15 इस्वी में 24 अप्रैल को रोम में औलस विटेलियस का जन्म हुआ। विटेलियस 19 अप्रैल से 20 दिसंबर ईस्वी 69 तक आठ महीने के लिए रोमन सम्राट था।

366 पोप लाइबेरियस का निधन हुआ। 17 मई 352 से अपनी मृत्यु तक रोम के बिशप थे। कैटलॉग लाइबेरियानस के अनुसार, उन्हें 22 मई को जूलियस प्रथम के उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित किया गया था। रोमन मार्टिरोलॉजी में उनका उल्लेख संत के रूप में नहीं किया गया है। यह कैथोलिक चर्च में संत के रूप में सम्मानित नहीं किए जाने वाले सबसे पहले पोप थे।

622 इस्लामिक पैगंबर मोहम्मद और उनके अनुयायियों ने धार्मिक उत्पीड़न से बचने के लिए मक्का मीना से अपना हिजरा पूर्ण किया।

787 निकिया की दूसरी परिषद को पूर्वी रूढ़िवादी चर्च और कैथोलिक चर्च द्वारा पहली सात विश्वव्यापी परिषदों में से अंतिम के रूप में मान्यता दी गई थी। इसे पुराने कैथोलिक, एंग्लिकन कम्युनियन और अन्य लोगों द्वारा भी मान्यता मिली। इसकी बैठक 787 ई. में 24 सितंबर नाइकेआ (नाइकेआ की पहली परिषद की साइट वर्तमान इजनिक, बर्सा, तुर्की में) में हुई थी, ताकि प्रतीकों (या पवित्र छवियों) के उपयोग और सम्मान को बहाल किया जा सके, जिसे शाही शासन ने लियो तृतीय (717-741) के शासनकाल में बीजान्टिन साम्राज्य के आदेश द्वारा दबा दिया गया था। लियो तृतीय कॉन्स्टेंटाइन पांचवें ने (741-775) ने दमन को आधिकारिक बनाने के लिए हिएरिया की परिषद गठित की थी।

1180 बीजेंटाइन यानी पूर्वी रोमन साम्राज्य का सम्राट इमैनुएल प्रथम कोम्नोसो की मौत के बाद पतन हुआ। इसकी राजधानी कोस्तांतिनोपल यानी वर्तमान का इस्तांबूल (तुर्की की वाणिज्यिक राजधानी) थी।

1493 विश्व विख्यात और कुख्यात इतालवी नाविक, खोजी और यात्री क्रिस्टोफर कोलंबस ने नई दुनिया की खोज के लिए दूसरा अभियान शुरू किया। पहले अभियान में उन्होंने 1492 में अमेरिका खोजा था।

1547 मुगल शहंशाह अकबर के प्रमुख दरबारी और मशहूर शायर फ़ैजी यानी अबु अल फ़ैज इब्न मुबारक का जन्म आगरा में हुआ।

1629 मेवाड़ राजघराने में राज सिंह प्रथम का जन्म हुआ। राजा जगत सिंह के बेटे राज सिंह बाद में मेवाड़ के राजा हुए।

1688 फ्रांस ने जर्मनी के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की।

1726 ब्रिटेन की ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी को बंबई, कलकत्ता और मद्रास में नगर निगम और महापौर तथा अदालत स्थापित करने का अधिकार मिला।

1789 अमेरिकी महान्यायवादी यानी अटॉर्नी जनरल का कार्यालय बनाया गया। प्रथम यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स कांग्रेस ने इसी दिन न्यायपालिका अधिनियम 1789 पारित किया, अमेरिकी संघीय न्यायपालिका की स्थापना की और सर्वोच्च न्यायिक न्यायाधीशों की संख्या निर्धारित की।

1805 फ्रांस के योद्धा और तानशाह नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट की सैनिक कार्रवाई समाप्त हुई। यह कार्रवाई ऑस्ट्रिया के आक्रमण का सामना करने के लिए की गयी थी जिसमें फ्रांस की बड़ी जीत हुई।

1853 लंदन में पहले प्रादेशिक दैनिक समाचार पत्र नार्दर्न डेली टाइम्स का प्रकाशन प्रारंभ हुआ।

1856 हिंदी खड़ी बोली और भारतेंदु युग के उन्नायक प्रताप नारायण मिश्र का जन्म हुआ।

1861 प्रख्यात स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और महिला अधिकार कार्यकर्ता भीकाजी कामा का जन्म हुआ। श्रीमती भीखाजी जी रूस्तम कामा भारतीय मूल की पारसी नागरिक थीं जिन्होने लंदन, जर्मनी तथा अमेरिका का भ्रमण कर भारत की स्वतंत्रता के पक्ष में लोगों से सहमति बनाई। वे जर्मनी के स्टुटगार्ट नगर में 22 अगस्त 1907 में हुई सातवीं अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सोशलिस्ट कांग्रेस में भारत का प्रथम तिरंगा राष्ट्रध्वज फहराने के लिए खासतौर जानी जाती हैं।

1887 ब्रिटिश भारतीय अधिकारी, भारत में गवर्नर जनरल रहे कंजरवेटिव पार्टी नेता, कृषि विशेषज्ञ विक्टर एलेक्जेंडर जाॅन होप का जन्म क्वींसफरी, इंग्लैंड में हुआ।

1895 एनी लॉन डॉनडेरी साइकिल से संसार घूमने वाली विश्व की पहली महिला बनीं।

1922 जाने माने हिंदी एवं बांग्ला फिल्मकार, पटकथाकार और सिनेमाटोग्राफर असित सेन का जन्म ढाका में हुआ। इसी दिन प्रख्यात अमेरिकी संगीतशास्त्री फ्लोयड लेविन का जन्म हुआ।

1925 चिकित्सा वैज्ञानिक औतार सिंग पैंटल का जन्म हुआ।

1932 दलितों के अधिकारों के लिए सर्वाधिक संघर्ष करने वाले बाबा साहेब डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर और महात्मा गांधी के बीच पुणे की यरवदा केंद्रीय जेल में दलितों’ के लिए विधानसभाओं में सीटें सुरक्षित करने को लेकर एक विशेष समझौता हुआ।

1932 प्रख्यात महिला क्रांतिकारी राष्ट्रवादी प्रीतिलता वाडेदार देश की आजादी के लिए प्राण न्यौछावर करने वाली पहली महिला बनी। बंगाल की इस वीरांगना ने अंग्रेजों की पकड़ में आने से बचने के लिए जहर खाकर आत्महत्या कर ली थी।

1940 प्रसिद्ध महिला तैराक आरती साहा का जन्म हुआ।

1948 सुइचिरो होंडा और टेकियो फुजीसावा ने हामामात्सु, शिजूका, जापान में होंडा मोटर कंपनी की स्थापना की।

1950 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी मोहिंदर अमरनाथ का जन्म पटियाला में हुआ।

1957 सुप्रीम कोर्ट में जज हुईं इंदिरा बनर्जी का जन्म हुआ।

1958 कलकत्ता में खूबसूरत, लोकप्रिय, बोल्ड, बहुप्रतिभासंपन्न, बांग्ला फिल्मों की सफलतम अभिनेत्रियों में से एक महुआ रॉय चैधरी का जन्म हुआ। महुआ को फिल्मफेयर पुरस्कार सहित कई पुरस्कार, सम्मान मिले

1962 हरियाणा से प्रमुख कांग्रेस नेत्री, केंद्र की मनमोहन सिंह सरकार में सामाजिक न्याय और अधिकारिता मंत्री रहीं सेल्जा कुमारी का जन्म चंडीगढ़ में हुआ। इसी दिन इलाहाबाद और गुजरात हाईकोर्ट के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रहे तथा बाद में सुप्रीम कोर्ट में न्यायाधीश रहे विक्रम नाथ का जन्म कौशांबी, गाजियाबाद में हुआ।

1963 जाने माने टेलीविजन पत्रकार पंकज पचैरी का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन बार्सिलोना का कैंप नोउ, यूरोप में 99,354 बैठने की क्षमता वाला सबसे बड़ा स्टेडियम बना।

1964 वॉरेन कमीशन ने अपनी रिपोर्ट जारी की, जिसमें निष्कर्ष निकाला गया कि ली हार्वे ओसवाल्ड अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जॉन एफ. केनेडी की हत्या का एक मात्र दोषी वही था।

1965 यमन को लेकर सऊदी अरब और मिस्र के बीच समझौता हुआ।

2004 भारतीय परमाणु वैज्ञानिक, भारत के परमाणु कार्यक्रम के विकास में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका अदा करने वाले राजा रमन्ना का निधन हुआ।

2005 अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा अभिकरण यानी आई.ए.ई.ए. ने ईरान के परमाणु कार्यक्रम के मुद्दे को सुरक्षा परिषद को सौंपने का निर्णय लिया।

2021 दिल्ली के रोहिणी जिले के रोहिणी कोर्ट नं. में हुई गैंगवार की वारदात में पेशी के लिए लाए ग ए कुख्यात बदमाश जितेंद्र उर्फ गोगी को कोर्ट परिसर में वकील की ड्रेस पहने हुए आए दो लोगों ने उस पर ताबड़तोड़ गोलियां चला कर हत्या कर दी। जवाबी कार्रवाई में पुलिस की स्पेशल सेल की तरफ से भी गोलियां चलाई गईं, जिसमें दोनों हमलावरों की मौत हो गई। घटनास्थल कोर्ट परिसर में इस तरह वारदात में गैंगस्टर गोगी समेत तीन लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2022 लास एंजेल्स, कैलीफोर्निया, अमेरिका में प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी जैज सैक्सोफोनिस्ट फरोहा सैंडर्स का निधन हुआ। फरोहा सैक्सोफोन पर अपनी ओवरब्लोइंग, हार्मोनिक और मल्टीफोनिक तकनीकों के साथ-साथ शीट ऑफ साउंड के उपयोग के लिए मशहूर हैं।

366 Pope Liberius dies. Was Bishop of Rome from 17 May 352 until his death. According to the Catalog Liberianus, he was consecrated successor to Julius I on 22 May. He is not mentioned as a saint in the Roman Martyrology. He was the first Pope not to be honored as a saint in the Catholic Church.

622 Islamic Prophet Muhammad and his followers completed their Hijrah from Mecca Mina to escape religious persecution.

787 The Second Council of Nicaea was recognized by the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church as the last of the first seven ecumenical councils. It is also recognized by the Old Catholics, the Anglican Communion, and others. It met in 787 AD on 24 September at Nicaea (site of the First Council of Nicaea in present-day Iznik, Bursa, Turkey) to restore the use and veneration of icons (or sacred images), which the imperial regime had prohibited under Leo.
