31 ईसा पूर्व रोमन गणराज्य के अंतिम युद्ध, जिसे एक्टियम की लड़ाई कहा गया, यूनान के पश्चिमी तट पर हुआ जिसमें ऑक्टेवियन की सेना ने मार्क एंटनी और क्लियोपेट्रा के नेतृत्व वाली सेना को हराया।

421 इस्वी में 2 सितंबर को इतिहास प्रसिद्ध कॉन्स्टेंटियस तृतीय का निधन हुआ।

595 कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल के शाक जॉन चतुर्थ का निधन हुआ। तब कॉन्स्टेंटिनोपल रोमन साम्राज्य के अधीन था। अब यह तुर्की का प्रमुख वाणिज्यिक नगर इस्तांबूल है।

1192 इंग्लैंड के रिचर्ड प्रथम और सलादीन के बीच जाफा की संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए, जिससे तीसरा धर्मयुद्ध समाप्त हुआ।

1649 पोप इनोसेंट 9वें की सेना ने इतालवी राजा कास्त्रो की सेना को हराया और कास्त्रो नगर को तबाह कर दिया। ज्ञातव्य है कि सबसे पहले वेतन आधारित सेना या भाड़े के सैनिक सर्वोच्च इसाई धार्मिक निकाय वेटिकन ने ही रखे। यह राज्य की रक्षा के अलावा किसानों से टैक्स वसूली और वेटिकन की भूमि पर लोगों से बेगार करवाने का काम भी करते थे।

1666 भीषण आग से लंदन में छह लोगों की मौत हुई और दस हजार इमारतें नष्ट हो गयीं।

1752 ब्रिटेन और ब्रिटिश उपनिवेशों में अंतिम जुलियन कैलेंडर दिवस मनाया। यह कैलेंडर रोमन शासक जूलियस सीजर द्वारा प्रारंभ किया गया था। बाद में इसका स्थान ग्रेगोरी कैलेंडर ने लिया।

1946 जवाहर लाल नेहरू के उप सभापतित्व में अंतरिम भारत सरकार का गठन हुआ।

1949 संयुक्त राष्ट्र आयोग ने कोरिया में गृहयुद्ध भडकने की चेतावती दी।

1953 दुबई में बड़ा व्यापारिक साग्राज्य आरपी ग्रुप चलाने वाले भारतीय अमीर कारोबारी बी रवि पिल्लई का जन्म चवारा, केरल में हुआ।

1965 भारत की पहली महिला रेल चालक यानी ट्रेन ड्राइवर सुरेखा यादव का जन्म सतारा, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ।

1969 अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क में पैसे निकालने वाली मशीन ऑटोमैटिक टैलर मशीन यानी एटीएम को पहली बार दुनिया के सामने पेश किया गया। कैमिकल बैंक ने इससे पूर्व विज्ञापन जारी किया जिसमें सूचना दी गई कि 2 सितंबर को हमारा बैंक सुबह 9 बजे खुलेगा और कभी बंद नहीं होगा। इसी दिन जानी मानी बाॅलीवुड फिल्म, टीवी शो निर्मात्री, कारोबारी और अभिनेत्री अल्का कौशल का जन्म दिल्ली में हुआ।

1970 अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने चांद पर जाने के लिए अपने दो अपोलो मिशन रद्द किये। 1970 में इसी दिन कन्याकुमारी में विवेकानन्द स्मारक का उद्घाटन हुआ।

1971 आंध्र प्रदेश के बापात्ला में पवन कल्याण का जन्म हुआ। पवन जाने माने अभिनेता, फिल्म निर्माता, राजनीतिज्ञ और परोपकारी हैं। वह तेलुगु सिनेमा में काम करते हैं और एक फिल्मफेयर पुरस्कार, एक एसआईआईएमए पुरस्कार, एक सिनेमा पुरस्कार और एक संतोषम फिल्म पुरस्कार के प्राप्तकर्ता हैं। वह वर्ष 2013, 2017 और 2018 में फोर्ब्स इंडिया की सेलिब्रिटी 100 सूची में शामिल हुए हैं। उनकी राजनीतिक पार्टी जन सेना है।

1972 जाने माने चरित्र फिल्म अभिनेता रजा मुराद की नातिन सोनम खान का जन्म हुआ। फिल्म अभिनय, माॅडलिंग और ग्लैमर जगत की सुपरिचित हस्ती हैं सोनम खान।

1976 प्रख्यात मराठी साहित्यकार विष्णु सखाराम खांडेकर का निधन हुआ।
