337 कॉन्स्टेंटाइन द्वितीय, कॉन्स्टेंटियस द्वितीय, और कॉन्स्टेंस अपने पिता कॉन्स्टेंटाइन प्रथम के उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में सह-सम्राट बने। रोमन साम्राज्य को तीन ऑगस्टी या शासन क्षेत्रों में विभाजित किया गया।

384 कोंस्टांटिनोपल में होनोरियस का जन्म हुआ। सम्राट थियोडोसियस प्रथम और उनकी पहली पत्नी एलीया फ्लैसिला का छोटा बेटा। 395 में थियोडोसियस की मृत्यु के बाद स्टिलिचो की रीजेंसी के अधीन होनोरियस ने रोमन साम्राज्य के पश्चिमी आधे हिस्से पर शासन किया साथ ही उसके भाई अर्काडियस ने पूर्वी हिस्से पर शासन किया। पश्चिमी रोमन साम्राज्य पर होनोरियस का शासन विशेष रूप से अनिश्चित और अराजक था।

1141 चीन में कारा खिताई शासन क्षेत्र की स्थापना करने वाले लियाओ राजवंश के जनरल येलु दाशी ने कतवान की लड़ाई में सेल्जूक और कारा-खानिद सेनाओं को हराया।

1488 ऐनी को डचेस ऑफ ब्रिटेन बनाया गया इससे ब्रिटेन और फ्रांस एक हुए।

1493 ओटोमन साम्राज्य की सेना ने बैटलऑफ कार्बावा मैदान में क्रोएशियाई सेना को हराया।

1828 विश्व प्रतिष्ठित रूसी उपन्यासकार लियो टॉल्सटॉय का जन्म यासनाया, पोलिआना में हुआ। लेव तोलस्तोय उन्नीसवीं सदी के सर्वाधिक सम्मानित लेखकों में से एक हैं। उनका जन्म रूस के एक संपन्न अर्थात जमींदार परिवार में हुआ था। उन्होंने रूसी सेना में भर्ती होकर क्रीमियाई युद्ध में भाग लिया, एक साल बाद नौकरी छोड़ दी और शेष जीवन, चिंतन-मनन, समाज और सत्ता के चरित्र, कार्यशैली के अध्ययन तथा उस सब को रेंखाकित करते हुए लेखन किया।

1850 रोवहु सब मिलि के आवहु भारत भाई, हा! हा! भारत दुर्दशा न देखी जाई जैसी पंक्तियां लिखने वाले प्रसिद्ध हिंदी लेखक, कवि, आलोचक और नाटककार भारतेंदु हरिश्चंद्र का जन्म हुआ। कैलीफोर्निया अमेरिका का 31वां राज्य बना, 1850 में इसी दिन।

1858 विख्यात भौतिक विज्ञानी जॉर्ज मेरी सारले ने क्षुद्रग्रह 55 पॉनडोरा की खोज की।

1867 यूरोपीयीय देश लक्जमबर्ग ने स्वतंत्रता हासिल की।

1872 प्रमुख महिला सामाजिक, शैक्षिक, राजनीतिक कार्यकर्ता और 1910 में इलाहाबाद में भारत स्त्री महामंडल संगठन गठित करने वाली सरला देवी चौधरानी का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ।

1894 लंदन के टैक्सी ड्राइवर जॉर्ज स्मिथ पर पहली बार नशे में गाड़ी चलाने के जुर्म में जुर्माना लगाया गया। इसी दिन भोपाल रियासत के आखिरी नवाब हुए हमीदुल्ला खान का जन्म हुआ।

1905 जाने माने भारतीय दार्शनिक हुसैन शा का जन्म हुआ।

1907 हिंदी फिल्म जगत के अग्रणी निर्माता-निर्देशक महबूब खान का जन्म हुआ।

1908 आॅरविल राइट ने पहली बार एक घंटे तक विमान उड़ाया।

1909 प्रसिद्ध हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेत्री लीला चिटनिस जन्म धनबाद में हुआ। लीला चिटनिस भारतीय हिंदी फिल्म उद्योग में 1930 से 1980 के दशक तक सक्रिय रहने वाली प्रमुख फिल्म तथा माॅडल अभिनेत्री थीं। अपने शुरुआती वर्षों में उन्होंने एक रोमांटिक नायिका के रूप में अभिनय किया। उम्र ढलने के बाद प्रमुख फिल्मी सितारों की एक नेक और ईमानदार मां की पर्दे पर भूमिका निभाने के लिए सबसे ज्यादा याद किया जाता है।

1915 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रांतिकारी जतिंद्रनाथ सान्याल और अंग्रेजों के बीच उड़ीसा के काप्टेवाड़ा में संघर्ष हुआ।

1920 अलीगढ़ का एंग्लो ओरिएंटल कॉलेज का नाम बदलकर अलीगढ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय किया गया।

1939 नाजी सेना पौलेंड की राजधानी 9 सितंबर वारसा पहुंची। इसी दिन ब्रिटेन की औपनिवेशिक सरकार के विरोध में भूख हड़ताल के दौरान बर्मी राष्ट्रीय नायक यू ओट्टामा की जेल में मृत्यु हो गई।

1940 जॉर्ज स्टिबिट्ज ने कंप्यूटर का पहला रिमोट ऑपरेशन शुरू किया।

1942 प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार मणि मधुकर का जन्म हुआ।

1949 भारत की संविधान सभा ने हिंदी को राजभाषा के रूप में स्वीकार किया।

1965 तिब्बत चीन का स्वायत्त क्षेत्र बना। इसी दिन भारत के प्रमुख कारोबारी, प्रमुख कपड़ा ब्रांड रेमंड के संस्थापक विजयपत सिंहानिया के बेटे गौतम सिंहानिया का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने बुढ़ापे में बाप विजयपत को घर से निकाल दिया।

1967 युगांडा ब्रिटेन से आजाद हुआ। इसी दिन अक्षय कुमार के नाम से मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेता राजीव हरि ओम भाटिया का जन्म अमृतसर में हुआ।

1968 हिंदी के प्रसिद्ध उपन्यासकार, कहानीकार, निबंधकार, नाटककार, क्रांतिकारी, पत्रकार रामवृक्ष बेनीपुरी का निधन हुआ 1968 में इसी दिन अमेरिकी टेनिस खिलाड़ी आर्थर ऐश यूएस ओपन जीतने वाले पहले अश्वेत खिलाड़ी बने।

1971 कैदियों के आपस में भिड़ जाने की घटना को चार दिवसीय अटिका जेल दंगा। दंगे पर नियंत्रण करने के लिए पुलिस ने 39 कैदी गोलियों से भून डाले।

1972 केंटुकी के मैमथ केव नेशनल पार्क में एक केव रिसर्च फाउंडेशन और मानचित्रण टीम ने मैमथ और फ्लिंट रिज गुफा प्रणालियों के बीच एक लिंक की खोज की, जिसे दुनिया में सबसे लंबा ज्ञात गुफा मार्ग बताया गया।

1974 दूरदर्शन के मुकेश खन्ना निर्मित चर्चित धारावाहिक शक्तिमान में गीता विश्वास का किरदार निभाने वाली टेलीविजन और फिल्म अभिनेत्री वैष्णवी का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1976 चीन के महान जनवादी नेता, कवि, लेखक, संगठनकर्ता, प्रशासक माओ त्से तुंग का देहावसान हुआ एवं कुओ फेंग राष्ट्रपति बने।

1979 जोगेंद्र नाथ हजारिका ने मुख्यमंत्री का पदभार ग्रहण किया।

1981 कर्नाटक के बगलकोट में सविता हलप्पनवार का जन्म हुआ। पेशे से चिकित्सक सविता की आयरलैंड में गर्भपात कराने की कानूनी इजाजत न मिलने के कारण 28 अक्टूबर 2012 को मौत हो गई। पहले से खास परिस्थितयों में गर्भपात का कानूनी प्रावधान न होने के कारण जनता परेशान थी, अनेक बार मांग कर चुकी थी। सविता की मौत के बाद जनता ने जबरदस्त आंदोलन चलाया। इसके 2 साल बाद आयरिश सरकार को खास परिस्थियों में गर्भपात कराने का कानून बनाना पड़ा। 

1987 बंबई में जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल तोरल रासपुत्र का जन्म हुआ। तोरल कई प्रसिद्ध सफल टीवी शो में दिखाई दी हैं, लेकिन 2013 से 2016 तक कलर्स टीवी के बालिका वधू में आनंदी के रूप में अभिनय करने के लिए इनकी सबसे अच्छी पहचान है।

1991 लेक चार्ल्स, लुसियाना, अमेरिका में लॉरेन एशले डेगल का जन्म हुआ। डेगल लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी ईसाई संगीतज्ञ, गायिका और गीत लेखिका हैं। 2015 में अपना पहला एल्बम, हाउ कैन इट बी जारी किया। 1991 में इसी दिन लुसियाना के ब्रेआक्स में एक लोकप्रिय अमेरिकी गायक, संगीतज्ञ और गीतकार हंटर हायेस का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन तजाकिस्तान को सोवियत संघ से स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1998 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बिल क्लिंटन और मोनिका लेविंस्की प्रकरण पर स्वतंत्र वकील केनेथ स्टार ने अपनी बहुचर्चित जांच रिपोर्ट कांग्रेस यानी अमेरिकी संसद को सौंपी।

1999 भारत के महेश भूपति तथा जापान की आर्क सुगियामा की जोड़ी ने अमेरिकी ओपन का मिश्रित युगल ख्तिाब जीता।

2001 वीनस विलियम्स ने छोटी बहन सेरेना को ग्रैंडस्लैम फाइनल में हराया। 2001 में इसी दिन उत्तरी गठबंधन के नेता अहमद शाह मसूद की अफगानिस्तान में अल-कायदा के दो हत्यारों ने हत्या कर दी। यह हत्यारे खुद को अरब के पत्रकार बताकर मसूद का साक्षात्कार करने का बहाना बना कर उनके पास गये थे।

2002 पीट संप्रास ने आंद्रे अगासी को हराकर अमेरिकी ओपन टेनिस ख्तिाब जीता।

2004 फिलिस्तीन के प्रधानमंत्री अहमद कुरेई ने अपने पद से इस्तीफा दिया।

2005 चीन, बीजिंग स्थित छाओयांग पार्क में महात्मा गांधी की प्रतिमा का अनावरण हुआ।

2006 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दबाव के मद्देनजर इस्रायल द्वारा आठ सप्ताह से की गयी लेबनान की नौसैनिक घेराबंदी गई। 2006 में इसी दिन अमेरिकी राज्य फ्लोरिडा के केप कनैवरल स्पेस सेंटर से अंतरिक्ष यान अटलांटिस ने अंतरिक्ष के लिए उड़ान भरी।

2007 वेनिस फिल्म फेस्टिवल में हॉलीवुड एक्टर ब्रैड पिट को बेस्ट एक्टर का तथा केट ब्लैंशट को बेस्ट एक्ट्रेस का अवार्ड प्रदान किया गया।

2008 भारत के उच्चतम न्यायालय ने केंद्रीय जांच ब्यूरो को पंजाब और हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय के दो जजों निर्मल यादव और निर्मल जीत कौर से 15 लाख रुपये के घूसकांड में पूछताछ की इजाजत दी। इसी दिन 2008 में यशस्वी साहित्यकार तथा लोकवार्ताकार डॉ. अर्जुनदास केशरी को साहित्य महोपाध्याय अलंकरण प्रदान करने की घोषणा की गई।
