634 दमिश्क की घेराबंदी के तहत खालिद इब्न अल-वालिद के नेतृत्व में रशीदुन अरबों ने बीजेंटाइन साम्राज्य से दमिश्क छीन लिया। दमिश्क अब सीरिया की राजधानी है।

1356 पोइटियर्स की लड़ाई में एडवर्ड द ब्लैक प्रिंस की अगुवाई में अंग्रेजी सेना ने फ्रांसीसी सेना को हराया और राजा जॉन द्वितीय को पकड़ लिया।

1410 मैरीनबर्ग घेराबंदी का अंत हुआ, ट्यूटनिक ऑर्डर के राज्य ने संयुक्त पोलिश-लिथुआनियाई सेनाओं को वापस भागने को मजबूर कर दिया।

1589 इटली के वेनिस में 19 फरवरी 1532 को जन्मे विख्यात कवि, विचारक, भाषाविद जीन-एंटोनी डी बैफ पेरिस, फ्रांस में निधन हुआ। वे उन सात फ्रांसीसी कवियों में सबसे अधिक विद्वान थे जिन्होंने ला प्लीएड के नाम से जाने जाने वाले समूह का गठन किया था। बैफ ने शास्त्रीय शिक्षा प्राप्त की और 1547 में पियरे डी रोन्सार्ड के साथ कॉलेज डी कोक्वेरेट, पेरिस में जीन डोरैट के अधीन अध्ययन करने के लिए गए, जहां उन्होंने जोआचिम डु बेले के साथ, पूर्वजों और इटालियंस की तर्ज पर फ्रांसीसी कविता को बदलने की योजना बनाई। इस अभियान में बैफ ने पेट्रार्चन सॉनेट्स और एपिक्यूरियन गीतों के दो संग्रह, लेस अमौर्स डी मेलाइन (1552) और एलश्अमोर डी फ्रांसिन (1555) का योगदान दिया। 1567 में ले ब्रेव, ओउ टेललेब्रस, बैफ का प्लॉटस के माइल्स ग्लोरियोसस का नाट्य रूपांतरण शाही दरबार में मंचन किया गया।

1891 विश्व विख्यात अंग्रेजी नाटककार विलियम शेक्सपीयर के प्रसिद्ध नाटक मर्चेंट आॅफ वेनिस का मैनचेस्टर, इंग्लैंड में पहली बार मंचन 1891 में किया गया। इस बहुचर्चित नाटक का हिंदी में अनुवाद प्रख्यात कथाकार रांगेय राघव ने किया है।

1893 न्यूजीलैंड में निर्वाचन अधिनियम 1893 के तहत सभी महिलाओं को मतदान का अधिकार दिया गया।

1907 पहली बार इतिहास में कृत्रिम तेल का निर्माण हुआ। इस नये पदार्थ का आविष्कार स्काटलैंड के रसायनशास्त्री जेम्ज यांग ने किया था। यांग, पत्थर के कोयले की खदान के मालिक थे और उनके पास एक प्रयोगशाला थी पत्थर के कोयले के आसवन से उन्होंने कृत्रिम तेल बनाने में सफलता प्राप्त की थी।

1923 विख्यात हिंदी एवं बांग्ला संगीतकार, कवि, गायक और गीतकार सलिल चौधरी का जन्म 24 परगना, पश्चिम बंगाल में हुआ। 

1927 प्रख्यात हिंदी कवि कुंवर नारायण का जन्म हुआ।

1929 विख्यात नाटककार, पटकथाकार, नाट्य निर्देशक, संगीतज्ञ एवं थिएटर कलाकार बी. वी. कारंत यानी बडुकोडी वेंकटरमन कारंत का जन्म हुआ।

1931 सदाबहार फिल्म अभिनेता देव आनंद की पत्नी फिल्म अभिनेत्री मोना सिंहा का जन्म शिमला में हुआ। इनका फिल्मी नाम कल्पना कार्तिक है।

1936 हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत के विद्वान विष्णुनारायण भातखंडे का निधन हुआ। इसी दिन दक्षिण भारत के प्रमुख अभिनेता और नेता एमजी रामचंद्रन के साझेदार शराब निर्माता और कारोबारी एनपीवी रामास्वामी उड्यार का जन्म हुआ।

1938 विख्यात हिंदी फिल्म निर्माता, लेखक, निर्देशक और अभिनेता ताहिर हुसैन का जन्म हुआ।

1949 विख्यात हिंदी फिल्म अभिनेता प्राण के बेटे फिल्म निर्देशक सुनील सिकंद का जन्म बंबई में हुआ।

1952 हॉलीवुड फिल्मों के स्टार चार्ली चैपलिन को अमेरिका वापस आने से रोक दिया गया। इंग्लैंड में जन्मे और लोकप्रिय हुए हास्य व्यंग्य अभिनेता और निर्माता चार्ली ने सामंतवादी, पूंजीवादी शोषण, उत्पीड़न के खिलाफ अपनी कला का बेहतर इस्तेमाल किया और हमेशा जनता का पक्ष लिया। इसलिए सरकारें, अमीर और पूंजीवादियों को वह फूटी आंख नहीं सुहाते थे।

1955 अर्जेंटीना की सेना और नौसेना ने विद्रोह कर राष्ट्रपति जुआन पेरोन को पद से हटाया।

1957 अमेरिका ने नेवादा के रेगिस्तान में पहला भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किया।

1958 प्रख्यात भारतीय गायक, संगीतकार और अभिनेता लकी अली का जन्म हुआ।

1960 सिंधु नदी जल समझौता हुआ। भारत के प्रधानमंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू और पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद अयूब खान ने समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इसे इंडस वाटर ट्रिटी भी कहते हैं। समझौते के तहत सिंधु नदी घाटी की नदियों को पूर्वी और पश्चिमी नदियों में बांटा गया। पूर्वी क्षेत्र की तीनों नदियां- रावी, ब्यास और सतलज भारत को दी गई। पश्चिमी क्षेत्र की नदियों- सिंधु, चिनाब और झेलम का कुछ पानी पाकिस्तान को भी देने का समझौता हुआ। पाकिस्तान के हिस्से की नदियों के पानी का सीमित इस्तेमाल करने का अधिकार भारत को भी है, जैसे- बिजली बनाना, सिंचाई आदि। भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच तमाम विवाद रहे, युद्ध भी हुए, लेकिन इस संधि पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ा।

1962 भारत की उत्तरी सीमा पर चीन ने आक्रमण किया।

1965 अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा के माध्यम से अंतरिक्ष जाने वाली भारतीय मूल की दूसरी महिला सुनीता विलियम्स का जन्म हुआ।

1976 जानी मानी, खूबसूरत, बोल्ड फिल्म अभिनेत्री, भारतीय जनता पार्टी नेत्री और माॅडल ईशा कोप्पिकर का जन्म माहिम, बंबई में हुआ।

1977 भारतीय क्रिकेटर आकाश चोपड़ा का जन्म हुआ।

1980 हिंदी, तमिल, तेलुगू, तमिल, मलयालम, कन्नड़, मराठी, बांग्ला आदि विविध भारतीय भाषाओं की फिल्मों की अभिनेत्री एवं माॅडल मेघना नायडू का जन्म विजयवाड़ा में हुआ।

1985 कनाडा के टोरंटो में रेनी जेन पैक्वेट का जन्म हुआ। रेनी प्रसिद्ध कनाडाई-अमेरिकी टेलीविजन हस्ती हैं जो ऑल एलीट रेसलिंग के लिए बैकस्टेज साक्षात्कारकर्ता के रूप में काम करती रही हैं। 2012 और 2020 के बीच डब्ल्यूडब्ल्यूई में अपने खास अंदाज में आंखों देखा हाल सुनाने के लिए लोकप्रिय हुईं। जहां उन्होंने रेनी यंग नाम के रिंग के तहत एक कमेंटेटर, प्रस्तुतकर्ता और साक्षात्कारकर्ता के रूप में काम किया था। इसी दिन मेक्सिको सिटी में भूकंप से भारी तबाही हुई. वहां करीब 10,000 लोग मारे गए थे।

2011 शहरयार के नाम से सुविख्यात अखलाक मोहम्मद खान को उर्दू साहित्य में उनके योगदान के लिए 2008 का 44वाँ ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया। इसी दिन 2011 में अमेरिकी सरकारी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने चांद और मंगल ग्रह के अलावा अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को ब्रह्मांड के दूसरे ठिकानों पर भेजने के लिए स्पेस लाँच सिस्टम एसएलएस नामक 100 टन तक वजन को अंतरिक्ष में ले जा सकने वाले एक भव्य रॉकेट की रुपरेखा तैयार की।

Baff received a classical education and in 1547 went with Pierre de Ronsard to study under Jean Dorat at the Collège de Coqueret, Paris, where, with Joachim du Bellay, he planned to transform French poetry along the lines of the ancients and the Italians.
