420 30 सितंबर 420 को बेथलहम, पैलेस्टाइना, प्राइमा के पास जेरोम की मृत्यु हो गई। 30 सितंबर को बाइबिल अनुवादक सेंट जेरोम का पर्व मनाया जाता है, साथ ही संयुक्त राष्ट्र की अगुवाई में संत जेरोम की याद में स्थापित अंतरराष्ट्रीय अनुवाद दिवस मनाया जाता है। जेरोम को अनुवादकों का संरक्षक संत माना जाता है। सेंट जेरोम उत्तर-पूर्वी इटली के एक पुजारी थे, जो ज्यादातर बाइबिल के नए नियम की ग्रीक पांडुलिपियों से लैटिन में अनुवाद करने के अपने प्रयास के लिए जाने जाते हैं। उन्होंने हिब्रू गॉस्पेल के कुछ हिस्सों का ग्रीक में अनुवाद भी किया। वह इलियरियन वंश के थे और उसकी मूल भाषा इलियरियन बोली थी। उन्होंने स्कूल में लैटिन भाषा सीखी और ग्रीक तथा हिब्रू भाषा में पांडित्य हासिल किया। उन्होंने अपनी पढ़ाई और यात्राओं से भी भाषायी ज्ञान अर्जित किया था। ज्ञान के वैश्विक प्रचार-प्रसार, एक दूसरे से संवाद और अपनी बात को विविध भाषा-भाषियों तक पहुंचाने में अनुवाद की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है, इसलिए अनुवाद और अनुवादकों के सम्मान, सहयोग और समर्थन को यह दिन समर्पित है।

489 थियोडेरिक द ग्रेट के तहत ओस्ट्रोगोथ्स ने ओडोएसर की सेना को दूसरी बार हराया। ओस्ट्रोगोथ्स रोमन युग के जर्मनिक लोग थे। 5वीं शताब्दी में उन्होंने रोमन साम्राज्य के भीतर दो महान गोथिक साम्राज्यों में से एक बनाने में विसिगोथ का अनुसरण किया, जो कि बड़ी गोथिक आबादी पर आधारित था, जो 4थी शताब्दी में निचले डेन्यूब को पार करके बाल्कन में बस गए थे। ओडोएसर, जिसे ओडोवेसर या ओडोवाकर भी कहा जाता है, मध्य डेन्यूब का एक बर्बर सैनिक और राजनेता था जिसने पश्चिमी रोमन बाल सम्राट रोमुलस ऑगस्टुलस को पदच्युत कर दिया और इटली का शासक बन गया। ओडोएसर द्वारा रोमुलस ऑगस्टुलस को उखाड़ फेंकने को पारंपरिक रूप से पश्चिमी रोमन साम्राज्य के अंत के रूप में देखा जाता है।

1139 सेल्जुक साम्राज्य में काकेशस पहाड़ों पर 7.7 तीव्रता का विनाशकारी भूकंप आया, जिससे बड़े पैमाने पर विनाश हुआ और 3 लाख से अधिक लोग मारे गए।

1207 अफगानिस्तान के बाल्ख में जलाल अल-दीन मुहम्मद रूमी जो केवल रूमी नाम से ज्यादा जाने जाते हैं, का जन्म हुआ। रूमी 13वीं सदी के कवि, हनाफी फकीह, इस्लामी विद्वान, मटुरिदी धर्मशास्त्री और सूफी फकीर थे। यह ग्रेटर ईरान के ग्रेटर खुरासान अधिकांश समय रहे। रूमी ने अपनी अधिकतर रचनाएँ अधिकतर फारसी में लिखीं, कविता में तुर्की, अरबी और ग्रीक का भी इस्तेमाल किया।

1541 स्पेनिश विजेता हर्नांडो डी सोटो और उनकी सेना ने वर्तमान पश्चिमी अरकंसास में तुला क्षेत्र में प्रवेश किया, और उन्हें भयंकर स्थानीय जन प्रतिरोध का सामना करना पड़ा।

1149 राजस्थान के एक राजा पृथ्वीराज चौहान का महिमा मंडन करने वाले प्रसिद्ध बृजभाषी दरबारी कवि, पृथ्वी राज रासो के रचयिता चंद बरदाई का जन्म हुआ।

1551 जापान के उची कबीले के सैन्य प्रतिष्ठान ने अपने स्वामी और सत्ता प्रमुख को सत्ताच्युत करने के लिए दबाव बढ़ाया, शहर में आग लगा दी जिससे बदहवाश स्वामी ने आत्महत्या कर ली।

1398 तैमूर लंग सिंधु नदी तट पर पहुंचा। विकीपीडिया के अनुसार तैमूर को तिमूर लिखा जाता है अंग्रेजी में। वह चौदहवी शताब्दी का एक शासक था जिसने तैमूरी राजवंश की स्थापना की थी। उसका राज्य पश्चिम एशिया से मध्य एशिया होते हुए भारत तक फैला था। वह बरलस तुर्क खानदान में पैदा हुआ था। उसका पिता तुरगाई बरलस तुर्कों का नेता था। तैमूर ने अपनी यात्रा समरकंद से शुरू की। उसने 30 सितंबर, 1398 को सिंधु नदी पार करके उत्तर भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप (वर्तमान पाकिस्तान और उत्तर भारत) पर आक्रमण किया। अक्टूबर 1398 तक तिमुरिड सेना ने पहले तुलंबा और फिर मुल्तान सल्तनत को बर्खास्त कर कब्जा किया।

1681 भारत में बैकिंग की शुरुआत करने वाले तमिलनाडु में चेट्टीनाड के राजा, शिक्षा प्रसारक, उद्योगपति और अन्नामलाई विश्वविद्यालय के संस्थापक सतप्पा रामनाथ मुथैया अन्नामलाई चेट्टियार दीवान बहादुर सर का जन्म कनाडुकठन में हुआ। इसी दिन नीदरलैंड एवं स्वीडन ने शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

1687 मुगल बादशाह मुहिउद्दी मोहम्मद औरंगजेब ने हैदराबाद के गोलकोंडा के किले पर कब्जा किया।

1955 हॉलीवुड के मशहूर अभिनेता जेम्स डीन की एक सड़क हादसे में मृत्यु हुई।

1958 पंजाब एवं हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय में जज तथा मध्य प्रदेश और मेघालय उच्च न्यायालयों में मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे अजय कुमार मित्तल का जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआ । इसी दिन फ्रेंच गुयाना आजाद होकर गुयाना गणराज्य बना।

1962 बहुचर्चित, बहुप्रतिभासंपन्न बंगाली फिल्म अभिनेता प्रोसेनजीत चटर्जी का जन्म हुआ। यह एक दौर के विख्यात बाॅलीवुड अभिनेता विश्वजीत चटर्जी के बेटे हैं।

1965 30 सितंबर आंदोलन के दौरान छह इंडोनेशियाई सैन्य जनरलों की हत्या कर दी गई। बाद में इसका आरोप वामपंथी संगठन पर लगाया गया और हजारों की संख्या में वामपंथी मार डाले गये।

1966 दक्षिण अफ्रीका के ब्रिटिश संरक्षित राज्य बेचुआनालैंड ने स्वतंत्रता की घोषणा की और बोत्सवाना गणतंत्र बना।

1993 महाराष्ट्र के औरंगाबाद जिले के लातूर और उस्मानाबाद में आए जबरदस्त भूकंप के कारण 10,000 हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गए एवं लाखों बेघर हो गए।

1994 कवियित्री एवं लेखिका सुमित्रा कुमारी सिन्हा का निधन हुआ।

Jerome is considered the patron saint of translators. 1398 Taimur Lang reached the banks of Indus River. According to Wikipedia, Taimur is written as Timur in English. He was a fourteenth-century ruler who founded the Timurid dynasty. His kingdom extended from West Asia through Central Asia to India. He was born in a Barlas Turk family. His father Turgai Barlas was the leader of the Turks. Timur started his journey from Samarkand. He crossed the Indus River on September 30, 1398 and invaded the North Indian subcontinent (present-day Pakistan and North India). By October 1398, the Timurid army sacked and captured first Tulamba and then the Sultanate of Multan.
