहा कि बच्चों को स्कूलों में वापस लौटने पर बेचैनी का सामना करना पड़ सकता है। विशेषज्ञों ने उनके माता-पिता और शिक्षकों को स्कूलों के फिर से खुलने के बाद बच्चों में एकाग्रता की कमी तथा अचानक गुस्सा आने जैसे चेतावनी के संकेतों पर नजर रखने की सलाह दी। दिल्ली में गैर सरकारी संगठन कोरस्टोन की भारत की उपाध्यक्ष एवं निदेशक ग्रेसी एंड्र्यू ने माता-पिता को सलाह दी कि वे अपने बच्चों को उनके डर को स्वीकार करने और उसका सामना करने दें। उन्होंने बताया, अक्सर माता-पिता डरो मत या बेवकूफी मत करो, ‘डरने की कोई बात नहीं है जैसी बातें कहकर उनकी भावनाओं को नकार देते हैं। इसके बजाय बच्चों को उनके डर को व्यक्त करने देना चाहिये। इस बात को मानना चाहिये कि चिंता स्वाभाविक है। वास्तव में यह देखना चाहिये कि उन्हें क्या डरा रहा है? क्या अन्य बच्चों के साथ भी ऐसा हो रहा है या क्या यह कोविड की चपेट में आने का डर है। फिर उन्हें सुरक्षा के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान करें। उन्हें बताएं कि संक्रमित होने पर भी बच्चों के गंभीर रूप से बीमार होने का जोखिम कम है। माता-पिता बच्चों के स्कूल वापस जाने पर हर वक्त उनका साथ देकर उन्हें सहारा दे सकते हैं।

680 Hussein ibn Ali, grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, was killed in battle by the army of Yazid I. Brief military engagement at the Battle of Karbala in which a small force led by al-Hussein ibn Ali, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and son of the fourth Caliph Ali, was massacred and defeated by the forces of the Umayyad Caliph Yazid I.

1731 Henry Cavendish, the British scientist who discovered hydrogen gas, was born.

1756 British Governor General Robert Clive, who was busy establishing his supremacy in India, left Madras for Bengal to recapture Calcutta.
