19 ईसा पूर्व 21 सितंबर को ब्रिंडिसी, इटली में पब्लियस वर्जिलियस मारो (अंग्रेजी में वर्जिल या वर्गिल) का निधन हुआ। ऑगस्टान काल के एक प्राचीन रोमन कवि वर्जिल ने लैटिन साहित्य में तीन सबसे प्रसिद्ध कविताओं इकोलॉग्स, जॉर्जिक्स और महाकाव्य एनीड की रचना की।

455 सम्राट एविटस (चौथी शताब्दी के गैलिक मूल के सीनेटर, नागरिक और सैन्य प्रशासन दोनों में एक उच्च पदस्थ अधिकारी एवं पियासेंजा के बिशप) ने गैलिक सेना के साथ रोम में प्रवेश किया और अपनी शक्ति को मजबूत किया।

1217 लिवोनियन धर्मयुद्ध में एस्टोनियाई नेता लेंबिटु और लिवोनियन नेता कौपो द शापित सेंट मैथ्यू डे की लड़ाई में मारे गए।

1621 इंग्लैंड के राजा जेम्स प्रथम ने सर एलेक्जेंडर स्टरलिंग को नोवा स्कॉशिया या नोवा स्कोटिया उपनिपेशीकरण का अधिकार पत्र दिया था। यह खूबसूरत क्षेत्र प्राकृतिक संपदा से परिपूर्ण है। नोवा स्कोटिया कनाडा के तेरह प्रांतों और क्षेत्रों में से एक है। यह तीन समुद्री प्रांतों में से एक और चार अटलांटिक प्रांतों में से एक है। नोवा स्कोटिया को न्यू स्कॉटलैंड भी कहा जाता है। नोवा स्कोटिया या नोवा स्कॉशिया लैटिन नाम है। अधिकांश जनसंख्या मूल अंग्रेजी भाषी है। 2021 की जनगणना के अनुसार नोवा स्कोटिया की जनसंख्या 969,383 है। ब्रिटेन के उपनिवेश रहे कनाडा से भारत तक ब्रिटिश काॅमनवेल्थ का हिस्सा आज भी हैं। उनमें कनाडा भी है।

1677 नीदरलैंड के जॉन और निकोल्स वान डर हेडेन ने अग्निशामक यंत्र के लिए पेटेंट हासिल किया।

1743 जहांगीर, शाहजहां और औरंगजेब के वजीर रहे आमेर के राजा सवाई जयसिंह का निधन हुआ।

1776 अमेरिकी स्वतंत्रता के क्रांतिकारी युद्ध में न्यूयॉर्क शहर में ब्रिटिश कब्जे के खिलाफ तोड़ - फोड़ की गई, ब्रिटिश इमारतों को आग लगाकर करीब एक हजार इमारतों को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया गया।

1784 अमेरिका का पहला दैनिक अखबार पेनसिलवेनिया पैकेट एंड जनरल एडवरटाइजर छपा।

1790 केरल की राजशाही पालघाट ने अंग्रेज जनरल मेडोव के नेतृत्व वाले ब्रिटिश सैन्य दस्ते के समक्ष 60 बंदूकों के साथ आत्मसमर्पण किया।

1815 किंग विलियम प्रथम ने ब्रुसेल्स में शपथ ली।

1857 भारत के आखिरी मुगल बादशाह बहादुर शाह जफर 21 सितंबर कों अंग्रेजों के हत्थे चढ़ गये। मुस्लिमों से नफरत करने वाली विचारधारा के लोग इसे ज़फ़र का आत्मसमर्पण कहते हैं। लेकिन ज़फ़र ने आत्मसमर्पण नहीं किया था। उन्हें घेरकर पकड़ लिया गया, यह आश्वासन देकर कि उन्होंने हथियार त्याग दिए तो उनका जीवन बख्श दिया जाएगा। ज़फ़र के दो बेटों शाही सेना के प्रमुख मिर्जा मुगल, मिर्जा खिज्र सुल्तान और मिर्जा मुगल के बेटे मिर्जा अबूबक्र ज़फ़र को कैप्टन विलियम हडसन ने खुद गोलियों से उड़ा दिया। अपनी सफलता के नमूने के तौर पर अंग्रेज सरकार ने लोगों के दर्शनार्थ बेबस हालत में रखा। मुगल घराने के अन्य शहजादों और तमाम वफादार कारिंदों को अंग्रेजों ने बहशीपनें की सीमाएं तोड़कर बुरी तरह मारा। शहजादों के शव खुले में चांदनी चौक के एक चौराहे पर फेंक दिए गये जो 24 सितंबर तक पड़े रहे और बाद में बेहद अपमानजनक तरीके से उन्हें दफनाया गया।

1860 दूसरे अफीम युद्ध में ब्रिटिश, फ्रांसीसी सेना ने चीन में किंग वंश के सैनिकों को हराया और राजधानी बीजिंग पर कब्जा किया।

1862 तेलुगू के प्रमुख नाटककार, लेखक, कवि गुरुजादा वेंकट अप्पाराव का जन्म विशाखापट्टनम में हुआ।

1866 विश्वविख्यात विज्ञान कथा लेखक एवं इतिहासकार एचजी वेल्स (हर्बर्ट जॉर्ज वेल्ज) का जन्म हुआ।

1883 अमेरिका एवं ब्राजील के मध्य तार यानी टेलीग्राफ सेवा शुरू हुई।

1885 नीदरलैंड के लोगों ने चुनावों में मतदान के अधिकार के लिये प्रदर्शन किया।

1895 प्रख्यात हिंदी शिष्ट हास्य लेखक, कलाकार अन्नपूर्णानंद का जन्म हुआ।

1897 न्यूयॉर्क के प्रमुख समाचार पत्र द न्यू सन ने फ्रांसिस फैरसेलस चर्च के एक विचार को प्रकाशित किया, जिसमें कहा गया था, हां, वर्जीनिया, एक सांता क्लॉज है। यह संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में लोकप्रिय क्रिसमस का एक प्रमुख विषय बन गया।

1905 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, राजनेता और 1948 से 1954 तक सौराष्ट्र राज्य के मुख्यमन्त्री रहे उच्छंगराय नवलशंकर ढेबर का जन्म हुआ। इसी दिन अमेरिका के अटलांटा में अटलांटा लाइफ इंश्योरेंस कंपनी गठित हुई।

1906 21 सितंबर को वर्ल्ड अल्जाइमर्स डे मनाया जाता है। अल्जाइमर्स में दिमाग में होने वाली नर्व सेल्स के बीच होने वाला कनेक्शन कमजोर हो जाता है। धीरे-धीरे यह रोग दिमाग के विकार का रूप लेता है और याददाश्त को खत्म करता है। व्यक्ति सोचना भी बंद कर देता है और रोजाना के कामकाज करने में भी कठिनाई आने लगती है। अल्जाइमर मुख्य रूप से डिमेंशिया का ही एक रूप है। इससे पीड़ित लोगों को भूलने की आदत हो जाती है। इस वजह से वे 1-2 मिनट पहले हुई बात को भी भूल जाते हैं। 1906 में डॉ. एलोइस अल्जाइमर ने इस रोग के बारे में पता लगाया था, इस वजह से इस बीमारी को उन्हीं के नाम पर जाना जाता है। उन्होंने मानसिक रोग से पीड़ित एक महिला के दिमाग में कोशिकाओं में बदलाव नोटिस किया था। महिला के दिमाग के अध्ययन में पाया कि उसमें कुछ गांठ पड़ गई हैं। इसकी शुरुआत किसी आम समस्या की तरह होती है, लेकिन धीरे-धीरे ये गंभीर रूप ले लेती है। सामान्यतः अल्जाइमर वृद्धावस्था में होता है। यह 60 साल से अधिक उम्र के लोगों को ज्यादा प्रभावित करता है। बहुत ही कम संख्या में 30 या 40 की उम्र में लोगों को ये बीमारी होती है। एक ओर पुरुषों में जहां 60 वर्ष की अवस्था में अल्जाइमर की शिकायत शुरू होती है, वहीं महिलाओं में इसके लक्षण 45 वर्ष की अवस्था में दिखते हैं।

1914 स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, राजनीतिज्ञ और बिहार के आठवें मुख्यमंत्री तथा 3 बार मुख्यमंत्री रहे भोला पासवान शास्त्री का जन्म हुआ।

1921 जर्मनी के ओपाउ में एक रासायनिक उत्पाद संयंत्र में अमोनियमसल्फेट और अमोनियम नाइट्रेट के मिश्रण में विस्फोट हो गया, गैस से करीब आठ सौ लोग मारे गए और हजारों बीमार हुए।

1926 लोकप्रिय अभिनेत्री और गायिका नूरजहाँ का जन्म हुआ जिन्होंने भारतीय और पाकिस्तानी सिनेमा में कार्य किया। इन्हें पाकिस्तान की लता मंगेशकर भी कहा जाता है।

1928 अमेरिका में बच्चों के लिए रुचिकर सामग्री से भरपूर माय विकली रीडर मैगजीन की शुरुआत हुई। यह पत्रिका विश्व स्तर पर बच्चों में लोकप्रिय हुई।

1921 जर्मनी के ओपू में एक केमिकल प्लांट में धमाके में 800 लोगों की मौत।

1934 जापान के होंसू द्वीप पर आए भयंकर तूफान से 4000 लोगों की मौत हुई।

1938 चक्रवाती तूफान (183 मील प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार) से न्यू इंगलैंड में 700 लोग मारे गये।

1939 रोमानिया के प्रधानमंत्री आर्मंड कैलिंसकु की हत्या हिटलर की नात्सी पार्टी के सदस्यों ने की।

1942 हिटलर के अनुयायी/ हत्यारे दस्तों ने सोवियत संघ के यूक्रेन, डुनेवट्सी में 2588 यहूदियों की हत्या की। इसी दिन 1942 में प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी बमवर्षक सुपर फास्ट विमान बोइंग बी-29 ने अपनी पहली उड़ान भरी।

1949 15 अगस्त 1947 को ब्रिटिश राज खत्म होने से कुछ दिन पहले ही मणिपुर के राजा ने 11 अगस्त को भारत का शासन स्वीकार कर लिया था, पर राज्य ने अंदरूनी संप्रभुता हासिल कर ली थी। मणिपुर स्टेट कांस्टीट्यूशन एक्ट 1947 लागू हुआ, जिससे राज्य को अपना अलग संविधान मिला। मणिपुर में कई लोग भारत में विलय चाहते थे। मणिपुर इंडिया कांग्रेस भी बनी। भारत सरकार ने अलग संविधान को मान्यता नहीं दी और भारत में मणिपुर के विलय का दबाव बनाते रहे। महाराजा पर दबाव बना और उन्होंने 21 सितंबर 1949 को भारत सरकार के साथ मर्जर एग्रीमेंट साइन किया। यह एग्रीमेंट 15 अक्टूबर को लागू हुआ। कई सालों तक केंद्र का सीधा शासन यहां रहा, लेकिन 1972 में मणिपुर को भारत में अलग राज्य का दर्जा मिला।

1955 चार सौ से अधिक फिल्मों में अभिनय करने वाले, बुरा आदमी कहे गये प्रसिद्ध खलनायक, चरित्र अभिनेता और फिल्म निर्माता गुलशन ग्रोवर का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1949 माओ त्से तुंग की अगुवाई में सफल समाजवादी क्रांति के बाद चीन में कम्युनिस्ट नेताओं ने पीपुल्स रिपब्लिक ऑफ चाइना पार्टी की घोषणा की जो चीन की सबसे बड़ी राजनीतिक पार्टी है।

1950 अमेरिका में हिंदुत्वादी प्रचार प्रसार में संलग्न, ज्योतिषी और लेखक डेविड फ्रेव्ली का जन्म विंस्कोसिन, अमेरिका में हुआ।

1951 सतपाल महाराज के नाम से सुपरिचित पहले कांग्रेस और अब भाजपा के नेता, वर्तमान में उत्तराखंड में मंत्री और एक धार्मिक संगठन/मत चलाने वाले सतपाल सिंह रावत का जन्म हरिद्वार में हुआ।

1961 अमेरिका में बने बोइंग सीएच-47 चिनूक ने पहली बार उड़ान भरी। इसका इस्तेमाल इराक और अफगानिस्तान के युद्धों में बड़े पैमाने पर अमेरिकी फौजों ने किया।

1963 वेस्टइंडीज के दिग्गज तेज गेंदबाज कर्टली एंब्रोस का जन्म हुआ। इन्होंने अपने करियर में 98 टेस्ट में 405 और 176 वनडे मैचों में 225 विकेट लिए।

1964 माल्टा ने ब्रिटेन से स्वतंत्रता हासिल की।

1965 अमेरिकी डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी की नेता और अमेरिकी संसद की सदस्य रहीं प्रमिला जयपाल का जन्म मद्रास, भारत में हुआ।

1966 प्रसिद्ध भारतीय तैराक मिहिर सेन ने बास्फोरस की खाड़ी को पार करके तैराकी का एक और कीर्तिमान अपने नाम किया।

1970 प्रसिद्ध आयरिश-अमेरिकी पत्रकार, अकादमिक और राजनयिक, जो बिडेन सरकार द्वारा नियुक्त यूनाइटेड स्टेट्स एजेंसी फार इंटरनेशनल डेवेलपमेंट की प्रशासक, पूर्व संयुक्त राष्ट्र में 28वीं संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की राजदूत हुईं सामंथा पावर का जन्म लंदन में हुआ।

1971 ब्रिटेन की शाही वायु सेना का एक विमान कैंब्रिजशर शहर में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया. जिसमें एक पुरुष और दो लड़कों की मौत हो गई.

1975 पहले आम आदमी पार्टी की प्रमुख नेता रहीं अब कांग्रेस नेत्री अल्का लांबा का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1976 ऑरलैंडो लेटेलियर की वाशिंगटन, डी.सी. में हत्या कर दी गई क्योंकि वह पूर्व चिली मार्क्सवादी सरकार के सदस्य थे। मार्कोस ऑरलैंडो लेटेलियर डेल सोलर साल्वाडोर अलांदे के राष्ट्रपति काल के दौरान चिली के अर्थशास्त्री, राजनीतिज्ञ और राजनयिक थे। अमेरिका समर्थित जनरल ऑगस्टो पिनोशे की सैन्य तख्तापलट और अलांदे की हत्या के बाद लेटेलियर ने चिली से अपने निर्वासन के बाद वाशिंगटन, डी.सी. में शरण ली। वे यहां कई शैक्षणिक कार्य कर रहे थे।

1979 मध्य अफ्रीकी गणराज्य के तानाशाह सम्राट बोकासा सैनिक क्रांति में अपदस्थ किए गये।

1980 बाॅलिवुड की खूबसूरत, बोल्ड, बहुत मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल करीना कपूर का जन्म हुआ।

1981 मशहूर फिल्म अभिनेत्री और फिल्म निर्मात्री रिमी सेन का जन्म कलकत्ता में हुआ। 21 सितंबर को संयुक्त राष्ट्र की अगुवाई में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय शांति दिवस दुनिया भर में मनाया जाता है। इसकी स्थापना 1981 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा की गई थी। दो दशक बाद, 2001 में, महासभा ने सर्वसम्मति से इस दिन को अहिंसा और युद्धविराम की अवधि के रूप में नामित करने के लिए मतदान किया।

1982 संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने शांति का पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दिवस 21 सितंबर को घोषित किया।

1984 ब्रुनेई संयुक्त राष्ट्र में शामिल हुआ।

1985 विख्यात भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी, पत्रकार, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता तथा सांसद रहे अमरनाथ विद्यालंकार का निधन हुआ।

1990 लोकप्रिय खूबसूरत, बोल्ड टेलीविजन अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल मानसी श्रीवास्तव का जन्म हुआ।

1991 अर्मेनिया को सोवियत संघ से स्वतंत्रता मिली।

1997 फिनलैंड के तिर्वा में 16वीं शताब्दी में निर्मित एक पत्थर के चर्च सेंट ओलाफ चर्च में एक चोर आग लगा कर खाक कर दिया।

1998 अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति बिल क्लिंटन और उनकी अधिनस्थ कर्मचारी, व्हाइट हाउस इंटर्न मोनिका लेविंस्की के प्रेम प्रकरण से संबंधित वीडियो टेप जारी हुए।

1999 मध्य ताइवान में ची-ची भूकंप से 2400 लोगों की मृत्यु।

2000 भारत एवं ब्रिटेन के बीच बेहतर संबंध के लिए लिबरल डेमोक्रेटिक फ्रेंड्स आफ इंडिया सोसायटी की स्थापना हुई।

2001 अफगानिस्तान में सत्तारूढ़ तालिबान शासन और विरोधी नार्दन एलाएंस में युद्ध प्रारंभ हुआ। इसी दिन श्रद्धांजलि का एक टेलीविजन प्रोग्राम अमेरिका ए ट्रिब्यूट टू हीरोज को 35 से अधिक नेटवर्क और केबल चैनलों द्वारा प्रसारित किया गया, जिससे 11 सितंबर के हमलों के पीड़ितों के लिए 200 मिलियन डॉलर से अधिक जुटाए गए।

2003 संवैधानिक संशोधनों के नये मसौदे को भी पाकिस्तान के विपक्ष ने नामंजूर किया।

2004 अमेरिका ने लीबिया से आर्थिक प्रतिबंध हटाया।

2005 जूनिचिरो कोईजुमी को दुबारा जापान का प्रधानमंत्री चुना गया।

2007 तंजानियाई वैज्ञानिकों ने दुर्लभ प्रजाति की मछली की खोज करने का दावा किया। इसी दिन जहरीली शराब पीने से पाकिस्तान के कराची क्षेत्र में करीब तीन दर्जन लोगों की मौत हो गई।

2008 अनिल अंबानी, मुकेश अंबानी की कंपनी रिलायंस के कृष्णा गोदावरी बेसिन में तेल उत्पाद शुरू हुआ।

2011 गूगल ने अपनी नई सामाजिक नेटवर्क सेवा गूगल प्लस आम जनता के लिए लाॅन्च की। इसी दिन ऑस्ट्रेलिया विश्वविद्यालय के नेतृत्व में अंतरराष्ट्रीय वैज्ञानिकों के एक दल ने उच्च रक्तचाप के लिए जिम्मेदार 16 जीन की खोज करने में सफलता प्राप्त की।

2012 कैंब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय ने एक शोध में जानकारी दी कि करीब चार वर्षों में आर्कटिक ध्रुवीय बर्फ की टोपी वैश्विक तापमान में अत्यधिक वृद्धि के कारण गर्मियों में पूरी तरह पिघल जाएगी।

2013 नैरोबी के वेस्टगेट शापिंग मॉल में आतंकवादी संगठन अल शबाब के हमले में 67 लोगों की मौत हुई।

2018 समलैंगिक अधिकार कार्यकर्ता जैक कोस्टोपोलोस की यूनान की राजधानी एथेंस की एक व्यस्त सड़क पर पीट-पीट कर हत्या कर दी गई।

2019 5.6 मेगावॉट के भूकंप ने डुरेस के अल्बानियाई बंदरगाह को हिला दिया। राजधानी तिराना में उनतालीस लोग घायल हुए।

2020 दुनिया के सबसे ऊंचे पर्वत माउंट एवरेस्ट के शिखर पर ऑक्सीजन सिलेंडर के बिना 10 बार चढ़ने वाले नेपाल के मशहूर पर्वतारोही अंग रीता शेरपा का निधन हुआ। 2020 में इसी दिन आर्थर अश्किन, प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक और नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता का निधन हुआ।

2021 75 से अधिक फिल्मों और 300 से अधिक टीवी एपिसोड में अभिनय करने वाले प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी अभिनेता विलियम गार्सन पास्जामेंट का निधन हुआ।

2022 हास्य अभिनेता और भाजपा नेता राजू श्रीवास्तव का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी एनसीपी के मुखिया शरद पवार ने कहा कि ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि विपक्षी दलों के नेताओं के खिलाफ मामले दर्ज कराना और उन्हें गिरफ्तार करवाना केंद्र की प्रमुख परियोजना है। महाराष्ट्र के चार बार मुख्यमंत्री और केंद्र में रक्षा तथा कृषि मंत्री रहे शरद गोविंदराव पवार ने कहा, जब भी उन्हें (सरकार को) चुनाव के नतीजों को लेकर संदेह होता है तो इस प्रकार के कदम महत्वपूर्ण कार्य के तौर पर उठाए जाते हैं। समाज के सामने मौजूद चुनौतियां और मुद्दे दरकिनार कर दिए जाते हैं। राकांपा नेता पवार ने कहा कि हम इसका राजनीतिक तरीके से जवाब देंगे।

2023 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव एंटोनियो गुटेरेस ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र के महत्वाकांक्षी सतत विकास लक्ष्यों (एसडीजी) को बढ़ावा देने के लिए वित्तीय कदमों के लिए जी20 के समर्थन का स्वागत किया। उन्होंने विकास के लिए वित्तपोषण पर महासभा की उच्चस्तरीय वार्ता में कहा कि मैं एसडीजी प्रोत्साहन, बहुपक्षीय विकास बैंकों को मजबूत करने और विकास और जलवायु कार्रवाई के लिए वित्त बढ़ाने के लिए जी20 के समर्थन का स्वागत करता हूं। संयुक्त राष्ट्र वित्तपोषण पर महासभा के अध्यक्ष डेनिस फ्रांसिस ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्त में सुधार के आह्वान का समर्थन करते हुए कहा कि हमें वैश्विक आर्थिक प्रशासन के प्रति अपने दृष्टिकोण में बुनियादी तौर पर बदलाव लाना होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि यह बिल्कुल स्पष्ट है कि मौजूदा वित्तीय वास्तुकला सतत विकास लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करने के लिए आवश्यक स्थिर, दीर्घकालिक और न्यायसंगत वित्तपोषण जुटाने में कम पड़ गई है। इसी दिन भारतीय पुरुष वॉलीबॉल टीम ने चीन के हांगझाऊ में एशियाई खेलों के अपने रोमांचक दूसरे और अंतिम पूल मैच में तीन बार के चैंपियन दक्षिण कोरिया को 3-2 से हरा दिया।
